the ground looking at the damage. it is extensive. multiple homes. dozens of homes destroyed. because it happened after the sunset everyone is now if shelters. there is in power in the town. people have not been able to see the damage to their homes. there is a confirmed fatality, a woman in the temporarily that was blown crass the road into another property and she did not make it. there are multiple injuries. as the sun comes up and we get a satellite truck here you can see the images, the tornado that went through, and they will go in and assess, but it certainly was a major tornado, any of at left three tornado, probably

demolished and the grocery store, destroyed. and the car wash, destroyed. the insurance agency, destroyed. and so many homes looking exactly like what you see behind me here. completely gone. it is dark, still, so when the sun comes up we can get a better idea of what the damage. i have been touring the town with spot lights and the damage is extensive. but the first tornado went through at sunset and everyone was pulled into shelters so people have not been interest -- into the neighborhoods. power lynns are down and limbs and trees everywhere and people have not seen the damage. and now i will talk about the stock stock storms, yesterday alone 98 reports of tornadoes and 100 tornadoes in one day. and over 20 the day before that. across oklahoma and arkansas. today, we have a threat. if you look at the maps

gentleman two tornado watches in effect for florida panhandle and the state of georgia and western areas of south carolina. that is in effect until 10:00 a.m. and the northern watch box physical 1:00 o'clock p.m. eastern time. throughtout the day the severe threat will move toward the east so we have a moderate risk for severe weather the same risk we had yesterday and the day before but now it is across the carolinas and parts of virginia and a slight risk up to philadelphia. so the populated areas under a threat and that includes washington, dc, the capitol. so a rough day in store for us. guys, as the sun comes up we will she so many more pictures of the damage here. but dozens of homes completely destroyed and people's lives upset for a long time.

but senator harry reid is not confident with our role there. >> are you confident it will work in the end in afghanistan? it looks like a mess. >> i am in the confident it will work. i am happy to see general petraeus a couple of weeks ago he thought it was going well and i have great respect for him. i hope it is well but the american people have, rightfully so, a short attention span. we cannot continue to keep dumping this money. >> we have former director of strategy for the white house homeland security council and former intelligence officer for the office of the secretary of defense. nice to see you. so, throw more money at this problem? is that the answer? >> that is not the answer. we see here our strategy needs to evolve. clearly the right thing to do 10 years ago but that does not mean it is right today. to stay. our objectives have changed. after 9/11 we felt like we had

to take away the base of operations for al qaeda. that mission has changed dramatically and i have friends in the military and the c.i.a. and they say we could be there 100 years and we cannot build the democracy and institution and civil society we thing we can. we are looking to spend more money with less effectiveness. >>clayton: and you have people who argue if we leave it opens up a vacuum. we saw parts of afghanistan in the northern border region where the military has withdrawn, and now you are seeing al qaeda come back over the border again and catches are set back up. so when we leave, we see al qaeda and the taliban coming back into power, sending drone strikes to hit them but are we going to do this for 20 or 30 years? >>guest: that is the question. what is the long-term strategy? we keep a physical presence at a high cost in terms of people and

resources and money and the american public is not paying attention to that. in a follow you have very few people defending our interest. if people are not engaged that is a danger. and we have yemen, somalia, and we have yemen, somalia, can operate. so the concept we have to be there physically, and we are pulling back, and going to the >>clayton: the other issue is the taliban and, also, the corrupt government who barely has control of their own capital. we are trying to make partnership in the government and this government is corrupt. there is in national support for any democracy going forward. how do we work with a corrupt government? >>guest: that is the point. we have a tribal system. we are trying to "modernize" it

but this is a huge leap forward in a short time. there is a lot of discussion. i don't think that is possible. we have to let afghanistan society evolve at their own pace. >>clayton: do we have to get out? >> get the troops out because the day-to-day presence is causing problems. we have to keep special forces there with iran on one side and pakistan on the other so there is an important role but we need a targeted activity and small footprint. the troop presence is large. and our allies are pulling out. the u.s. is talking about staying in for longer but the allies are pulling out. >> approval ratings for the war at home not favorable. s coming up, police looking for a teenage girl last seen at high school and she is trying to escape an arranged marriage and

one storm system, a three-day event for us and so far, 120 reports of tornados in two days and we still have today to get through he so that number is going to climb by the time we get to tomorrow. here in leakpsville, the large tornado moved through 7:45 last night and daylight is now up and the people are getting out and starting to assess some of the damage and all kinds of trees down and buildings completely destroyed and there's one fatality in this town, a woman in a trailer that was right on the other side of this tree. and the entire trailer was picked up and moved over to coin kind of a neighboring yard and obliterated and they found the woman there last evening and she did not make it through. unfortunately, there's that situation. and six injuries at this point and they're not completely sure about this extent of some

congresswoman diane black. thank you for joining us on "fox & friends." >> good morning, clayton, so good to be with you on "fox & friends." >> clayton: the president, is he leading or punting when it comes to leading on the budget issue? >> clayton, when i was complaining and trying to understand the severe problems that we had at the national level, i realized that there needed to be some leadership and i was excited to hear the president's state of the state address thinking he was going to have policy issued included in that and we didn't hear anything and shortly after that we got the president's budget and once again, he did not put the recommendations on the fiscal commission in there and i don't believe that he's leading. therefore, our budget does do just that, it leads. >> clayton: you know, some economists disagree with that position, and in fact, one, a liberal commit paul krugman this week wrote a scathing piece about the ryan budget and let me put this up here and get your sense of this.

