2:00 am
but i'll kick his ass. >> that does sound like a challenge. we'll see if the president responds. that is your last call. lights are blinking and we're closing down shop. make sure to follow us on twitter. and the o'reilly factor is next. good night from washington, d.c.. dododododododododot get it. my parents said if you do not succeed try and try again. i don't think is true in america. if you don't succeed, it is now "cheat." remember when we told you of net neutrality that they would begin to protect you on the interpret? it was called net neutrality. well, they will do it. we told you they would. most relaxed. they will do it anyway. the fcc will go ahead and regulate the interpret. this was rejected by congress.
2:01 am
fcc chairman julius is his name, believes he has the legal authority to do so and set a vote on december 21st. but it is only about fairness and protecting you, about neutrality, nothing to worry about. not like we have a regulatory czar whether wants to dictate what you see open the internet. >> if you are reading a conservative side they would provide a link to a liberal site and vice versa to make it easy to get access to competing views or a popup on the scream that would show an advertisement or quick argument for competing view, or voluntary arrangements in that direction it would be great and if we can't maybe congress should hold hearings about mandates. >> they did and they rejected it
2:02 am
and now the fcc is doing it and that is why we have a regulatory czar, he had a dream job and he is making his dreams come true and they will be our nightmare. also, president obama is losing ground on the bush tax cuts and if he cannot get this done, he will push the idea of a value-added tax. it has to be great because it had value in the title. and europe, which we have been watching for quite some time and warning before anything was perk -- percolating, and now it is a mess. europe is presented with a choice, this from the financial times, the fact is we are now near the point at last when europe's policymakers will be faced with either setting up a fiscal union or sitting back and watching as our banks implode around us. i thought they said this would not happen? if you had to pick today, is freedom marching or in retreat?
2:03 am
we have seen this over and over and over again, all throughout history. man becomes free. man picks come -- come placeent, man loses freedom and becomes a slave. no one could predict the fall of rome. but they fell. they would know it if they read history. we are repeating the exact mistakes of ancient rome and open the fast track to writing the next chapter of history titled "the rise and fall of american empire and man's freedom." yeb yb -- glenn beck hello, mechanic. did you see the movie "matrix." you take a red pill. or the blue pill.
2:04 am
that is what someone was presented. a choice. >> your last chance. after this there is no turning back. you take the blue pill, the story ends. you wake up and believe whatever you want to believe. you take the red pill and you stay in wonderland and i show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. may i give you the choice? take the blue pill, turn the channel. go back to sleep. find out how deep the hole is? where we are going. rollover and go back to sleep. or open your eyes. and see our future by looking into the past. those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. that is a cliche but only because it's true. we don't know our own history, 6 percent of americans do not know
2:05 am
that 4th of july is to celebrate the breaking away from great britain, 26 percent! if we knew our history we would take lessons from legendary civilizations that fell before us because they all fall in the same way. the soviet union, germany, france. france during the french revolution, hugely important to us today. and rome. this is a pattern i highlighted in my book "broke," in the first six pages we go on to rome because it's spooky how much we are doing like rome. here is the bowl curve of history. the, expansion. and the cop -- contraction. people come together, you grow, you mature, you become overextended, and decline. and legacy. over and over and over again,
2:06 am
same way. tonight i want to take a look at the time line of the rise and fall of rome. i will not show you much in the rise but i will show you, compare the decline. we will show you where we are in comparison. but before we start, everyone thinks of the roman empire but there is something important. most people never take the time to explain that rome wasn't always an empire. it was a republic. at first. there was freedom. things went well. so they expanded. and, then, when freedom started to fall apart, they became an empire. they went from freedom to feeding people to lions for sport. now, how do you go from a decent people that are expanding to taking people and feeding them to lions? if we progress, if we are all so
2:07 am
progressive, shouldn't it go the other way, you feed people to lions and then you dope -- don't. former comptroller of the u.s. has served both republicans and democrats and was frustrated with both so he left government service and he said people have to know the truth. he knows how deep the rabbit hole is and says "there are striking similarities between america's current situation and that of another great power from the past, rome, the roman republic fell for many reasons but three are worth remembering: declining moral values and political civility at home." how are we doing on that one? and overconfident and overextended military in foreign lands. how are we doing on that one? boys, you are watching me overseas, are you tired yet? and, three, fiscal
2:08 am
