tv   Geraldo at Large  FOX News  September 27, 2009 10:00pm-11:00pm EDT

10:00 pm
i don't get it. >> this is about substance. clearly barack obama is trying to take the country in a direction that's so far left it is out of the nature. >> to the president's credit he is not using the race issue. >> that's all of the time we have. thank you for being with us. back here tomorrow night. thank you for being with us. >> i don't hide from it. i do want and i still want obama to fail. i design america succeeding by virtue of obama failing. >> your wife talks about the vast right wing conspiracy targeting you. is it still there? >> you bet. sure it is. it's not as strong as it was because america changed dem graphically but it's as viral as it was. they may be hurting president obama, they could take his numbers down and run his
10:01 pm
opposition up. fund amount physically he and his team a have a positive agen to america. that's not a good prescription for america. >> that was former president bill clinton this morning taking a jab at president obama's critics. good evening everybody and welcome to "geraldo at large. i am kimberly guilfoyle. it was made famous by hillary clinton in 1998. she was convinced republicans were conspireing to oust bill clinton from the oval office by all means necessary. we are going to bring in ann coulter. ann, the vast right wing conspiracy alive and well or is it just a spoke screen? >> i don't know who was worst for president obama former president carter or former president clinton?
10:02 pm
the vast right wing conspiracy is inspiring just as clinton. with clinton it had more with him molesting intern leaving see men stained kleenex around for the stewards to pick up and perjured himself asking others to per injury themselves in sexual harassment lawsuit and then obstruction of justice special counsel investigation and here in today's case it has more to do with people's opposition to the feds nationalizing one 6th of the american economy. liberals do this to turn opponents into untouchables. instead of debating us on the issues they call us evil mongers or claim we are fostering or part of a conspiracy. how about debating us on the issue. >> you went there with a
10:03 pm
kleenex. >> the american people should know that. >> now they do know. thank goodness it's evening. >> i never thought it was a conspiracy. i thought it was out in the open. it is clear there are people -- we heard rush limbaugh. i think ann is straight fore barred about her position on these things. there are the same thing in the clinton administration. clinton got into office didn't want him to be there thought he was ill legitimate. tame same thing with obama they never liked him he has a different ideology doesn't like the way he is going pretty much because they think about everything he does. when little and hillary talks about a conspiracy seems like we don't know what's going on. we all know what's going on. >> do you think it's alive and well? >> totally alive and well. >> even though the conservative blogs are out numbered 3-1? who is this fa vast right wing conspira conspiracy, ann? is it you?
10:04 pm
>> identify yourself. >> it is very small. it's out in the open. people oppose his agenda but you are right that the name conspiracy makes it sounds like it's something secretive and illegal and to continue your point about left wing blogs out numbering right wing blogs the democrats have presidency house of representatives senate, 90 percent of the print media, 100 percent of the network media, 90 percent of the cable networks. how is this operating other than americans saying we don't want to you social highs healthcare? oo what do you say to that? >> i know what liberals think. i hear it all of the time. there are influential conservatives who fund things same way they fund liberal
10:05 pm
things. liberals often cannot accept there's a marketplace for these idea sz. instead they sit around saying the only reason ann coulter is the top of the best seller list is conservative book clubs go out and buy all her books. they can't accept there are people out there who buy the books and read them and like them. they don't do themselves favors when they st say that stuff. >> do you have any scary people after the white house? >> that's a good one. that was an especially good one. kirsten is right. we were accused of that specifically conservative groups buying books. my publisher at random house not exactly a conservative outfit had to write in and point out to the i think it was editor or publisher making that book clubs don't count. not one book counts towards the
10:06 pm
new york times best seller list. liberals won't deal with the argument directly which is why they try to create these untouchables and they are conspirators and doing something sneaky and illegal. that is w also why you see the obsession on the left a weird obsession for us to tell them who our leader is. for the first six months it was rush limbaugh is he your leader? now they are claiming glen beck or sarah palin or romney? we are refusing to tell them as soon as they know they are going to engage in this pe personal destruction of the new leader. in point of fact we don't have a leader. >> i was going to go to the tea, crumb pets conspiracy. >> the flip side of the argument they are saying the president had their own left wing conspiracy, right? people are up in arms over this
10:07 pm
video. i know you have seen it. everybody has seen it. >> the other one i love they snap their fingers. >> they do barack hussein obama. you like that one? >> he has the snaps down. >> i am sure if this had been a george bush song singing about how you should support the war in iraq no one would have had a problem with that at all. >> you think they would have been fine? >> new york times would have been fine with it everyone would have been fine with it for sure. >> give me a break. i don't know about that. ann. >> it's ridiculous that people are defendinging -- die know how
10:08 pm
many people are defending it but it wasn't getting too much coverage from the mainstream media that you have this stuff going on. i would think a liberal would be offended by the concept of. i haven't heard a whole lot of outrage. you think it's something people should be outraged about or not? >> oh, yes, i think they are. kirsten is right the way the left is responding at least the mainstream media mostly by not covering it. you can't see that video without being creeped out. it's like the young nazi in the movie cabaret singing. it's a creepy thing. for the transition from the right wing conspiracy to this from the right wing to the czars. our complaint is they are being paid for by the tax payer. >> you said young nazi at a cabaret. we are not just hearing things.
