5:00 am
tomorrow. you can tweet me at bret underscore baier. thanks for inviting me into your home tonight. that's it from this "special report" from iowa. fair, balanced, and unafraid. same time tomorrow night. >> laura: "the o'reilly factor" is on. tonight: good to be back from pennsylvania. >> i just came from allen town middle works, where i had a cons to visit with workers there. >> the allen town metal works is set to close its doors. >> as the economy continues to limp along, presidential hopeful mitt romney's new campaign ad puts the blame squarely on president obama as poll numbers continue to sink for the president. is the economy dooming the obama presidency? former bush advisor dana perino and democratic strategist joe trippi will analyze. there is mayhem on the streets of mexico, courtesy of the united states government.
5:01 am
a gun running sting gone bad dumps murder russ weapons over the border. and now a whistle blower comes forward to tell us who knew what in the justice department. he had said it was an accident that snow bald out of control. >> the defense wraps up at the casey anthony murder trial with explosive testimony. linking casey's father to little caylee's death. will this last ditch effort undermine the prosecution's case? judge janine jeanine pirro repom orlando. >> laura: caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone, the factor begins right now there. captions by closed captioning services >> laura: hi, everyone, i'm laura ingraham in for bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us. a show down in the keystone state. that's the top story tonight. both president obama and
5:02 am
republican frontrunner mitt romney are in pennsylvania today raising money for their presidential campaigns. and the former massachusetts governor released this ad attacking the president's job creation record in pennsylvania. >> good to be back in pennsylvania. >> i just came from allen town metal works where i had a chance to visit with workers there. >> the allen town metal works is set to close its doors on friday. was hailed as a symbol of hope by president barack obama last year when he promoted his jobs plan. >> laura: very dramatic. joining us from new york joe trippi howard dean's former campaign manager and dana perino
5:03 am
former bush press secretary and both are fox news contributors. great to see both of you. i'm watching this ad and i think very hot. that's the best i have seen of mitt romney in many, many, many months, maybe years, dana. he wasn't in the ad. very interesting. >> target of opportunity today. so i was told it was a coincidence that president obama and mitt romney end up in pennsylvania at the same time. but the romney people are very a jury trial. they are agile and they are smart and took advantage of the opportunity. the fact that the president talked about allen town and then allen town is actually closing manufacturing jobs. the ad is brilliant. he has consistently got very good ads that are provocative and well put together. i think the thing i think about romney is he is running against obama. everybody else is fighting it out and he is just like i'm the frontrunner, i'm going to act like it. >> laura: he is acting like it. joe, lime looking at all these polls that a republican fairs very well against obama in these polls.
5:04 am
individual candidates not as well. in my theory what romney is doing, he is running as a generic republican. that's a winning formula, perhaps for him. >> right. and taking on obama, this ad is very effective in making a case, particularly one that primary voters will respond to right now. the problem is there is sort of this leaping ahead of time here where it's, you know, sort of setting yourself as the de facto nominee, which i do think is dangerous. because sooner or later, you can't ignore the rest of the field. i mean, you have got to get michele bachmann can come up and shock you. and that's part, this is a very smart thing to have done. i do think there is a danger in pursuing that strategy to the point of making yourself the front uner that could be upended. >> laura: the fact is, dana, the president yesterday in his press conference continued the divert attention away from a failed economic record. went against the only thing he can do went on the attack against the republicans,
5:05 am
republican field capitol hill, no leadership, you are not leading. you should stay in town. really on the offensive. so, romney is kind of smart, right? because he brings it back to what most people care about, jobs. stealing that old margaret thatcher ad from the 1980s, labor isn't working, obama isn't working. goes right back to the core issue that's really got our economy. >> i think the only way to describe yesterday's press conference is odd. odd in its timing it's tone. >> laura: look at people and tell them they are not leaders -- how do you work. >> how dare you take vacation when he announces he is going to martha's vineyards for two weeks people that don't own corporate jets. these are not people pitching a tent in backyard. >> laura: have you ever seen the martha's vineyard airport for the summer? it's jet gridlock likes a pen in the vineyard. >> strange thing because it was such small ball and then what you see romney doing. i actually think, joe, be interested to get your take on,
5:06 am
