her was definitely represented in the service today. the first tweet i sent out when i found out she was passed, was the lyrics "one moment in time," the song tha she did at the olympics. her finest days were ahead of her. give me one moment in time when i'm all that i thought i could be, when all of my dreams are heartbeat away. i think she not only embraced that as an artist but she shared that inspiration with the world not only had one moment in time but many moments in time and gave each of us opportunities to speak out. >> that is one of my favorite songs. for those who are just joining us, we just watched funeral services for whitney houston.
4:01 pm

4:02 pm
funeral service, going home service. telling him she was ready for a comeback. she was working not only her body but her voice trying to get her range back. she would be ready to go in august. >> that speaks to her strength, john, it speaks to her strength in her faith. she took time off to heal herself and to also spend time with her daughter. she didn't want bobbi kristina to be just the woman on stage. if you have christian faith, you know in your soul, that person has made peace with god. she, indeed, is in heaven. >> the incredible career of the whitney houston, six-time grammy winner, 170 million albums sold. she had most consecutive number one singles 2347 a row.
4:03 pm
the first female artist to enter the billboard chart number one, seven consecutive multiplatinum albums. she goes to rest today. >> it's very moving as we've been looking at these images and talking about the home going service which is very much a tradition in the black church celebrating the human spirit with the help of god. we were all witness in seeing, very special way from her roots in new jersey with all the people there and all the stars, family, friends and relatives who were joined in spirit. fabulous energy from that service today. >> dignified and spirited and boisterous. there goes the shot. we had one camera in that helicopter above the funeral

procession. the shot is back. one camera in the church, as well. i think it helped to the dignity of it. >> it was a compromise for the family because they wanted an intimate service, the fans wanted to be part of this. to have one camera in the church keeping rest of the fans further back from the church entrance. i think it was a good compromise there for the family who wanted to have as much privacy as possible. >> jon: she was featured in three films, bodyguard is best known, maybe preacher's wife, as well. but as kevin costner said some of the stories behind the making of that film. her concerns about being cast in it. questions whether she would be accepted by moviegoers, i think it's safe to say she was beloved by them.
4:05 pm
it's not often you see an entertainer of this caliber. she has had her demons in recent years, yes. she has had her problems but haven't we all. >> it was interesting the whole process of getting her to agree to commit to the film and fact that she thought she wasn't ready for such an enormous leap into the movies. yet, she talked very lovingly support can her and letting them know, she has what it takes to make it. that kind of story about the insecurities she was going through even at the height of her career where she was selling so many records and so many people around the world were just singing all praises to her about the work that she was doing and so many awards at the time. >> jon: it was in 1992 the bodyguard came out.

that was the year she married bobby brown, they had a 15-year marriage, a lot of thoughts both ways what the marriage to bobby brown did for whitney houston and for her career. it was part of her life. it resulted in the birth of their daughter, bobbi kristina. now after this four-hour service whitney houston is about to go home. kelly wright told us it is expected that the hearst will return to the funeral home where her body was prepared and then tomorrow it will actually be interred next to her father. >> furthering the tradition in the black church, close friends and family will gather at the houston family home and they will laugh and cry and remember whitney. they will celebrate. they will eat and nourish the soul.

they will stay there all night long, as long as they need to be there for the family. as long as the family needs them there. people will be there. surrounding to comfort them in their time of need. >> this is going to be something to behold. in november just a few short months ago, she wrapped a movie sparkle. she plays the mother of a young singing trio, jordan sparks of american idol fame. whitney houston is playing the mother, perhaps jordan i don't know enough about it. jordan's mom, she plays the maternal role in this film. there will be a whitney houston movie. one of can only imagine, when the movie is released. whitney houston fans will be swarming the theaters all over
4:08 pm
again. >> as you mentioned. she was really preparing and looking for the release of the movie. it was first time playing in a video. camera is moving around there a bit. we're trying to get our position fixed as the hearst pulls into the area where it will be this evening. >> i want to ask you in terms, what surprised you the most about the service? >> i would say, there wasn't anything that surprised me but one thing that sticks out in my might, pat houston, he is the sister in love married to gary, she spoke to cigs sy houston to assure her that cissy did everything she could as a mother to protect her child.
4:09 pm
she should rest assured there was nothing she could have done to let her know, in her final days remember everything she taught her in life and in faith. thank you for those reflections this and interesting afternoon. >> jon: a woman of her talent comes along over every few decades. after four hour ceremony, whitney houston, we say goodbye. thank you for joining us. i'm jon scott. >> we're going to take us take a break. have a good afternoon. eeeeeeeee!

