designed to keep the party safe for everyone. they have done a terrific job. >> rick has that part of our coverage. rick, what is going on? >> hey, megyn and bill. hard to believe with one or two million people in the heart of the times square. it could be one of the safest places in america right now. among the thousands of police officers including 1500 rookie cops who just graduated from the nypd, you also have federal agents who spent much of the day with the f.b.i., they have a lot of teams out here as well and the nypd has locked the place down. they are so calm about this. they have been through it so many times and drill for it all year long and respond to calls all year long and they are working together to make this a safe, we all hope new year's eve. they have bomb-sniffing dogs and checkpoints in times square and no back packs or

go in the coming year because it is a new you beginning. >> megyn: i think one of the reasons why people come to times square and why people watch times square on new year's eve, it as gathering of humanity. it is the same feeling you get when you go to church or when you go to sporting event or go to a concert and you are with your fellow human beings on this earth just celebrating a moment together. it just makes you feel connected to your fellow human beings. >> bill: you see all of the shimmering blue stuff down there in the crowd. that is an individual who has waited eight, ten, 15 hours for the moment they are are about to experience live in times square as we close out 2011, the year that has had numerous challenges for our country and hopefully as we go forward in 2012 it is a new beginning for all of us. >> megyn: there is a couple of good signs. the unemployment rate is a little lower than it was this
