here is peter doocy with the details. where is sarah now. >> right now, 13-year-old sarah maynard who is alive is in a hospital recovering from what is being described as a nonlife threatening condition. there was a combination of good work and tips that led an s.w.a.t. team to 30-year-old matthew hoffman's house today where they were hoping to recover sarah, mother, brother cody and friend stephanie sprang and there was no sign of them, but they did find sarah bound and gagged in the basement and the sheriff wouldn't say what she was tied up with, but made clear that she was restricted in a way that prevented her from crying for help while her rescue was underway. they believe she was kidnapped by hoffman sometime the middle of last week. >> we would estimate that she's been under the control of mr. hoffman since wednesday. aen in one form or another, and that one location or another. >> and that suspect, matthew hoffman has been charged with

one count of kidnapping and the sheriff says more charges are likely as this case unfolds. julie. >> what else do we know about the suspect here? >> well, we know at this hour he is not cooperating with police, but that police say he can definitely lead them to the location of those who remain missing. we don't know if he had the connection to any of the missing persons, but we do know that neither of the missing welcome are girlfriend of his and we just heard from one of hoffman's neighbors that he broke up with his own girlfriend about three weeks ago and that was known as being kind of a home body, but recently, he was seen coming and going from his house a lot and he always had a backpack. we also did some digging into high school past and found out that he was once convicted for arson for setting a fire to cover up a burglary and found trouble once again. a bond hearing is expected tomorrow morning. julie. >> julie: all right. peter doocy, thank you very much. we'll continue to follow this developing story and bring you updates as they come into the hues room.

organized by d.c. insiders and lobbyists, members of the ruling class. the tea party patriots also made public private e-mails and phone numbers of the new members and they later apologized for that and backed off the criticism of the other event and now we got response to the controversy from some republicans and south carolina duncan got hundreds of e-mails. >> i got about over 400 e-mails and i'm fine with that, but i was one of the first congressional members elect to rsvp to this event and so-- >> and you welcome that kind of pressure? >> it wasn't really pressure to me. it was encouragement to do what the voters wanted us to do. and e-mails from all offer the country and some phone calls from my district and sort coming to this event anyway to show my support for them and to talk with fellow colleagues that are like minded and i think that a lot of people are trying to play out a

circumstance where you have some attempted conflict and there isn't anything, it's all the purpose of trying to get responsibility in government, accountability in government and the republican party, the members elected and i think the tea party are certainly in concert. >> now, some republicans attended one event or the other, and many told us they stopped by both and they know they're going to have to juggle competing times after they're sworn in. >> julie: thank you very much. president obama returning home to washington after a trip to asia. even before he landed back in the states. the middle east. the president talking to reporters on board air force one. praised israeli prime minister netanyahu. reportedly getting behind a washington plan to revive israeli-palestinian peace talks and the prime minister said he would ask his government to accept a new freeze of settlement in the dispouted west bank and

president obama calls the developments very constructive step. well, your money, it's a big topic on the sunday talk shows today and gripping lawmakers on capitol hill the bush era tax cuts. meeting with the president this week, expected to start hammering out a deal and now, if there's no deal during the lame duck session, the cuts expire on january 1st, and a major question will president obama cave-in to pressure. and david axlerod on fox news sunday, he said the president would be willing to discuss a temporary extension, but there will be no permanent extension for the wealthy. >> the president believes we should extend the tax cuts for the middle class and the middle class took a terrible beating over the last decades. wages declined and they've born the breadth of this recession and wrong thing to

do as the bush taxes were allowed to expire on january the 1st and feels we had to proceed in a way that's fiscly responsible and we can't afford to borrow another 700 billion dollars for tax cuts that almost entirely are going to go to millionaires and billionaires, we just don't have that money. . >> julie: the main sentiment on capitol hill is for all the cuts to be extended. republican senator john mccain of arizona said now is not the time for tax hikes. the foundation to be extended until we're out of this recession and such time then we could look at other tax hikes, but we're in a serious recession, i cannot believe that raising taxes is a good thing on anybody. >> julie: we'll take a much closer look at the tax issue with a report from washington later here on the fox report. a tragic shooting leaves three university of mississippi football players in critical condition. what was going on when the bullets started flying and paul and rachel chandler planned to spend six months at

