12:00 am
don't be a -- that's not a good thing to be. as mallard fillmore knows. thank you for watching us tonight. i'm bill o'reilly. the spin stops here in west palm beach, florida, because we are definitely looking out we are definitely looking out for you. captioned by closed captioning servic >> sean: mid-term election is behind us and president obama's approval rate trumabling. they are swirling over who the republicans will nominate in 2012. i'm tucker carlson in for sean hannity. in 2012, republicans will put up a fight in the key swing states like ohio and florida. g.o.p. was able to sweep the gubernatorial and senate races in the state, with portman and kasich winning. and in florida where rubio and scott were also victorious. now who will step up and take
12:01 am
on a weakened barack obama? the president's poll numbers entered freefall from the moment he was sworn in. now possible contenders are starting to make waves, from palin, to greg palkot -- with tim pawlenty. we have the challenges facing president obama and "courage and consequence" and has a new chapter. it's fox news contributor. karl rove. how are you? >> thanks. i'm good. how are you? >> i couldn't be better. very striking this week, that david axelrod gave indications that the president would be willing to keep the bush tax cuts in place. the president seemed to contradict what the advisor
12:02 am
told the press. is this a grand strategy or chaos? >> they skr a strategy and want to make permanent tax cuts for those makes less than $250,000. and for the top 2%. that includes small businesses. make them temporary. i don't think it's acceptable deal. i don't think they can pass it unless the republicans cave. >> is it coordinated message that axelrod meant to say what he said and the president didn't walk it back? it seemed like there was confusion. >> there is always confusion when you have senior aides in washington and president on the other side of the world. if you take the radio address, and axelrod comments they're pointed to the same direction. we want the make permanent tax cut for people at the bottom. we realize we'll cut a deal on
12:03 am
the top two brackets. we'll see how it works out. but they've been trying to put themselveses in a place where they say $250,000 permanent. above it is temporary. can we make a deal? 31 members of the congress signed a letter. they say continue the tax cuts. it will be hard for them to do, i think do permanent or all temporary. they can't split it in half. >> the last mid-term expose weaknesses and a lot of weren't aware president had. states he did well in the presidential election. his party had a tough time. is that, are we seeing weakness in the president approval? >> we are. an interesting article today.
12:04 am
the president got 365 electoral vote. if they only carry state that mccain did, he picks up six electoral votes and obama loses the votes because they reapportion from blue to red states. but three states went back strongly and the democrats don't think they have a chance in 2012. ohio, michigan, pennsylvania, they moved to the republican column dramatically. that would be additional 70 electoral votes off of that if he loses that. in nevada, new mexico and iowa the republican governors in battleground states. it's another 18 electoral votes. as you said in the beginning, florida said the republican
12:05 am
senator and governor and picks up two electoral college vote s, that would be 29 off the total. he would be 67 below what he needs to remain in the white house. he has a lot of targets that are show iing weakness for democrats. >> who is the nominee on the republican side? >> i have ten. barbour, daniels, gingrich, huckabee, gypped jind, palin, tim pawlenty, pence, romney, thune. i am sure there will be others. there is no clear front runner. in 2008, mccain came in second. republicans genetically like to give the next guy, the guy in second a chance. in 2000, bush had the brand. we liked his dad.
12:06 am
2006, bob dole came in second. he deserved a shot. '88 was george bush, reagan's vice president. there is no front runner. romney. and huckabee strong at the end. palin, v.p. i have don't think there is an epresumptive front runner to be in the -- >> wait. by the analysis you gave, that the republicans typically nominate the guy who came in second last time, why not romney? is it the massachusetts healthcare plan that disqualifies him or not? >> we are in a different place. republican lost the genetic predisposition. every one of the candidates will have strength and challenges. they'll aum come out of the block in the same way. there's not one group here and one here. they each face three challenges. what is narrative?
