tv Glenn Beck FOX News February 4, 2010 2:00am-3:00am EST
2:00 am
10:00 p.m. eastern. we'll be live. now cable tonigh. captioned by closed captioning services, inc >> glenn: welcome to the "glenn beck program." tonight if you're thirsty, i have water. if money were water i'd show how much money you'd be saving. wait, i actually want to do this with 100 gallons of ice cream, but i'm not going to fit on the screen soon. c'mon, let's go. we have a lot to do! well, hello, america. you know, symbols mean something. anybody who read the new dan brown book probably developed at least a passing interest in symbolism in the icons we see every day. let me show you something i find fascinating about two of history's most important icons. stay with me, this is all going to make sense, maybe, hopefully today. maybe some day.
2:01 am
let me show you first, this is a picture of the colossal of roads. they didn't have digital camera in 280 b.c.. this is artist rendering of what it was. one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. took 12 years to build and stood 107 feet high. i believe that is the height of the statue of liberty. it's -- you see the boats down here. get a sense of how huge this thing was. we're not sure but we think that it was in somewhat of a slouched or relaxed position. because of the confidence of people felt, they were an important port in the ancient world and felt insinceable. i don't even know where it is, do you? it's interesting to note it stood for less than 50 years. the torch, the crown. look familiar? 50 years this stood and then knocked down by an earthquake. then it laid there in rubble for 80 ye 800 years as people c
2:02 am
from all over the world to see the great fall. got it? let me contrast this with the statue of liberty. this is the saw the chew of liberty. built from the french. it was a gift from the french for us but it was meant to wake europeans o s that was modelled out of colossal of roads. this was a thumb in the eye of europe. the difference in stance speaks volumes. it was meant to. first, notice he is holding arrows and a bow. what is she holding? she is holding the tablet of law. this is the tablet of law. go to her feet. a full screen. notice her feet, she is stand ing like this where she is almost on the balls of her feet. moving forward. her arm and torch is outstretched to the world.
2:03 am
she is going this way to hold the tablet that signifies the law. constitution that enables her to move forward and -- give me another picture of her feet, please. here. to break free of the chains that the european system put in place. she is able to move forward. i want to ask you a question. is this still our stance? or is this our stance? whatever. i contend we're not following the law anymore. we haven't broken free. we're not looking at the constitution anymore. we're forging chains again. the american people have always moved forward. but our government is not moving with us. let's go through a couple of examples. this is a question i want you to ask yourself. did he keep his promise? we only have one thing to save us, that's honor.
2:04 am
the truth. the truth will set you free. that's what people looked for when they said they wanted change in washington. they wanted somebody to tell them the truth. well, look at some of these things. first, the american people said no to healthcare. even the people in massachusetts that have this healthcare say it doesn't work. well, obama said again yesterday that he's going to try to push healthcare through anyway. why? well, it's the progressive mentality. we'll get into a little bit of that hopefully tomorrow. part of that is that they can gain the power they need to control every aspect of your life. they are now controlling the message. did he keep his promise? this was the message he was giving us. this is critical for so many people. what is the message he has been giving us on healthcare in the past? watch. >> if you like your dock, to you will be able to keep your doctor. period. >> if you've got health
2:05 am
insurance, you like your dock, to you like your plan, you can keep your doctor, you can keep your plan. >> no matter what you've heard, if you like your doctor or healthcare plan, you can keep it. under the reform we seek, if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. >> got it. he said no matter what you heard, he was referring to people like me. before that he called us liars. stop the fear mongering. listen carefully who what he said a couple of days ago. listen carefully. >> we said from the start that it was going to be important for to us be consistent in saying to people if you can have your -- if you want to keep the health insurance you got, you can keep it. you're not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your
2:06 am
decision-making. some of the provisions snuck in might have violated that pledge. >> glenn: wow! we could do an hour just on this. tonight i want you just to carefully focus in on what he was saying. it's not just a broken promise. look at this. i want to show you the full quote here. we said from the start -- listen, this is a guy who has just been -- somebody snuck in, you are not going to get your doctor. he promised you, don't listen to those crazy people. you are going to do it. this is his response. we said from the start it was going to be important for to us be consistent in saying to people that you can have it if you want to keep your health insurance, you got, you can keep it. yuf're not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor, decision-making. you got it? this isn't just a broken promise. it was a careful unveiling of the truth. we have said from the start that it was going to be important for us to say. this is a glimpse to their
2:07 am
inside conversations. let me ask you this. when you get down to this line -- and i think some of the provisions that got snuck in might have violated that pledge -- we're not talking about a little pledge. we are talking about you being able to keep your doctor. say i'm on president of the united states on tv saying don't listen to a guy saying you're crazy. guy like me saying you are not going to get your doctor. they're lying to you. his credibility is on the line as much as my credibility was on the line. if that was the case and you find out that somebody snuck stuff in, which makes what i and others like me were saying to be accurate, don't you give this speech? wouldn't you now say america, i gave you my word. i told you don't listen to them. they were wrong. but some of the members in congress or somebody else in the administration have slipped provisions in this bill that have violated my promise to you. my word is my bond.
