granddaughter. she just admitted she has been trying to find her, herself there is something wrong. i saw my daughter's car today and it smells like there has been a dead body in the damn car. >> greta: tonight we are in florida. >> one thing i know for sure, casey knows who has caylee, but didn't know where caylee's at. >> greta: do you 100% believe your daughter? >> yes. >> greta: george? >> more than 100%. >> i have specific instructions for the bondsmen and bounty hunters they are not to question her in any shape or form. >> the attorney has told her not to speak to anybody. >> of course that is the advice i would give. if a mother is missing a child that mother wants to find that child and they don't don't about keeping the agreement with the lawyer they think about finding the child. >> she did a stupid thing going in. now compounded by lying to the cops. now maybe she has this fear

that if the cops go after that individual it causes my child's death or harm. i don't know what she is thinking. >> greta: casey anthony is free. she walks out of the slam her after a bunny hunter posted $500,000 bond. >> you will get -- get your chance. >> breaking news. today in orlando, florida, a utility worker stumbled on the skeletal remains of a child less than half a mile from the home of missing 3-year-old caylee anthony. >> i can tell you that the investigation is continuing. we have secured the anthony house. >> greta: here is where the remains were found in december. there's a lot of searching done and the police have been combing the area the sheriff's department looking for any possible clues. everybody is suspicious that it was casey anthony who murdered her daughter. because it is in close

proximity to the home and because she told so many stories. however, she is presumed innocent and she will have her trial and facts will be uncovered. even murder, the jury decides if casey anthony murdered her 2-year-old daughter as the prosecution claims with duct tape and chloroform or if it was an accidental drowning at her family's home, which is what the defense now says. caylee was reported missing in july of 2008. 31 days after she was last seen by her grand parents. casey said caylee was with a nanny and didn't know where her daughter was that was a lie. five months later, caylee's remains were found in the woods not far from the family home. how did caylee die? accident or murder? during this next hour you will go deep inside this compelling and deeply disturbing base. you go inside the anthony home even casey's bedroom. you will see the swimming pool and ladder that is central to the defense case.

caylee anthony died june 16th, 2008 when she drowned in her family's swimming pool. this family must keep itself s quiet. and it all began when casey was 8-years-old and her father came into her room and began to touch her inappropriately. and it escalated. and it escalated. >> george anthony accused by% of -- baez of badger engineering him. i'm trying to do the best i can. some things i might not remember exactly happens to anyone. when you get into this thing with you and i sir you are going off in a way to get me more upset and i don't think that is fair. >> i was in orlando, everyday crowds of people running to get tickets. look at this video, people seen pushing and yelling at each other to get seats inside the courtroom. >> what is your emergency?

paraphrasing because maybe i'm a spiteful [ bleep ] >> today the court her the tapes of the decks tearing down casey's story one day after she finally reported her -- her little girl was missing. >> everything you've told us we've shown you have lied about. >> suspected child killer broke down in court today as prosecutors showed graphic crime scene photos of her 2-year-old daughter's corpse. pictures showed the toddler's skull, duct tape and strands of hair. the judge ordered people to leave if they didn't think they would be able to hand i. >> the story is getting more bizarre every minute. casey accused of stealing that drowning story from a fellow inmate. >> the name of the witness is april whalen. apparently, her child died in

a swimming pool and was found by the child's grandfather who immediately administered cpr and called 911 miss what i -- police whalen was in a jays sent cell to miss anthony for a brief period of time. >> cindy anthony testified she did searches for chloroform on the internet. >> do you recall in march of 2008 you do any types of searches for any items that might include chloroform? >> yes. >> did you input the word into the google search engine, how to make chloroform? >> i don't recall putting in how to make chloroform. but i did google search chloroform. and we talked about it in my deposition. >> i don't want to be here. i don't want my sister to be here, my parents to be here.

this is obviously just very emotionally draining and very difficult. >> based upon the reports that the court has reviewed, the court will find that the defendant is competent to continue to proceed. >> you of course would never admit to molesting your child, would you sir? >> sir, i never would do anything like that to my daughter. >> me question is, with you would never admit to it, would you sir? >> sir, i would never do anything to harm my daughter in that way. i never had a romantic affair with krystal holloway, river cruz or whatever name she wants to give you or the world. >> did you develop a relationship with mr. anthony? >> yes, sir i did. >> was this an intimate relationship? >> yes. he was sitting on my couch. i was sitting on the floor. and he told me, he said it was

