the boeing 67 like the one on the screen was on the way to moscow, pilots said they lost the left engine shortly after take off. in fact there was no fire on board, that's good news, but pilots had to dump a whole lot of fuel to land and still getting information what went wrong and we don't know yet, but the 193 passengers on board are okay. we're all over the story and we'll bring you updates as soon as they come into our news room and also developing on the fox report. the head of the transportation security administration issuing a statement late this afternoon on airport security. it seems to be a change in tone from what john pistole said about security, there's been wide outcry over the tsa screening measures. body screeners that can see through the clothing and pat downs and many call invasive and they want them scaled back. take a listen this morning when he was asked about

changing the procedures. and i'm very an i tuned, given all the concerns that have been raised to answer the question directly, no, we're not changing the policies, because of that, because of the risks that are-- have been identified because of the current threat. >> all right. so that was a few hours ago, now, a short time pistole issued a new statement, saying the policies are being refined. what does that mean in malini wilkes is in washington to explain, hi. >> hi, harris. >> as you heard this morning on one of the sunday shows, tsa says the agency is not changing the policies of new screening techniques, there's a continuing threat, but later saushd a statement indicating he's not slamming the door on security in the future. saying, quote, we are constantly evaluating and adapting our security measures. this has always been viewed as an evolving program that will be adapted as conditions warrant. but he suggested that we

probably won't see any changes during the holidays or anytime soon. in a statement he goes on to point out that the underwear bomber tried to strike less than a year ago. and terrorists targeted cargo planes less than a month ago and passengers know, if you do not put up the regular metal detectors you won't be on the body scanners or pat downs some are calling a groping. we should focus on improved intelligence and documents and using body scanning machines that reveal less of your figure. they say the tsa is not being proactive. it's treating everyone like a criminal is an inefficient use of resources. >> touching people's junk and the way they're doing it right now doesn't address some of the threats i've heard about. you've got terrorists who now are surgically implanting explosives. you've got them using body cavities. i can give you the instances.

economy to hemorrhage money and saying it's a sign of al-qaeda's evolving strategy. >> i give credit to a lot of people to, at this point in time, that they haven't been able to pull something like this off. because it's a very serious threat and i believe what they're saying. they've grown, it's dangerous and a place we need to focus. >> al-qaeda and yemen led by the radical cleric, al-awlaki and linked to attacks including the fort hood massacre and the attempted christmas day bombing. and the taliban promising to keep up the fight in afghanistan and force n.a.t.o. to draw before the 2014 deadline and plan to do it making it impossible for a stable government to take hold there. connor powell from kabul. the taliban are publicly mocking the u.s. plan to hand over security to afghan forces by the end of 2014. today in a statement, a taliban spokesman described

the plan as irrational and an inzoo of failure and demanded all u.s. and international troops out of afghanistan immediately, and promised further bloodshed to international troops stayed. the current u.s. strategy focuses on building up the afghan security forces so they can handle security responsibility with a goal of handing over responsible by 2014. the taliban are trying to prevent the afghan government from standing up and taking over and u.s. foreclosures say they're making progress, clearing out the taliban from key areas like kandahar and hellman, but the process of installing the afghan government is going much, much slower than western officials thought. u.s. troops clear, u.s. troops hold and wait for afghan government officials to arrive and take over. without a credible afghan government to take over responsibility and handle security, the taliban will likely be able to continue their reign of terror and violence across afghanistan making any transfer of power

[ snores ] i see your pnt. yeah. snores ] [ malannouncer ] we understand.® you need a partner who delivers convenience. next time use fedex office. >> welcome back. an intense manhunt underway in utah now stretching into a second day. police searching for a man accused of gunning down a park ranger. at this hour there is pretty tough terrain and throughout the canyons near dead horse state park along the colorado river. the man considered to be armed and dangerous and investigators thought it started friday night.

