and detroit free press, shows santorum up. you said a 5 point slide that's true, since the debought, but go back a week earlier when santorum was in the lead. the gallup daily tracking pole, a so point lead. you could say in a week's time, you could say ten point slip, but people say it's the debate that started the downward spiral thing. he says he's being candid with how things work in washington. he said something provocative and interesting and comparing president obama comparing his vision for the young people with what santorum believes young people should do and this is about education. >> the president of the united states said the other day that every child in america should go to school, what a snob. about them. >> dave: about the gas prices? >> about the gas prices. you're amazed how many people think it will hit $5. >> dave: some are thinking 6. another thing that rick santorum said that raised eyebrows, look at mitt romney and the consistent criticism he's wealthy, out of touch. he's elite. and rick santorum flipped that around on saturday. listen to what he called mitt romney and alluded to his campaign. >> it is laughable to have a liberal governor of massachusetts and-- we have a republican running for president, campaigning that's occupy wall street-- >> so, occupy wall street, the 99% against the 1%. romney is often knocked as that very 1%. >> clayton: so now romney is now the 99%. >> dave: he is the 99 and again, i think what rick santorum is talking about is

romney's tax plan specifically capital gains rate and romney's plan strictly benefits those in the middle class making below $200,000 a year, that's where his cut off is, well below that of most on the right. >> clayton: i'm surprised he went with that tactic and others saying, well, why didn't rick santorum hit mitt romney on the tax loophole issue and he hasn't outlined. when he's been pressed on exactly what looploopholes, the campaign didn't can't aner. >> alisyn: it's hard to imagine mitt romney erecting a tent during the the rain and carrying a picket-- it's probably the capital gains thing. meanwhile, romney went after santorum, back to the debate issue where you'll remember santorum said, look, sometimes on capitol hill and politics you have to take one for the team. here is romney. >> senator santorum said

something that i think jarred a lot of people. he said he voted for something he didn't agree with, because now and then you have to take one for the team in washington. and i thought, no, it's about time we have someone that goes to washington, that it takes one for the american people and not for the partisan team. >> this took place yesterday in michigan. and mitt romney, popped into a tea party rally with a thousand tea party folks and rick santorum went first, said that romney's disqualified on this and disqualified on that and romney hitting him on the take one for the team. >> dave: and both candidates getting standing ovations, let's not forget about newt gingrich as many time's we count him out, he's back. and super tuesday is an opportunity to get back in the the race. and his issue now, gas prices,

saying he can lower gas to 2.50. >> a bold promise. >> clayton: i think michele bachmann said under $2 she could get it down to. that's the national average for a gallon of gas. 3.69 and $4 in some parts of the country and though the new rasmussen poll that alisyn was talking about is fascinating. >> 55% of americans do believe that gas will hit $5 a gallon. we're not that far away from it, in fact, in california in some places near l.a. it has done that. so, it just shows that people are not feeling optimistic that gas prices are going down and some percentage thinks it will hit $6 a gallon in the future. now is the right time, oinl, for newt gingrich to go after gas prices and that's exactly what he did. >> you could think of gasoline prices when you fill up your car as the obama tax and he gets letters every day and pull some to read and happened to read some.

init tell against officer who is the prime suspect for killing an n.a.t.o. american worker and now we're pulling our workers out, in terms of the n.a.t.o. mission there. does this underscore the fact that an apology may have been a mistake? >> yes, absolutely. and actually the statement made by the taliban is very important in this case, they said we are responsible, now we don't know if he's a member or not of the taliban. it's not just a michigan of koran burning for two reasons, number one if that incident occurred, accident had occurred in 99% muslim you wouldn't have the same results. the and another example if it happened in saudi arabia, the most islamic regime on earth, the government wouldn't allow it to happen. every time there's an incident like this one. threatening to burn the koran in florida or the guantanamo incident, it happened in afghanistan by the taliban and

those behind the reactions are basically the network of jihadists and taliban who want to push our forces out. >> what should the administration have done. a similar incident happened under gush gush administration and apologized to try to tamp down the fears there, what should the obama administration have done to try to quiet this? >> he when the administration, any administration will begin by apologizing and not doing something else, it's going to lead to another apology and encourage the taliban at the next incident to do the same and actually achieve their goals. what we have failed in doing is to have partnered with social forces on the ground. keep in mind those on the streets and doing the violence are not doing it on their own, they're organized, this is a network. what we don't have is an arab spring network of moderates, people within civil society who'd go against the taliban and stop them from doing it. >> alisyn: we have to change gears here and talk about what happened in pakistan. the compound where usama bin