10:09 pm
>> that movie. you know the scene i am talking about? when the first obama video ran i ran a link of that song next do it. >> cheerleaderish. >> beautiful young child singing a pretty song in honor of hitler. it was creepy. this is also creepy. it's a cult of personality. that's why the mainstream media isn't playing this up big. >> what about parents that are upset because they don't want that type of thing going on. they send their children to school to get an education not to get indoctrination. >> i am sure they are upset. i remember when i was little we would write president reagan you might write a letter to the president. i think that's normal. when you start getting into great accomplishments or equal work or equal pay you have to think if you are a liberal sitting there you have to say what if this was about
10:10 pm
supporting the war in iraq or supporting something you don't like? it doesn't be long to schools. >> part of the problem is now in school sz you cannot say the mreg pledge of allegiance. that's what bothers me, why is this okay and acceptable? >> that is what has been going on. there are movements that take pledge of allegiance, you can't even say that in a normal form. >> you can still say the pledge of allegiance, you can't have prayer. obviously some people are a little koky. >> one nation under god they don't like that. >> it wasn't even in the original thing. stay out of it during the communism scare. >> seriously. >> there's a hole other segmese. >> i don't think that's as big of a deal.
10:11 pm
>> not the pledge of allegianal. it was a always in the pledge o allegiance. >> i don't think so. >> you don't have to use the word conspiracy but there has been a longstanding left wing movement to take over the public schools. they are doing plan a jihad in public schools in california. they are teaching heather has two mommies. the left has used the schools to try to get the children young. liberals won't argue with adults so oh we will get the children. >> okay. you just stop talking. that was like a moment made for television history. ann and kirsten that's all we have time for right now ladies. but when we come back we have shoplifting with our grand larceny and dealing drugs. who is doing all of this? did actor randy quaid really break the law or was it a case of bad acting? up nem the prime time panel will update hollywood, i did it for
10:12 pm
research defense.
10:13 pm
10:14 pm
some people like to pretend... a flood could never happen to them... and that their homeowners insurance... protects them. it doesn't. stop pretending. it can happen to you. protect your home with flood insurance. call the number on your screen... for your free brochure.
10:15 pm
>> i didn't want to ask you, but could you maybe spare a little? little extra cash? >> sure, anything. how much you need? >> about $52,000. >> tonight it's not another chapter of national lampoon vacation franchise but a real life drama as actor wa randy qu and his wife are busted for milking money out of hotels for thousands of dollars.