this too. by not putting romney out there, he actually is appealing just to republicans and not to the primary base but to a wide swath of independents who have the anxiety about the economy that they're like, yeah, wait, this isn't working. >> laura: this corporate jet thing, even the "the washington post" today, glen kessler's piece saying this was very odd. i mean, first of all, this was an industry that creates a lot of jobs. very small lisa to the public. not like people are in corporate jets and there to drink champagne and do nothing else. especially when his wife comes back from africa using a government plane, do a nice trip. but it cost about $800,000 to the taxpayers. that's a lot of money, too. >> there was also a thing they did early on where they -- extending tax credits or something for these kind. >> laura: depreciation. they can depreciate for five years instead of seven, whoopi do. >> both sides -- think make dumb posturing moves for political purposes. i think it was one of them and
5:07 am
people are sick of all of it. because you can find money to bail out wall street but not medicare. one whack and the other one is want to end medicare to give tax breaks to the rich. both parties play that game. >> laura: joe, look, the country is bleeding right now out of work. >> i agree. >> laura: it is so bad. this guy gets up there yesterday. again, with all due respect. he gets up there and mentioned corporate jet like the super duper evil rich people the ones on corporate jet six times when this amounts to a paltry over years amounts to $3 billion. this is embarrassing. it is a worst time of demagoguery. it accept bare wassing for the president of the united states to have done that. >> but this is all -- what i'm saying it's all posturing for. >> laura: where is the leadership? >> that's fair, he is asking where is the leadership? i will will ask it right back where is the leadership? >> both sides are posturing for
5:08 am
the compromise. >> laura: well, i agree. i will actually tell you who wasn't posturing is the person who was also attacked by this administration. paul ryan. he sat in the front row to listen to the president's speech and the president addressed, you know, the budget, entitlements, supposedly entitlement reform. instead he got a big slap in the face. paul ryan was not sitting back on his heels waiting for someone tolls lead. guess what else he got from the white house for doing that big slap in the face and disrespected as he sat and watched the president. that's how they deal with people. >> another example today, laura. senator mcconnell took president obama up on his challenge and said please come over and they said it's not a conversation worth having? >> laura: two fundraisers today, dana. the business of campaigning seems to trump the business. >> they better look out because the ads that others are putting forward are a lot better than the messaging coming out of the entire administration. shep. >> laura: meanwhile joe trippi. people in the republican field scoring pretty big numbers who haven't even announced they are
5:09 am
going to be in the race. like governor perry of texas and even giuliani gets some numbers. what gives there? i think romney is doing a lot of things right but i think there are other folks that could get into this thing and sort of try to set yourself up as the nominee. look, i worked for fritz mondale. i know i'm aging myself here. i worked for mondale in '84. we were the nominee. the world was looking for who is the other person. unless they figured that out, we had a really rough time holding on to the nomination. i think romney risks doing that if he continues this strategy -- overplays this strategy that he is doing. >> laura: is he running as the generic republican who beats obama. >> joe has a good point if you set yourself up as a frontrunner, republicans go through the primary they usually nominate the person who was the frontrunner at the beginning. >> laura: big question mark. joe, dana, great to see both of you. have a great independence day. while president obama's poll numbers continue to plunge, what
5:10 am
5:12 am
blawr lawyer in the campaign 2012 sessionment tonight, latest poll numbers are not good news for the president. he now finds himself with the lowest approval ratings of the year. republican side while former massachusetts governor mitt romney continues to lead the pack. texas governor rick perry has catapulted into second place. and he hasn't even announced whether he is going to run or not. here now to help us sort it all out all numbers is dr. larry sabato the director of the university of virginia's center for politics. he joins us from my old haunt charlesville, virginia. former carter pollster and democratic strategist patrick caddell. okay, gentlemen, this is very
5:13 am
confusing to me. because i see some of these polls showing that the president is able to beat individual republican candidates. yet, these approval ratings on how is he handling the economy, health care, and overall job performance, i mean, these are pretty low. i can't believe -- as high as they are but they are pretty low. professor sabato, tell us, how can thissen and what does this mean ultimately for the president? >> well, historically, you look to presidential job approval. that is the most significant number. it's not the early trial heats because naturally, most of the republican candidates are not that well known. at least the ones i think most likely to win the nomination. so, right now the president is at 46% job approval. we know from history that unless there is some kind of wacky three way race involving an independent tea party candidate, 46%, if that's where it is on election day 2012 is not enough to reelect an incumbent president. an incumbent president has to be
