hi, elizabeth. >> hey, julie, the pastor spoke carefully this morning when he addressed thousands of members of his congregation and they've been waiting to hear from him allegations came out six days ago on tuesday. what he didn't say is that he was noent. now, he did say that he won't be resigning what he first said at the pulpit and said despite what many people think, he is not lostment he didn't abbicknowledge the four men directly and he says he's not accurately being portrayed in the media, i can at that a listen. >> i have never in my life portrayed myself as a perfect m man. man. but i am not the man that's being portrayed on the television. that's not me.

that is not me. . >> reporter: now, julie, he reiterated the comments at a scheduled press conference, it was a few minutes and he didn't accept any questions from the media and he seems to be concerned with the reaction of the congregation and we talk to all of the people who left the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. service and their reactions seemed to be mexed on one hand, people are passionately supporting him and some people are still on the fence and others say they left today feeling rather saddened, that they didn't believe what he had to say. take a listen. >> really, nothing was really said whether he was guilty or not guilty. >> i'm satisfied with what he's saying because i keep praying for him and his family. >> now, for the past two-- now for the past two decades the pastor has been very vocal against both homosexuality and gay marriage, julie.

>> julie: elizabeth, thank you very much. right now a decision that will impact every single american taxpayer in the country lying in limbo. people of all income levels waiting to see if they face a major tax hike. it could happen as soon as january if congress does not act to extend the bush tax cuts, as you probably know they are set to expire by year's end. recently senate democrats deciding to hold a vote on this hot buttton issue after the mid term elections. meanwhile, speaker of the house, nancy pelosi suggesting the house could hold a vote as early as this week, that would be before congressional members return to their home districts to campaign for november. about you today, the number two house democrat questioning that possibility. >> it would be a specious act for us, but what we have, what is not a specious act, chris, we have absolutely guaranteed that there will be no increase in middle income taxes. >> today the house republican leaders blasting democrats for

not backing up the guarantee, we'll get a vote in the next couple days. >> if we leave without preventing tax increases on the american people, it will be the most irpossibly they think i've seen in washington d.c. and i've been here a life. >> julie: it's getting ugly. julie kirtz with more. >> the house minority leader accusing democrats of causing more uncertainty for taxpayers by punting, he said the tax cut issue until after the mid terms and boehner says that congress should take the opportunity to vote this week and americans know the tax rates are going to be. >> to adjourn without dealing with this means that in their minds, the elections are more important than the jobs for the american people and it's just politics as usual. >> and senate minority leader michigan mcconnell is refusing to discuss a possible compromise with democrats saying the tax cuts should be

extended for everyone, including those making more than $250,000 a year. the question is do we want to raise taxes in the middle of a very, very tough economy, all the republicans think it's a bad idea and a substantial number of the democrats think the same thing. >> the top democrats in congress say americans aren't likely to get an answer on the big tax question before they go to the polls on november 2nd and they say that senate republicans are to blame. >> they want to cut taxes on some of the wealthiest americans and we want to make sure that middle income america, middle income americans don't have a tax increase and instructions in the senate have not allowed us to move forward. >> the argument over the bush-- or tax cuts could continue right to the mid term election and the lame duck congressional session. >> julie: julie kirtz, in washington. over an hour ago israel's agreement to freeze settlement construction expired. as the clock ticked down israelis rallied in the

streets of the west bank and the settlements are planned for areas palestinians want to use as their independent state. they're threatening to pull out of mideast peace talks if israel resumes construction. well, the state department saying hillary clinton reached out to prime minister netanyahu and representative tony blair urging them to help keep the negotiations on track. leyland vinner is live in jerusalem with the latest, leyland? >> late this evening, palestinian gunman opened fire and injured two israelis citizens on the west bank, clearly another tempt to try to derail the peace talks. as for the jewish settlement, now that the construction freeze is over, sunrise happens in about hour hours here, they're going to start construction once again. remember, if the construction freeze in large part that brought the palestinians to the negotiating table and the end of the freeze may mean the end of the peace talks. already on the west bank, construction has begun.