10:16 pm
quaid and his wife scammed the santa barbara hotel out of $10,000. this isn't the first time they have done it. cops say quaid also swindelled the swanky beverly hills bellaire owe tell out of 17,000 bucks. they were holding a rental car that was reported missing. quaid allegedly covered his tracks by using fakes credit cards and bogus names. colleagues winona ryder and tatum o'neo'neal. you will recall winona five finger discount defense when she was nabbed for shoplifting. she said she was researching a movie role. that didn't go over too well. tatum's defense said she was also doing research for a role when found with drugs. randy quaid sent a letter to tmz claiming the enpi -- entire ordl
10:17 pm
was done for publicity. you think it will work this time. you never know. >> that defense isn't going to work in a courtroom. remind me of when a guy is caught in prostitution, he says i am doing investigation here. it is not a legal defense. it is bogus. i spoke to a couple hotels they hang up because they don't want to be talking about dead beats. i called his neighborhood book store i said what kind of books does he read? he said philosophical books. i said does he pay for them? they said yes. >> is his library cardell link went, too? >> criminal defense attorney. >> arguably his wife presenteded a copy of a check that has already been cashed by the hotel saying they cashed the check and she paid for the hotel bill up
10:18 pm
front. >> the whole amount? there's an issue that is contested where they say part has been paid for we will -- >> she claims she has the whole bill paid in full. if your defense attorney it goes to one of my former colleagues from the lada's office a former prosecutor robin stac sax and n york defense attorney is here with us. what do you have to say? >> hi, kim, how are you? >> you and i both are cracking up because you and i know the work we hear you guest saying is the crafty defense. it failed for winona and tatum o'neal and it will fail in this situation. they know that. the biggest failing and biggest reason why we will see them go
10:19 pm
down on it is not necessarily this case which could be defendable based on the facts of the case but also the prior case in history. >> tmz is reporting the wife ei quaid made one of the signs about the deputy involved that disparaging him. he is considering it a legal action. it's time to make payments. call. >> she drove it around the block in glenview. pay the bill and move on. >> i need to you stand by because we have more to talk about. up next as jaycee dugard attempts an attempt to work in real life, coming up you will meet a concerned citizens who fears gaff rit toe.
10:20 pm
they helped weed him out. we will have hoar specs. my doctor told me something i never knew. as we get older, our bodies become... less able to absorb calcium. he recommended citracal. it's a different kind of calcium. calcium citrate. with vitamin d... for unsurpassed absorption, to nourish your bones.

10:23 pm
about taking care with vesicare. >> tonight a crime time in prime time update on the creep phillip gur recei ger recei gur receipt toe. it may lead to another kidnaper right in their own neighborhood. janice combs thank you for joining us. you claim there's another suspicious individual living in that neighborhood who you approached the police on. >> i don't know what the status of the of the investigation is but it's a person in the unincorporated area in antioch.
10:24 pm
runs his basimm layer to the way phillip garrido ran his. you pull up in the driveway he will have you call him he will come out and meet you. take care of the needs that you have to after you have left. you are notable to go into the yard or approach his front door. when he is finished with the job you come back and everything has been taken care of. i found it kind of interesting that he had said to a police officer he did not know phillip and he actually does. my feeling was if something is going on and you know of someone that hauli has been accused suc phillip was in a crime do you know him? i know who he is. i waive to him.
10:25 pm
don't know him real well. you wouldn't go out and say i don't know him if many people could actually say yes you do. >> that's making you suspicious right here. i am not going to ask what this individual does for a living chlg we are not going to identify him. there's an investigation going on. we want to make sure we have our legal bases covered. it's compelling on a lot of levels. the similarity was so strong you felt prompted to call the police department. with phillip gar read doe so many people never said anything. you were one of those people, janice, that knew him and had come in contact with him. how has it made you feel and is that why you came forward to talk to the sheriff's department about this other suspicious person? >> there is many people i know who worked with phillip over the years. when he has done our printering for us we knew he was strange we
10:26 pm
could tell by his actions. several people were told he had add. he wasn't somebody that you were afraid of. evidences somebody that was antsy and said a lot of strange things. one of the questions i asked after i found out that he had jaycees in his backyard for 8 years is why didn't any of us see something in phillip? know something. i have a son-in-law that actually has met the two young daughters about four years ago. >> i would like to know why you didn't look on the computer? he's a registered sex offender. you would see his name on there. how did you let that go by? oo okay, we lost her remote. we can't see her on the camera now, but janice is somebody who actually came forward because she feels badly about what
10:27 pm
happened and wanted to contact the sheriff's department about this other person. she is given police the information that garrido would sing these bizarre songs madonna songs, like a virgin, what he was doing in the neighborhood in terms of religious outreach to the young people to the point where some people were upset and agitated when their children complained. a lot of things she came across she thought were does s suspicious. in retrospect she said these things should cause alarm for me but they didn't. >> who would know odd behavior is endemic or is something that he had that he is hiding such a horrible situation in his backyard? you may think he is odd but to go forward in your mind to think there are two girls in the backyard who he abducted one from a father years before it's such a stretch for a regular individual. you are in law enforcement so
10:28 pm
you are much more attuned than a regular civilian as we all are in a different situation. >> heightened sense. >> the parole members they should be fired. they are drinking too much coffee and doughnuts. >> sorry janice we lost you. appreciate you coming on the program tonight. coming up our legal panel will weigh in on the possible new break in the case. plus we will hear from the daughter of the infamous happy face murderer. finally could cops be closing in on the suspect of the eerily similar smiley face killing. we will have the latest when we come back. okay...um...eighteen pounds and a smidge. a smidge? y'know, there's really no need to weigh packages under 70 pounds. with priority mail flat rate boxes from the postal service,
10:29 pm
if it fits, it ships anywhere in the country for a low flat rate. cool. you know this scale is off by a good 7, 8 pounds. maybe five. priority mail flat rate boxes only from the postal service. a simpler way to ship.