2:08 am
that is all we've got with each other. trust. hope. i'm not going to tolerate it. i'm stopping the process until we can fix it and find the weasels who did it and tell you and look you in the eye and say it is true. you can keep your doctor and fulfill my promise to you. well, let me tell you something. not only would that be the right thing for any president to do, his approval ratings would go through the roof. people would say wait, if he is going to do that, i might actually listen to him. but no, no, no. he says we said from the start it was going to be important for to us be consistent in saying to people -- c'mon, c'mon. they knew they would have to say that to get it passed. wait until you see what we have tomorrow for you. this is not minor campaign misspeak, or is it? you have to decide, was it deliberate? is this appropriate his response? i want to talk directly to anybody who might be watching
2:09 am
me. you know, they're like that glenn beck guy, he just wants to slaughter people. if you voted for him or not, let's have an honest conversation for a second. i'm not, i don't care if he is the president or not. it just want the truth. without getting in your face, i want to know his post-"state of the union" bump, approval rating is up to 50. i don't understand that. because if you bought into what he was saying about hope and change, has he done any of it? there are so many seemingly unfulfilled promises, and it's not because of the republicans. his own party won't pass them. some call them exaggerations or some call them down right lies. you decide. did he keep his promise? first, these are big things. people who voted for them wanted.
2:10 am
healthcare. no. didn't get healthcare done. keep your doctor, he just said no. if that would have passed you would have lost your doctor. gitmo. did he do that? let's watch. >> we provide the process whereby guantanamo will be closed no later than one year from now. >> glenn: still opened. that turned into a debacle. obama wasn't going to conduct business the way george w. bush did. he made that promise. watch this. >> he has been saying well, i can change what congress passed by attaching a letter saying i don't agree with this part or that part and i'm going to choose to interpret it this way or that way. that's not part of his power. >> glenn: he's right. >> this is part of the whole theory of george bush that he can make laws as he's going along. >> glenn: he's right. >> i disagree. i taught the constitution for
2:11 am
ten years. i believe in the constitution andly obey the constitution of the united states. we're not going to use signing statements as a way to doing an end-run around congress. >> glenn: got it? no signing statements. here is a constitutional lawyer. he's very clear here. i taught the constitution. he's right about george w. bush. it's not within his power, shouldn't be done. progressives do that. well, you didn't like it, i didn't like it. no signing statements. what happened? what happened to i will obey the constitution and we're not going to use signing statements? why would he violate his words so quickly? as saul alinsky said, the ends justify the means. it doesn't matter. just get it done. watch this. see if you recognize the -- i'm just going to compare and contrast. here is f.d.r., another huge progressive, 1933. s>> if we cannot do this one way, we will do it another. but do it we will. >> got it? can't do it the one way, we'll do it another, but we
2:12 am
are going to do it. watch this from the "state of the union," just what was it, last week? >> that's why i've called for bipartisan fiscal commission. yesterday, senate blocked a bill that would have created this commission. so i'll issue an executive order that will allow to us go forward, because i refuse to pass this problem on to another generation of americans. >> glenn: do it we will. finally there is pelosi on this case. the american people made it clear we don't want healthcare, but do it we will. what has she just said? >> we go to the gate, the gates close, we go to the fence, if the fence is too high, we'll pole vault. in if that doesn't work, we'll parachute. but we are going to get healthcare reform passed for the american people. >> glenn: what happened to the constitution? whatever. shh. whatever. what happened to the constitution? obama's signing statements were so offensive to democrats that four of them -- david obey, barney frank, olowi and gre gregory meeks of new york wrote a
2:13 am
letter denouncing the bush-like signing statements. the democrat-controlled house voted to oppose the signing statements. after opposing the bush surveillance programs, he retained them. the bush tribunal system for detainees he preserved them. i don't even have these on the board. not long ago after violating the no lobbyist works in the white house working there -- this got me. how many did we count the other day? 30. he had the audacity to bring up the lobbyistist thing in the "state of the union." >> that's why we excluded lobbyist from policy-making jobs or seats on federal boards and commissions. >> glenn: he has 30 in his administration. now we just showed you some of these lobbyists the other day, i don't know if we have pictures of them. he's showing them. okay. he repeated after this the non-existent fantasy figure of 2 million jobs created or saved. this is during the address again. then he went further. saying he was on track for
