1:12 pm
also adds that bailing out the financial industry as was done early on in the obama administration and quite frankly the latter days of the bush administration, that was wrong as well and mitt romney has been supportive of that and santorum has been doing something of a democrat appeal, put out a web page yesterday featuring a lot of blue collar stuff including auto working looking folks in at that particular ad, perhaps hoping to appeal to people, keep in mind, if you're registered to vote you can vote in either primary. >> the rules of each one, makes it so interesting. steve brown from troy, michigan, for you, don't forget, most of you know, fox news is the number one source, really the place to be for the election coverage, every issue looked at every state. and tune in for the best of the arizona and michigan races all day hosted by bret baier and megyn kelly and don't

that will effect both the president and g.o.p. candidates? moments ago we did hear from the president, there you have the republican response, let's get both sides fair and balanced. political analyst angela mcglowan joining us and former clinton pollster, and fox news distributor. >> great to see you. >> we're lucky we live in a city and we can take mass transit. but too many places filling up gas tanks, more than $5 a gallon. the president says he's going to do an all-strategies approach here, everything's on the table, but gas prices can be tied to lack of consumer confidence, lack of consumer spending. could we lose all the advances, what little there were, so far in the economy over this one issue of gas prices? >> i think in a word, jamie, absolutely. look, the president sees the greatest risk to reelection now coming from gas prices, not republicans. the republicans feel that we've been suggesting all day, is really hopelessly divided,
1:21 pm
but bottom line, we could have inflation, we could have an onset of a double dip recession, we could have the summer driving season it turn into a real disaster. all that have would spell, doom and gloom for a president who's been on the up swing and the decided upswing lately. >> okay, you're a democrat. i'm going to come back and ask you what you think the president must do about this. >> sure. >> but angela, we will say that the president says there's no silver bullet, takes time. he's addressing it in every way that he can, not as much drilling as the g.o.p. wants. i want to ask you about what the republican position on drilling. do they see that as the cure to bringing down the prices? how do we get our dependence on foreign oil down across the aisle? >> well, the president is right. there's no short-term fix. however, drilling in anwar would assist and also create jobs. it would assist us in not being dependent on foreign oil.
1:22 pm
also, exploration off shore. as you heard kay bailey hutchinson say that exploration permits have gone down, not increased. and the keystone pipeline. this is the first time in washington d.c. i've actually seen unions, and ultra conservatives be on the same team. and if we allow that pipeline to be built and get oil from canada, that would increase jobs and decrease our dependency on foreign oil. mitt romney has a very good plan, jamie. obama went to war on oil and coal. right when he started his presidency. so, if we have a mitt romney president, not only will he relax regulation, which actual actually strangles us and he'll give more research and development with clean coal technology and biofuel and also allow us to drill in anwar. >> jamie: let me wrap up your thought for a second and i'll come back to you. but, does the president-- how much patience do you think

voters will have on the issues of gas prices? it seems to me to be the one issue that hits them in the pocket book, especially if if they have to get to a job interview and to school and affects us in our everyday life. is there something else he can do? >> yes, politics, when you move past the talking points and the rhetoric, the president knows that he doesn't have a lot of credibility on the issues so he's going to do two things, one outline as he did today in the state of the union, his all of the above policy. he knows it's not going to work, because people are exactly as you discussed, jamie, they're frustrated, nervous and impacts their daily lives. but he's made speeches at alternative energy plant and he obviously is aware of what the alternatives are. >> he knows the alternatives and knows it's not a quick fix. what the response is going to be is negative politics. >> jamie: okay. >> but jamie. >> he's going to attack the dollar policies and say that the republicans are equally unable to do what they he

♪ >> we have some pretty troubling numbers on the country's economic situation. it's a shocking new report from the ranking member of the senate budget committee and it's to pay down the massive u.s. debt we have right now and it goes up by the minute. we would have to each kick in nearly $45,000. and that's more than any other-- any other nation in europe, and even includes greece which is why we wanted to talk about it with a fox business contributor and you can tell i'm stumbling, $45,000 is more than a lot of people in this country dream of making, let alone take home. if we had to pay our fair share, that's what it is. were you surprised? >> quite surprised and even more surprising, if nothing's done about the budget since

2020. it's going to be $75,000 per person. the last ten years we've had all of these politicians on purpose spending money out of hand and unfortunately, they're spending our money and this is we're out with 15 trillion dollars in deficit and the only thing lucky about it our bond market and interest rates have not reacted to it if they ever do, we will be greece. >> jamie: worse than greece, how did we get here. do you think we can do anything to turn it around? >> yeah, we, as americans have to make the people that are doing the spending more accountable or else we've got to get them out of washington d.c. just remember, all this spending emanates from one place and we just keep electing the same people over and over again who keep doing the same thing over and over again. they keep blaming everybody else for it and if you're one of the people who really want to do something about it, you're called an extremist and that you don't care about the poor and downtrodden. we've got to turn this backwards and go the other way
