studio. that is it for us today. have a great week. we'll see you next "fox news captioned by closed captioning services, inc. >> we begin this live hour with breaking news and a tough development in the story we have been following. you may recall susan powell, the utah mom who vanished under mysterious circumstances, now, we are learning the two young children she left behind died today in an explosion at their home. the police in washington state where the little boys were living with family say a social worker had just dropped the the kids off for a supervised visit with their dad josh powell earlier today. and police say powell shoved the social worker out of the door and then fled inside the home with the boys. and that social worker reportedly smelling some kind of a gas, and called for help.

and moments later, the house blew up. fox news correspondent dan springer joining us on the phone from seattle. and dan, this is unreal. we've been following the story since the mom disappeared in 2009 and now the little boys are gone. what have you learned? >> oh, harris, it's so tragic and the key and lead in, it was a supervised visit and that case worker was supposed to be inside that home while the two boys, ajts seven and five were with their father, josh powell. that never happened as you said she was forced out and the door was locked behind her, she smelled gas, called the supervisor and a short time after that. she saw the explosion and of course, it was too late by that time. the police got there and fire department got there and found the bodies of two young boys and josh powell inside and not confirmed that yet, but most certainly going to be the case. with we can tell you, that this was a 12:45, this is a developing story, only three

hours and 15 minutes ago or so, and when she went inside there, to that house. and never did get inside though, because josh powell slammed the door on her and the rest is so tragic, harris. >> harris: you know, dan, among many questions that people are asking tonight, did anybody have any idea that something like this could happen? and from what i'm reading ab i don't know what, if your report is finding this, too, there were some last words from the dad, josh powell. who had the last words. how did that come about. >> associated press 12:05, josh powell sent a three-word e-mail to his attorney, jeffrey basset and those words, i'm sorry, goodbye. and basset did not get those words until two hours later, well after the fact. and josh was upset. he said, after being ordered to undergo a sexual evaluation, and that order just came in wednesday of last week and he was very upset. part of his requirement for to

get the kids back and those lost those two boys to the maternal grandparents, chuck and judy, and the boys longstanding dispute between the coxs and josh, but that supervised was supposed to be at 12:45. we have he learned the utah police are headed to seattle. of course, they've been looking for susan powell for two years and he's always been the only person of interest in the case and always said no, the evidence was circumstantial and now they're on the way to staeeattle to try to try up the detail. >> we got a detail. you said, the children lived with their family. who lived in the house. >> only josh powell, lived in the house. and his father, steve powell is actually in jail right now awaiting trial on child pornography charges, but josh powell lost his kids when the utah police were investigating

america's election headquarters and mitt romney on his way to colorado, ahead of the caucuses, he won in nevada last night and grabbing the largest chunk in the delegates for the race for the the presidential nomination. form massachusetts governor romney giving a victory speech in las vegas. he did not mention any of the other g.o.p. candidates. purely focusing his attacks on president obama. >> and this president began his presidency by apologizing for america. he should now be apologizing to america. >> harris: most of the results released hours after the caucuses in neve of neve, but votes from the state's most populous county still being counted and clark county saying they were up until the wee hours of the morning and we expect results anytime now. job roberts is on the story live from las vegas, with the story. john. >> and more on the vote count in a second, but mitt romney headed to colorado tomorrow morning and coming back with his family in las vegas watching the super bowl after what could only be described as a fabulous night for him, a

big victory rally at the red rocks casino as he took another blowout victory in the state of nevada. that's two in a row, 20,81 with 51% and we don't know the final tally, but let's put up what we know so far. 4% for mitt romney. 23% for newt gingrich and 18, 19% for ron paul and then about the 11% for rick santorum, those numbers are beginning to change ever so slightly as the vote count, root mange vote county from clark county comes in. mitt romney where he was and newt gingrich's numbers are beginning to come down a little bit and here is why that's important. there were 500 precincts that were out here in clark county, with just a thousand votes separating newt gingrich and ron paul for second place and ron paul's complain believe they had the numbers there that could vault them into second place and that could be worth another delegate and certainly, it's worth bragging rights. and then there are a lot of precincts, a bunch at least,

where there are disputes. more ballots cast than people signed up for the precinct. after they get the rest of the ballots counted, they'll try to resolve the contested precincts and inviting the campaigns to connell in and look at the process and whether or not they'll allow the votes or whether, harris, they may have to throw them out. >> harris: is it just me or do we keep hearing problems with the caucuses and vote counting? this kind of happened in iowa. >> yeah, the same sort of thing in iowa and then the results of the caucuses had been overturned. romney announced on the night and then overturned. and the process is flawed and should not be used in 2016 some say. i wouldn't mind betting you we'll see a primary in 2016. >> harris: you just say that because you're in vegas. (laughter) >> well, i mean you've got to bet on everything. what are the odds?