an accident that snowballed out of control. but i was in shock. by the time i looked up, his eyes were filled with tears. >> had you held out the hope that caylee would be found alive? >> absolutely, everyday from july 15th, until the day we were told it was caylee. >> i did not search for neck-breaking. but i do recall there was a pop-up that was showing a youtube regarding a skateboarder that was skate wording -- that was skateboarding on rails. >> i believe mrs. anthony testified that during her searches there was a pop-up. >> not the result of a pop-up. but is the result of a human being specifically entering neck and breaking into the

google search box and pressing search. >> why would your work schedule show that you were working? >> could have been an error if my supervisor filled out my time card in my absence if it came on a data our time cards were to turn in. >> was there every a time that cindy anthony would be allowed to be at home and and yet the records would reflect she was at work? >> no. >> that would -- would that be illegal to do? >> yes. >> greta: what is casey anthony's life like beyond bars? this is the jail where casey anthony is being detained, pending trial. this is where she lives. this is also the home to 74 others who are charged with murder in this county. in the front entrance is where you may recall she was released when she was bonded

out for a short period of time that is not the entrance she uses to go to and from court. this is about a 20 minute drive to the courthouse. she is in this jail. if you are looking for privacy, this is not the place. she in protective custody, level 1. one hour per day to take a shower or sit in the day room or make calls or she can get books. 45 minutes three times a week for a video visitation. the video is set-up across the street. she gets to see her lawyer any time she wants to. lawyers come day or they can come in the middle of the night if they want to. people have sent casey anthony checks, money orders she can go to the commissary and buy items. we know what she has been buying in the commissary. the most recent order list i have right now she has bought,

chicken breast, nachos, tortillas, m & m's, beef stew, chapstick, toothpaste, toothbrush, uponly tail holder comb. you have basically no privacy at all. we know everything she has purchased. everything she has eaten. and the thing that probably is most people don't understand because of security considerations the door of her cell is clear. you can look in that's where her toilet and sink is. there is zero privacy in these jails. that is said to be for the protection of the person inside the jail and also for the protection of the other inmates and the correction officers because they want to know what she has in her possession at all times. her safety is a big concern of this jail. put the camera there, you can see just how secure this

facility is. 74 people facing murder charges in this jail alone. these jails are usually built with more facilities for men and women because more machine are in jail than women. there's a men's side and a women's sigh. not luxurious by -- any means. lights out 10, 11:00 at night. it doesn't mean lights out. lights out means lights dimmed. 4:00, 5:00 in the morning the lights come back on. all night long people are watching her and every inmate. this is a short term facility. not designed to be where someone can live a long time. for that reason it is austere. most people incarcerated are anxious to get through the trial procedure and get to a prison should that be their fate. a prison generally is a better place to live, it is a long

>> on june 16th, 2008 did you come home and notice the pool ladder was up as depicted in the photographs? >> it was attached to the pool. >> was that highly unusual event for you? >> yes, so much that i called george at work to see if he had left the pool ladder up. because i also noticed

that side gate was open. >> greta: what happened to caylee anthony? originally casey said she dropped her daughter off with a babysitter and never saw her again. the defense is now claiming the 2-year-old drowned accidentally on june 16th, 2008. and -- in the anthony family swimming pool and george anthony helped cover it up. is it possible caylee drowned in the pool? in august 2008, we spoke with cindy anthony at their home she showed us the backyard swimming pool that the defense is focusing on and talked at length about the pool and ladder. we were told that the ladder was on june 16th, the last day your husband saw caylee and you had seen her the day before, when you left the ladder was off the pool when you came back the ladder was on. is it possible there was a terrible accident here? >> i don't know. we did look around the pool area that was one of the

things i had talked to the detectives early on, do you think an accident could have occurred? they checked out that whole area. i was worried last year when caylee wasn't really sure-footed and the steps going up there. we always carried her. i was worried about slipping. it is a steep ladder. we always made sure there was always two adults. you would hand one off. this year caylee was great climbing the steps. we had a routine where she climbed a certain level and we were sure-footed on the ground so there was no slippage coming down those steps. i still was concerned, what if? the one thing i'm absolutely positively sure of if there was an accident why would casey want to hide something? she would be calling 911 frantically saying something has happened to my daughter, can you come help? there's a lot of drowning victims that come back. i had a close friend years ago,

her daughter drowned. they brought her back and she was fine. it was several minutes before someone came and was able to rescue her. i don't think -- you know i'm pretty sure that there was nothing like that, that happened. i'm pretty confident there. was no evidence of any hitting her head, bleeding or anything like that around the pool area that was something that they never hit on that area the dogs never the sheriff's department assured me everything back there was fine. there was no sign of anything like that in the pool, no vomit, they checked the filter. things like that, that you would want to look at. i'm confident that did not happen. >> greta: i understand your husband george >> sean: caylee and casey 1:10 on the 16th. >> 12:50.