part "d", raising the debt ceiling and numerous earmarks. look, michigan is being saturated with that information. santorum is leading there but only within the margin of error as within two polls, might this branding of santorum make a big difference? >> it made a difference it seems in iowa when homicidal turns his super pac went against newt gingrich. i think the attacks are partly legitimate and partly illegitimate. medicare part "d" prescription but on raising the debt ceiling, most people in congress did that. he is responsible for the massive increase of government when he was one of hundred senators is stretching it. >> gregg: gingrich is down in the polls in michigan, arizona

back in 1976. that he is when gerald ford eked out a win over ronald reagan and the democrats had a near miss back in 1984 when walter mondale barely won. but what actually happens if the gop goes to the nomination or the nominating convention in tampa this august without a nominee? is it possible what happens then? jehmu? >> well, i think conventional wisdom says that it's not going to happen, but i think looking at this field, this has been weak all along and many in the republican establishment probably saw how weak the field was very -- a long time ago. but if it does get to a brokered convention, it could actually be the best thing for republicans because i think mitt romney has, in the sense he's made his bed with all of these defines moments, from saying corporations are people, to saying he likes to fire people, to in his own state, saying that detroit should go bankrupt, he's
5:25 pm
made this bed and he's going to have to lay in it and it's not going to feel well in the general election for him and rick santorum, though he's seen a surge in recent weeks, now we're starting to see speeches that he made a few years ago that are really out of the main stream coming up. so if there is a brokered convention for the republican establishment, it could be the best out of a pretty bad situation with a weak field to begin with, they could come out with a stronger candidate. but it will be harder to beat president obama in the general. >> heather: jehmu, i know sometimes you join us on our power panel. and we were talking about taking things out of context, so i can't let you slide by there. you did take a couple of those things out of context. gretchen, what do you think? what about a brokered convention? >> i think it is possible. anything is possible. anyone who thinks they know what is going on with this political cycle right now doesn't know what they're talking about because everyone has been proven wrong so far. i think it's clear that romney has to win michigan and let's be
5:26 pm
frank, there isn't a jeremy lin type situation when it comes to presidential politics. there is an operation. there is an infrastructure that has to be put in place and to come out with this hail mary pass this day and age would be an overwhelming task that i just don't know if that is something someone can do. if anyone can do that. but there is a lot going on here and the president is coming out smelling like roses right now because instead of having an opponent, he's getting out there to talk about whatever he wants, while the republicans just fight each other for this nomination process. so if this goes all the way to the convention, the person that wins out of had is president obama. >> heather: here is another possibility. if no donald date has enough delegates, the nomination ends up up for grabs. no one has any idea who the delegates will be loyal to. the delegates who are initially bound to vote for specific candidates, they will then be released to vote for anyone.

at that point, anything could happen, including a dark horse candidate, like sarah palin, jeb bush, governor chris christie, governor mitch daniels winning the nomination. under party rules, anyone can be nominate fundamental a plurality of five state delegations approve. what if there is a dark horse candidate? gretchen, i'll let you take that one. >> the dark horse candidate would have a lot of energy. he would basically fill the vacuum and take up all the press and everything going on and he would be able to take that momentum into the next two months. but having said that, again, it goes back to an operation and putting in together an infrastructure and you have only two months after the convention until election day. so how are you going to run a campaign with ads, social media? i mean, it's just so much, so overwhelming that i just don't see how he gets an agenda together, how he gets a campaign and a strategy together and is able to or i should say she,