the ranger stopped the suspect near a popular hiking trail and for some reason turned violent. they draw their guns and brody young called for help and he got it. they rushed him into surgery and we're told he's in critical, but stable condition. they recovered the suspect's car, rifle, backpack and a bloody t-shirt and believe he may have been wounded in the gun fight. investigators are not releasing the name of the suspect, but he does not have an extensive criminal background. we'll bring you updates as we get them. and we're also awaiting autopsy results tonight on a young mom and three small children who were murdered in florida. the street in front of the home where they live now reopened. police found their bodies yesterday after getting a very suspicious call and aren't ewill be rati elaborating how they were killed. it was a young single mom with

twin six-year-old girls and a three-year-old boy. and robe sue chasen, hundreds of people attending her funeral and they haven't identified any suspects in her murder, but in a statement. believing the murder is an isolated incident. chasen was behind the wheel, someone shot and killed her early tuesday morning. she was driving home from a premier party for the movie "burlesque", a trial date set now for three americans accused of spying for iran, february 6th. shane bower and josh patel still in an iranian president and the third person arrested, sar sar sarah shourd, she had not been summoned to return to appear in court. they were taken custody more than a year ago while hiking along the iraq border. an israeli military court sentencing two soldiers during

the gaza strip war. now critics say the decision is too light and last year israel sent troops to stop hamas militants from firing missiles at israeli territory. our leyland vitter is in jerusalem with more. >> hi, harris, an israeli military court made it clear that the two soldiers crossed a dark line when they made a nine-year-old palestinian boy search bags for explosives or bobble booby traps. the soldiers were given three months pro bags and busted down to the rank of sergeant for activities in 2009. the judge admonished the two for putting the man in harm's way to search for explosives during a raid in gaza city. during the war it was common for militants to hide or store their weapons in civilian homes and the soldiers said they suspected that may have

been the case when they took the boy from his mother and made him search the bags in an apartment building. the bags turned out to be harmless, but the court said using a child in that way was unacceptable and handed down the punish pt that included a suspended jail sentence that was unbecoming. the bare will be allowed to serve as commanders in their reserve units. the conviction comes as another pr blow to the is rile army earlier this year had to explain pictures posted on facebook of young soldiers humiliating palestinian detainees, and soldiers patrolling a west bank town while dancing to kesha's song "tick-tock". ♪ >> the youtube video became an internet hit that helped fuel anger among palestinian who say humiliating treatment is common by israeli soldiers.

icht. >> mike: welcome back. a robbery turning deadly near the campus of an ivy league university. two hijacked a car. a mile from the university of pennsylvania. officers chased the men until they took off on foot and bullets started flying as they passed behind the library. shot and killed one man and the other arrested. more than 300 car crashes in one night. why? take a look. freezing rain coating the roads in central and southern minnesota with ice, the slick roads forcing cars to slam into one another and spin out in the ditches. one person died in the mess and dozens hurt and in some cases people were injured slipping, walking on the ice. at one point, the wait to get

an ambulance was pretty long. there was such a high demand for it. well, all that freezing rain part of a major storm system moving across parts of the country. what is next weather-wise, will it affect thanksgiving travel? meteorologist maria molina is in the weather center for us. >> harris, that's right. a lot of freezing rain and once again in southern minnesota for early monday morning. anyone heading out to work out there, definitely a concern and otherwise, pretty quiet out there, not a whole lot going on, but we do have a lot of problems and currently across the grand junction area, a lot of snow out there and to the west over parts of utah and nevada. we'll watch this area, expecting several feet of snow so definitely a concern and for the west, another pacific storm arriving and driving on i-5 will be a little tricky out there, harris. >> harris: wow, the west coast gets two, two hits in one week. >> and that's going to be

>> i'm harris falkner in tonight for julie banderas and this is the fox report. it's the bottom of the hour, time for the top of the news. touch and go over the skies in new york city, a delta flight forced to make an emergency landing, headed for moscow when authorities say it reported engine trouble and had to turn back. nobody hurt. early reports about a fire on one of the planes wings were uncorrect. and the head of the tsa toning down remarks he made earlier today about airport security. john pistole saying earlier the new screening policies that many people say are invasive will not change. and hours later, he ka came out with a brand new statement, saying the procedures are continually being refined. police now looking for whoever killed a young mom and three small children, found murdered inside the florida home yesterday and police are not releasing their names. neighbors say the victims were a single mom, six-year-old twins and a three-year-old

boy. new fears tonight. north korea could use a once secret nuclear facility to create fuel for weapons. the u.s. unaware of the plant until a group of american scientists got a very close look. julie kirtz has more from washington. >> the team is led by an american scientist who toured the secret nuclear complex earlier this month. in a report posted online, the head of the former los alamos nuclear lab says north korea has recently completed centrifuges in a facility suitable of making bombs and describes the first glimpse as stunning. officials told him cent centrifuges were running.