laden had been hiding out and in fact was found and killed was demolished, knocked down. is that an important significant symbol? >> yes, absolutely. what's happening in pakistan is that the government, the civilian secular government is under tremendous pressure. first, by the military in pakistan who did not like what has happened, but also by the taliban and islamic forces in pakistan who accuses the government, basically of being in league with the united states. so, the government has to show some symbolic act, including, for example, destroying that place, but it at the same time, this has consequences, it means that there will be nobody to go in the future to that place and celebrate or create some sort of political opposition to the government as well. >> there's been a lot of focus of course on-- there was a lot of focus of course on libya and united states involvement. the n.a.t.o. involvement to topple that regime or at least prevent the blood bath unfolding in benghazi. what's the difference between

libya and syria and violence in the city of homs and slaughtered by regime there. does n.a.t.o. get involved? should they get involved? what's the difference? >> as in libya and even more in syria, we are so late. if we had intervened or create that had coalition we're now moving to out of tunisia or turkey, things would have been different, but realizes election year, no u.s. president, that's what he thinks, is going to lead a massive intervention in another country, including in syria. that wasn't the case last year in libya. besides the syrian regime is supported by strong force from the ground in middle east, by hezbollah in lebanon, by iranian regime and by those iraqis who are pro iranians, so, he believes he can do what he is doing, as long as the united states has not made a decision to create a coalition and go after him. >> we're not even hearing it on the g.o.p. campaign trail. i just want to ask you one last question about the koran burning situation, and the

apology, where has it gotten us as a country and where has it gotten president obama. when you look at the time line, since the apology things have gotten worse. where does it get us? >> you look at the whole region and the speeches that began this presidency, including in cairo, for example, basically an apology for previous american policies in the region and you see that iran now is in control of iraq, linking up with hezbollah in lebanon and islamic religions in libya and extreme group in tunisia. what's happening in the region, because of the policy of apology. the radicals are winning at the end of the day. >> walid phares, great to see you this morning, thanks for helping us out with a number of big topics out of the middle east. >> great to talk to you. >> thank you. >> let's get to your headlines and we begin with a fox news alert. in fact, there as been a deadly suicide bombing, outside of a church in lagos

of this. joining us to weigh in is the executive editor of the daily caller, david, great to have you here this morning. >> oh, thanks so much. >> so, you guys got your hands on what you believe is this accidental post. and basically suggesting that the united auto workers union is behind this plan to train 100,000 people to further the occupy protests. tell us what you make of this. >> well, in the beginning of april, starting on april 9th there's going to be a national movement called the 99% spring and the idea behind it as you said is to train 100,000 left wing activists and this in an election year you have to wonder what the point is if not to elect the president. while the united auto workers, rather, is saying that they're part this have coalition, they're organizing and spearheading it, their talking points and social media plans and boiler plate letters that

they want the other coalition member groups to put their names on. the kind of stuff you put together if you're actually leading a movement not just participating in it. >> sure, we called the uaw to get their response to all of this. we did not get a return call. >> neither do we. >> alisyn: yeah, interesting. here is what we found on their website, this is on a new website, the 99 springs website and wrote a letter to america, from april 9th to the 15th. we will gather across america, 100,000 strong, in homes, places of worship, campuses and the streets to join together in the work of reclaiming our country. so, that sounds like it's underway. >> well, it certainly is. and you have to understand that at this point, in a lot of cities across america where we've had these occupiers, capping out in the tent skis, the police roused most of them and plazas are now empty. i think the people behind the movement have incentive to gin it up again. and what's next, we'll report

on it, the daily collar, there's a movement to jump start this. and ben and jerry of ice cream fame are spearheading this and a plan to put 1.7 million dollars behind the occupy movement by the end of the year. and so, i think what you're seeing is the occupy movement being leveraged as a political tool now to reelect the president. and this 100,000 people being trained in what they're calling nonviolent direct action is just the opening gun. you're going to see ben and jerry involved. there's another group you may have seen that wants to have a national occupy convention in philadelphia. he so, this is going to be the year of the occupy, getting involved in politics with a large p as we get closer to november. >> well, david, thanks soch for previewing all of it and sharing the information that you got. it should be interesting to see what happens this spring. >> alisyn, thank you so much for having me. >> alisyn: our pleasure.