what's the split on a primary in 2016 as opposed to a caucus. >> harris: very good. well, the odds of having you doing great reporting for us are 100%. thank you very much. >> appreciate it. >> harris: heading overseas to egypt where the long-term u.s. ally could send some 19 americans to trial. among 44 international aid workers charged with promoting banned activities within egypt and they were working for pro democracy. from the state department. they're deeply concerned and working for clarification, from the egyptian government. sam lahood, the son of transportation secretary ray lahood is among those charged and could face up to five years in prison in egypt. he and the other americans for now, are staying at the u.s. embassy in cairo. coming up later this hour i'll talk with an expert on this region about exactly what should happen next to bring sam lahood and the others home, if that's even possible right now. well, now let's go to the the latest on the showdown with

iran over its nuclear program and more war games meant to rattle the u.s. iran's revolutionary guard and weeks ago, they performed more war games here the straits of hormuz and tehran repeatedly threatened to close down. and president obama speaking about the situation earlier today. our steve centanni live with the news from washington and what is the president saying? >> well, harris, you know, there's growing concern that israel getting ready to launch a unilateral air strike against iranian nuclear facilities and president obama was asked about that in an interview with nba news. >> i don't think that israel has made a decision what they need to do. i think they, like us, believe that iran has to stand down on its nuclear weapons program, but until they do, i think israel rightly is going to be very concerned and we are as well. >> in the meantime, iran faced

another round of military exercises, this time on the ground. there were naval maneuvers last month as they threatened to choke off oil shipments through the straits of hormuz and iran is threatened to cut oil shipments to unnamed countries in response to a european embargo and anyone who helps launch a strike on israel-- on iran will become a target, but some question whether iran can carry out such a threat. >> iran, it talks a big game, but it really doesn't have what we call in the securities studies field power projection capability. yes, it has hezbollah, a good relationship with hezbollah and maybe it could attack u.s. forces in afghanistan or cause problems in iraq, it doesn't have a military like the u.s. has a military. >> iran claims the nuclear facilities are only for peaceful purposes for generating electricity, but

>> a search underway in alaska for a 18-year-old believed to have been kidnapped from her job. police in anchorage looking for samantha koenig and they say surveillance video shows her leaving her job as a coffee stand barista with a man who appeared to be armed and was likely a stranger. koenig, supposed to close the shop wednesday night. but when her co-worker got there the next morning he she says the stand was abandoned and the money missing from the cash register. >> it basically looked like someone just literally walked out of their shift. i started kind of noticing a little bit more things. i looked in my register, looked for the money that goes in my register, it was gone and i looked in the deposit bag, they were all gone. >> harris: court records show that koenig filed for a protective order, but it was never ordered because she doesn't show up to court.

>> her family is offering at least $12,000 for developments for her safe return. in san diego, the u.s. navy dismissing sailors for hazing. some violence apparently caught on tape and peter doocy on the story from washington. >> reporter: am being battered following initiation, a young sailor went to the doctor and the doctor told the captain someone got beat up and eight have been dismissed from the navy. there was punch and horsing around, and says the man blacked out after being smoked and ended up bruised and also says when an incident like this happens, it's got to be taken care of. it goes contrary to our core values and the charges are pretty cut and drive to the navy, a zero tolerance policy against hazing. there's no quality video of one of the new discharged sailors that sos two men this blue calm flag wrestling in a

united states and congressional leaders and the state department, would fund them. fund those leaders and tell them what are you doing? we are allies and the agencies are basically not spy agencies they're democracy promoting agencies that help your own people get rid of the dictator that you are replacing, so there must be frank talk and lost, should be an address of the american public to explain that this is a very serious issue. >> harris: all right. i've read you have an idea there's like a two tier plan with the people who are now in charge in egypt and tell us more about that government and what you think their plans are? >> it's very simple. the government now is controlled by the ministry council of egypt and that ministry council used to receive the funding from the president of egypt, last regime. and now, the next government, which is going to receive the funding from the united states and from the international community, is basically going to tell the ministry, no more democracy ngo. and why? because those who form that government are the muslim government.

streets. that's a wrap on the fox trip around the world in 80 seconds. some animal rights activists are supporting a move at that could potentially allow horses to be slaughtered in the united states again. congress basically banned the practice several years ago, and this may sound puzzling, but they say that they're actually trying to prevent animal cruelty. doug mcelway reports. >> 70 horses confiscated for mid atlantic farms because of neglect. many emaciated before the rehabilitation at the rescue farm. their fate far better than hundreds of thousands of horses slaughtered in the u.s. for human consumption abroad and under pressure for animal rights groups and the domestic slaughter industry was effectively ended in 2007 when congress stopped funding for usda for horse slaughter houses and unexpected meat cannot be sold. it turned out to be a law of unintended consequences. >> what that meant, they were crammed into small trucks,

they were slipping and sliding in their own waste. crammed together with horses they didn't know, biting and kicking and trucked, a thousand miles or more to another country where they met the exact same fate. >> so last november, president obama quietly signed into law an agriculture spending bill at that restores the inspection process for horses for slaughter that opens the door for u.s. horses doors again and a movement that and the mal activists-- >> the fact that they're closer and rather than having them travel in such distances. at least a step in the right direction. >> after an onslaught of horse owners a number of state and local requirements have prohibitions remain in place and no request that the authority initiate the process for any horse slaughter operation in the united states at this time. what is needed now, many agree, is broader legislation.