and refused to detail how much the u.s. knows. >> i would say that this is something we've been concerned about for significant period of time. now, and also, penetration of the north koreans in terms of intelligence capabilities is very, very difficult. >> the fact that north korea showed a visiting american scientist the new enriched uranium appears to be a calculated move and now a new challenge for the obama administration. >> i don't think anybody in the obama administration should be surprised at this. if they are, i think it indicates they've never understood how serious the north korean threat is. >> a senior u.s. official tells fox if the report is true, it's a provocative act of defiance by the north korean government. the action is possibly timed to strengthen the communist nation as to moves to transfer power to the son of dictator kim jong-il.

>> harris: good to see you, julie, thank you. and the victims in line for the bp oil spill, have until monday to file for short-term damages and will will be offered a phenal settlement check. if they cash the check they'll sign away the right to sue the oil giant and if the long-term damages amount to more than the sment. they will be out of luck. more than 400,000 claims have been filed so far, fewer than half of those have been paid for approved for payment. two big hunting stories with two very denver outcomes and one town says no to veal. two stops on a fox trip across america. >> wisconsin, hunters in madison headed out for opening day of hunting season and kind of a rough for enforcement across the state. department of natural resources reporting four people were shot. one in serious condition, despite the incidents though, officials saying visual

coast after hurricane katrina. massachusetts, enjoy your veal while you can. because it may be much harder to find. voters passing a resolution asking restaurants and vendors to stop serving veal due to what they call treatment of the baby cows. and the resolution not banning it entirely and one shop will continue selling it. that's a fox watch across america. all right. we're getting information now about another incident having to do with a plane and again, it's delta airlines, this time out in atlanta at hartsfield international airport. here is what we're learning so far. a plane, delta 125 taking off for lax, los angeles international. it had to turn back in atlanta a short time ago because of a reported engine failure and when it landed at heartfield, apparently it scraped its tail on the runway, but we're told everybody is okay. that's two delta flights tonight. one in new york and they landed safely at jfk, the late he is one in atlanta.

>> there's a lot going on on the fox report of the ireland now joining the ranks of greece, becoming the second european nation to accept a multi-billion dollar international bailout. ireland's prime minister announcing his country agreed to less than 140 billion dollars in emergency loans. the money will come from the national union and for weeks the government denied needing a bailout for the debt ridden banks and apparently others forced dublin into accepting it. imagine that, somebody forcing you to pay your bills. the big focus on investors this week, black friday, it's the day after thanksgiving when retailers give huge discounts and hope they're not in the red, they want to be in the black, making some money, baby. shoppers racing to find the business bargains, lining up for hours outside stores like wal-mart and target waiting to snatch up holiday gifts at the best price. will the holiday cheer spill over into the economy as a

whole, like a 401 t and everything else? patricia powell, founder of powell financial group is here. you said something when you first sat down that intrigued me. the year of the shopping comeback. >> absolutely, we've had terrible shopping for the holland for the last several years, understandably. a couple of years ago, we didn't know whether we were going to come out of it or go into depression and last year, you know, we still were struggling with very high unemployment. this year, we've now-- we're now officially in recovery, this year, yes, we have 9.36% unemployment. >> harris: you don't want to miss that. >> guess what, 139 million of us have jobs. 139 million of us have jobs and i think what's happening now, we have a wealth effect that's coming really from the stock market. we've often used that term for real estate in the past. we feel better, we've had the dow is up about 1800 points, 1800 points in the last 52 weeks.

two delta airline flights forced to make emergency landings in two different cities and both of them boeing 767's and we're getting word a flight bound from atlanta, bound tore lax, reported engine failure and we're told the plane scraped its tail on the runway. no debris was found, everybody is all right. a similar scare on the east coast, a delta flight out of jfk headed to moscow forced to turn back. the same model plane we told you about, reported one engine failed and dumped fuel before landing and passengers are said to be okay. and the jet landed safely. >> and on this day in 1980, 350 million people tuned into the prime time tv series dallas and finally learned the answer to the question, "who shot jr" the series dallas was a hit and sparking the trend
