[applause] and this is a great audience. and in some parts of the country, gas prices have risen to an all-time high. five bucks a gallon for a bit of gasoline and the president said there is no short-term solution. i will speak to a republican and democratic who disagree. they will you join us to talk about real solutions . who won the birth certificate battle between the president

news channel and loved every minute of it. the speculation is ram pant as to whether i run again and it would mean giving up the show and daily radio commentary on 600 radio station and campaigning in the country for good conservative candidates who are running for office. it is not an easy decision and i would not make it impulsive i would make it prayerfully. the whole process starts ridiculously early and obscenely expensively and disastously focused on the circus side show of personal issues that don't matter as to whether people have jobs and country gets out of choking debt and we have a secure borer and military superiority. almost daul i i read it on the

internet that i will run or definitely not run. i am not sure if the people who write this stuff do it out of ignorance or hopes of getting noticed. let me be definite and you don't have to get an unnamed source. i have not made a decision and i don't plan to until this summer and anyone who said something else can't be trusted on other things because they lack credibility on this story. i understand if i take steps of candidacy of supporting a run and i have to ceasify contract with fox. the only pressure with fox is put together a good show that a lot of people want to watch. when i make a decision they will know before the bloger and i will probably make the announcement on fox . here's something i ought to know. when someone claims to be an insider they probably aren't. high level source, they means they are not high.

unaccounted for. i personally in two tornados, one when i was 11 years old and one in 1999 that hit and almost destroyed the grounds of the arkansas mansion and did destroy neighborhoods. i have dealt with the aftermath of tornados len years as governor. it is a force of nature that is impossible to describe, but the experience of it leaves a permanent mark on one's soul. our prayers go out to hundreds of thousands across our homeland that are deal death and injuris and loss of property and disorientation that comes from losing everything that anchors one's life to who they are. family photos and heir looms passed down for generations and such things as old report card and kid's toys. in an all of those things are gone. houses are rebuild but the lives can't .

neither can one replace the personal pieces of life that no longer exist. in a moment, we are going to talk about why so many funnel clouds developed and how they get so. according to the national weather service. one of the tornados was an ef storm with peak winds of bey upon miles per hour . we did research and found tornado foodfootage . this was shot with a mounted camera on top of a train moving through illinois . watch what happens when the tornado comes through. an empty box car can weigh 30 tons when it is empty and over 100 tons when it is full. that tornado blue them over like they didn't weigh anything . think about it . watch this tanker coming into the back of the train as that

camera mounted on the train just gives them an extraordinary view of the horrors and powers of the tornado. we want to talk about a power and twisters and storm chasers. warren, it is good to have you with us. you were an original storm chaser. a storm chaser is not just a hobby and a foot cam, chasing the tornados in dangerous ways, but studying them from their origin and impact and let's begin. how does a tornado get start what was the reason we see tornados and why so many of them all of the sudden. >> i would like to say my prayers and thoughts go out to fam faps in alabama. seeing many of these events. i know what goes on there and my thoughts are with you. what creates a tornado. there is three or four things that you have to have.

usually there are nothing but lightning strike rain or hail. but when you have a day like you had on the 27th, you had several elements in the right place at the right time. cold air from the north coming down to meet warmer gulf moisture in the southeast . you had a couple of fronts and boundaries moving in the area and most importantly what changed the whole story was the jet stream and the wind shear. the wind increased with highs and changed directions and if you think of a solid object. it turns that. if you have a cube in the sky and you can imagine that is a storm, it begins to spin the storm and the lower level down in the ground gets more complicated and all of these elements came together the right time of day. and it will end up with violent tornados. >> when we look at amazing

footage from tuscaloosa and over in smithville, mississippi. ef 4 and 5, it is stun thag we didn't see thousands of deaths rather than hundreds and hundreds are way too many. but one of the things that happened. doppler weather radar and warning system gave people an opportunity to run for cover. how much has that really made an impact in the number of lives that we saw saved in the light of the spectacular damage. >> they are saving thousands of lives and hard to go and look back and see how it did. doppler radar and people of the weather service and storm spotters . the live tv coverage that saved thens of lives and education that people had there undoubtly saved thousands of lives. they had problems in communication because of the thunderstorms and some of those systems may have been out and that will be

discovered as they check out the scene. it is just mind boggling to have this kind of destruction and fortunately the death count is low . if you didn't know, you would think it is higher. >> what do people do when tornados come? a kansas tornado, he captured the footage and people are climbing under an overpass and looking for cover. we'll see the tornado literally coming at them. they got out of their cars and you can see the debris. extraordinary impact and force and hear the horror in their voices as they see a twister coming their way. was this smart to do to go in the crease of the overpass? >> no, it is not. that is something you don't want to do. you don't want to crawl under the underpasses. they discovered in 1999 in