and he needed to solidify his blue collar credentials and he did end up slipping in the polls and this is the latest tracking poll. >> this is the daily tracking poll and that's an interesting take and how people are feeling at that exact moment and he's now within one interpoint of mitt romney and that's a ten, nine point slide. he was tn points ahead of mitt romney just one week ago until after the debate performance, it's now neck and neck and you can see it's there within the margin of error. >> it's interesting because you look at that and you say, all right, romney is headed up. santorum down, as he dispatched another g.o.p. rival? not so fast. if you read all the inside political news, they're saying that romney's camp is bracing for a campaign that will run through may and perhaps go all the way and santorum and newt gingrich clearly far from out of this thing and tuesday will be a battle. but a new line coming from rick santorum on saturday. one that i think that newt gingrich has set before. calling out the president and

something he's said regarding education. listen. >> the president of the united states said the other day that every child of america should go to school. what a snob. president is faring against the two frontrunners at the moment. when you you match up president obama and mitt romney, president obama leads there by three points, i believe in the margin of error and against santorum, he leads by five points at the moment. outside of the margin of error and scott rasmussen is going to be on shortly to talk about all of the latest polls. >> something that the santorum campaign has been talking about, although it's been funny, because the romney campaign's firing back and saying there's no evidence at all and there isn't any evidence of this, that somehow, mitt romney and ron paul are teaming up like the dynamic duo, wonder twins power activate. >> dave: wow, speaking of slowbacks. >> clayton: that's a comic book reference for you. but ron paul responding to rick santorum's claims that he's basically his wing man. >> i think senator santorum is sort of desperate right now because i think he was exposed in the last debate on where, you know, he really wasn't the conservative he was pretending

police intelligence officer, where has that apology from president obama and from the military gotten us as a country. gotten the president as a world leader? >> well, i think it continues to demonstrate that this white house, really has no concept of an overall strategy in the war of ideas. i mean, listen, we should have had in the area, leader, a general say, this is a mistake and maybe on the field, apologize, but for the president on behalf of the american people to send a letter and apologize, i tell you, me as a muslim, we don't need to apologize. when has the organization of islamic cooperation countries apologize for the burning of churches and the killing of christians in iran and saudi arabia? we have nothing to apologize for. if we're going to win the war of ideas on the ground and strategy, we need liberty doctrine that defends the luz mims that are not the taliban. it's veiled bigotry to say at that he we muslims need to apologize and we might be

thorn in the side of any president and 3.69 a gallon right now, that's the average, it's $4 out in that neck of the woods where we were talking about the polar bear plunge. the president on the saturday morning address, said there is no silver bullet for actually lowering gas prices and he says the g.o.p. just wants to drill. listen. >> wait for it, it's going to be good. >> alisyn: now, listen. no. >> dave: we were going to build your anticipation, but basically it's quite simple. the president says you cannot drill your way to lower gas prices. and there's truth in both sides of this argument. no, it's not immediate in terms if you drill now, you bring down the price now, but if you look at actions taken during the the bush administration, the drilling permits he opened up, they did eventually lower gas prices. >> alisyn: listen to this. >> now, some politicians always see this as a political opportunity. and since it's an election year, they're already dusting

off their same three-point plan for $2 gas. i'll save you the suspense. step one according to them is drilling. step two is drilling and step three is to keep drilling. look, we know there's no silver bullet to bring down gas prices or reduce our dependence on foreign oil overnight. >> alisyn: obviously it' complicated. if there were a magic trick, any politician would use it it's complicated, however, newt gingrich, who, as you know, is man of big ideas. he has like a five-part plan, you can watch it online and he has actually a 30 minute video on his website, devoted how to bring down gas prices and he spells it out. increase domestic oil and gas production, sign off on keystone pipeline, cut epa and regulations and yes, he does say drill more, take a listen. >> the presidential pen could today sign approval of the keystone pipeline. that's 700,000 barrels a day.

the presidential pen could today sign approval to go back to the gulf of mexico, that's about 400,000 barrels a day. the presidential pen could today approve areas of alaska that we know have oil. that's about a million, 200,000 barrels a day. in three signatures you would have 2.3 million barrels a day of additional energy in the united states. three signatures. so, i would say, we're not looking for silver bullets. we're looking for presidential leadership. >> smart play by newt. of course the left would counter with this argument. there is more domestic production now than there was the last eight years, that includes the final years of the bush administration. of course, a lot of that is because president bush opened up new drilling permits. this battle we have not seen the end of it. >> clayton: and we have the drilling permits that used to take a certain number of months now a year and a half to get approved in the gulf. the epa. >> frustrating. >> clayton: let's talk about

hillary clinton, she's on an important actual mission right now over to the middle east. she's in tunisia, hitting a number of different countries, reminding those countries about the arab spring and she was warning them, look, do not slip back into the mess that you were in. democracy is starting to take hold here, but he she didn't miss an opportunity to talk about the u.s. election in a way, when referring to what is going on back home. take a listen. see if you can pars this out. >> if you go to the united states, you see everywhere, muslim americans everywhere, that's the fact. so would i not pay attention to the rhetoric. watch what president obama says and does. he's our president and represents all of the united states and he will be reelected president, so i think that that will be a very clear signal to the entire world as to what our values are. i think, you know, you have to shut out some of the rhetoric and just focus on, you know, what we're doing and what we