>> greta: 12:50. left and returned. after the return the ladder [ talking over each other ] >> greta: explain to me. >> i know on the 15th, i took the ladder off the pool. caylee and i were swimming, not casey and it. casey said it was too cold. when caylee was ready to come out casey took out and i took the ladder off. two days later when i came outside, after work, it was later in the evening, i went out, as i normally do to check the pool level, the chlorine level and things like that and let the dogs you. the ladder was on the pool. i asked my husband if he cooled off because he had just been doing some yard work. the gate had been opened. that wind the first time we had kids or whatever coming in possibly, -- there's

neighborhood kids summertime they know there's a pool there that could have again in. i asked him if he -- could have gone in. i asked him if he had gone in. we had not locked the gate. after that we started ing 9 gate. it frightened me that -- me that maybe someone would come in and have an issue with the pool and us not home. when you have a pool you have that ladder you can takeoff, but you also have a gate around the pool for safety so kids can't wander in. >> greta: you don't assign anything to the ladder? >> not at all. >> greta: who is caylee's father? cindy anthony talks about that. she takes you inside casey and caylee's bedroom. the prosecution is focusing on casey's behavior. why would a mother whose daughter was kidnapped go to bars and get a tattoo? shouldn't she be searching for her daughter? meet the tattoo artist.

growth who was caylee's father? what was casey and caylee's life like together? you are about to get a glimpse. cindy and if i gave us a tour of their home in august of 2008. she took us inside casey's bedroom covered with photos of her daughter and then caylee's room. >> this is casey's room. you told me that caylee often times slept with her mother, right? >> every night she slept in here from the time she was born. casey breast-fed her. >> this is how the room -- >> this is how the room is always. except for caylee's toys usually being on the bed, a blanket, stuffed animals, those kinds of things. >> on the wall the picture. >> yeah.

most of the pictures except for when casey was little, this is casey and lee when they were little. i think she was three months old there. >> greta: who is the father? >> caylee has never had a father. he was a friend of casey's. he's never been on caylee's life. not on her birth certificate. a friend of casey's that lives out of state. by the time caylee was born he had already started another family and he passed away earlier in the year. again, his family never had knowledge of caylee and that was a mutual thing that casey and he had agreed upon. that he was not going to be part of caylee's life. they talked down the road when caylee was older there may be a possibility to introduce him into her life. but nothing, it was a mutual

thing. it has never been an issue many ways a good thin, because when we did casey's will and had everything drawn up weeks after caylee's born we made sure that no worry about child support, or anything like that. no one had ties to caylee. that was probably a good thin. >> greta: was -- good thing. >> greta: was in a relationship she had in florida did he live here? >> no he was an old friend that had come into town. he was going through some things. she was going through some things and they leaned on each other. they were just there for each other. they were friends. she had known him before, but he was not living in florida when caylee was born. >> greta: look at this, who put this together? >> crazy. she -- casey.

she never got to finish it. she wanted to get it framed. it is just -- casey a photographer. she took photography in school. she was going to go to photography school after high school. she go a job through event imaging solutions or whatever it is, which is a subcontractor through universal studios right after graduation. she got to do photography there. she was gonna go back and go to photography school. tampa had a get school there. she got offers all over from california for a full ride over there. but then when caylee was born her focus was caylee. her dreams down the road was to have a studio so she could be available for caylee with whenever she wanted. >> greta: there are pictures

all over. >> her friends are very important to her. she has collages of her friends and family and things of that nature. >> greta: this is casey's bedroom. caylee often slept -- but she had her own bedroom? >> yeah this is caylee's room. i've never seen so many stuffed animals in my life. >> there's more. >> greta: little monkeys, rabbits, tigers. >> you can tell animals have been on her bed her pillows are off. >> greta: the baby picture. >> yeah. that has a lot of caylee's personality in the hospital two days after she was born. that's caylee, expression like you know what, you better behave. she just got her eye on you. >> greta: over here the toys and books.

