12:25 pm
said one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all, we would be happy with that. we think that is a beautiful wording that includes everyone. it doesn't exclude anyone. by inserting under god into the pledge in 1954 at height of the mccarthy era what this country did, it unnecessarily excluded many good americans. secular americans fight for their country, they tie for their country. pat tillman perhaps one of the biggest here's of the last decade -- he gave up an nfl contract to fight in afghanistan and he died there, he was a secular american. it is not right that people like him and many, many others like him are excluded everyday in a daily patriotic exercise in this country. in massachusetts we happen to have an equal rights amendment that has teeth that specifically excludes any discrimination based on religion.

12:27 pm
certainly f it means anything it means children should not go to school everyday to be discriminated against. we are not challenging the federal governments right to insert the language into the pledge, although we do object to that of course. what we are saying is if the federal government oversteps its bounds like that the state government has not just the right but the duty to protect children in massachusetts and not require that recitation everyday. there's a big difference between writing a pledge and requiring daily recitation of it. >> we did reach out the school. we want to play a sound bite from their superintendent responding. >> this business marginalizing students no recrimination no negative consequence ever against a child. simply say the pledge and not state words "under god." >> kids cannot be punished for not saying the pledge.