stand for and particularly, what our president represents. >> alisyn: just a little bit more background. she was speaking there to students. a town hall meeting of students and one student got up and said, how comes it seems your presidential candidates are so pro israel, maybe implying anti-arab or anti-muslim. so that was her response. basically ignore what you hear on the campaign trail, that's not really how we lead. >> clayton: interesting. and obviously, it comes against the back drop of course of the koran burning in afghanistan and that koran burning put on hold another apology that was set to take place in pakistan for the 25 soldiers who were inadvertently killed a few months ago. there was another apology set to take place before the koran burning took place. so, you're hearing it from the g.o.p. out on the trail and she's reflecting some of at that sentiment there. >> dave: and the times in which we live. mitt romney finally getting that boost in the polls he was looking for, but can he keep the momentum through tuesday? chris wallace, anchor of fox

>> good to be here. it looks like it's been a good week for mitt romney from the debate earlier this week. the poll numbers at that weren't seemingly favorable for him earlier in the wook now look to be pretty good. here is the most recent rasmussen poll. 40% of folks now saying in michigan to rick santorum's 34%. what do you make of this? >> well, when you spend millions of dollars in negative ads and you have a sharp, very aggressive debate, and also, i think, romney had some inherited advantages and took a while for him to take advantage of them, but the fact that this is his home state. that there is a liaoed of goodwill towards the romney family. his father was the three-term governor. i will say that the rasmussen poll is a little bit after outliar, the real clear politics average of recent polls has romney up by about a point 1/2 so he certainly closed the deficit he had, but well within the margin of error in most of the polls. >> clayton: excuse me, and the detroit free press has santorum up.

>> alisyn: and yet, chris, some people thought there was a faux pas this past week where he overbooked or booked the stadium and then the crowd that he gathered was minuscule compared to the field. >> ford field. >> alisyn: but, also, once again made a reference to his wealth where he said and my wife, she's got two cadillacs, and let me show you what ann romney, his wife has said in response to that now. >> maybe i should do all the talking and let him just stand here and watch me. i've also decided no more debates. if we're going to do a debate he's going to sit in the audience and watch me and that will be it. >> alisyn: does it sound like she's a little frustrating of the criticism of her husband? >> no, i think maybe she's just kidding. we have to point out. he was standing right next to her at the time. she wasn't taking a real dig at him. he's had slip-ups and you know, the ford field thing,

you just shake your head at. because, if there's one thing you learn in this business, even as a reporter covering it, is that advance work, 101, you want a smaller room that's overflowing, rather than a big room that's 9/10 empty. so, whoever scheduled that, i know the romney campaign says it was the detroit economic club, but, still, i'm shocked that the romney campaign allowed their candidate to be in that situation, and it flunked advance work 101. >> clayton: dave knows the size of it. 65,000 seats and taylor swift 50,000 to fill that thing. >> with all due respect to governor romney, he's no taylor swift. >> dave: ann romney could help, she's been through ms, and she can-- >> let's face it, she is he' got an easier job, and she just has to be who she is, a wonderful attractive, charming

woman. she doesn't have to sit there and take positions or answer for what her policies were running against ted kennedy in 94, running for governor of massachusetts in 2002. but, i think she's a huge asset to the campaign because i think that to the degree that people see romney in a two dimensional way, you know, she humanizes him. she softens some of the edges and also, i mean, having been around the two of them, it's a real love affair and i think he's just a better candidate when she's around. >> clayton: you have a big show today. speaking of mitt romney, he'll be on your show of course headed into the big primary on tuesday and plus, governor mitch daniels who is in that conference, says, no, i'm the not running for president. you keep asking me and i'm flattered, but i'm not doing it. >> if we could have one question, rick santorum says that mitt romney is running as an occupier. that's one thing i love to hear his take on. >> well, guess what? we'll ask him. >> your wish is his command. >> and that's basically what

highest levels in the country. nearing $5 a gallon. if you can believe that. the president says that all that republicans want to do is drill, drill, drill. what's your response? >> it's the republicans have been advocating all or above approach for severalors now and find it it interesting, the president saying he supports an all of the above approach. taking credit for a record amount of oil, exploration and development here in america. the detail though, it's been on private land and state land. not on federal land and yet, he's wanting to take credit for that. what we need is to start saying yes to american energy across the board. whether it's oil, natural gas, wind, solar, hydro power, nuclear, we need more american energy and that would do, that would just be so great in bringing down gas prices, it would be great for economic development, and it would also reduce our dependence on oil