5:14 am
and about 50 or above to be rio elected and pat caddell knows this well. >> laura: pat, let's go to you on this. do you agree with what larry just said? does this number spell trouble for obama or does it depend. >> it doesn't spell trouble but on the other hand he has managed to hold it up at a level hirer than you height have expected given his levels on the economy where the country is going and the economic conditions in general which are with economic attitudes, consumer confidence just nose diving which is what they're doing. i would have thought he might get lower. the point is it's that he would just before the bin laden affair he barely -- he was heading down to break 40%. if he breaks under 40, there is a certain dynamic that larry can tell you. you get in the 30's. you get in the territory that my old boss jimmy carter or the george h.w. bush was in. you have got trouble it tends to
5:15 am
feed on itself. he has very strong support from democrats. very partisan society. he has extraordinary ratings particularly from african-americans and until recently from hispanics. these are not good numbers for the white house. they are reacting with what i normally look at is confusion and chaos. i know what's going on there. one thing one day and another thing the next. >> laura: yeah. they're throwing everything at it tried the stimulus, health care. they got bin laden, all of that that was all in their favor. but now, larry, you are looking at this field. the right track wrong track poll which is also very significant also devastating for this president. 37% say they approve of his handling of the economy. and, yet, yesterday at this press conference, it was pointing fingers at the republicans. you are failing to lead. you have got to get going. you have got to get the job done. you are the one spending all this money. it was kind of like when i watch parallel universe, okay, they're just the ones spending the money? didn't your health care bill cost upwards of a trillion
5:16 am
dollars? it didn't pass the straight face test. >> you know, laura, the blame game will work while you are negotiating with congress. of course, is he beating up on congress because while obama is at 46%, congress is at 18%. it's always low. and it's easy for anybody to beat up on congress. i will tell you, again, going back to that right track, wrong track number. over time that effects presidential approval. that effects that number. that's what the white house has to be worried about, that wrong track number. and pat is absolutely right. if, at any point and i have no idea whether it will happen. if at any point obama's job approval drops below 40%, that is the psychological barrier and then the dam is broken, all hell breaks loose. >> let me just say about the right track, wrong track, these numbers are getting worse and worse now. country as i said -- we will see what tomorrow's unemployment numbers bring but last month when the unemployment rate went back up to 9.1 and i said the country snapped, something began
5:17 am
to happen, you are seeing it now. you have -- there was a poll today 40% of americans say that the economy is in permanent decline. >> laura: yeah. >> this is really shocking. you have got well up into the 50s and almost 60% saying that their children's lives will be much worse off. >> laura: what does that spell to you, pat? that's a constant narrative. >> political vacuum. it may benefit one on one race. but it's changing the dynamics of the season. the anger pain in the country. being aimed the congress, the president. it is creating conditions far worse than we saw in '92. i'm just telling you if these economic trends continue, the politics we know in december of this year will be very different than the politics of the fourth of july that we're going to have this week. >> laura: larry, obviously people talked about japan's lost decade. we talk to folks, whether it's in michigan or go to columbus, ohio. chat with people. and they really have this sinking, haunting feeling that
5:18 am
america is in a permanent state of decline. i started doing this segment on my radio show like three years ago. people thought oh laura that's so pessimistic what do you mean america in decline? people are starting to pick up on all of these indicators, american manufacturing, american influence around the world. all of it going down. that has a very dragging effect on the american psyche. i think that could depress turnout for president obama, which he needs to juice to win this election. he has to juice the turnout. he has to get people to turn out. >> that's absolutely true. look, perform can kill any presidential re-election race. again, going back to pat, he remembers the crisis of confidence speech for president carter the summer of '79. >> that speech actually worked for a while. it was what came afterward. let me tell you something. if have you got the kind of economic problems that carter had and you have the kinds of problems overseas or anything. it's very tough to get reelected. we have seen that. and this president has got
5:19 am
trouble right now. bad trouble. >> laura: malaise haze. gentlemen, great to see you. thanks very much. coming up next, a government ordered sting operation aimed at stopping arms trafficking over the border in mexico may have actually helped the drug dealers and lead to the death of a u.s. border agent? well a whistle blower comes out of the shadows and may point the finger at high level government officials.