12:07 am
why could it be you and not obama? what vision do you have for the country? second, do you show us explicitly or indirectly that you got decision-making ability, strength of leadership, the presence i wake up some morning saying i'm comfortable seeing you in oval office? do they give a sense they can unite the party? they face those challenges to magnify the strength and overcome challenges. it will be one of the most interesting presidential contests from a long time. more the merrier. the more robust, more likely republicans have a shot in 2012. >> i know this is its own show but in a minute sarah palin had impressively strong showing in a poll in a fum of states -- number of states, texas and west virginia. how strong is she as potential capped date and do you think
12:08 am
she will run? >> i don't know if she will run. she gave an impressive speech in arizona attacking the fed decision to pump $600,000 in the committee. she made a convincing case that it raised the spectrum of inflation. that there was no guarantee it'd stimulate the economy. that it would raise the prices. the interesting thing is it's all the polls and we will see the good polls for the various candidate candidates but an 11 or 12-month slog for people making up their mind. like in late 2007 to settle the contest with hillary or barack. i have don't know how it will play out. >> drama, a great story. appreciate it. >> you bet. you bet. >> coming up, huckabee, dennis rodman and the great american panel. but first, the administration prepares for another czar to join the ranks.

ya jackwagon! tissue? crybaby. geico. fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. speaker nancy pelosi shocked republicans and democrats alike when she announced she would run for minority leader of her party. despite the mid-term stunning
12:13 am
defeat, some of the left thinks she's needed. the president seems to agree. >> i think speaker pelosi has be outstanding partner for me. harry reid has been a terrific partner moving very difficult legislation forward and i look forward to working with the leadership team. to continue to make progress. >> he's not the only one who thinks she should keep the leadership role. some think that she is "irreplaceable." they cite her fundraising skill and her ability to hold the caucus together. so should pelosi stay in the running? joining me is author of a new children's book and host of "huckabee" on the fox news channel. mike huckabee. thank you for coming on! >> thank you. >> that's like a hostage take from the president. it admire nancy pelosi.
12:14 am
why is he saying nice things about her? >> it's unbelievable. partnership? like bonnie is to clyde? this is a partnership and they throw the train off the rails. except they live in the rarefied air of liberalism and think americans haven't understood how wonderful all the thing they've done for us will make our lives. >> they believe it was communication problem and the president wasn't on the enough. doing myth busters wasn't saturation enough. they understand they lost the election. she is keeping her job. that doesn't make sense to me. >> as a republican i'm delighted. early christmas gift to all conservative republicans. two years ago, the president after his victory in the white house sweeps stakes says
12:15 am
elections have consequences and we have won and we have a right to do what we want to do. if that is true, recognize that elections have consequences. >> right. >> americans handed you your head. do you remember the character that rick played in "ghost busters"? >> very well. >> he had an unrealistic view of how people were thinking of him. he thought he was the life of the party and in fact he didn't belong. i think when i see president obama saying i'm having a great week here at g-20. we didn't have that bad of an election day. rick morantis of "ghost busters" comes to mind because it's like he is out of touch with reality of what happened with the democrats and the mood of the country in 12 months. >> so nancy pelosi has been a great boon for republicans. she lost for seats than a republican has.
12:16 am
shouldn't they just embrace her? congratulations on wise choice? >> some of them have! every republican i know is down on his knees every night let the democrats keep nancy pelosi as the face and voice of the party. not because she is evil. that's not my point. but her politics are like geography. san francisco left coast. so out of touch with middle and most of america that it helps republicans say do you believe that or this? it's the ultimate taste test. giving republicans platform. unlike barack obama who was skillful in the election, hides to a large degree the overt liberalism. she doesn't hide it.

she's proud of it and want mrs. of it. the healthcare bill that most thought was sharp right turn, she didn't think it did enough. many of us were appalled you could spend another $1 trillion and get nothing for it. truly the hope of most americans she maintains that slot. >> my empresentation is there are very few left to disagree with her. they all lost. the few who remain, shuler, congressman from north carolina, reasonable, horrified by nancy pelosi. >> this is the most liberal than it could be. the democrats in arkansas you're familiar with. they are all gone. retired or left in a body bag after election day.