>> i started doing movie reviews for a local radio station about six years ago, in early 2006. and they wanted me to do something for a while and so they offered movie reviews and i went with it and then about a year later, started up the website, lights, camera jackson.com and i've been doing reviews for a local tv station near where i live in upstate new york for the past three and a half years. >> unbelievable. >> let's dive into the best picture nominees tonight. the big question, whether or not of these ten films which one will come home the big winner and your prediction this year for best picture? >> "the artist", this is the best film of the year. it's beautiful. it's sweet, it's emotional. it's funny, it's wonderful. it's the best film in 2011 and i think it should and definitely will win the best picture oscar, i love "the artist". you've seen the best pictures? >> i saw the nine nominees before the the nominations came out this year which i was personally proud of. >> and you're 13. some are rated r.

how did you do that? >> yeah, i mean, my father and i look up which ones are rated r and their reasoning behind them. only one actually in in category this year is the descendents, a great film and great i was able to see them. i don't review the hangovers or the bridesmaids or the girl with the dragon tattoo. >> and george clooney you picked as best actor. this is a surprise, a lot of actors up for great actor, why george clooney in year? >> this is a believable and relatable performance. i think it's clooney's time to finally win a best actor as course and i like john des jardins for the artist, but george clooney. your best actress pick? >> viola davis for "the help", she's won many awards throughout the season. i think it's her year, if not, meryl streep could possibly win for "the iron lady" she was my pick for who should win in this category. i think that meryl streep was

tracking poll. and, they've shown that he has -- the margin has really narrowed, obviously within the margin of error now, rick santorum, 31%, mitt romney, 30% and newt gingrich 16% and ron paul, 37%. >> dave: it is about direction, in the last week, a five-point slide, mitt romney up 3 and santorum down 2 and a week before that, it is a ten-point slide for santorum. and, another g.o.p. rival, has kind of fallen off the mat against mitt romney? not so fast, you mentioned michigan, the real clear politics average has a tie for those two. >> clayton: i keep mentioning but the free press has rick santorum up and they are all over the map. it is interesting. president obama, you recall, in his state of the union address talked about education, he has since then talked about education, and, every american family should have the opportunity to have a child go to college. or every member of that family have an opportunity to go to college, and -- in some capacity

or another. rick santorum took umbrage with that on the campaign trail. take a listen: >> the president of the united states the other day said every child in america should go to school. what a snob. [applause]. >> when i mean school, i mean college, every member should go to college. not every child in america should go to college. not every child in america needs to go to college. [applause]. >> why, because they have different gifts. why? because, why does obama want everybody to go to college, so his liberal college professors can be indoctrinating people like he was when he was in college. >> alisyn: look, a fascinating conversation to have, whether or not college this is right route for every, single kid and, particularly if you are going to take out college loans and have a crew -- accrue a massive debt

and i remember in college there were a lot of kids who were focused on beer-drinking and i don't think they applied their degree, afterwards. >> clayton: we have had a story about -- didn't we talk about this a year-and-a-half ago on the show, about the value of a college education? look, i don't think we discount the value, but the ratio, the amount of money families are now facing with debt and obviously the burden of it. >> alisyn: is it worth it? >> clayton: does the college degree equal the debt that that family is carrying. >> alisyn: for every kid. but, of course, you want every kid to have the opportunity. >> dave: right, my read of what the president was saying is one year of post high school education, or training. whether a technical school or whatever it may be. nationally, let's look at where the president lies, against his g.o.p. rivals. be it santorum, romney, here, you see, mitt romney, very close race, three-point discrepancy, five points, and, both around the margin of error from rasmussen reports, the national outlook, i want to mention a race, not the g.o.p. race, the

daytona 500, rick santorum, the car he's sponsoring, number 26, tony raines' car and you will see mitt romney appearing at daytona. >> clayton: and rick santorum says he's pulling for the underdog driving, a met for there and you brought up mitt romney. he'll be down there and according to the analysts wants to be in front of the national tv audience, a good opportunity to be down there. following michigan and what has been happening in michigan. >> alisyn: you remember he caught flak for talking in michigan, about how much he likes cars, he has so many cars, in fact his wife, ann has two different cadillacs, and, some people, the d. n. c. seized on that and said, he's striking the wrong chord and sounds like ann romney thinks she could help him out a little bit. >> maybe i should just do all the talking and let him stand here and watch me. [laughter]. >> i've also decided, no more