with the birth certificate. 92 percent of that on ms nbc and 30 percent on cnn. >> msnbc should know that donald trump is boosting the ratings and they are going to let it go. we have a piece of video and this is the president at a forum and he has something to say about energy consumption . >> if you are complaining about the price of gas and getting 8 miles a gallon, you know, [laughing], you may have a big family but it is not that big. >> the real problem is we are addicted to oil and we need other alternatives. it sounds flip but consumption starting at home makes a difference. but not everyone can afford a hibyd. why need to focus on price gouging . that's where we need to start. >> but we'll talk about this with a congressman . why don't we use our energy resources, bill. we are the most energy rich country in the world and we will notine tap our resources and explore them. >> the president could have said let's all step up do what we can to conserve . when we can, get a vehicle that gets better mileage. but the president is saying take away the subsidies to the oil company and put them in research for electric cars and move forward. >> we have to innovate and

hybrid vehicles is one way to do it and consumption is to be aware of. we are addicted to foreign oil. this is a natural security issue. >> it is hard to be innovative when the government wants to tax the productivity that comes from the invasion. we need to open up the market place than shut it down. >> we are going to have to level the playing field. oil companies are getting oil subsidies that are excessive. national products - on profits are at a record high. >> the oil companies are u.s. base coming off of the gulf in texas and new mexico, america is getting wealth. it is not a ridiculous level of wealth. total profits are not that high. >> unfortunately what happens, with what they are paying for tariffs, they are deducting

it has grown and that means infrastructure needs that you have to deal with and done it without a debt. >> we were a bedroom community next to toronto. everybody went to work outside of us and came home at night to sleep. we reversed that. we have more people coming to work. why decided that growth must pay its way. if you have growth, residential commercial or industrial, they have to contribute toward the capitol costs and provide service and expansion of the service and et cetera . we charge a high levee for square footage levee for industrial and commercial so that we have the money to expand the infrastructure. >> most models would say you have to give away to companis and individuals to attract them. you say you asked them to pay their own way.

>> we don't give them anything. >> but you grew. >> yeah. >> you triple would the size of the city and surplus and not debt and how much did you raise taxes in the 33 years. >> for 10 years we didn't raise taxes and ending up with 18 to 20 i think one highest was 22 million . what we did we put that away in reserves. we didn't lowir the taxes. all i promised my people and my council, joins me that, to give value for tax dollars. i never promised to reduce taxes because the cost of the city increases just like the cost of running a house. >> hazel, most people would have retired 35 years ago. you are 90 and still the mayor and you have no intention of retiring. what is the secret of longivity but the complete

command of the chief executive of the city. >> you have to have a council that works wu. we believe as a council you run the city close to a business that you can. i was in the business world for 30 years before i got into politics . i think there is many way to run the city. you define efficienciys and you don't make a profit, but you got to make sure the tax bill that you send out is giving the people value for the tax dollar that you collect. >> you were a child of the depression and grew up and born in 19and you remember what happened. how much impact did that happen on you. >> i think it impacted me a lot. i had very few things as a kid and toys, and today, kids don't know which toy to play with. i wore second-hand clothes and my dad and mother couldn't afford to put me through university . so i have only been in high

school education. i got a university graduate free from the toronto university. [laughing] [applause] >> that is pretty good hazel. you have 76 percent of the vote and you were not happy with that and you thought it should have been more. >> last three elections, i don't raise any money and i don't put up signs and i don't issue any literature . so 76 percent voted. here i am judge me on what i accomplished with my council. >> you had 16 opponents in the race? >> yes. >> and you ended wup 76 percent of the vote. hazel, forget everybody else's politics, you are the gold standard of political capacity and more importantly a good governor. i have something for you. i know you still play hockey which is amazing that you get out on the skates and go on to the ice. we wanted you to leave new

york with a new york rangers which you can't wear in public in canada. hey, if anybody could get away with it. i am convinced you could do any darn thing you want to. >> we have a local hockey called st. knight majors that is going to win the memorial cup that is coming this august. you know, success that i have had is with mature people all of the time and looking after the administration yes, but you have to have a good council working with you and good staff . it is a team approach and that's why the rangers won. >> it is why you continue to win, because a good council and a good city has to have a good leader and you have begin them one. >> well >> >> hazel mccowan good to meet you. >> i think why ought to import

over five bucks a gallon. over the past week president obama said there is no quick solution for rising gas prices and urging congress to eliminate tax breaks for oil company. i spoke to democraticic congressman dan boren and republican congressman robert doyle and they're critical of the president's energy policy . >> talking about high gas pleen prices that is out of the sight and affecting merrence . congressman doyle you said four specific things we need to do as americans to bring the gas prices down for the people. what are they? >> governor, thank you for the opportunity and we have a plan to try to bring things down. a green light to american innovator and extending tax credits for renewable energy that are set to expire in 2012 and 13. we need to be talking about