he says the president is actually leading on this because the numbers were far more credible than anything in the ryan budget. what do you say to that? >> well, i say that you check the source and we have sources that come from nonpartisan places, like the cbo, and i think we can trust those sources because they are nonpartisan. >> well, check the source, you're right on that. is there any chance though that once we saw this pass of course on friday, there is he' he no chance for this to actually pass the senate and if it does ever pass the senate, the president won't sign it. so, where does that leave us as americans? aren't we all frustrated and we can't come together and find some common ground? >> well, i think we continue to lead. i think we continue to say what really is happening, we tell the american people the truth and that's one of the problems that i have here is that i know that there was a slur thrown at representative ryan him being america's accountant. we need an accountant and

thank goodness we have somebody that's there in congress that can help us and to lead us in the right direction to get this country back on path. so-- >> where do we find. before we let you go, congresswoman, where do we find common ground and get it passed? the way i see it right now and the way that many experts see it, is that this thing is going to be a deadlock and never going to get the budget passed. >> here what i can point you to, the discussion about the continuing resolution, we began on the ground with the president saying he was not going to move a single foot forward and he was going to freeze his budget where it was, we continue to negotiate, so we didn't get everything we wanted, but we moved the president off of his mark. and i intend on continuing with my colleagues to stay on this path of prosperity and to move our country forward and get us out of the fiscal crisis. >> clayton: well, it's refreshing to hear what we need to cut rather than what to spend.

process. how did that help? >> it's helped me to get my feelings out, you know, for the most part and that was the most important thing was, had this catharsis through the written word and something i had a he never done before and helped that bring that to the forefront and for me he to address those feelings rather than to bury them in the recesses of my mind. >> share with us the emotional journey you went through in the process from the beginning to that catharsis you talked about. take us through the emotional journey you had. >> yeah, so my wife was pregnant with our first child and her pregnancy was not the easiest thing, it was actually quite rough on her and so, she had several weeks of bed rest at home and then admitted to the hospital, because the doctors wanted her to continue her bed rest because my daughter was, she had some issues inside the womb and that included low amniotic fluid and umbilical cord

around her neck and my wife was monitored to be sure the baby would be okay. and seven weeks early they did an emergency c-section to make sure she would be safe and sound into the world. we had no rool concerns other than our daughter's health and we followed the directions while the doctors and nurses and the hospital staff and the next day when it was time for my wife to get up out of bed to go and hold her daughter for the first time she stood up and walked around the room a little bit before she ultimately collapsed and died because of the pulmonary embolism and it's not something that we were aware of, obviously, not something that could have been even prevented at that moment. in talking to the coroner they mentioned as soon as she stood up that basically that blood clot was on the way to her lungs and no chance. in that instant, i watched my wife die and at the same time i knew that i had a newborn baby who was again, seven weeks early and had some

potential for some pretty serious complications for her in the future life and i knew at that moment that i, i really had to go to my daughter and i had to make sure that she was my priority in my life and that's how things ended up happening for me. i really wanted to make sure that my focus was there on her at all times. >> and writing this blog and book "two kisses for mady" helped you and helped an awful lot of people. >> yeah, an unintended consequence of what i was doing. the blog ultimately started as something i wanted for my friends and family and see that i was taking care of madeline and she was getting the best kind of care that she possibly could from me. even in the worst circumstances and so, as the blog, you know, got more widely read and as these things happen on the internet it became more viral and people started reading it and it was almost unimaginable to me that people would want to read about my life and especially the circumstances i found myself in.

as things went along people were reading the blog and finding, you know, some common ground in it, and other widows and widowers finding the commonalty in our circumstances and people who had never been through such a thing, find themselves passing away as liz did and wondering how their husbands would take this role on and how the situation would be affected in their life. so, it blew me away i had so many people reading, but it's been a real interesting experience for me. >> and i know for young maddy who unfortunately is sick this morning, it helped to keep her mom alive and honor her memory. throughout the years. she will at some point read this and learn about her. and it's an incredible story and you're a courageous man and i put the information on my website, matt, thank you for being with us. >> thank you. >> dave: again the book "two kisses for maddy" we hope

tennessee. not just, you know, i thought maybe it was the newspaper articles, but we found the tennessee bureau of investigation that says she was abducted, dragged from her home and no, she wasn't dragged she walked willingly and today we find out that a guy who may have been her boyfriend and it's on her back. and what we know for sure, there was blood outside the home and tennessee bureau of investigation confirmed that and they found her lunch box about eight miles away, and they have found duct tape with reportedly blond hair on it and found a camouflage outfit in the car. so irrespective of of all of the conflicting reports, we know she's missing. the brother and the boyfriend have been excluded. they say with certainty, as persons of interest. so, you know, all he would he know right now is this beautiful young woman who was on her way to school, learning to be a licensed practical nurse, was taken from her home. they say under some kind of