5:21 am
>> laura: hair brain scheme to allow mexican drug dealers to buy weapons in the united states and then take them over the border to mexico. supposedly to track their movements. well, of course, the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms quickly lost track of the weapons. two of these guns were then found at the scene where border patrol agent brian terry was
5:22 am
killed in december of last year. now president obama was asked about this botched sting operation yesterday. >> my attorney general has made clear that he certainly would not have ordered gun running to be able to pass through into mexico. the investigation is still pending. i'm not going to comment on a current investigation. i have made very clear my views that that would not be an appropriate step by the atf and we have got find out how that happened. as soon as the investigation is completed, i think appropriate actions will be taken. >> laura: who knew what when and how far up the chain of command did this ineptitude if that's all it is go? one atf agent who helped blot whistle on this embarrassing mess is joining us from reno, nevada. vincent, great to see you. before we get into the nitty gritty of this.
5:23 am
what is the story with your job? because you were the whistle blower here. you gave a lot of the information to the public, stuff we wouldn't have known otherwise. i thought we were all in favor of whistle blowers in the united states but what's happened to you? >> well, i have recently received my notice that the bureau of atf no longer needs my services or wants them. as a result of my actions along with dozens of others who have come forward. >> laura: sin vent, i'm looking at your file here in front of me, you have gotten repeated glowing reviews, job reviews over the years that you have been with atf. i mean, have you been commended for your exemplary service and have you served in a variety of capacities. what exactly happened? you reported what you knew about this back in december of last year. tell us the narrative. >> the short version is when i became aware -- i have been exposing what i saw as a deterioration in the senior leadership in atf to the point
5:24 am
where it started crossing pretty huge ethical and legal boundaries. other agents were coming to me from across the country just because i'm as senior as i am. and i became vocal and open and public about it. the straw that broke the back for me was when one of our own was killed with a gun that we allowed to walk. >> so back in december of last year, we find out that all these guns that were purchased in the united states had made their way into mexico and the total, it looks like, is about 1765 guns under this fast and furious program that was supposed to be so wonderful because i guess we were going to catchall these gun and drug runners as a result of this sting. when did you realize that we were allowing these purchasers of weapons to basically walk across the border with the weapons? when did you know that? >> some time back in october,
5:25 am
november, i started catching wind of it they kept a pretty tight lid on this. that is where the threats and the implied threats to the agents who were doing it came from that have now been release to the media in the way of emails and what have you, threatening anyone who spoke out or wasn't on the team, you know, could go work somewhere else. >> laura: we should remind everybody that atf is under the auspices of the department of justice and obviously the attorney general eric holder. he has been asked about this, vincent. he said similar to the president "i didn't authorize this. this sim proper. this isn't something i would ever authorize." is it conceivable that an operation like this, with this many weapons, moving across our border into mexico no one would have authorized this kind of operation? >> oh, there were people that at the justice department were intimately aware of this. through my own discussions with people in mexico atf agents who
5:26 am
were involved in this. you know, senator grassley and -- get to the bottom of this. and whether the attorney general approved it, ordered it, whatever words we're playing here, it should have been stopped immediately. when he did find out about it. and if he didn't know about it, why didn't he? >> laura: well, it seems like one or the other. either he has no handle on his own staff or the operations. this is a major operation. 1700 plus weapons crossing the border? i mean, we already have a huge gun and drug problem at the border. and now we become part of the problem. even if obviously that wasn't our goal. we become part of the problem. meanwhile, we have a dead border patrol agent inside of mexico and two of these guns were found at the scene. >> yeah. and i would like to point out that there is also another agent
5:27 am
whox zapata that who lost his life as wel that may be tied and countless law enforcement. the same autho ontyt as important as our people carrying guns and badges on this side that are lost their lives because of thisha mind because you are a whistle blower? >> absolutely. this has been a long time coming. i have become the most vocal in this process now. and, you know, it's going to cost me whatever it costs me from here on out. >> laura: cleaning up the atf is going to be a lot of work. vincent, thank you for the update. we appreciate it a web site devoted to attacking fox news is actually being subsidized by the federal government? what? and, the defense in the casey anthony trial pulls out all its stops in its last day of testimony and claims that may
5:30 am
>> laura: some education concerns that are nonprofit. one organization though receiving tax exempt status is the far left web site media matters, which says that its mission is to educate the public. but by its own mission media matters is in business to hurt the fox news channel. and other perceived conservatives concerned. why is the federal government subsidizing this outfit? bill recently spoke with c. boyden gray, a former white house counsel under president bush the elder who has been following this story. >> bill: what's the headline here in your opinion, counselor? >> the headline is that a democratic organization is using taxpayer funds to attack you, to assault your first amendment rights and to run the democratic
5:31 am
leaning media boot camp in violation of our tax laws and probably also the first amendment. >> bill: now, has media matters always had the tax exempt status from the beginning of its crusade against conservative americans? >> yes. although the papers they filed didn't announce a war on fox news. it said it was going to be distributing materials that annualized media bias. but, of course, what they have done since they got the exemption they got the status from the federal government, they have been running a war against you and a media boot camp. this is not what they -- not what they said and not what they were given a status as a tax exempt organization for. >> bill: so the irs, i guess is the agency that should revoke their status immediately, correct? >> that is correct. and someone should file an application or letter with them to question this. i don't think it should be fox. but someone should and i suspect after these stories that are being run probably will. and then we will see what the irs does.