10:30 pm
when a tornado tore through holly, colorado, air life denver took to the air... their night-vision goggles keeping them safe on a perilous flight...
10:31 pm
and powering those precision goggles--- is the only battery air life trusts: duracell. trusted everywhere. look for new duracell ultra advanced now with even more power to protect. >> welcome back. one of the points we were going to cover is the fact that phillip gar read doe actually --
10:32 pm
garrido helped correct her child safety pamphlet. she was printing this and he said you have to make corrections here to help children be safe children should never go to the bus stop without an adult. adultsing always over come a child. craig rivera has conducted key interviews with respect to this case. >> very interesting. the neighbors show a different perspective as phil gar re garr. they say he is someone intimidating someone you don't want to approach. we take a look at the clip we spoke to neighbors there. >> all right. >> they used to call him crazy phil around here for some reason. >> you are telling me your dad kept you from coming to this neighborhood.
10:33 pm
why is that? >> because there was a lot of tweakers he told me when me and my brother were young don't go back there there's a lot of bad people over there. >> you can image standing here washing dishes looking out and see that go yard having heard the babies cry, the children cry, the girls cry and not having a clue where the crying was coming from. what was going on. we attributed it to the families further down. here sound travels. we never dreamt, never in our lives dreamt. >> just less than 40 feet from your kitchen window. you heard the babies? >> yes. and didn't attribute it to the household at all. >> you see how he would be able to keep these girls prisoner or this young girl j jaycees for years. >> i don't care easy.
10:34 pm
i can image as young people how intimidating how frightening how off putting he could be. iveng that's how that occurred. he was so out there everybody gave him wide birth. nobody was willing to put their nose around there if they ever dreamt of anything they wouldn't confront him theirselves to think that could have been going on under everyone's noses this is a community where people don't put their noses in other people's business per se. >> this is considered high dessert. give us an idea of the temperature if they were living outside in a tent? >> two years ago we had a stretch of time in august wherefore 10-days or more the president was over 110. in the winter time we can get down into the high 20s or low
10:35 pm
30s. it is a miracle they survived. >> it really shocks you. unbelievable the condition these three young people had to live in the children and jayce, and nobody said anything. >> something they should know vm there are more than 100 sex offenders who live in garrigarr house including two that live a block away and dozens of pedophiles within a mile and a half. you can see how he could slip through the cracks. >> with so many like minded individuals neighbors in that area it's really shocking. >> we are going to bring our xa panel back in. robin welcome back. do you think the da and police officers are looking into every lead like the one we heard from janice? >> i think when you hear a statement from janice you see the community at large is putting a lot of effort and putting attention into their own safety. given the missed opportunity as
10:36 pm
it is being called before, da's office police and law enforce am and paw royal would be remiss r not to look at that right now. >> to me you have to look at every lead possible. what if there's a network operating in that area? what if other people were complicity had facts or information or god forbid had other children? >> god forbid the police don't do this at this point when there has been so many years of interaction or going to the house not going to the backyard as we have seen with garrido. they come to the home didn't do anything once they got there. they looked around didn't look too far. >> you see the aerial shots. there's a tent. >> 40 people from a window in the kitchen. the police have to be almost over anxious, they have to be over cautious. >> now time to be zealous. >> eyes are on lauren. the parole department i don't
10:37 pm
want to leave them alone. they dropped the ball. we were ab awful. we speak to parole officers all of the time. they always search the homes and everything. i don't know what these guys were doing out there. >> one thing phil said they could be intimidating with the police. she called police on him for burning debris in the backyard causing unsafe environment the whole neighborhood. he said come back with a war rant. >> that should be the first sign. when someone gets aggressive with police and don't want them in their yard that should have been a red flashing light. >> how about take a walk around you see the tents you are like who hmmm, what's going on here? >> there's no excuse for that. they dropped the ball. this is a fox news alert. >> there is a a break in the filly face murders case.
