8:10 pm
around trying to confuse the quarterback. put himself in a position to draw that penalty. louisiana-lafayette. you have to get that stop. to continue that momentum. >> eric: out of the back feel. can't get out of the grasp of antoine sanders. middle linebacker with the squeeze. it's a loss of six. >> brock: impact player for a reason. 24 tackles on the season. best open field tackle. not an easy patchup for any linebacker in america. williams to throw a little behind minimum. jordan jefferson and this is tomorrow morning that teaching tape will say, jordan, look at this play right here. you put that ball in keilen's belly, give him a much better chance against a linebacker
8:11 pm
barreling down on him and gives anders the opportunity to wrap up williams. >> eric: helton punts it away from his own 6 yard line. no fair catch called for it. he pays for it. no return. a punt of 38 yards. louisiana-lafayette will have the ball when we come back. >> the rain continues to fall in auburn doing nothing to the fans. their spirit also not be dampened about 40 minutes away from kickoff. west virginia and auburn. this game was scheduled to begin at 7:45 but as you can see inclement weather slowing down things just a bit. glad you could be with us. the rain continues i've got robert smith, todd mcshay. trust me i tell you i'm glad they're here. plenty of time to talk while we wait on the game again about 40

8:16 pm
of scrimmage but he has great vision. he accelerates extremely well. when he gets to his top end he's not going to be caught by anybody out on the field. he has all the tools he needs to be an incredible running back. has just tremendous lateral movement as well and doesn't just cut hard, but when he makes his cuts he covers a lot 6 difference laterally which allows him to get away from perspective tacklers. >> all about speed and also because he gets so much attention, allowed the offense to go now and throw vertically. riley had mistakes but great deep throws. that will be something the key for this cal offense as you watch them moving forward. if they can continue to get big plays in the vertical passing game. could be an offense good enough to win the pac-10. >> t-minus 35 minutes. weather delay, lightning and heavy rain, fans in the stands, they do so at their own peril. we have seasonal beers

avionics in the morning. training in the afternoon. computer programming in the evening. and along the way, leadership 101. and on the day that your studies here draw to an end, and the commander looks you in the eye and salutes you, it will be with the knowledge that he is only the first of many who will do so. there's strong. then there's army strong. to see strength like no other, go to goarmy.com west virginia and the auburn tigers. new 8:49 time eastern. this was scheduled to kick but we're in a bit of a holding pattern. due to inclement weather. in the meantime, plenty of football to talk about. week three.
8:19 pm
we start to see how teams will fare. who they really are. wacky week three. 14-18, number 17 cincinnati leading oregon state almost at the half underunder two minutes to play. >> pike one of the best quarterbacks, puts up big numbers week in and week out. play in the nfl one day. impressed with him early this season. what about the cincinnati team only one starter back on that defense. incredible what they've been able to do. >> nick saban fired up as alabama takes on north texas. guessing they fared pretty well. late in the first quarter. alabama up seven. greg mcelroy. >> good guess, wendi. >> to maze for the score, 14-0, tied. mcelroy dumps it off to ingram. he will do what he does. nifty moves. avoids the tackles. 27-0. time, not quite, 53-7.

8:21 pm
toughness. >> what are you saying about akron and syracuse and temple? >> thanks a lot for that. throw me under the bus. paterno, 26-0 against temple during his long tenure as the head coach of penn state. ohio state. remember what happened last week. ohio state university. terrelle pryor. >> your guy, sansen back sanzen. >> does, good, strong german name. >> why don't you say it again. >> dane sanzenbacher. >> down the middle. 18-yard score. his second. >> man, all over the place. just what the doctor ordered. ohio state wins easily, 38-0. no real hangover it looks like from last week's loss. >> good to see him moving around getting past the line of scrimmage.
8:22 pm
as you've talked about. he has got to be a dual threat and not a pocket passer in order for them to be great on the offensive side. >> he is who we thought he was. >> a lot of screaming. >> michigan, who would have thought they were? they beat notre dame last week tate forcier getting the start. 17-10. carlos brown up the middle. 90 yards later, 24-10. >> interior of the offensive line did a great job. you can see the offense starting to open up after everything the defensive units have seen on film from forcier. >> forcier is hit hard here. he does go down. a little scary. he was on the ground for a few minutes, was able to walk off but on his own. michigan, 45-17 now let's think about this. 3-0. their record last season, 3-9 so they match their win total today. i want to jump ahead but, wow, what an improved michigan team. >> indiana coming up next. should be 4-0 to start the
8:23 pm

