>> we begin this live hour with breaking news and a tough development in a story we have been following. you may recall susan powell the utah mom who vanished under very mysterious circumstances more than two years ago. now we are learning the two young children she left behind died in an explosion in their home. police in washington state say the little boys were living with susan's family. a social worker had just dropped the children off for a supervised visit with their dad josh powell. police say powell shoved that social worker out the door grabbed the children and anied inside the home. the social worker reportedly smelled gas and called for help. moments later the house blew up.

earlier this evening i spoke with fox news correspondent dan springer who has been following this tragedy. take a listen. all right. we are going to break away from that tape because we have an opportunity now to talk to david rose of our washington fox affiliate ktcq. he is with us live. you are outside of the powell home just now learning there have been movements at the scene moments ago. tell us about it. >> a short while ago they brought out the bodies of 7-year-old charles and 5-year-old braid den as well as the body of charles powell. they are not confirming thaerl ideas but the deputies are telling us they are fairly certain that is who they brought out. the explosion here in the neighborhood marred a beautiful sunday in the pacific northwest with a terrible crime. the sheriff even calling it an act of evil here today. neighbors still trying to get their thoughts wrapped around what happened here. many of them didn't even know

that josh powell was living in the house down there around the corner on the street there. the house is a shell tonight. it is burned out. there was a major explosion as you mentioned just seconds after the dps worker came to drop them off. we talked to neighbors sitting in the backyard above powell's house when it went off. one said it sounded like a sonic boom another thought it was an earthquake the other lady who followed the case of susan powell very closely and what has been going on with the powells was very upset to find out josh was living right down below her. she has young children and the fire, the flames came up just to the back part of her trees. she was disturbed to find out what happened here. many people here today upset about what they are calling a tragedy here. i know that a lot of the neighbors who have been able to talk to tonight and we are so glad that you are able to join us. david, tell us what the neighbors are saying and whether or not there was any sort of mood or telegraph can that this was going to happen?

>> some people might have thought based on what happened in court last week the judge ordering he get psycho sexual evaluation because of the child porn the detectives found from the house several miles from here that belonged to josh's father steven when they did the raid on the house last summer. steven powell is in jail tonight, in fact he is on suicide watch right now. detectives tell us that they notified him that his son josh powell and grand kids were dead he became verbally abusive but showed no other emotion but anger. josh's father is on suicide watch. i don't think anybody thought something like this would happen. i think people worried josh might do something. we are hearing out of salt lake city tonight from some of our sources there that the west valley city police department was getting very close or had already decided to go ahead and charge josh powell and the disappearance of his wife susanment we don't know exactly

what set him off but detectives are certain he planned this that he made sure it was a big explosion the fire burned fags and killed both he and his two sons. >> i didn't get to ask this, may not be able to answer it. in terms of the social worker that was there, was that person injured? when you look at the pictures the damage is extensive. >> the house is gone. it's a shell. you see the vehicle in the driveway but the whole part of it is just gutted. the social worker hadn't gotten back to her vehicle after dropping the kids off when she said she heard the explosion, smelled gas and heard the explosion. she dialled 911 right away but couldn't even get the 911 call in. we are told the social worker is very upset and is getting counseling. we have not spoken to the social worker nor do we know if it was the same social worker that has worked with the two young boys since the custody of them was given to susan's parents judy

>> a search underway in alaska for an 18-year-old believed to have been kidnapped from her job. they are looking for samantha koenig. they saw her at her job with a man who appeared to be armed and was likely to be a stranger. koenig supposed to close the shop wednesday night but when the co-worker got there the stand was abandoned and the money was missing from the cash register. >> it basically looked like someone just literally walk ted out of their shift. i started kind of noticing a little more things. i looked in my register. i looked for the money that goes in my register, it was gone. i looked in deposit bags they were all gone. >> koenig filed for a protective order against a man in november but the order was never issued because she didn't show up to court. her family offering 12,000 dollars in reward money for her

safe return. >> a developing story in san diego. the u.s. army is charging for hazing. some of it caught on tape. peter has the story from washington. >> after being battered aboard the ship following initiation the sailor went to an on board doctor the doctor told the captain someone got beat up now 8 have been discharged from the navy. there was punching and kicking and horsing around. the man blacked out after being choked and ended up bruised. he also said when an incident like this happens it has to be taken care of. it goes contrary to our core values. the dig charges are pretty cut and dry according to the navy. they have a zero tolerance policy against hazing. there is low quality video of the incident taken by one of the now discharged slierls that shows two men in blue camouflage vigorously wrestling each other