10:38 pm
investigators are closing in on people of interest. although police have remained skeptical two retired detectives believe a series of drownings around the country of drunken college aged men are more than just accidental. one of the investigators kevin gannon joins me tonight. kevin welcome to program. this is a fascinating case. what information can you release regarding the possible smiley face serial killer game? >> basically that we have made monumental advances in the last year we have been compiling collecting documentation which has been giving us similar names of individuals in the organization in the east coast and west coast in connection with and what it will sh show it is well structured we are going to release the reason why they are a abducting our young men a
10:39 pm
who the organization is responsible for these murders. >> kevin tell the audience how you became involved in this case and why you are so passionate about it? >> originally when i was in missing persons back in 97 i had three young men that went missing in a 15 month period. two of them winding up in the same spot which was suspicious on their backs which was inconsistent with a normal drowning. the one case the first case was a case where i got close to the family and knew it was a homicide and i found with the family i would stay on the case until i proved their son was actually murdered. the pathologist and baden saw the photos and pat inco mcneil not only murdered he was tied to a chair and actually burned to
10:40 pm
death. >> originally it was not classified as such which is so shocking. now look, tell me what you think you will be able to do, you said by january there will be a big announcement perhaps a big break in the case? >> we are hoping right now we are working with some organizations and we don't want to -- our main thing is to get a prosecution. we are going to still release who the organization is and what is going on. hopefully spur that on the investigation or at least alert the families who is responsible. we have the documentation to prove that and substantiate all of the facts in the case. >> this will be a big development with michael baden
10:41 pm
sarl wecht who is on the show. thank you for joining us tonight. >> thank you. >> we are learning another case long thought to be connected to the smiley faced murders and dubbed the happy face killer are not associated with one another except they have a similar psychological profile. we have kevin. joining us is melissa moore daughter of keith jefferson. thank you for being with me tonight. can we hear her audio? we are not getting it. >> okay. >> now you are with me. good. >> this is the untold story of a serial killer's daughter. i read in your book your father would share actual details of the murders with you when you were younger. at the time you didn't ream lies the stories were actually true. you thought they were fans i feel tales stories he was telling you. at what point did you say wait a
10:42 pm
second this is real my father is a serial killer? >> it whether or not until i was much older after his father was captured in march of 1995 i really thought my father had bizarre behavior but i didn't go that far with my thoughts to think he was a serial killer. i was 12 to the age of 15 when he was telling me these details. >> in terms of your fathers is somebody when you hear the cases we are talking about do you see some of the similarities? >> i don't know too much about the miley murders at this point. all i know is from my interaction with my father. how i -- now that i am older i was bizarre behavior. >> judge, you have a comment? >> her father has been sentenced to four lifetimes imprisonment.
10:43 pm
her father was a monster. the book as i read it it helps cleanse herself i am glad you wrote the book. it helps other victims face their problems. >> it helps people identify. she was 12-15. she wasn't aware of the li psychological profile of a serial killer. i saw her on oprah with dr. phil and oprah they discussed some of the profiling it can help with other people who may see specific behavior like that or see behavior being combipted. >> it's a fascinating case and the book is getting excellent reviews. melissa thank you for being on the program. good luck with your investigation. i am proud of you you have never given up. it will bring a lot of open and justice for families.
10:44 pm
in a public plea to bring daughters home my treats join us live when we come back.