2:14 am
another $1.5 million, or 1.5 million jobs this year. understand this. look it up. there is no metric measuring any kind of statistic like that. there is no measurement. his own website claims 650,000 jobs. 650,000 jobs created or saved. valerie jarret said thousands and thousands. wouldn't be a surprise if i hear robert gibbs today say billions of jobs have been created. it's a game. what is the game on the number of jobs saved or created? to get you to focus on that number. instead of well, you know what? they are playing the same game all over. watch this from the "state of the union." >> the truth is these steps won't make up for the 7 million jobs that we lost over the last two years. >> glenn: the 7 million jobs lost in the last two years. what does that do? that gets you to forget the last two years. the last one year during the
2:15 am
bush administration, the last year in office, 3 million jobs were lost. that leaves him with jobs lost this year 4 million. see the game? that goes really to the openness and transparency of the game. how are we supposed to -- wouldn't it be nice? how refreshing it would be to get a glimpse in how the government solves problems or writes bills. eight times he said c-span would broadcast the proceeding of the negotiations with healthcare. none of it occurred. none of it. it's been closed door backroom process from the beginning. you know it and i know it. when running for office, this man pledged he would end -- i looked at this tape today. i couldn't believe he actually said this, but he did. he said he would end the war in iraq by hast year. watch this. >> so we have to begin a withdrawal, have the combat troops out by march 31 of next year. but i want to make sure we get all of our combat troops out as quickly as we can safely. now the estimates are maybe it's two brigades per month.
2:16 am
at that pace it would be sometime in 2009. i oppose the war in 2002. i will bring this war to an e e end in 2009. time to bring our troops home. >> glenn: i think it's 2010 and they're still there. when he announced the spending freeze at the "state of the union," there was an audible gasp mocking from congress. i've never seen anything like it. watch this. >> starting in 2011, we are prepared to freeze government spending for three years. now, i know that some in my own party will argue that we can't address the deficit or freeze government spending when so many are still hurting. and i agree. which is why this freeze won't take effect until next year. when the economy is stronger. >> glenn: okay. spending freeze that seems to be something he was against, he attacked mccain during the campaign. everybody mocked it and ridiculed it. the a.p. now has pointed out will save less than 1% of the
2:17 am
predicted deficits over the next ten years. let me show you this. we tried to make this demonstration with water bottles. here and underneath the table are 100 water bottles. okay? there are 17 of the 100 here. he is saying we're going to freeze spending. to you and me that means we're not going to spend anything. they're going to save all of this. no. this water, didn't spend it all. this water is what he is saying we're going to freeze. it doesn't mean you're not going to save it. you are going to spend all of it. you are going to drink all of this water but you are not going to be able to get any more water here. we are not going to borrow any water from anyplace else. this is gone, this is gone. we're not borrowing anymore on these. we will or may borrow more here. got it? little fuzzy on things but he's pretty clear on this one. by the way, the estimated
2:18 am
saving on the deficit over the next ten years is this much water. ahhh. refreshing, isn't it? oh, wouldn't it be refreshing to have a little honor or integrity, or he would describe it transparency, because then it would give me what else he described. hope. we have an administration and a country that has been arrogant for a long, long time. but now it has gone so arrogant, it stands with a bow at its side. relaxed. with an attitude of invinceability holding the torch out, so it can see not so the world can see it. we are becoming the colossal of rhodes. not lady liberty. and if we don't notice the difference that the french made to tell the europeans we need to be more like this, if we don't notice the different between even the stance, our

2:21 am
2:23 am
yesterday at the begining of the show we have to get out of the fantasy world we're living in. when we address the problems and say we're america, we have a problem, everything is going to be okay. unfortunately, a lot of people says this is america. that's what they were saying at least before the recession and the economists laughed right with them. laughed off all the warning signs. not many amer in america, pleas! then during the recession, the economists laughed off all the warning signs that it could get worse. not in america. sounds like to colossal of rhodes, doesn't it? look what we have behind us. a lot of people, a lot of republicans back in the last administration were also laughing at that. don't worry, debt doesn't matter. yes, it does! we face crippling debt, high unemployment and concerns that everyone is laughing off china is surpassing the united states as the most dominant super power. again, not in america, can't happen. mm-hmm.