debates, if we do another debate, he's going to sit in the audience and watch me, and that will be it! >> clayton: deflecting some of the... >> alisyn: that is a funny joke, i think speaks to the fact, that she is frustrated, sitting on the sidelines and listening to her husband being attacked, with his jokes and stuff like that. >> dave: she's an asset for him, clearly. having gone through ms and breast cancer, very relatable on the campaign trail. >> alisyn: let's get to your headlines, we have a lot of news, particularly in afghanistan. the violence is still on the rise, there, over the accidental koran-burnings and reports this morning that even more americans have been injured. this as nato orders hundreds of international advisors out of afghan ministries, after two u.s. military advisors worked until yesterday. they were shot to death at the interior ministry, in kabul, and the taliban is taking responsibility for that attack. for the past five days, thousands of people have taken to the streets in pro at thises of the accidental koran burn,

more than two dozen have been killed including two u.s. soldiers. the site of the courageous navy s.e.a.l. raid where usama bin laden was killed will soon no longer exist. pakistan without any notice, yesterday, started to demolish the compound in ashand it is be he lived at the compound for several years and many still want to know how the leaders of the country claimed they never knew he was there. nelson mandela is out of the hospital, the former south african president was hospitalized yesterday for a longstanding stomach issue and, the anti-apartheid icon had a procedure done and he's said to be doing okay. the 93-year-old was also hospitalized, last year for a respiratory infectious and he became south africa's first black president in 1994. and caught on camera, not only is it a dolphin sighting but a stampede! captured off the southern california coast from a dolphin

and whale-watching boat. imagine being one of those lucky tour is. it is believed to be about 2,000 dolphins swimming by, and is much more than a usual cluster which averages 12, and no surprise, it is making waves on-line. is that called recycling the jokes. >> clayton: no, not at all. the company must be thrilled. >> alisyn: great stuff. >> dave: usually you do those and you want your money back. >> clayton: whale watching... and they tell you ahead of time, well, we may see a whale. maybe not. >> dave: maybe not. though i think it is... >> rick: though it is this time of year, seeing them, this time of year, big storm, the storm tuesday and wednesday across the central part of the country, that is where it is now and it will dive to the southwest first and tuesday, big election day in arizona, we'll feel effects from the storm, mostly across the eastern part of the state and into the north, where the mountains are, a little bit of snow, still, at least the start of the day.

across the higher elevations and a cooler day, than typical, but, plenty of sunshine down across the south. michigan, on the other hand, will get the same storm, later in the day, we will see snow flurries across north michigan and northern part of lower michigan and into the u.p., at least to start the day and by the end of the day, maybe making its way toward the detroit area as well. all right, everybody watching, the daytona 500, you see the big batch of rain, across florida and north of daytona, by the time we get towards race time we have rain in the forecast and are probably at around 1:00, 2:00, we'll see a big batch of rain, and i think we'll see delays, in the race, at least, parts of the day, hopefully by the afternoon, will be able to get... unfortunately, rain is in the forecast for much of the day today. temps look like this and everybody looking good. get ready, the northeast, a see-saw, we warm up again, tomorrow in the 50s, and we'll cool down again, next thursday and back up again, by next weekend. see-saw pattern continues. >> alisyn: that is confusing to my closet.

>> clayton: it is. hillary clinton, right now, on an interesting mission, going over to the middle east. hitting up a number of countries, tunisia, morocco, mauratania, to name a few, talking about the arab spring, reminding the countries not to slip backwards now that democracy is taking hold. she was speaking in front of a group of students and something interesting happened. >> dave: it sounds like she takes a shot at those running for the g.o.p. nomination. listen: >> if you go to the united states, you see mosques everywhere, muslim-americans everywhere. that is a fact. so, i would not pay attention to the rhetoric. watch what president obama says and does. he's our president. he represents all of the united states and he will be reelected president. so i think that that will be a very clear signal to the entire world as to what our values are. i think, you know, you have to shut out some of the rhetoric and focus on what we're doing

good morning to you. >> good morning. >> dave: what do you think of the characterization from jeb bush? >> it looks like we can throw jeb bush's hat in the ring along with sarah palin, hoping to be chosen as the nominee after a contested convention. but, you know, as we saw with rick perry there is a point to seeing these people in a debate. >> alisyn: what do you mean? why do you think him saying that means that he is gearing up? >> i don't think it is helpful -- the primary is going on this long with the candidates who are actually in the race, attacking one another, we certainly don't need the peanut gallery throwing shots as well. and, i think on closer examination, jeb bush would be the worst of all candidates to run, for one thing, we don't need another bush. that would be embarrassing to the republican party but also he's more pro- amnesty for

