simply inexclusive. mr. speaker, i'm not anti-immigrant. my father was born in mexico. my wife's father was born in whales. they came to this country. the idea that i'm anti-immigrant is repulsive. don't use a term like that. i think you should apologize for it and recognize having differences of opinions on issues does not justify labeling people with highly charged epitaphs. >> bill: unlike the final south carolina debate, speaker gingrich did not really launch last night. he was much more measured in his responses. he largely left the media alone but did stakeout religious territory. >> one of the reasons i'm running is there has been an increasingly aggressive war against religion and in particular against christianity in this country, largely by. [ applause ] largely by a secular elite in the academic news media in judicial areas. i frankly believe it's important to have some leadership that stands up and says enough, we are truly

guaranteed the right of religious freedom, not religious oppression by the state. >> bill: now, a bunch of polls released today have mitt romney leading in florida. those polls are already obsolete because of what happened last night. talking points does expect mitt romney to win florida in w. newt gingrich coming in second, rick santorum and ron paul a distant third and fourth. i coulden wrong but that is the trend line right now. once again, there isn't really much difference between romney gingrich and santorum on the issues. lower taxes, shrink the government and promote capitalism. it is a matter of style, not substance in the republic sweepstakes. tonight on the factor we will look at the immigration brouhaha with geraldo, the money factor with lou dobbs and bernie goldberg. bill o'reilly.com poll question for you. we are asking has the factor been fair in covering the campaign so far? yes or no. give you the results on monday. it's a very lively poll. one footnote we well understand ron paul supporters don't like us because we think that congressman paul is out

there and would never be able to govern the country because his belief system is so unorthodox. while the congressman has some good ideas he also has frightening ideas he won't be much of the factor from now on pardon the fun. all in all last night's debate helped governor romney. the governor has to feel better today. that's the memo. reaction from the purveyor of dick morris.com who joins us now from south florida. where am i going wrong here, morris. >> you are not wrong at all. i think that romney really did very well in the debate. he was entering the debate with momentum because he had gone from 10 behind to 7 or 8 ahead in all of the polls. but there is a fascinating thing. there is a gigantic gender gap, bill, in the last university poll in florida, gingrich is winning men by five points but losing women by 19. a 24 point begin der gap which

is aton issue issue -- astonish. >> bill: how can that be. last time they broke for him? how can that be. >> something we need to think about. it's true. it's happening. the polls don't lie. they will be reflective of the outcome in the exit polls you will see on tuesday where i think romney will win. why is it happening? well, it's anybody's guess. i think one factor you can't ignore is mrs. gingrich. >> bill: yeah, but she got blown out of the equation. that's what every male commentator says. there was no gender gap before her -- >> bill: there was no gender gap in south carolina two days after what she said. >> my theory is that it took some time to talk women among themselves getting together. women are much more social creatures than men in making their political decisions and, look, i'm not an expert on why

it's happening, i am an expert on -- >> bill: i at think it's a very interesting thing that people should study. south carolina more conservative state than florida. i think we all know that. but it's not -- you know, it's a fairly sophisticated situation now particularly in the low country on the coast. a lot of professional people. a lot of people move to south carolina from other states. but, newt gingrich cleaned up with women across the board, conservative women, moderate women, evangelical women, they all went for him in the storm, right in the face of the storm. when the headlines were everywhere. and now a week later you are telling me that women in florida say we don't like him. you know, really that's very interesting. >> it is. one other possibility there are nonmarital explanations. one is that romney has been focusing very heavily on the foreclosure crisis and labeling newt one of the causes of it because of his involvement with freddie mac. that might be hitting elderly

women disproportionately. it might be that romney comes across more presidential and maybe smoother i don't know. something big changed. the most likely something is mrs. gingrich. >> bill: morris, wait, take a deep breath. deep, blow out. okay. one of pundits on the internet. one of the political web sites said that among gingrich's staff, and we don't know whether this is true or not that there was disenchantment, that they didn't feel the speaker was himself last night. he was off his game. did you see that did that come across to you. >> i had a conversation with a talk radio show host who had -- in fact i don't think she would mind me using her name monica crowley. she taped an interview with newt right before she taped one on thursday for airing on her show on saturday. she said that she thought that

newt was tired in that discussion that's the phrase she used last night. newt gingrich is being outspent. the funding has not materialized. >> bill: i thought he they another check into florida. >> that's what they said. >> bill: like the godfather, remember that scene in the money never got to the island. the money never got to florida? >> 6 through rick tyler's pac. a very small media buy from the gingrich campaign and about 8 to $10 million from the romney campaign i think gingrich feels beaten up and battered. the guy has lost 18 points in six days. that will make you tired. >> that's how crazy this whole thing is because everybody goes up, down, in, and out,