8:24 pm
we continue to wait. inclement weather in the area. those fans are still in the stands and going to play this one we're told. have to wait a bit longer. >> s.e.c., of course, they're going to play. >> not going anywhere. >> what we can talk about is what to expect. we're waiting for kickoff. let's tell the good people what we'll see in auburn when they do play. >> they need to get off to a fast start and shown a little more explosiveness than they did a year ago. offensive system that is still focusing on running the ball. always have to do that at auburn. that's what they got away from. now running the ball and getting better quarterback play and bigger more physical up front against that west virginia defense that is small and likes to work out of the 3-3-5 and i think auburn will wear west virginia down in the game. >> mississippi state, vanderbilt. out for bonus coverage as we continue to wait for kickoff in auburn.
8:25 pm
>> best guy in the s.e.c. nobody has heard about. >> tremendous job. just a great kick. kicks his coverage. a long kick like that. he gets the coverage strung out but a good job of barry finding the wall and putting mississippi state in great shape. >> 70 seconds to work with. lead quarterback. marcus green the tight end. first down, bulldogs. that play took six seconds. >> a big-time throw. on the corner route, great read by tyson to see that the corner rolled up short. had that hole outside the
8:26 pm
safety. >> at the vanderbilt 30 yard line. 25-yard completion. lee, pressured. sacked. taken down by brent. >> terrorize is a hybrid player. used to play safety. got him at linebacker. little undersized at 215 but has great speed and great closing ability. >> swing it to heavens. rolled up at the 33. mississippi state is out of time-outs. they don't have any now so it's critical. they gain yardage.
8:27 pm
down goes lee. that will be the half. vandy's defense. >> a poor job by tyson lee and dan mullen is running out on the field to talk to him right now. been telling him you had no business taking the sack. you cannot take the sack. talking to him right at midfield. great job of coaching by dang mullen right in the middle of the field telling tyson lee you cannot take a sack. we'll get a chance to kick a 50-yard field goal but you can't take a sack. boy, he's really upset. >> we are waiting an 8:49 kickoff. this game delayed just about an hour and four minutes due to weather. out to mark jones and bob davie with an update. we'll update florida state.
8:28 pm
chasing byu. what they call an audible. >> byu, ponder to casparowski. >> you're gloating about it. >> this a bit of a surprise. number 7 byu team on the ropes. now, come on. diggs agreement. why not. >> it's not a surprise. we did see -- we did see florida state play miami earlier in the year and did see miami play the other night against georgia tech which was a team coming into the season that a lot of people had high expectations for. i had picked them myself to win the akc. i was wondering after the miami and florida state game when i saw those teams tussle there and put up so many points i was wondering is this really great offense. are these terrible defenses? you see the game the following week with florida state against jacksonville state. see them struggle in some inclement weather there as well and then the picture becomes a little bit clearer. maybe they're struggling because of the bad weather.
8:29 pm
miami the other night and what they were able to do against paul johnson and that georgia tech team, i knew that florida state had to be pretty good -- >> there's some eye rolling going on from your colleague. >> the longest pat on the back i've ever seen. >> that's right. plenty of time. >> to score 34 points on miami. >> we have plenty of time and byu still has plenty of time. this game is not over. can get hot offensively. man-to-man coverage will be a problem for byu but defensively i've been spiced because they played earlier in the season better. >> early. one game against an offensive line that -- >> all right. we got to go. we may get to sit here for the whole game but mark jones and bob davie, can you help us out with an update. >> mark: this is the seen at jordan-hare stadium. s.e.c. football on espn where you can see just about anything and anything happened tonight.
8:30 pm
about 45 minutes ago when we were supposed to kick off, the skies suddenly became very gloomy, very ominous looking. right now very calm 71 degrees but if you turn the clock back about an hour ago, this is what it looked like. a torrential downpour. inclement weather wreaking havoc with the area. and they predicted about 50% of storms and thundershowers yesterday. that 50% definitely turning into 100%. mark jones along with bob davie. much love to the auburn faithful that stuck around. over 85,000 expected for the game. the game staff operations people had to empty out the stadium. the fans that stayed stayed at their own risk. not allowed to bring the teams back until one half hour after the last lightning strike and there is about, oh, some eight minutes to go on the clock so we're going to cross our fingers and then they'll have an ensuing ten-minute warm-up.
8:31 pm
but having gone through all this what do the teams do. >> bob: knowing the two offensive coordinators as innovative as they are they're probably drawing up new offensive plays to the chagrin of these defensive coordinators. once we get it started i don't think any will make much difference because the playing field is about as nice as i have seen in college football. it's amazing how well this is drained and the student body, this auburn student body. you mentioned it. this is one big party and that's what really is unique about the southeastern conference. you're not going to get these fans out here. you know those west virginia fans are tuning up getting ready for the game too. a long night of football. >> mark: auburn led 17-3 and lost 34-17. what do you think about the various players. >> bob: high-pace game. a lot of smurf hybrid games,
8:32 pm
5'7", 150-pound speed sters, combination running backs and wide receivers. innovative game from an x and o standpoint so mother nature isn't even going to slow the offenses down. >> mark: new coach in gene chizik and gus malzahn and without pat white for the west virginia mountaineers. as for the fans they're all wait but their spirits ready to go and waiting for the kickoff. back to you, wendi. >> mark, thank you very much. this game going on over on espn. number 23 georgia and arkansas. how about that, mallett to darius -- >> a perfect fit for bobby petrino. mallett off to a hot start. >> funny you say that. there's mallett again. to craig childs with the score and what have we here? it is 21-10 and you can see
8:33 pm
mallett, 6 of 9, 161 yards, the number that matters, three touchdo touchdowns. >> georgia defensively struggling. potent arkansas offense. tough game for georgia to come become in. >> ryan mallett is the transfer from michigan. certainly wasn't a good fit for what rich rodriguez wanted to do but what bobby petrino has at arkansas, good fit. >> mark richt given expectations said this year you know what, we don't wantny of that. do our best to keep the team levelheaded. but still don't get a sense of where georgia is. have the real bulldogs emerged? it's early. i understand. >> part of the problem again you lose a great left tackle in trenton sturdivant with the exact same injury to the left knee. tore his acl again. last year they lost a couple other people off the offensive line and knowshon moreno
8:34 pm
couldn't make up for the problems. new quarterback in joe cox and new running back in richard samuel. they haven't had a chance to develop as players but defensively you've got real concerns. >> and this is where the s.e.c. becomes brutal. you go win a game against south carolina last week, a shootout and they cast in all their chips, georgia did, now they've got to come back, go to arkansas and play an underrated team with a lot of offensive weapons and look tired. they'll have to regroup in the second half and play better defensively but an early sign of how tough the s.e.c. can be. >> that was a dog fight against south carolina last week. if you heard mark richt after the game no one was more relieved than he was. a palable sense of relief. >> let me just say this. it's not just an indication of how sufficient the s.e.c. is. it's talking about or it reveals how much parity we have. let's not forget. the same georgia team that went
8:35 pm
out to stillwater and lost to oklahoma state. we have usc losing to washington. i mean all of -- and tennessee staying in there for awhile with florida. apart from florida, who even had a little bit of trouble today at home against tennessee, can we say that there's any one team in this country that is absolutely dominant especially when we're looking at texas tonight down 3-0 against texas tech. who is that team in the country right now? >> again, a reminder -- >> are they that dominant. >> point well taken. >> thank you. georgia, that game, a reminder going on over at espn. we're trying to get you ready for an 8:49 kickoff. as you can see plenty of hot air here to keep you company. kick off at 8:49. er: "it looks like nothing else on the road right now," proclaims "gq" magazine. did you see that? the interior "positively oozes class," raves "car magazine." "slick and sensuous," boasts "the washington times."