5:32 am
the irs denied tax exempt status for a similar organization called the american campaign academy that the irs found was actually being run by and for a republican operatives. very, very similar to this boot camp being run by media matters. they denied tax exempt status for that organization. >> bill: there is no question that this organization should not be tax exempt. i mean, it pays the assassins who run it very well. six figures. it gets money from george soros, perhaps the most far left activist in the country and and his organization problem proving your point. to be fair and we always want to be that the media matters operations started under president bush the younger that's where they got their stacks exempt status not under
5:33 am
president obama. that's a little bit disturbing. >> as i said their papers were okay. what they said they were going to do was -- is not what they are now doing. >> bill: but they have been doing this kind of political assassination for, what, five, six years now? >> no, i don't think so it's that long. i think it's far more recent than that actually. >> bill: i was on the radio factor when it started. it had to be at least four years ago because we were dealing with this -- from the jump we were dealing with this propaganda that they were throwing out. >> well, the declaration of war was in the last three years. i may be wrong about the date. i don't think you can blame the bush irs tail end of that administration. i think -- i don't think you can blame that on bush or say that, therefore. the obama internal revenue service is exonerated. >> bill: do you think it is that the obama administration is actively knows about this and wants this to happen? >> it should know about it. and after this broadcast. >> bill: it will know about it,
5:34 am
absolutely bill. >> it will know about it that's the point of writing and speaking about it. >> bill: what has to happen now is that some american or a group has to file an objection with the irs, formal objection, all right, that this agency, media matters should not have tax exempt status. but then it's going to take years, right? doesn't it take years for the investigation and all of that nonsense? >> i don't think it should take years. i don't think the proceeding with the american academy, the republican organization took years. so it shouldn't take years. if it does, then you know you have got a problem. you should, perhaps, go into court and force a little action in that way. >> bill: all right, counselor. well we appreciate you bringing it to everybody's attention. certainly not a good situation. media matters should not have tax exempt status. >> laura: for all you ipad users. the fox news channel has a fantastic new application for the ipad and iphone where, among other things you can watch
5:35 am
streaming video of the casey anthony trial. watch it live. go to foxnews.com/ipad. plenty more ahead as the factor moves along tonight. the defense team at the casey anthony trial points the finger at casey anthony's dad as it finally wraps its case. later, why do americans prefer having boys in their family? the culture warriors have some thoughts about that police stay tuned to those reports.
5:37 am
>> bill: thanks for. >> laura: thanks for staying with us. i'm laura ingraham in for bill o'reilly. in the culture warriors segment tonight. last night we showed you this provocative "newsweek" cover imagining what it would be like if princess diana were still alive. we asked you if the cover is pinheaded or patriotic. the votes are in. 92% of you think it's pinheaded while 8% think it's just pure patriotic.
5:38 am
but do the culture warriors think? they join us now from new york. joining us from new york gresham carlson and fox news analyst margaret hoover. gresham, you get the first stab at this. >> all right. >> laura: i think it's creepy and an attempt to sell magazines. magazine that's had tough times. >> no doubt. "newsweek" was sold for a buck. this is obviously a magazine that's desperate to get rearedship. this is going to be the sign of the times of the future. all magazines are desperate nor readers. having covered the royal wedding recently in london what was top of mind for everyone there was what would this be like if diana were here? i think that there is still this fascination about princess diana i'm not so sure. it's obviously not a patriotic thing to put her on the cover. i would have to tell you i would want to read it i would want to see what shield look like now. i think people are still fascinated by her. >> laura: margaret, is it nostalgia for earlier time,
5:39 am
simpler time, ads with james dean and john wayne, it seems like we are hearkening back to a different day. maybe not as complicated. >> there is no question that diana certainly captured the hearts of an entire generation of women in america. i'm not surprised at all that your pinheads and patriots things came back to see divisively against it look, americans have rejected monarchy. the divine right of kings in order to have a society that cherished individual freedom and allow individuals to rise above the circumstances of their birth based upon their own talent and skills. am i surprised they rejected it? not at all. for this generation of women and a small segment of the population, this is a very intriguing notion. and, monarchy does still sell in the u.s. people buy it. so, for tina brown to try to turn around a magazine run into the ground by left wing idealogues it's pretty good cover to sell magazines. >> laura: i see "newsweek."