illegals than his brother was, again, pro rick perry and the idea of a brokered or contested convention where a mystery candidate will emerge. and that means a candidate who has not been vetted, like jeb bush. >> clayton: does he bring up a good point as it relates to independence, playing to fears will drive the candidates, mitt romney or, rick santorum, away from the independent vote by playing to the fears, did he bring up a good point or is he wrong there? >> it is important to appeal to the independents, certainly as i've described, ronald reagan did. we will not win by getting only the people who voted for john mccain. so, yeah, we need moderates and my gender and independents. but i don't know what means by playing to fears. when i make the point i have specific criticisms and we shouldn't be prattling nonstop about contraception in the middle of an economic melt down and i don't think we need a candidate who proposes child

janitors and turns arenas and opposes worker requirements in the welfare reform. that is newt gingrich. you need an appealing candidate but swerve positions are appealing and the more conservative a candidate is, the better off you are, which is why i support mitt romney. >> dave: speaking of conservative positions, rick santorum said something about mitt romney on saturday i certainly haven't heard and might surprise you. listen. i want your reaction: >> it is absolutely laughable to have a liberal governor of massachusetts... we have a republican running for president, and campaigning as an occupy wall street adherent. >> dave: mitt romney campaigning as an occupier. your thoughts? >> i think both newt gingrich and rick santorum do not serve themselves well by going on these attacks -- for one thing, the probable nominee and also, just a fellow candidate, one

thing i liked about mitt romney in these debates is that from the beginning, even when he was asked to attack, fellow candidates on the stage, for example, rick perry's instate tuition program and jon huntsman's drivers license for illegal program, mitt romney resisted the impulse, the request, that he attack his fellow candidates and he stayed focused on attacking the real -- real opponents here, which is president obama. and he has done that over and over again and i think rick santorum is starting to sound whiney, especially, most recently, the nonsense about ho he thinks ron paul will have a secret agreement, with mitt romney. no, of course ron paul likes mitt romney, more than professional politicians... >> alisyn: let me ask you about that. is there a secret conspiracy, where they are in cahoots and ron paul will never go after mitt romney in a debate? >> no, i mean, it seems perfectly obvious to me why ron paul would prefer someone who made something of himself,

outside of government. and, i think back to 2008 when john mccain and huckabee were against mitt romney and how whine is it would have sounded for mitt romney to claim they had a secret agreement. >> clayton: and before i let you go, the arizona republic reporting this morning governor jan brewer about to endorse gordon mitt romney down there in arizona. your thoughts -- governor mitt romney in arizona. >> it doesn't surprise me, he has the strongest position on illegal immigration and that is this second most important issue facing the country after repealing obamacare. if you look at a state like california, once elected nixon and reagan as governors, and, many other great republicans statewide, a republican cannot win statewide in california anymore because they are in the forefront of immigration and illegal immigration and sticking around long enough and becoming citizens, will be the entire nation and if we don't stop illegal immigration, no republican will ever win another national election. >> alisyn: all right, ann, ann coulter, thanks for being with

quickly as we'd like, it will be the first time since 1990, a christian pastor has been executed, why? because it is not -- goes against the constitution to execute someone for having another faith and what is interesting about this, since 2009, when he went to the school of his children and said, hey, listen, in the constitution, they are supposed to be -- there is supposed to be freedom of religion, why are you making my children be taught islam? and that was the moment in which they got serious and put him in jail and it went to the supreme court and, recently, the supreme court, with all of the international outrage, but it back to lower court and said it is up to you guys to look at the procedures of the original trial and, putting a provision in there, this is interesting, the provision was, if you recant your faith you are off the hook. in other words, they don't want to execute him, but we've seen

recently, the white house, thanks be to god, the state department speaking out, must have clear information that this is very serious. >> clayton: what could happen, actually, if it goes forward? talk about a region that is already aflame. what would it do? to other christians currently living there? >> it is hard to imagine anything worse than, for example, saying, that they are interested in eradicating israel, right? they said pretty wild things, so, this is one more thing, but when there is this much international pressure of a human right, that is so clear as religious liberty. this is where we have to say, pressure has to be put on, we have to make sure they stand up and recognize what they are doing goes against human reason. >> alisyn: but, by the samic to -- token, we had a person on yesterday, saying, when things reach a fever pitch, they do it just to thumb their nose at the

the weekend drive, $3.69 for a gallon of gasoline, the national average, right now. >> alisyn: by the way, much higher in lots of places, through people in california, who wish they were paying, 3.69. and, you know, obviously, pocketbook issues, so many people vote on, what the gas prices will be, come the election day, and, president obama has said that he doesn't believe that the solution is to drill. take a listen to what he said. >> president barack obama: now, some politicians, always see this as a political opportunity. and since it is an election year, they are dusting off their same three-point plan for $2 gas, i'll save you the suspense. step one, according to them, is drill. step two is drill, and step three, is to keep drilling. look, we know there is no silver bullet that will bring down gas prices or reduce our dependence on foreign oil overnight. >> dave: who those on the left use that's fact that we have

