10:01 am
its national values. good morning i'm eric sean. >> jamie: i'm jamie colby. great to have you with us. this show of force happening days after the u.s. condemned tehran over secretly working on a new underground nuclear facility. and iran says, oh, it is not done yet. there are more tests to come. joining us now, iranian journalist, kavon buche, you are with us on the phone from tehran and have been following the story since last night and first, the iranians claim the testing was planned before the events of last week and what do you know about that? >> well, what, the iranian authorities say is that these maneuvers are part of irgc's, the revolutionary guard, annual and usual defensive exercises in order to preserve and increase iran's counter measure capabilities. but, really the timing comes -- considering all of the events happening, with iran, is a bit
10:02 am
odd, and i can't be really sure that this was... in advance and i say, the general, the head of the irdc's air force, stated the maneuvers are a show of iran's willingness to defend its beliefs and ideology, and, also, the analysis of technical advancement and tactical abilities, which have recently been applied to all irgc's ground-to-ground missiles. so in a way it comes as a surprise to see such a -- maneuvers happening at this moment. >> let me take you a step further, though, on the ones that are yet to come. if tonight they test these shahaab one and two short range mills and tomorrow as early as
10:03 am
tomorrow the long rain missiles, those believed to be capable of making their way toward israel, how can they say they only have peaceful plans for nuclear filters wh facilities when they are testing missiles in the direction of a country that liesen wait. >> this is somehow related with the events of the past few days and one of the most significant things that happened, was that the -- was this russia and president medvedev openly and clearly took sides with the americans and international community. that is a bad card for the iranians and let's not forget the most important thing iranians are after from russians are the sophisticated s-300 missiles. which would tilt the military balance in favor of iran. now, with russia taking sides with international community, and president obama, that means
10:04 am
there is not going to be any s-300 delivered to iran. so, firing the shahaab-3 with the range of 2,000 kilometers, quite capable of targeting israel, is in a way a show to say that even without the s-300s, iran is capable of defending its territory. and i have no doubt that shahaab-3 will be tested in the next few hours. >> jamie: live with us from tehran, coming up, too, we'll talk about the white house's call now to inspect those facilities. that is coming up, later in the show, thank you so much for being with us. eric. >> caller: thank you, madame. >> eric: jamie, eastern has a deadline, open up the -- iran has a deadline, open up the nuclear site to inspectors with in three weeks and you have three months to completely come clean about the program or face possible new and much stricter sanctions and will iran do that and -- or continue to stonewall
10:05 am
and could it bring it closer to what many say is tehran's ultimate goal and that, an islamic nuclear bomb and joining us is fox news contributor and former a ambassador to the united nations, john bolten, ambassador, good morning and thanks for being with us. the administration gave iran the deadline. then what. >> the meeting october 1st is certainly going to be very interesting, but i don't think it is in any sense a deadline. this administration has given many deadlines, frankly as did this bush administration before that, all of which have been ignored, i think iran will play for time here, it has already said that it will open this facility, for i.e. inspection. now, when that -- iaea inspect and when that happens that is a guessing but the iranians will use the stated intention to open the facility to buy time and extend the negotiations and i think the obama administration will go along with that. >> eric: you think the deadlines don't mean anything.