>> let me did you say what the ad. >> it's taken totally out of context. did i not say it about spanish. >> bill: number one, the governor should have known what was in the ad if you are going to put your name on it. i'm mitt romney and i approve this message. have you got to know what the message is, all right? that was against him. number two, newt gingrich roll the tape. >> we should replace bilingual education with immersion in english so people learn the common language of the country and so they learn the language of prosperity not the language of living in a ghetto. >> bill: here now mr. rivera. he didn't say spanish. >> he spent spanish. >> bill: how do you know. >> that's what he was implying. he was moving for english only as the law of the land as the federal law of the land. he is speaking specifically about spanish people. that is the way it was

construed. >> bill: speaking about iranians speaky farsi. >> he may indeed be including them in his condemnation of any language other than english. first of all by the way i think immigrants should be required to speak english. i think it is the glue that binds a nation of immigrants like ours together. however, there is no doubt but that newt gingrich had ample opportunity to deny he was referring to spanish after he said that unfortunate remark in 2007. and as far as i know, this was the first time he denied that it applied to us. i think that it was an awful mistake on his part. >> bill: i don't think t was one of his finest moments but he might have been talking in general terms about the language of the ghetto. >> i do not believe that they don't speak much farsi in the ghetto. >> bill: but they also speak very poor english sometimes in the ghetto. >> sometimes they do. and as i said many of those people who speak poor english. >> the would he bees and ebon nics and stuff like that does not help you.

>> that does not help anyone. i agree that people should speak english in the united states to get ahead. >> bill: let's assume that some hispanic voters in florida feel the way you do that the speaker did demean the spanish language. that hurt him? >> well, i think that gingrich's problem is broader than that in florida. i don't think it's a cosmic issue. i think the problem for gingrich in florida is that mid romney has been campaigning in florida since 2007. he has been campaigning very heavily in the cuban-american con sebaali -- concentration in south florida. scored mel martinez the former cincinnati. both diaz congressman. the very prominent hispanic congresswoman. he has gotten all the cuban -- >> bill: what about rubio? >> rubio is technically neutral. rubio really exscore rated gingrich. this is more significant even in the slander of the spanish

language. rubio criticized newt gingrich for saying that mitt romney in his ads was anti-immigrant. as you know, the difference between the two is very nuances. gingrich believes that after 25 years or so illegal immigrants, undocumented immigrants should be given a pass, kind of a statute of limitations after 25 years if they have laid down routes, they have children and grandchildren, they haven't committed a crime. romney wants them all to go back. >> bill: shouldn't that help gingrich though in the hispanic precincts. >> it should have but when you consider that bank robbery in the federal court is a five year statute of limitations and he has got 25 years for illegal immigration it's not a big give on gingrich's part. >> bill: also not a mexican thing in florida. it's a cuban thing and central american thing. >> i'm glad you point that out. the hispanic republic, it's a closed primary only republicans can vote. the overwhelming majority of hispanic republicans in florida are cuban-americans, very conservative, and the

immigration issue doesn't really apply to them because they get most favored nation status visa we immigrant. haitian immigrant hits the beach he gets deported. cuban immigrant hits the beach is he welcomed as -- he has the republic nod but he will get trounced in florida, trust me, because of his anti-immigration stance in the general election. remember, the florida component of the illegal immigration -- of the florida latino population has changed over the years. cuban americans no longer dominate. they are a half million strong. there are a million other latino voters, puerto ricos and others. >> bill: i'm going to bet you that the republicans carry florida this time around. >> i think the latinos will vote overwhelmingly for barack obama. >> bill: i have so many dinners piled up between miller and morris. >> romney wins tuesday but he loses in november in florida.

[ applause ] >> mr. speaker, you made an issue of in this week when you said that he lives in a world of swiss bank and cayman island bank accounts. i didn't say that you did. >> i did.

i'm perfectly happy to say that on an interview on some tv show. this is a national debate where you get the chance to get the four of us talk about -- >> you make a serious allegation against governor romney like that. you need to explain that. [boos] >> bill: awe, joining us from miami bernie goldberg who is usually on monday evenings but will be out of town so in case he never comes back we wanted to have him on one last time today. >> very nice, bill. very nice of you. >> bill: i'm always looking out for you bernie, come on, man. you know that the cnn suits, the people behind the throne told blitzer if he comes after you, you better slap him back. you know, no more john king stuff. you better go back after him. that's exactly what that was all about. i thought blitzer did a pretty good job saying, hey, if you are going to make a big deal out of it in your campaign, i'm going to ask you about it. don't give me any garbage. i would have done that. >> right. here is my rule of thumb. it's legitimate to go after a reporter or moderator if he

asks you an unreasonable or unfair question that clearly shows his own biases. but wolf blitzer asked a fair and reasonable question, especially as you just said. since it was gingrich who initially brought up the swiss bank account thing earlier in the campaign. so, you did notice though, you did notice that the audience applauded gingrich and booed wolf blitzer. i think this is a reflexive reaction. i think the so-called mainstream media has made a lot of enemies over the years by their own actions and as a result the audience reflectively was rooting for newt gingrich. >> bill: i viewed it differently. >> but let me just add one sentence but wolf blitzer did absolutely in my view nothing wrong. no and i think it was newt gingrich's supporters who booed but the people at home, i don't think that they were mad at blitzer.