>> the search is on for a man cops say, killing five people. another man involved is under arrest, it happened on route 98 in california, a two lane highway a few miles north of the mexican border and east of san diego. a man apparently driving a honda tried to pass the group of bikers into the oncoming lane. only problem there was someone in that lane headed toward him and the move forced that driver to lose control and slam into the motorcycles. he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. the driver of the honda didn't

stop and the motorcyclists had been celebrating their 10th anniversary as a group. the university of southern mississippi now confirming the names of three varsity football players shot in a nightclub brawl. mississippi police say a fight broke out inside remmington's hunt club in haties burg sunday morning and the scuffle apparently spilled outside when a suspect allegedly put pulled out a gun and opened fire and senior martin smith and junior green and dedric jones and all three men are reported to be in fair condition tonight and police have not made any arrests in their investigation. they spent 388 days held hostage by somali pirates, paul and rachel chandler are finally free and the british couple planned to spend six months at sea and the plans came it an early end when the pirates boarded their yacht and took them deep inside

somalia. right now, the chandlers are in kenya preparing for their trip home. emma herd from our sister network, sky news have the rest of the story. >> they're expected here in nairobi, the residents of the bresh high commissioner they will have a chance to have a decent night's sleep probably the first time in 388 nights so i think it's probably the first time that they've slept in a decent bed. so after resting here tonight, they are expected to return home to the u.k. tomorrow. there are a couple of flights from nairobi, back to london, heathrow tomorrow and we're sure they will be back with family and friends as soon as possible and recognized it's not just difficult for them this period of incarceration, but so hard, too, for the family and friends left behind in the u.k. and including the close relatives that have been involved in this whole process, this difficult

negotiations, the stressful process, involving money changing hands, which is eventually led to their freedom, first in somalia and finally them being transported here to kenya where i think they are considered to be finally safe. so, they are out. they came to leave here as soon as possible, but opted to have a rest first. >> julie: thanks, emma herd with the sister network sky news. the chandlers are freed and plenty of others who are not. somali pirates are currently holding more than 500 people, a large number are filipino sailors, and pirates still hold at least 20 ships and they are raking in the cash as well. estimates of the ransom paid to the pirates are in the tens of millions of dollars. and a big cause of the problem, somalia has been without a functioning government, since 1991. we're getting a first look at the new propaganda from the taliban and afghanistan. the u.s. military says there's

hospital. the storm dropping nearly a foot of snow there. downing trees, knocking out power, to a lot of homes. in minnesota, police say of the hundreds of accidents, there were nearly 50 reported injuries. and new information just in from mexico tonight. a local official is blaming a gas leak for a massive explosion, killing seven people at a popular beach resort, encredibly powerful blast, hurling the floor of a hotel in cancun. five canadian turists and a child are among the dead. two others including two u.s. were hurt. officials say it was an accident not part of a deliberate act. a sobering warning about the war in afghanistan. general david richards says the west can never completely defeat al-qaeda. they can only contain them,

but richards also believes that coalition forces can achieve a balance allowing westerners to live in peace, free from the threat of al-qaeda terrorists and ending the combat roll in afghanistan the next three or four years, the latest news from the ground, the war on the ground. a cash of insurgent attacks against the southern and eastern afghanistan area killing 11 people, including five n.a.t.o. soldiers so that are this month at least 31 coalition troops have died fighting militants. this comes as we're now getting a first look at disturbing new video. this is taliban recruiting videos, first being seen today among other things, one tape shows the training of an 8th grade aged boy to be homicide bomber. connell powell is in afghanistan with more. >> for some time the u.s. commanders say that the taliban after a fierce summer of fighting are in a weakened position, relying more and more on younger and younger fighters to launch attacks and