what is this? >> i made that the first week. all those pictures were within the first week of caylee coming home. we had a baby shower. caylee was born monday night, tuesday morning. we had a baby shower for her on that saturday. this was a baby shower present that i put together for casey. just with pictures and caylee's birth announcement. >> greta: look at the sweet picnic table. >> this was one of caylee's favorite places. teddy is her nighttime bear she sleeps with. teddy is holding caylee's seat this is where she has her tea parties and mr. pig and elmo. >> greta: mr. pig is cute. >> yeah, george and i bought that for caylee when she was little. >> greta: this is the item, this right here. this is the guy she sleeps

what the manner of death is? >> manner of death, i could -- no. i would not be able to tell you. to not open the head, i think is a failure. i failure of the autopsy. i tell you another thing that if an autopsy was done in a corresponding to what i think every forensic pathologist will tell you, where the head is not opened that tells me about a shoddy autopsy. it upsets my better knowledge, my better understanding of my profession that i've now practiced for 56 years. that somebody would do an autopsy -- >> excuse me. >> greta: dr. baden joins us to talk about the evidence. dr. baden's wife is a former member of the defense team in this case. dr. baden, nice to see you. >> good to see you greta. >> greta: in a perfect world

with a fully professional autopsy, if you found those remains of that child, six months after she died. if it sat out in the open sun and maybe in swampy waters, is there some diagnostic test or autopsy means by which you can determine whether she died from drowning or suffocation? >> yes. the diatoms. if she drowned, then the diatoms in the bone marrow which they examined. but they examined it for toxicology not these one-sell plans, can tell which body of water, pool, lake, and a bathtub that she may have drowned in, if she had drowned. >> greta: you say diatoms. what is that? and number two, you say it can tell. are you saying it would tell with certainty? >> if it is positive it is certainty. diatoms are like plankton,

one-sell plans ubiquitous around the world. there are a few thousand different species. normally, one can take water from whatever body of water and find four, five different species in the water that's like a fingerprint of the water. if that's inhaled into the lungs, into the body that goes by the bloodstream into the bone marrow. so that after death i if the bone marrow is examined and has the same five species as in the water, that indicates that child had inhaled that water and is evidence of drowning. >> greta: one thing the viewers should know probably the dirty secret about trying cases the gamesmanship between defense and prosecution. sometimes both sides don't want a principle annal ed because they are afraid of what the result will be in this instance this diatoms is

that something every medical examiner knows about that should have been done here? >> i think all medical examiners know about it. i think it should have been done. as you indicated, maybe the prosecutor didn't want to do it. maybe the defense didn't want to do it, because they didn't want the results. but it could have been done, it should have been done and it want done. >> greta: when autopsies are done, medical examiners often times take tissue samples, and they save them. would a routine sample kept from this autopsy had been saved so it still could be determined? >> it is possible if they saved a part of a been or a whole bone. the remains were given back to the family and i you stan cremated. they did take -- and as i understand cremated. since this is a case that isn't completed yet, maybe the

toxicologist still have the bone marrow in their office that they did toxicology and didn't find anything and that could still be used for diatoms, if it is still available. >> greta: was this autopsy professional or -- >> it was professional. but it was incomplete. the head should have been looked at. i think, after all there were no tissues. there was nothing to cut, except to open up the head that wind done. that -- you never know. when you open up the head, you look in and see the bottom of the skull and there's bones there, the ear bones, that in drowning can be very helpful in determining whether or not there was hemorrhage and whether or not the person drowned. it could be helpful. >> greta: the prosecution has at least suggested or attempted to prove, the jury will make a determination, that the debt was by chloroform, suffocation or a combination.

do you have a thought about that? >> as things stand now from a forensic point of view, one can't distinguish between drowning and some kind of suffocation. there's no evidence of chloroform. this was tested for. i think the only evidence was dr. vass' sniffer machine which is unreliable, unconfirmed new evidence that should never had been introduced there's no chloroform. the prosecution tried to say she made chloroform in her house. if she made chloroform in the house there would be an odor throughout the house. it is hard to do. the odor would stay for weeks and weeks, if it were chloroform. i think there is no evidence of chloroform. they did the hair. they looked for chloroform in the hair. and they didn't find it. >> greta: at least at this point, we are sort of left with a circumstantial case which can be as powerful as a direct evidence case.

as casey anthony sits in jail, waiting as the evidence unfolds. a jury will make a decision. was it murder? did she murder a child? or was it an accident? you're looking at a wooded area. it's about a two-minute drive from the home where little caylee anthony lived with her mother and grandparents. probably a five minute walk f you recall, she disappeared in june of 2008, three years ago. the police first started looking for her in july, when the grandmother reported she was missing. and the police say they didn't look in this particular area. the searchers because it was so flooded. well, you can see how dense sit now, three years later. about the same time of the year. the remains of caylee were found in december, 2008. about six months after she disappeared. it's hard to ignore the fact that the child's remains were found two minutes, by car from