i think exactly the way you do i think think went wait a minute there is a difference between what john king did on the set-up coming right out of the box to make gingrich look bad. here is an interesting thing. did i one of my rare print interviews because they are doing a big article on why fox news has been number one for 10 years. by the way i told them one name, bernie goldberg. that's why. >> thank you, bill. >> i got to go. check, please. >> bill: reporter asked me would you have asked the question that john king asked about the speaker's former wife? i said to him i would not have asked that question at the top of the interview because that gives the accusation too much credibility. you don't do that and when i did ask the question i would have framed it this way: i would have framed it this way: mr. speaker, there has been an accusation by your former wife, which we at cnn have not been able to corroborate, not been able to corroborate, okay? do you feel it's going to hurt your campaign?

i wouldn't have said what the accusation was and i would have said we can't corroborate t, that would have been the way to do it. but, you know, these people who do these debates they don't even think about this stuff anymore. they are just right in your face. >> yeah. and i think in that case it was right in your face because john king was trying to start a food fight. he was trying to get an audience and hold an audience right off the top of the program. but that question could have been asked at the very end of the debate and if newt gingrich had a problem with it then, that would have been newt gingrich's problem. but by asking it off the top of the debate, with the reaction that it got, it just -- it was -- you said -- didn't you say it was a gift -- >> it was gift. they were prepared for t. >> chocolate and flowers. >> bill: they handed the south carolina primary to newt gingrich right there. the media gave it to them. >> during that segment.

>> bill: it's the same thing that happened last night. gingrich and his handlers knew that was coming. they knew they were going to go right after the messenger and blow him out of the water and that happened. >> it didn't work. >> bill: it worked. it worked for gingrich. gingrich knocked it out of the park in south carolina. >> no, no, no. in south carolina. but it didn't work last night. no. >> because the difference between last night and south carolina. >> bill: different question. >> south carolina was not legitimate and last night it was a legitimate question. >> bill: you agree with me though that the cnn people that pulled that wolf blitzer in they slapped him a couple of times like this and they said hey, if this guy comes after you, man, you have got to go right back at them. we don't want anymore of this. so you be ready that's exactly what they told wolf blitzer. wolf blitzer was ready and he went right back. give you the last word. >> you can only get away with that kind of thing if you are a candidate. if you are in the right. if you are picking at every little thing and you are not in the right, and the person

>> bill: factor follow up segment tonights, as you may know there was an intense conversation this week between arizona governor jan brewer and president obama. mr. obama was asked about it last night and jan brewer weighed in. >> there is a picture up there with governor jan brewer, what was going on there?

she said you were tense. she is all over the airwaves right now. >> what i have discovered is that i think it's always good publicity for a republic if they are in an argument with me. but this was really not a big deal. >> he was a little uncomfortable, a little unappreciative, if you will of my book and the way that he was portrayed in it. and i felt a little unnerved by the way that he spoke to me about it. >> bill: all right, joining us from fort worth texas radio host and from los angeles leslie marshall. governor brewer saying president obama was condescending to her after arizona passed tough immigration law. that's what this was all about, correct. >> we weren't in the room with governor brewer and the president. we don't know if he was condescending and perception is reality. but, i find it interesting, bill, that after the meeting at the white house, she didn't say that. it was after she wrote the

book. and you know this better than i, somebody can write something about you but when they see you face to face, sometimes they back down on those remarks. not as gutsy when they are hiding behind their computer or their pen as they are face to face. i think we saw that if you notice when she is pointing, they both are smiling. >> bill: i don't think they are real happy. i don't see a smile on her face. janine, do you see a smile? he is always smiling. but the smile doesn't look one of -- i don't think they like each other at all. and i think that president obama, you know, said, look, i gave you a courtesy of a white house meeting. you came in, we hard it around and then you wrote a book and said i was this and that in the meeting and i object to that. i think that's what it was all about. janine? >> oh, okay. what i find something -- interesting he gets off the airplane in a state that has terrible problem with drug dealers and terrorists and kidnappings. somebody is kidnapped every 3 a hours. the fbi has said it's the