it's hard to emergency the amount of effort went into preventing this concrete from coming in and exactly what this hole represents, but this could be the beginning of the end of the middle east peace process. let me explain to you why. we're on an israeli settlement deep in the west bargaining, the land the palestinians want for their future state and, keep building to emphasize their point, a massive showout for the media despite busing people in, it appeared there was a whole lot more photographers and reporters from news organizations all over the world covering it, than there were settlers involved in putting the concrete down. another show, they are going to release about 2000 balloons into the sky and they say that represents the 2000 homes they intend to build on the west bank and as you can imagine, the palestinians are not happy about that situation. >> now, as for the palestinians, they have said a number of times, that if this freeze is not extended they're

screaming heads down, stay down and everybody breaks into cheers and applause. and you can see the sparks there on the runway, this happening, obviously, after sundown an and amazingly, everybody is okay. it happened at jfk airport after the control tower apparently received word of a delta plane's landing gear million functioning, the cool headed pilot safely bringing the plane down, but not before passengers first got a major scare. sparks flying as one of the plane's wings dragged along the tarmac, thanks god no fire and emergency crews waiting whether fuel in the wings would ignite into an explosion. thank god that didn't happen. when it came to rest all 60 people on board were alive and well as you can hear singing the pilot's praises. that man or woman is a hero tonight. well, it's lights, camera and action now as the tea party

concerned. some of them don't speak up because they just worry about not getting a job. i know many that stand up because they don't care, you know? they're not worried about their careers as much as they are about their country. >> so, yeah, pat boone is the emcee and victoria jackson from "saturday night live" and david horowitz is speaking now. >> julie: and i want to ask one more question, sorry. skipped a question here, what do the speakers say about washington? it's rare, by the way, in hollywood, considering it is more of a liberal town that you be hearing from celebrities, rallying behind tea party activists? >> well, that's true, but you know, 34% of california is registered republican. it wasn't about political parties, they were equally critical of democrats and republicans, calling on the same coin. what i heard was less government more freedom and a fear that washington is going to redistribute the wealth and take away their money.

sonata sedans sold in the united states. the company says it's due to a problem with the steering that could cause drivers to lose control. the national highway traffic safety administration opened an investigation into this issue last month. hyundai is calling the recall a preemptive action and says the issue has not caused any accidents or injuries. well, it's been a tough week for the navy seals. three died in a chopper crash in afghanistan. that's making today's kickoff of a nationwide bike ride event more poignant. members of the elite unions and veterans leaving san diego headed to florida raising money and awareness for the families of fallen seals. casey stegall joins us live from san diego with more, hi, casey. >> hi, julie, good to see you, we're talking about a big trek here, a 3300 mile journey to be exact and the riders left from beautiful coronado, california early this morning which is just across the bay from san diego. take a look at the pictures,

the riders on the road are relatively small group, only about five bikers, on the road for section weeks, stopping in more than 40 u.s. cities for food, water and rest and the ride ends in fort pierce florida on november 6th. the warfare foundation holding this bike ride to raise money for families of november seals who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. >> navel special worker foundation comes to the front lines and helps out the families in any type of assistance that we can. whether it's bringing relatives in from out of state, finding hotel rooms, providing any necessary flight travel, anything that it takes it make their, this tragic experience a little less painful. >> now, the start of today's ride, especially somber because three seals were among nine americans killed this past week in afghanistan on tuesday when a blackhawk

heavy political fire on the sunday shows today. republicans rallying behind their pledge to america after announcing it on thursday. meantime, democrats not to be outdone, highlighting what they say are cracks in the g.o.p.'s agenda. steve centanni. >> the document called the pledge to america lays out a broad frame work what they'd like to accomplish, most notably appealing hurricane and some say the document doesn't go far enough in cutting spending and while democrats say it's nothing, but a pledge to return to bush europe policies. that debate was played out on the talk shows and tea party republicans talked about the need to return it amorphous callie responsible government. >> and the truth is republicans didn't just lose our majority in 2006. woo he lost our way. we walked away from the principals of fiscal

discipline and reform that minted our governing majority and people walked away from us. the plan unveiled does not tackle the biggest spending problems of all, social security, medicare and medicaid. house minority leader john boehner say those details will come later. democrats, including congressman chris van holland says the pledge is old news and says that republicans put a new front page on it, but otherwise, it's a xeroxed copy. and house majority leader, steny hoyer calls it more spin than specifics and he makes reference to the up and coming young republicans called the why you think guns and congressman eric cantor, kevin mccarthy and paul ryan. the american public heard from the young guns, it turned out to be a pop gun, spin, not substance, in the specifics. it turned out to be a return to the failed bush policies. >> republicans are expected to make significant gains in the november election, but whether they can actually regain control of the house remains to be seen.