more domestic oil production today than the last 8 years, that includes the final years of the bush administration. newt gingrich, though, made this his platform, how he's going to come back, he's promising to deliver $2.50 gas. here's how: >> a presidential pen could, today, sign approval of the keystone xl pipeline. that is 700,000 barrels a day. the presidential pen could, today, sign approval to go back to the gulf of mexico, that is about 400,000 barrels a day. the presidential pen could, today, aapprove areas of alaska we know, 200,000 barrels a day. in three signatures, you would have 2.3 million barrels a day of additional energy, in the united states. three signatures. so, i would say, we're not looking for silver bullets. we're looking for presidential leadership. >> alisyn: he went on to say

announcing this morning she's throwing her support behind the g.o.p. presidential candidate. this comes ahead of tuesday's primary, in arizona. mitt romney got her endorsement and remember this heated exchanges on the tarmac between the governor and president obama? well, now the governor is dissing him again, and turned down his invite to the white house tonight for the annual governor's dinner and earlier this week declined an invitation to testify before the senate, regarding her state's immigration law. a government job that encourages you to drink up. sounds like a dream come true, and may be coming to utah, if a democratic lawmaker succeeds. he's supporting a new bill that requires at least two drinking members on the alcoholic beverage control commission and argued alcohol consumers need represent zatio representation, and, you need to get to work in the morning, you can't be that heavily of a

drinker. and, the state has strict legislation, about alcohol sales. dave briggs, get out the hanky. this soldier is coming home and surprises his daughter, at her school. >> dave: welcome back. gas is now at $3.69 per gallon, the highest ever for this time of year, with the president proposing an increase in taxes, how will this impact americans? joining us now, louisiana congressman steve scalise, good morning to you, congressman. >> good morning, dave. >> dave: we hear a lot about the president's tax proposal and making the wealthy pay their fair share and you say it could impact the price of gas and cost the united states jobs. how so. >> at a time when goose prices have never been higher, this time of year the president is proposing in his budget a $40 billion increase in taxes on american energy and all that will do is lead to higher prices of gasoline at the pump, hurting families and hurting the economy. >> dave: is it by closing the loopholes and tax preferences? is that how he is taxing the energy industry? >> right now, all manufacturing in america gives tax incentives

to manufacturing in america and we ought to encourage that and what the president is trying to do is go and raise taxes on american-made energy, so this is a $40 billion tax increase proposal, that only hits american made energy and wouldn't even apply to oil that is produced in the middle east in some of these countries that don't like us. so, not only would it increase the price of gasoline at the pump but also kill american jobs and send more of those overseas and make our country more dependent on middle eastern oil and the president couldn't have come up with a worse proposal unless i guess opec drafted it for him. >> dave: when it comes to the argument from republicans on gas prices the president mainly said two things, one, we cannot drill our way to lower prices and, two, a domestic oil production, is higher today than it was 8 years ago, including the final years of the bush administration. how do you counter that? >> out groups have already fact-checked the myth the president is saying on the campaign trail and when you prepare production to two years ago, it is actually down 20% on

federal lands and private and state lands where the federal government doesn't have as much control it has been up and where the president has influence, he reduced production of american energy and reduced exploration of american energy and that made us more dependent on middle eastern oil and the president just rejected the keystone xl pipeline and said 20,000 jobs that would have come to america now go to china and oil goes to china and now instead of getting oil from a friend in canada we will be more dependent on the middle eastern countries that don't like us because of the president's policies. >> dave: critics say in terms of the gas prices that is a wash, either way the oil gets into the market. what do you say the president should do, the private lands, where a lot of the increased production is not coming from government controlled land but private lands, what should he do to move the needle in the opposite direction as we approach $5 gas. >> we like and all of the above

strategy and say, look we have vast resources in america, let's open them up and go and explore and create millions of american jobs, and let's make our own oil here at home and make our country energy secure so we don't have to get oil from the middle eastern countries who don't like us. the president's policy has been the opposite of that. he closed off american energy at every thrust and the gulf of mexico we had an outside independent report that showed 50% of the small oil and gas comes have laid people off, because of the president's policies. you know, that is not the big five oil companies, that is local mom and pop small businesses that service the industry, losing jobs, more depend on these countries who don't like us because of president obama's radical policy and, keep in mind, in 2008 the president and his own energy secretary said they want to see gas prices up to the levels in europe, and gasoline prices are $15 a gallon in europe and the president unfortunately, is getting what he want because, we're seeing almost $4 a gallon gasoline here and it is going up and the president is getting what he want and unfortunately,