even say that the taliban are beginning to run out of money. now, today, u.s. command,released a taliban recruiting video, well produced video and it shows the taliban commander asking for money. the video is not aimed at afghans, but rather arabs from the middle east, saudi arabia and the united arab emirates. despite the u.s. commander claims that the taliban are in a weakened position, many say the taliban are strong and control large parts of afghanistan and are able to launch attacks both in rural and in populated areas across the country. in recent weeks, commanders have been saying that the surge of american troops is working as it's beginning to clear out insurgents from places like hellman and kandahar and it's very, very early to make any predictions about successes here in afghanistan. and there's even growing disagreement about the current u.s. strategy today, afghan president hamed karzai told "the washington post" in an interview, that the u.s. should begin to wind down

call was on november 2nd. the ship flies a liberian flag and the palestinians were found in a forward crane pedestal hiding for about 11 days. >> our thanks to mayorline of wpri. i'm julie banderas and this is the box report. it is the bottom of the hour, time for the top of the news now, we're following the latest developments in the search for a missing ohio family. and today, police discovered 13-year-old sarah maynard bound and gagged in the family's basement. but still no sign of her mother, brother or their friend. and peter doocy joins us once again with the latest details tonight, peter. >> reporter: julie, that's right. 30-year-old matthew hoffman is under arrest tonight because 13-year-old stephanie maynard was found bound and gagged in his basement earlier today and she is okay, but her mom and brother and friend are still missing. an s.w.a.t. team moved on hoffman's mt. vernon, ohio home about 40 miles north of columbus, acting on some of

their own intel and tips they had received. hoping to find more than one of those missing people. that doesn't happen, but they say that hoffman can definitely lead them to the location of the others, but he is not cooperating at this time. they also say it's unclear what if any connection hoffman has to sarah, her mother, her brother or their friends and we spoke to one of matthew's neighbors a while ago who said that hoffman broke up with his girlfriend about three weeks ago and coming and going from his house, unusual amount lately, always carrying a backpack, which they describe as uncharacteristic. so, julie, at this hour, hoffman is in jail. sarah maynard is in the hospital recovering from a nightmarish week. back to you. >> julie: peter doocy, thank you so much. other headlines developing at this hour, police in california are looking for a driver they say caused a deadly motorcycle crash and then left the scene.

five people were killed when police say a guy driving a honda caused another car to swerve into the motorcycle. a british couple is three after 388 days held captive by somali pirates. paul and rachel chandler were sailing the world on the 30 foot yacht, pirates demanded a ransom they couldn't afford. >> and president obama is back after a ten day trip. and spoke to reporters on air force one about the weeks ahead and plans to place attention on policy and bipartisan effort to connect with the american peoplement how much you pay in taxes the big issue in washington now. as you know, the current tax law is set to expire at the ends of the year. and as lawmakers return to capitol hill this week. they are getting ready to decide on whether or not to extend the bush era tax cuts and top lawmakers planning to meet with president obama this week hoping to hammer out a deal. the president, meantime, is against a permanent extension

for the wealthy. but his advisor, david axlerod appearing earlier today says he's willing to talk about a temporary extension. julie kirtz has more from washington. >> with time running out on the bush era tax cuts, this is the number one issue, the lame duck congress and the president will tackle, mr. obama meets with republican and democratic leaders this week to start the process. the top white house advisor, david axlerod refusing to reveal the president's hand. >> i'm not going to negotiate with you on this program. >> on fox news sunday, walking back from earlier comments that the president was ready to give in, axlerod insisting the white house hasn't changed its position against a permanent extension of cuts for upper income taxpayers, but refused to rule out a temporary one. >> i've heard many different verifications discussed over the last week publicly, i've heard a variety of ideas surface publicly by various

members of congress and others, and we're looking forward to getting together with the leaders of both parties in congress. >> if they let them expire the bottom tax rate will jump from 20 to 15%. top rates 39 in6% from 35%. a key party backer jim demint sounding ready to deal on the two or three-year extension of cuts for wealthy americans. >> well, if that's all we can get out of the president then he is the president, so we'll work with him on that, but i hope he doesn't come back with the idea that oh, we're going to raise taxes on 750,000 small businesses, as he's been talking about. i think if he can work on our side of the ledger, i think we might can work together. . >> so, it sounds like a compromise may be worked out with neither side here eager to telling americans this this economy that their paychecks are getting sliced and taxes