third ---for three years in a row it's the kip capital of the united states. is he concerned about how he is portrayed in a book. he is more concerned about his ego than he is the state of the arizona. he was dismissive just to walk away from her and if he has did it once before we can bet in that white house office he probably was a bit con descending to her as well. >> bill: interesting point about the president's ego. the president has a unique position in this country, janine. you have to respect the office. you may not respect the man, but you have to respect the office. now, the little finger, i do that little finger thing. you ladies know that this little finger is out of control. i can't control it. it doesn't look good to the president of the united states. >> he is not the king. >> bill: remember the office of the presidency. >> yes, remember ha she is the governor. he walked away from her mid sentence. and is he concerned about how is he portrayed in a book. i mean, how about -- how are things in the state of

arizona, governor brewer? how can i help? let me come visit the border of arizona. he hasn't even visited the border of arizona. no, he is a suing her. i would love for you to visit the border and i will buy you lunch. >> bill: what do you say, leslie? was it appropriate for mr. obama to walk away on the tarmac? >> well, first of all, it's inappropriate for anyone to point, come on, bill, your mother taught you that. miss manners. you are right, bill, it is not the person. it is the office. his position is commander and chief trumps her position as governor of arizona. she was respectful to come out. for him to walk away, i wasn't there, the way i think it went down is he like jan, i didn't know you thought i was being condescending. i didn't like those things you were saying about me in your book. she starts in on him about immigration which is not his decision or hers at this point.

it's now in the hands of supreme court. end of story. i don't feel the president just cares about his ego. anybody who is president has an ego. >> bill: the president of the united states and the female governor of arizona in a little tit-for-tat. that develops into this. this is a loser for the president. it's a loser because he is more powerful than she is. and in the game of gender dynamics, janine, you can't do it. you can't do it. >> no, no. you can't do it. >> bill: i'm much lighter than you guys than i am on more his or rove. i am, i will admit it i'm much lighter on you guys than i am on them. >> because he is the president, he needs to have some dignity and some respect and to be intracious and to go in on the book? i still can't get over that. >> bill: i think you are making a good point. he probably should have overlooked the dopey book. what difference does it make? he is the president and he has got the big jet and then she is down there in -- i look arizona.

>> my investments are not made by me. my investments for the last 10 years blind trust managed by a trusee. mr. speaker i know that sounds like enormous revelation but you have checked your own investments? you also have investments from mutual funds that also invest in fannie mae and freddie mac. >> bill: here now to analyze lou dobbs. why are they doing this. >> nor newt gingrich to go after free enterprise, capitalism. >> bill: doesn't he know he has a blind trust? >> this is where we are seeing the real difference in these campaigns. one has research in-depth. one is flying by the seat of his pants. >> bill: you are saying gingrich is flying by the pants. >> absolutely. >> bill: romney knew gingrich had mutual fund by tax return i'm sure. >> romney has better information on gingrich than gingrich has on romney. >> bill: that's how it's laid out. >> absolutely. >> bill: i have mutual funds. do you have any mutual funds? >> yes. >> bill: okay. i have them.

and i don't know, i mean, they send me a statement, like 18 pages long. i don't know. >> i bet it is. >> bill: they have three shares here. four shares. they spread it around. okay? but i get. >> they may have fannie and freddie in there. they may have g.e. g.e. all day long. i don't sit there and go -- it's a mutual fund. that's what it is. >> absolutely. this is one of -- you are raising the point that reveals another aspect of the gingrich campaign. not only understaffed, underresourced. underfunded but now desperate. the man says he is smart. people write about gingrich as if he is smart and then he is and then he puts forward a stupid connection like between investing in freddie mac and fannie mae and being responsible somehow for foreclosures. that is the logic of desperation. >> bill: if romney had bought the stock himself because romney to be fair has hammered gingrich for taking all the money because working for freddie mac. >> neither one of these guys is a sweetheart. i don't mean to suggest that but, on this issue.

>> bill: fight back. >> absolutely. >> he didn't fight back in a way that was effective? >> you just watched romney land one from the floor with a right cross to his jaw and gingrich went down. on this issue you are not going to hear anymore of this. >> bill: that's it? >> you are not going to hear any more of this from gingrich. >> bill: you will hear romney for sure say that gingrich took 1.4 million from freddie mac. is he not going to stop that. >> and probably he shouldn't if they want to continue these attacks on one another. gingrich right now he has taken one to the jaw. >> bill: i bet that hurt him in the florida vote. >> i think it may have deny determinant to be honest. his politics -- almost are anti-free enterprise. anti-capitalism. >> bill: gingrich is. >> yes. >> bill: he isn't that way as a guy. >> i don't know what he is as a guy. >> bill: i have interviewed him for 10 years. gingrich is not anti-capitalistic guy.