10:45 pm
10:46 pm
10:47 pm
>> she was released from jail on a minor infraction. they released her at 1:30 a.m. she has not been seen since. the sheriff's office was remised in letting her go and i have to tell you i don't disagree.
10:48 pm
the mother and father michael richardson and lat tease and their attorney. why don't you think your daughter should not have been released? >> well, first of all the time of night. it was the middle of the night. it was not safe. it was very dangerous. she was unfamiliar with the area which i m -- made the sheriff aware of that. i spoke with them she is not from that area. >> you were aware they were going to go ahead and release her? >> i spoke to the deputies prior to my daughter's arrival. she was in transit to the station. he was speaking with the deputy i shared with him it was
10:49 pm
uncharacteristic of her. it was not something common for her to do. i am not sure why she is in that area. she doesn't know any one in that area. we don't know any one in that area she does not visit that area. that area is foreign to her. i made the deputy aware i would be there to bail my daughter out. at that time he did not have the full information that information was not available. >> it was inability to pay a bill, right michael? >> now it was making a disturbance. the report for my understanding changed at least four times now they are keeping it as failure to pay an intake person. >> there needs to be an investigation with this. i have a break i have to take right now. i want to thank you guys for
10:50 pm
joining me. stand by, coming up next more from her parents plus crime time panel will pai in.
10:51 pm
10:52 pm
10:53 pm
>> joining me is our panel and monica banks the attorney for the family. i want to begin with you. what's your issue with the sheriff's department? >> latrice was arrested there was a legal base for them to arrest her. the same reason they should have detained her. she was without a car, she was without identification and without money. they were aware their mother was on the way to come pick her up. she should not have been released at 1:30 in the morning. >> steve wit more said the release was not a violation of departmental policy. she exhibited no signs of mental
10:54 pm
illness or intoxication she was fine she is an adult. really? that's what she was arrested for. that's why i find this to be problematic. >> exactly. >> now they are saying there's a shift in the story because they are saying she wasn't under the influence. it was for nonpayment of a bill. i am going to bring in rebecca here. >> she is arrested at 10 it's 1:30 in the morning let lose into the desert in malibu with no identification, nothing. how did she become undrunk? if she was so drunk they had to take her in detain her and book her how did she become not drunk. >> that was the basis to begin with. >> they had probable cause to arrest her didn't they? how did they determine she was tyne to -- fine to be released? >> judge you called them? >> i called the satellite facility where she was they hung up on me they didn't want to answer the questions. >> you identified yourself. >> they hung up on me. felt like it was an old date.
10:55 pm
the problem with that facility it's 1:30 in the morning, she is 40 miles from her home. they impounded her car and they let her out in the dark. >> where is she supposed to going? >> she had no money and no id. >> this is what's so upsettinging to mitrice's parents. she has no money no keys no car how was she supposed to get transportation? they knew you were going to pick her up? >> that is correct. that is the issue that is the question that we are still trying to help answer today. >> i can answer it for you it's gross negligence. they dropped the ball. it's grossly negligent. i was a legal advice year to the sheriff in broward county. there's no way you should release your daughter onto the streets like this. the girl was studying for a ph.d. in a local college? >> she was gathering her paperwork to enter a ph.d.
10:56 pm
program. i also question when they were in the process of arresting her in the field they gave her a sobriety test which she apparently successfully passed. i have to question if they suspected she was intoxicated and she distributed terrible, odd behavior but she passed the sobriety test, shouldn't the next step be -- didn't they have a duty to then provide some type of evaluation? >> i agree with you, i agree with you. let's bring in robin sax. what do you make of former la da? >> i am jumping out of my chair right now. there are so many questions we all have. none of these are questions we should be having. there should be clear concise answers. what was she arrested for? why did they arrest her? why were they back pedaling. why didn't they allow her to wait for her mother. the community in malibu knows it's far away from any sort of
10:57 pm
civilization. it's not close to anything for anybody. there is so nanny miss steps here that it's outrageous. it's beyond just gross negligence that i have a problem with. this is a constitutional civil rights. >> but for their conduct she would be with her parents right now that's the issue that i have with it. it's a tragic case. thank you to the parents. i hope she comes back to you safe and sound. thank you for watching tonight. um bill--