irresponsibility by the central government. those were the three things that caused the collapse of the roman empire. does any of that sound familiar? it should. because that is us. read the newspaper. the founders knew that it was up to the individual, they knew as a collective man stuck on ice, man could make progress but he would make it with each generation as an individual. thomas jefferson said we should have a vote after every generation and there should be a new form of government every general. why? because every general was different. man does not progress beyond natural man, past brutality as a collective. it is an individual struggle, individual salvation and individual struggle. history shows us when man tries to control freedom and put the collective ahead of the individual it never, never ends
2:09 am
well. rome was a functioning republic. a republic is just like what we were in the first 100 years. but as the wars mounted and as bureaucracy expanded, as power became more and more centralized, remember, that is not the way our republic was sent up. we were not supposed to have centralized power. that's why we left england, too much power in the hands of too few people. well, when the bureaucracy started up, all the regulations and everything else, it took quite a toll on the economy. and on the individual. they usually go together. because when you have pure accuracy and you cannot get things done, personal ambitious withers especially if the government starts taking stuff. and giving it to others. hand outs begin and that causes people to be complacent and say
2:10 am
forget it, it is not worth it. it was written in "history of the decline and fall of the roman empire," and i quote, "it was artfully con tribed by augustus in then joiment of -- in the enjoyment of plenty they should lose the memory of freedom." it goes back to the tower of babel, what keeps the bricks together? materialism. that is what ancient, the tower of babel, the mortar that kept everyone together was material itch. that is what he was saying. that in the more stuff they gave they started to lose the memory of freedom. how many of us understand what freedom really means anymore? if we lose our stuff do we turn
2:11 am
on each other? i con tend at this point, yes. and we are being taught to turn on each other. it's them. we are taught this. you do not have to look at today. we will. look at the past. the same each time. in 133b.c. the they climb of the roman republic begins and they start to redistribute the land, seizing illegally occupied by the rich, the lands, illegally occupied by the rich and gave it to the poor and put caps on the acres one man could own. if it exceeded it was given to the poor. they to not have approval. they did not wait. they went around the senate. and did it anyway. what is happening now? redistribution of wolt -- of wealth through health care and
2:12 am
cap and trade. did they do health care the right way? cap and trade is meeting in mexico and the administration said don't worry, congress is stalled cap and trade, don't worry. we will get around. nancy employees said we will get it done. that is what they did in the decline of the roman republic. today congress is circumvented. i told you of the food safety bill, remember? here is audio after the vote of the bill, a democratic senator, not a republican, a democratic senator standing on the floor near an open mike and did not know the mike was open and listen to what he says about his own party and the way this food safety bill was ... rigged. watch. because it is all rigged. the whole conversation was rigged. the fact that we do not get a
2:13 am
discussion about what we will do, it is just rigged. rigged. rigged? this is a democrat. this is a democratic senator. saying your senate is rigged. we know it. there is confirmation. from a member of the democratic party. and why isn't that the lead story? your republic is being destroyed now, 123 of b.c. there was food ration on, and today, today's the food ration. what are we debate stg we -- debating? we have food rations. what is this? today, today, how about the
2:14 am
99ers? these are people who have two years of unemployment checks, two years. does it ever end? in 58 of b.c.claudius ran for the office of tribune "free food for the masses," and today 42 million are on food stamps. and "free" is the operative word. listen to what students call for in london and europe. (inaudible) education for all. free education. free education. free education. (inaudible)
2:15 am
it is a national disgrace we have millionaires who don't care about anyone, who don't care about society. i cannot take it. did you hear? it has to be free education and he is tired of being run if a country by millionaires that don't care so they will go to the senate of rome which is caesar and they will go to nancy pelosi or to president obama or whoever and take it. it is the same thing that happened in the roman republic, not the empire. 31, of b.c., the adopted son of caesar came to power and oc
2:16 am
octavian, he is this guy. and octavian is this guy. because he is the guy who established the political structure that was the basis of what became the roman empire. the roman imperial government. for the next four centuries major changes need to be made. the whole thing was falling apart because they dismantled it, and they had, bit by bit, dismantled everything. it was in trouble. people were crying out we have to have change, change, change, so he came in. but octavian was genius. he realized the roman people, they loved the republic. but it was no longer an option
2:17 am
unless they changed. so he had to go a different way. his solution instead of saying, guys, we have screwed it up, we have to reset here, instead, what he did was, he gave the people what they wanted and what he thought they needed. i don't know how many speeches he had to give but he got it all through and instead of abolishing the institutions that were cherished he continued them and the people still were represented and they elected their representative. the assembly still gathered. the senate oversaw the provinces and advised him. but it did not mean anything. as one said and i quote, "by maintaining the facade of the republic he camouflaged his absolute power."