2:24 am
you know i read something about, it was a year ago. i've been reading a lot of history for the last couple of years. that phrase came up. it was common in the early 1900s. except it wasn't this is america. it was this is the british empire. i group up 90 miles north of seattle. in british columbia, they have a flag that was actually meant as a salute to england, around the turn of last century they came up with it. there it is. it really kind of show shows th last century arrogance. it shows the sun. called splendor without setting. remember, this at this time, the sun never sat on the -- set on the british empire. never! they were global. it was always light where great britain had power. when europe fought world war i, europe was stressed out
2:25 am
economically. now the greatest empire since rome struggled economically. these people had the biggest and the best fleet. they had more ships than anybody else ever had. what did they do when they were struggling? came to woodrow wilson. i hate this guy. he was a progressive that said i'm going to help you out. it was quite clever, actually. worked to our advantage. instead of diving in world war i with guns ablazing and say we're going to help clean this mess up, he had a different plan. he said we'll help and loan you money, buy up your debt. wilson was in the middle of his re-election campaign. back then americans did not want to go to war in europe. it's none of our business. they're like our founding fathers, their business, not ours. isolationists when it came to foreign policy. wilson's campaign used a slogan wilson, he'll keep us out of war. he did.
2:26 am
re-elected november 7, 1916. then sworn in on march 5, 1917. kept america out of war one month and one day later he formally declared war on germany. he was good for that promise for a month. by the end of world war i, the power shifted and really the schlubs, people like you and me, we didn't know it. the head of state did. the banks did. fwhauz's where the real battba dhashdhasdash that's where the real battle was won. then the world figured it out. the splendor of the british empire timely set. why do i tell you this story? because today is 1917. this time, the world's greatest power isn't great britain. the bank isn't the united states. but the game is the same. the world's greatest power is us and the bank is china. they're buying up everything
2:27 am
they can. they are buying everything. guess who is forced to listen to china now? just like great britain was-for-ed to listen to us. we told you yesterday we downgraded the search for chinese spies in america. you're kidding me? p. we're not pushing for tough sanctions on trade. we aren't the only ones. it's the whole free market. according to the "wall street journal," the reserve bank in australia was set to raids the interest rate for the fourth time since october to fight inflation over there. but then suddenly there was an unexpected pause, the latest increase was put on hold. why? one word. china. china told australia the interest rate hike was not good for the chinese. so off country saying raising the rate is best for our citizens to stop inflation and china says i don't think you're going to do that. and they didn't. australia is no longer sovereign if they're if the doing what is best for their citizens. why do you think we were
2:28 am
building ships in the 1930s for england? wait a minute. has that ever occurred to you. we were building ships for england. didn't they have the greatest fleet ever? what happened? well, after we took control of their debt, we told them get rid of your ships. was that in their citizen's best intereinterest? of course not. here comes the tipping point. we're quickly approaching it. where we don't make the best decisions for us, the citizens, anymore. they're not going to be head by us, the citizens. they are going to be made in the halls of large finance in beijing. we must wake up and stop spending. next. minutes for
2:33 am
special report. now back to glenn beck. >> glenn: you know, i'm so tired of the so-called experts, because they haven't gotten on all of this. they're scoffing now at the idea that china is the next superpower. i think it's already happened. we better wake up. i trust the regular americans more than the so-called experts. your agenda is america. what is their agenda?