5:40 am
news weak is there nothing else happening in the world. >> nothing else draws attention. we're talking about it tina brown is smart. she got everyone talking about the cover. >> laura: how about sons and daughters. gresham as a mom i have one daughter and two sons but now i guess it's just people want boys? what's going on there? >> well, so this new survey said that americans would choose to have a boy rather than a girl. but one thing that's missing, i think, in this survey, laura, they did not decipher whether or not they were asking parents or people who don't have children yet. i think you would get a totally different answer if you actually just surveyed people who already have children. let's face it, there is still some sort of discrimination in our society. and i think that it is sort of this forgone conclusion that boys are easier to raise and that they end up being more successful. however, the facts now show that more girls are actually graduating from college than boys and that girls do better in school in general.
5:41 am
so, i'm not so sure about these results because they didn't -- they didn't pars out whether or not they are asking parents or single people. >> they didn't pars out that. what they did pars out though is that they asked men whether they wanted to have boys or girls. they asked women whether they wanted boys or girls. the difference was stunning. men 49% wanted a boy. 22% wanted a girl. women, 33, 31. it's not that the country is -- not that the country wants boys it's that men want boys. >> until they have a girl and then they love their girls. >> correct. you can't fault men for wanting. when you want children you want the likeness of yourself and your child. as soon as a dad gets a girl. there is a reason by daddy's girl is a thing. nobody want to give back their girls. >> melts your heart. is there some ego involved here maybe a little bit, gresham, look, we are all guilty of this. you want your name to be passed on and the son is the -- is going to carry on your name and your tradition. maybe there is a little bit of that as well. >> maybe there is. all i know is that when i
5:42 am
finally got pregnant i didn't care what i had. i was just so blessed to be able to have two kids. >> that's why you are a woman who doesn't care whether you have a boy or a girl. true to data point. >> laura: unhappier topic drugs alcohol study out adolescents. what's most stunning in your mind, margaret? figures are pretty high. >> for me what's shocking, laura, you have a generation of kids who what we are finding with the science is look, when i was in high school, college, really high school, this is about middle school and high schooler who's are drinking and abusing drugs, abusing cigarettes and alcohol, what we are finding is the percentage of them use it when they're young much higher percentage of becoming addicted and having real dependencies health issues and dependencies when they're older. these kids are wayward and they will straighten out when they get older. chances of straightening out are lower because they are exposing themselves to serious addiction behavior that will follow them into their adulthood.
5:43 am
>> laura: the lesson here is the longer you can avoid this stuff the better off for you. put it off as long as possible. don't do it at all. >> this figures in culturally to our society right now. because there is a bunch of talk about legalizing marijuana. i think that this shows that that may not be a great idea for our young people. >> totally agree. >> completely agree. ladies, great to see you. have a great independence day. >> happy fourth of july. >> coming up next, how did casey anthony's dad really know about how little caylee died? how much did he know? today's testimony help his daughter beat a murder conviction? judge jeanine pirro will tell us right from the courthouse in florida. do not miss this. she is right there.
5:46 am
>> laura: in the unresolved problem segment tonight, the defense in the casey anthony murder trial is making a last-ditch effort to implicate her father in the coverup of the death of the 2-year-old little girl. they even put his alleged former mistress on the stand who claimed that he made a disturbing admission. >> he was sitting on my couch, and i was sitting on the floor. and he had told me -- he had said it was an accident, that out of control. i was in shock. by the time i looked up, his eyes were filled with tears and i didn't elaborate. i didn't ask him anything further. >> laura: didn't ask anything further? that doesn't even make sense to me? how could you not ask? as the defense tries to continue to point the finger of blame against casey. continue to wonder if this strategy is going to work. you are own judge jeanine pirro