2:18 am
we saw they are saying this is rigged in their own party, the senate, the senate is saying "this is rigged." we showed you that the fcc is going around the senate, they said, no, the court said no, but the fcc is pushing the neutrality anyway and octavian maintained the appearance of traditional republican government, republican as in "the republic," it was all still there. and he refused to be called caesar, the adopted son of caesar, he did not want to be a dictator but he disguised himself, and he took the title of "first citizen." i am just like you.
2:19 am
first citizen. the people of rome had gone from being citizens of a republic to subjects of an emperor and it happened without violence, without votes or without fanfare. didn't really know and they were actually happy about it. because they were bought off. where are we seeing this today? i will show you when we come back.ño
2:23 am
>> we are so backed up i have so much to share with you tonight on ancient rome and the or things and this is from a book identity road we are traveling," and i only have a copy of it. a producer is standing at a xerox to copy it because we cannot get an old copy and i will show you what is happening in ancient rome and what happened in the 1940's and where we are headed now. we have so much information this is the first third of this book. i will give you a preview of
2:24 am
chapter one, ancient history, modern lessons, if you can net get to the bookstore sign up for my free e-mail newsletter tomorrow and i will get you a section of the book with the newsletter at www.glennbeck.com and tomorrow a townhall meeting in 500 movie theaters i will be like with a group of people in pittsburgh and we will talk about this and what do you do now? what do you do? that's tomorrow night check for local movie theater and you that is playing that tomorrow night, live. the fall of the roman republic and into an. fire because this is where we are at. the empire begins. we are not looking at the decline and fall of the american empire because we are a public, the enemies of the republic right now are doing the same
2:25 am
thing i am doing. i am looking for the answers and solutions and they are, too, repeating history. but what they are trying to do right now is to convince you that communism and socialism is better than capitalism. they are doing everything they can to achieve their goal without you knowing it. and they are engaging in crafty word play. i want you to see this stuff. (inaudible) we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to eco capitalism where we are not fast tracking the destruction of the whole planet. is that enough? no. we want to go beyond systems of exploitation and oppression but that is a process.
2:26 am
>> capitalism can be changed into socialism. well, then it is not capitalism. ask any business person and they will tell you that china is the future. what is that? china has, i'm sorry, they have state capitalism. state capitalism. we will define capitalism and socialism. capitalism, the government protects your right-to-life and liberty so you can pursue your happiness. can you watch my house and kids and you cannot just pick me up off the streets i will live when the laws and you just protect this stuff. that is capitalism. we have been doing that for a long time. the government is not protecting our life and liberty anymore. because they are not arresting the bad guys. so we are not doing capitalism. but understand the government protects your right to do what you want to do.
2:27 am
socialism has private ownership but directed or partnered with the government. g.m. is a great example. they do not own it. we own it. they kind of own it. but more or less they direct it. that is happening with socialized medicine. health care, they will not own the companies. they will partner with them. that's socialism. communism is everything owned by the government and they take it all and give you a little bit of it. that is how it works. now these four, local government, that's the closest to you. this is state with a small "s," your region, and national, our country, and then there is global. our founders say that local government is the way to go. state government, it should be global the weakness, national, state, local. that's, this is the founders, this is number one.