10:06 am
>> i think the administration is so desperate to have a diplomatic engagement here, that it will find ways to overlook problems in iran's compliance and let me say, i don't think anybody should be under any illusions about where russia is on this, president medvedev's statements, particularly in pittsburgh, after the announcement of the site, simply say that russia will consider sanctions against iran and that is precisely the same position russia has taken for three-and-a-half years. there are no more coming out in favor of strict sanctions, than they have at any previous pointed. >> eric: we'll be seeing in your view what we have seen in the past and look at china, iran is number 3, in terms of supplying oil for china, and, they certainly have not seemed to want to have stricter sanctions. >> exactly. shine's silence is noteworthy, and i think if iran is playing its cards right it will come to the meeting in geneva and will be open and say we're looking for cooperation, a peaceful nuclear program, and, the
10:07 am
administration and in fact even our european allies, central banks the russians and the chinese, will say, well, we have a diplomatic process going, again. the first meeting of the permanent-5 in germany plus iran, since the obama administration took office, let's not do anything to upset the process, and i think the administration will agree with that, so the odds are, we are in for a long, diplomatic slug here and even if not, even if the administration goes for sanctions, it is far from clear that the security council will do much of anything. >> eric: you talk about engagement, just amazing. i was with mahmoud ahmadinejad on friday, and he was 15 feet away from me, and we were at the news conference and he spoke for an hour and you look at the guy and he sits and just is smiling right at you and he said people who pursue nuclear weapons are, quote, retarded. retarded. used that word and calls nuclear weapons a criminal weapon, and he says the -- president obama is making a mistake and blunder and he demands an apology from the united states. so, when he is sitting there in
10:08 am
front of me and looking at me and smiling that little smile, is that what he is doing to the world, look you can see you it right there. >> remember, the famous french foreign minister, the observation a diplomat is a states man sent out to lie for his country and i tell you this iranians are very good at it. >> eric: he's certainly -- denied they have a nuclear weapon and want to pursue a nuclear weapon. and he even said that the new so-called secret plant was reported to the iaea within the iaea rules and regulations and the guy sounds like a lawyer, who is parsing every little piece of language, to try and get away with it. >> right, and it will provide the russians with what they need to say, you know, technically, it's not in violation of the safeguards agreement with the iaea and may be in violation of the security council resolution, but, we are talking to the iranians, let's not do anything precipitous and all the while, iran will continue its activities and, really, open up another question, if there was a secret enrichment site at koum
10:09 am
are there other secret sites we have not known about or had confidence what was happening there and the iranians are in effect backing up the nuclear capacity against the possibility of an israeli military strike. >> eric: there were reports that there could be as many as a dozen, this just one of them, u.s. ambassador, john bolten, fox news contributor, thank you for joining us, always good to see you with us every sunday morning. >> thank you. >> eric: jamie. >> jamie: and developing, fox news sender defense secretary bob gates officially received the afghanistan commander's report. general stanley mcchrystal wrote that report, and met with joint chiefs chairman in germany and he handed it over, and that is not the normal protocol, requests normally go through channels all the way up to the white house. leaks suggesting that mcchrystal was going to ask for up to 40,000 more troops, but the pentagon disagreed with the request and wanted the report in
10:10 am
advance. >> eric: the white house saying it is getting closer to making a decision about what to do and where to put those terror suspects, currently held at gitmo, guantanamo bay, cuba. the administration wants to close the prison, they say, by january. but they admit it probably will not make the deadline. the problem, of course, where to put the prisoners, options on our soil, here in america, including putting some of these gitmo guys in military briggs, are in the super max prison in colorado, and po tigers on both sides of the aisle oppose the closing of gitmo, saying, the detainees could pose a threat to americans. >> jamie: in less than a week, six men in five states charged in a wide range of terrorist plots. from blowing up federal buildings, attacking u.s. troops and killing, potentially, scores of americans. one of the biggest catches, an afghan national, naijbullah zazi, you can see him here, taken into custody, the feds say
10:11 am
he may be the linchpin in one of the most dangerous terror plots since 9/11. and the same person who greeted wall streeters with a smile and a cup of joe for years, and manned a food cart in lower manhattan and what is behind the string of terror plots, and is all of this a sign of a greater hatred of america, that is growing right on our own soil? joining me now, terrorism expert, neil livingston, the chairman and chief executive of executive action. neil, thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you. >> i really think that is the key question. is the hatred of america growing and is it happening more and more right here on our soil. >> i don't think it really is as -- has anything to do with hatred. i think after 9/11, the u.s. rolled up a lot of foreign terrorists, potential terrorists, that were in the u.s., and some 1900 people, were detained at that time. and, it has taken them a long time to get along going again