ending the boutique fuel monopolis and have a singlular fuel that is used so that one particular area is not harder hit if they start to run short. >> the other thing to do explore natural gas here in the united states. we have trillions of cubic feet that are untapped and we need to get after and start to explore and finally talk about putting the gulf back to work and talk about getting the drilling operations back up and going so we can rely more on the united states as opposed to foreign nations . >> before i leave that. you talk about the boutique aspect of fuel blends. in this country, there are a significant number of localized blens and it adds to the costs. i want to make sure our view ares understand that that is the difference between united states and mexico. people are driving south of the border to get gasoline because it is less expensive

because of the blend. tell me why this is it important and who puts the rule in place and authority to get rid of it? >> there are 17 different fuel blends at least that . there are 17 different monopolies that are run in the government. for instance we have the shy men blend and for some reason a refinery goes down our fuel prices would sky rocket. it is right over here. fuel prices are at 4.40 a gallon. in essence create one fuel blend, we'll share different reserves from the country and hopefully drop those costs down and it say common sense solution. >> congressman boren. president obama is completely uninformed about the oil and gasistry. for every ceo of a major company there are thousands of

blue collar jobs affected by his administration's energy policy. if the president doesn't want to be a leader, his silence would be for people trying to reach conclusion. that is a bold statement and exceptionally bold that a democrat made it. what led you to say something so clear. >> i am frustrated and the president gives a speech about oil companies making large profits and he doesn't realize most of the production in the united states does not come from the major companies, it is the small independent companies, some in arkansas and oklahoma and texas and louisiana. we have got a lot of production and 90 some odd percent of the new wells that are drilled in the united states are by small independent firms and he's taking away the subsidies. let me tell you what, the big major oil companies can't take

and it is against the law to use depletion. the mom and pop shops, are using incentives to wean ourselves off oil. >> has the white house responded to what you have said and what have they said to you. or told you to be quiet. >> they are silent. i think they realize they are on the wrong side of this. we are the saudi arabia of natural gas. we have got more natural gas than we have had over generation. we have over 100 energy supply. it is the silver bullet. but if we let the epa people like the administrator jackson have their way, we'll lose more jobs and places like pennsylvania. a swing state like pennsylvania where the only economic right now is the oil and gas companies handing out those lease bonuses, those

>> there was a significant story out of new mexico and texas. the fish and wild life service is thinking about shutting down all exploration because fearful of the disturbing the habitat of a lizard. i am not against lizards. but we are talking about destruction of yobs and moving up the price of energy. what is it that you can do as a congressman and rest of america be concerned about when we have agencies that are trying to shut down the processes to get energy out of the ground? >> we need to do is talk about

everything lined up and the epa said no, you are 70 miles from a village of 245 people and so you can't put this here and now they are going to take the jobs and four billion invest walk away. this is insane! >> it is ridiculous and the fact that we are competing in a world market. look at the chinese. they are making investments and building refineries. we haven't built a refinery in the united states since the 19cents and we have to compete in the world market. we can't do that if we have got policies coming out of this administration that you know, will do everything in their power to stop development. whether it is the investment by shell or whether it is other places to drill. you know, we have a lot of public land in the united states that is not open . they kind of talk a good game,

but when it comes down to it, they don't want us to produce fossil fuels. the bad part about it is, americans are going to pay more in the pump because of the policies. not because of the oil and gas companies, but because of the policies they put in place. >> congressman, talk about the specifics of the legislation that you want to see congress pass. what would you do and what kind much reaction do you get not only from the republican party but obviously congressman boren from oklahoma gets it, how many other supporters from the democratic party are you seeing for energy policies? >> those on the gulf coast understand. they have been exposed to it for a long period of time. some of the legislation coming out of the house next week, we get back in session is a bill coming from doc hastings who is the chairman of the natural resource committee talking about the gulf being put back

to work. the moratorium in theory is in place because they haven't got the permits to drill . that's what we want to do. open it up and put a time line on it and in essence, the secretary of the interior can indeed get them back to work and they are not delaying and slow walking them forward. that has to happen, we literally have empty rig gulf that should be producing oil for the united states. >> i do support chairman's legislation and i will be voting for it when it come to the floor. >> congressmen. i want to thank you today and giving us common sense and practical solution and there is a lot of americans who are squeezing the handle on the gas pump and looking at incredible prices that are inching up to five dollars and that means no vacation or see gand maand cost them more to get to work every day. thank you for look at this