2:34 am
i can't figure it out sometimes. 44% of americans now believe china is the leading economic power. what do the people know that the experts refuse to address? maybe experts don't know how to read. it just read the chinese government is cutting back on imports. i saw that and i went holy -- hmm? usually that wouldn't matter much. but remember how the fearless leader plans to save our economy. >> we will double our exports over the next five years, increase to support 2 million jobs in america. >> glenn: mm-hmm. biggest narcotic the w market i. china. china cutting back and america doubling things to sell to people who aren't buying. i don't think this is going to end well. who do you think will win in the end?
2:35 am
china is a new form of government, state run capitalism. it's ugly. thug communist country, that's who we are dealing with, but we have been so nicey nice, we don't even call them red china anymore. the way we used to do business 50 or 100 years ago we were nimble. we didn't have the government regulation, out of control unions. you could invent something, think it or do it and it was out there. we don't that anymore. we don't do it for a million reasons. one is unions. china is on the verge of problem of citizen unrest. i'm concerned what about is -- just as what we feel here, the chinese feel it over there. in a different way. for example, when they needed to build up beijing for economics, they brought in the migrant workers from the rice patty of the country side. this is not the real country side, man. country side in china is a place you wouldn't recognize.
2:36 am
a million construction workers taken out of 400 a.d. and brought to beijing, stuffed in the cramp living quarter like sardines and working on bamboo scaffolding, building the buildings and seeing the olympics. when the job was completed -- yeah, go back to your rice patty. i know it doesn't ring, but theirs rings. you see this and you go back to a rice patty. are you kidding me? how do you sustain that? you don't like it? how about a bullet to the head. that is the way china does business. we don't do business that way. thank goodness. they will win at any and all cost because people don't matter to them. remember, chairman mao. they will undercut every single time. all they need is the power. they're about to have it. we have a system here you can't cut, you can't move, you can't create or do what you want. have you been in a business
2:37 am
where somebody in the business, the work space nobody will fire. you can't fire him. why? either a lawsuit or union. look at a union problem with teachers from queens. see this guy? in 2001, alan rosenfeld, a typing teacher. he's the guy that some say you would eventual lip find on chris hansen. he was accused of making lewd comments to junior high school girls, "staring at their butts." he would say things like, "you have a sexy body." then he would ask them if they had boyfriends. finally one student was brave enough to testify against him and he was punished. know what he got? a slap on the wrist from the department of education. a week off without pay for conduct unbecoming a teacher. are you kidding me? you got daughters in school in are yo school -- in school? are you cool with that? cleared to resume teaching but the school chancellor, get this, school chancellor felt that rosenfeld might be
2:38 am
a danger to the kids. you think? wanted to fire him. nope. not in america anymore. common sense is dead. enter the unions. he can't be fired. why? union contract. so where has alan rosenfeld been? for nearly ten years, he spends his day in a department of education rubber room. for his efforts he earns $1,049 of new york taxpayers dollars every single year. this man is a millionaire for doing nothing. when he retires he will get paid half of the six days he's accumulated. he only has 435 of the sick days. he stands to collect a juicy pension of $82,000. taxpayer dollar every year. the pension grows each and every year by $1700. retirement age is 62.
2:39 am
he is 64. he decided not to retire for now. we can't even fire a guy the school is afraid might be a predator. he has a six-figure salary. why? the unions. what do you think in a race to the top. think this country will win or a guy to grab you from a rice patty say build the building on the bamboo scaffolding and back to the rice patty? is there not one decent person who values integrity more than their contract? i say most union members are those decent people. they love america as much as i do. this is not the union members. it's the leadership. like with soviets. it wasn't the soviet people. it's the leaders. we're all the same, republican, democrat, union, non-union, we're the same. we just have to cut the crap and start actually, start
2:40 am
2:44 am
>> glenn: i have to tell you, it's amazing. i think we're on a journey together that is different than anything i experienced if my lifetime. viewers and lepers have been stopping me and writing and saying they're learning history right along with me. and they're absorbed, i mean people are read aing like crazy. it wasn't until i started to read history myself and prove my daughter wrong on something i started to understand the importance it has on our lives, not just our past, but our future. take a listen to call it, i recently got on the radio because it reinforce reinforcesf the concepts we've talked about every night and you talk about with your family. the founding fathers got it. thigh knew the importance of limited government and the constitution. that's the answer here. you have to discover it on your own. just like the caller did. take a listen.