10:12 am
and we have had eight years for them to infiltrate other people, that have been trained abroad, here, and, for local home-grown terrorists, who essentially take -- to take root and so, this is the price, we pay. for essentially having probably been dis tracked on other things, for a while. >> are we paying enough attention to this and how vigilant or potentially more vigilant do you think the american public needs to be in order to rout out other cells that may be here in the u.s. >> we need to be much more vigilent and the administration, for example seems to be more focused on essentially what do we do with the terrorists we already have, and do we have proper respect for their rights, things like that, rather than apprehending terrorists. and the zazi plot has been known to the government, going back to the bush administration. and, zazi appears to be the
10:13 am
first actual al qaeda inspired and trained terrorist that we have seen on our soil in the past eight years, since 9/11. the others that were arrested appear to be more homegrown and copycat-type terrorists but that is to say we have a complex problem both from without and within and we need redouble our government efforts, and in order to catch those that we have not found or discovered yet. >> jamie: i want to pull up a piece of paper, if i can -- tape if i can, which is zazi in a beauty supply store, buying an inordinate amount of -- this is actually the raid that took place, in one of the apartments in new york but this is him at the counter and he's paying for bottle after bottle of hair color supplies, and nail polish remover, and the woman behind the counter actually asks him, why he's buying so much, and the reports are that he said he has a lot of girlfriends. this sort of thing could happen every day, everywhere, in
10:14 am
america, and if authorities new about him, for so long and had been following him for so long, should he have been rounded up sooner, or even being rounded up now, was there further information that they might have learned that they lost now, because the plot had to be made public? >> well, there is no question that he was acquiring all the elements to make explosives. the government hasn't found them yet but we had his receipts, and we know things that he had done. the difficulty here, as in any case, is that if you wait too long, a bomb may go off and you may give them too much time and if you move too prematurely, you may not be able to get all of the evidence that you need or all of the linkages to other people, i think the government has to rush this when they decided finally to move and i think they were regretful of the fact that they really hadn't uncovered all of the elements of the plot yet, that -- we have to basically defer to their judgment they needed to move
10:15 am
when they did, because if they hadn't something bad could have happened. >> jamie: one thing we heard from law enforcement is several trips to training camps. overseas. so, thank you so much, neil, very good to talk to you about this, we're keeping an eye on it as well. thanks. >> thank you. >> eric: a "fox news alert" now to tell you bob, legendary movie director roman polanski has finally been arrested, taken into custody by police in switzerland and organizers of the zurich film festival say the arrest is related to the 31-year-old u.s. arrest warrant, from the case of him having sex with an under aged girl in california and the director of classics shuch as "chinatown" and "rosemary's baby" and fled u.s.a. in 1978, after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl and he would not visit from countries in which he could be extradited back to our country and tried to

get the case dropped so he could come back and tonight he was supposed to get a film prize for his life's work at the festival in switzerland, and ahead here on america's news headquarters we'll have a live report on the latest developments, of the arrest of roman polanski. jamie? >> jamie: president obama is zeroing back on health care reform after spending a week on the world stage. he says, people, quote, cannot wait any longer. for reform. and, he is renewing his push to overhaul the system. >> eric: and did you see what happened in san francisco in a real close call with griz lis, how -- grizzlies, and how would you like a close encounter with those guys and the zoo trying to figure out how a guy got into the exhibit and breached security there. their noses, as they have over the last few years, is the alliance going to impose tough economic sanctions? one of the interesting things, i asked both senators, one democrat and one republican, well, if they don't impose sanctions, or the sanctions don't work, what about a military option, and, never one, neither kit bond, nor dianne feinstein, thought the military option would likely have much success or really stop the iranians if they are determined and obviously would have a tremendous blowback throughout the entire middle east and they say we may have to do it or the israelis may have to but think economic sanctions forcing iran to change its policy is did he have alternates the preferable way to go. >> jamie: chris, when mahmoud ahmadinejad was here in the u.s., do you think the response to him was appropriate? >> chris: well, the fact that he was allowed to speak, you know, there are some people, certainly, the israeli prime minister, benjamin netanyahu thought it was a disgrace to