2:28 am
but what we are doing, now, is the exact opposite. state when they say "state capitalism," china is a state capitalist society, they do not use state like this they use capital "s," which is state capitalism, capital "s," the biggest government there is. the state. so it's state capitalism. well, is it state capitalism in china? in china, well, yes, because it's national. so it is the state. is it capitalism? no. but it is also not communism. it's state socialism. let's not use the word state because one thing progressives love they love to change names. so, we know it is not capitalism. it is not communism.
2:29 am
it is socialism. state social im. but forget "state," it's national socialism. what is that? germany. they know. they cannot say it is national socialism. they know you would freak out if you knew history. so they call it state -- lie -- capitalism. when they say the future of state, remember, that's a capital "s," state capitalism. so whatever the biggest fish is. for the first time ever the biggest fish will be global so we are looking at global socialism. now, let me ask you this, what does gorge soros -- george soros
2:30 am
open society, incent -- isn't that what everyone wants? it is a nationless planet. so we are not talking about what they are creating over there, we are not talking about national socialism we he talking about state socialism, the globe because we're talking about a world without nationality. they will not tell you that now. george soros will. the head of bolivia's army came out and say and i quote, "we declare ourselves antiimperialists because there can exist no external power imposing itself, we declare ourselves anticapitalist because the system is destroying mother earth." that is another lie. it has nothing to do with capitalism.
2:31 am
here is words from italy, everything for the state, nothing outside of the state, nothing above the state. so in this segment, this is what i wanted you to get, when china says they are using "state capitalism," it is a lie because the definition of capitalism does not fit china. neither does communism, anymore, it fits socialism. state is just another word for national. national socialism is hitler and world war ii italy. in the road we are traveling, a book written, the guy was the guy would coined "new deal," phrase he talked about state capitalism and about the new system, and he called it system x that we were changing into
2:32 am
2:37 am
line because the ending is not written. we write it. we decide. can we pull out from the abyss? can we accomplish something that no other republic or empire has ever, ever done? can you reverse the course we are on? i will show you the history of rome as a republic. i showed you as the roman empire declines, they start land grabs and free food and food ration and they change the republic and leave all the senate in but it is a scam. so people can feel good. that is where we last it. that is what we are doing here. they are saying to us that state capitalism is where we are headed. it is not state capitalism but socialism nationally. and they cannot say national
2:38 am
socialism because people will freak out. now it is global, soros said the problems of the world go away when nationality goes away. everyone should be under one global flag. so let me read again from the pages of history. the people of rome went from citizens of a republic to subjects of an empire without violence, votes orphan fair. enemies to freedom are dangerous and they are around us. they do not surround us but they are around us. someone tore into the dangerous leaders at the e.u. watch. >> they are being told is it would be inappropriate for them
2:39 am
to have a general election, and the commission are said they had to agree to the budgets before they could be allowed to have a general election. just who the hell do you think you people are? you are very, very dangerous people, indeed, your obsession with creating this euro state means that you are happy to destroy democracy, you appear to be happy for millions and millions of people to be poor. untold millions must suffer so your euro dream can continue. >> he's right. you notice it all happened without votes orphan -- without votes or any fanfare. europe is telling ireland they cannot have an election. because it look like freedom does not noon it is. we are today there is no such thing as freedom without economic freedom. i say, bull crap.
2:40 am
i would rather be poor and free and have a chance, a chance to do something than rich and a slave. in the year 64 in a.d. the empier report said "tax and tax and tax," and the biggest tax hike in history is coming. the president himself said when it came to capital gains, in the debate, well, if it hurts the economy i would do it for fairness. make sure that no man owns anything. there is a federal land grab out west. do you know how much land the federal government has taken in the last two years.