8:39 pm
this will be easy. >> they did have to throw. >> it was thrown into double coverage. >> you know, that's when you saw matt barkley warming up. he never saw the field. >> corp again almost -- >> he saw it. never had a chance to play it. >> jay had a better day. here he hooks up with jermaine kearse for a big first down. >> what a gun he has. doesn't even have to plant his feet. threw that one directly up in the air. >> seven seconds to play. eric following.k

half. >> monte kiffin is an unbelievable defensive coordinator. spent years under tony dungy. linebacker coach in minnesota ]w coordinator. >> top 20 matchup. virginia tech, hokies fired up to take on the cornhuskers. in blacksburg. opening kickoff and we have done that again. i'm telling you. every time we go to tell you about nebraska -- >> holding call for a touchdown. zach lee. >> cover, cover. up five, nobody gets deep. are you kidding me. >> what's interesting, nebraska really outplayed virginia tech for much of this game. >> watch this play -- watch the defensive line on nebraska on the next play. you have to go after tyrod taylor on this. you can't stay back and let him scramble all day. there's no way your secondary can cover this long. >> tyrod taylor. gets away with it. but again, threw the ball, the
8:43 pm
rushing situation continues. seems to shy away from. >> negative 22 yards rushing. he's not running the ball. he's not getting the looks he wants as a passer. when it came down to it he made the one throw they needed and they won ugly but still won. >> scorecards don't take picture. >> tough for nebraska. outplayed them for 3 1/2 quarters. >> michigan state and notre dame. to south bend for this one. notre dame, of course, losing to michigan at the big house last weekend. michigan state down three, kurt cousins hits blair white. >> that guy is a great possession receiver. >> smart. >> big route routes. >> jimmy clausen to golden tate. one of his two favorite targets. >> i love this move. what's going on, band? don't mind me. i got a three-point lead. >> to the other team's band. >> first and ten, cousins
8:44 pm
overthrows, wide-open larry caper. that proves to be a pretty big missed opportunity. next play, cousins intercepted by kyle mccarthy. >> a terrible play on second and ten. there's no need to try -- >> oh, you're in field goal territory right there. >> charlie weis does survive a close one. 30 but here's the situation. michael floyd left in the second quarter. appears to be a broken collarbone. he could be hagone for the year >> maybe a dislocation simultaneously. that's the only thing i can think of. >> regardless even four, six weeks. best playmaker you have in the passing game, a tough one for jimmy clausen limping throughout the second half of the game, as well. >> chip kelly and oregon hosting 18, utah. early in the first no one was on the board just yet, walter

8:46 pm