2:45 am
>> you inspired me to start learning my history and i started with the constitution. i'm reading the politically incorrect guide to the constitution. and the one thing that jumped out at me when i read this is that there was a debate by our founders on whether to have a national government, which is top down, you know, based on the british model or a bottom up version of the government called a federal government. where is states gave the rights bottom up to the federal government. we have --
2:47 am
year. because i think everybody is going to start -- all of the political shows and everybody else, they're all going to start talking about politics and the different races and republicans and democrats. i don't care who you vote for. i don't care if you vote for a republican or democrat. i'll vote for any of them if they understand what he did. if they understand the system of government and have a relationship quite honestly with the founding fathers. it's why when everybody started going this way i decided we have to root ourselves in the truth. keep you up to speed every day on everything happen manage the world, give you updates but give you perspective. you know, everybody else, like for tomorrow, on tomorrow's program i talk about the missile launch in iran. okay. what does that even mean? really? what does it mean? how do you even use that in your life? they had a missile launch. why do you need that information? you need that information because of the context i will put it in tomorrow that --
2:48 am
unless you have listened to me for the last five or six years on the radio, then you heard the iran thing. if you haven't, it will boggle your mind. yet i don't think anybody will put it in context. i know, i have never seen anybody put it in context. that missile launch yesterday was huge. huge! and hugely important. why? because of history and the people involved. i don't see a lot of people in washington. i see a few but i don't see many people in washington who understand these things and or take the time. do they know history? what is giving me hope this year, is that you automatically know these things are true. you know it in your gut. you know to have hope, i have to have the truth. what is the truth? give it to me. i'll take it. i also, to fix anything, you
2:49 am
also know you have to have honor. you can send another weasel politician. you know what they'll do? they will screw you, too. you can send a doesen in there, over and over and over again. unless we fix ourselves, unless we're rooted in truth, we're rooted in the principles that are correct, and we've pinned ourselves to honor, nothing is going to change. so while everybody else plays politics, with what do you say roll our sleeves and get to business every night? we'll be back in just a second. in 1977, an 8-year-old boy picked up the game of golf from his father. the odds of that same boy then making it to the u.s. and european pro-golf tours? 1 in 7 million. the odds of the "big easy" winning the u.s. open once twice? 1 in 1.2 billion. the odds of him having a child diagnosed with autism? 1 in 150. ernie els encourages you

>> glenn: america, we started this program with this. did he keep his promise? we have monumental problems. i mean, do we need healthcare reform? yeah! not the kind at least my opinion, not the kind that are being jammed down our throat. should we be able to keep our doctors? yes. gitmo, i don't even know. i say keep him there. but no signing statements, how about a president that is going to say i taught the constitution, i respect the constitution, and this is wrong. and then keep that promise. it was about the constitution! lobbyists, please. we're on an unsustainable path. you know it and i know it.

i don't think the parties know it yet. they will talk about it a little bit. there are a few in there that do. record deficit. but you know what? this is not what makes us unsustainable. i have tremendous hope because i know we can turn it around. the biggest problem in america right now is the deficit of trust. that's not who we are. do you trust your leaders? do you trust the people you voted for? do you trust them with your children? how many times do we have to get burned? how bad do these people have to get on both sides before we wake up and go you know what? i showed you tonight, that's what this was. did he keep his promise? he's given us a sacred oath. bush did the same thing. did they keep their word? democrats -- the republicans woke up. not at all them but a few of them. the last four years of george bush i was wide awake going

run, run! they're lying to you. democrats, please, we're running out of time here! i mean when the party abandons their principles for the all mighty power and they've both done it, you're in trouble. again, we can turn the country around. we can get back to the place where the founders intended america to be. but we don't need another politician. stop looking for more politicians. it starts with honor and trust. no more electing people because of the "r" or the "d." do you trust either of them? playing the "r" or "d" game serves them. not you. america needs leaders that will put people ahead of any political party and need it. it starts with you. how can you hold washington to a standard of keeping their promise if you don't. are you living it? say what you mean and mean what you say. be responsible and accountable for your actions. are you fair and honest in all of your business dealings? forget about the past. if you're not, change it now. live with honor.