2:41 am
and in 81a.d. they had to raise the wipe costs and today we burn our own crops, our own corps, for fuel, in madness. we just passed the food safety act which a democrat senate said "was rigged," on an mike he did not know was open. and a roman emperor said if your parents are on welfare, so do you, too, if your parents receive benefits so do you. the dream act, in rome people were very, very lazy. and they began to depend on the government to do everything for them. because there was no reason to do anything yourself. from decline of the roman empire
2:42 am
"the minds of men were reduced to the same level and the fire of genius was sting wished." what does that noon -- mean? in the tower of babel everyone was made into bricks rather than stones, and how many of us have kids in our class or in our kids in school where they are held back for the other kids you have to dumb down the whole class? we don't let anyone excel. there are no winners because you feel bad. the minds of men were reduced to the same level. consequence. the fire of genius was extinguished. what built this country? genius. edison. franklin. the assembly line.
2:43 am
genius. because they could do it. you cannot because of all of the regulations they say bill gate could not have started apple today? not apple, microsoft. what are we doing? what are we doing? we are extinguishing genius. and that's the only thing that will save us. the independent spirit and the joopious, those that explored the mountains and the west and those that said, the hell i can't do that. that is my land. my land. we have always been the most charitable people, not because everyone told us to or because they took it from us. but because it was the right thing to do.
2:44 am
2:48 am
>> glenn: trying to find an old copy of stuart chase, of the book called "the road we are traveling." i have a photocopy of the book. the road we're traveling, 1914, 1942. 1914, progressivism, woodrow wilson. this is what he wrote. this is the guy who, you know, did the whole new deal thing. i think the guy who coined the term "the new deal." he said something is happening to capitalism. he wrote this in the 1940s that something is happening to capitalism. he said it's either turning to fascism, communism, or state capitalism, which is what they're saying we are now. headed that way. that's what china is. they say that is the new world model. what is state capitalism? he outlined a dozen things he observed that were happening that would end in the result of replacing the free enterprise system. he said it would be replaced by something he just called it "x." he didn't know what they
2:49 am
would end up calling it. but he said there were 12 things that had to happen. i just want to go over the 12 things here. here they are. ready? first one is need a strong centralized government. think we have that? executive arm growing at the expense of the legislative and judicial arms. remember the s.e.c. and what they announced today. underwriting of the government through armament or public work, stimulus project. underwriting of social security. old age pension and other pensions. unemployment insurance. 99 weekers. the underwriting of food, housing and medical care. i guarantee you if education is a right, if healthcare is right, how can jobs not be a right? how can housing not be a right? it's coming.
2:50 am
the control of foreign trade by the government. the control of natural resources. talk to the people in alaska or colorado on that. or west virginia. the control of energy sources. hydroelectric power. petroleum, natural gas. control of transportation. there's more. wait until i get to the end. where does it lead? next.ñ÷
2:54 am
>> glenn: stuart chase wrote "the road we are traveling" in 1940s. he outlined what was coming in america. he was a fan with it. he didn't have a problem with this. listen to what he said was coming in america before we moved from a republic to what he said was "x," i believe, global empire. he said we'll finance all these things and abandon the gold standard and start deficit spending techniques. we would control our natural resources, our energy, our transportation. then we would control agricultural production. i contend to you that is exactly what this food safety bill is. control of labor organizations. yeah, or do they control us? the enlistment of young men and women put in youth corps, devoted to health, discipline and community service. heavy taxation with a special
2:55 am
emphasis on estates and income of the rich. he said it wouldn't a lot of takeover of properties and industry in the socialistic sense. the formula is control without ownership. interesting to recall the same formula was used in the management of great corporations in depriving stockholders of power. then the last one was the state control of communication and propaganda. need i remind you that today, the s.e.c. outlined net neutrality so they can control and protect you on the internet. i told you at the beginning, blue pill or red pill? the red one -- i think the blue ones makes you fall asleep and the red one -- i'm not sure. you want to wake up or do you want to go to sleep? sleeping probably is a lot easier at this point.
2:56 am
but seeing things for what they are is more important for the children and in the long run, the only way we cannot repeat the mistakes of the roman republic. then become some sort of empire, some sort of global nation national, socialistic empire. because that's where we're headed gang. it happens time and time again.
