9:04 pm
>> so you are going to vote for rick santorum if he is the nominee? >> yes. >> you are going to vote for mitt romney? >> yes. >> that is how you feel. >> and you vote for 2008. >> so why are you looking for the republicans in 2012? >> obama is great leader but a big disappointment. the other guy would have been worse. >> i remember mccain walking around the stage during the debate. it felt like he didn't want to be president. obama came through and he felt like he wanted change. i believed him. but it didn't seem to could am to fruition. >> reporter: so you watch the debates and ads. should there will be more debates with the candidates or have you had enough? you want more.

[ laughter ] >> sean: charles wins the day. let's start with six days to super tuesday. i would say mitt romney, doesn't come back but a good showing by rick santorum. want to get your thoughts? >> it was a good showing by santorum, given the lack of money. romney has surrogates and established supporters and governors all over the country that can rally for him and speak to him. santorum is essentially a solo operation. given all that. he really needed the win in
9:22 pm
michigan because that would have been shattering. that really would have upset the romney campaign. there was one anonymous romney supporter who said a couple weeks ago that if romney loses in michigan we have to look for another candidate. that was his shot to break the mold. we're back in the main narrative romney is the guy who keeps coming back while the pretenders and challengers rise and fall. it's now incumbent on santorum to show on super tuesday that is not the case. >> sean: do you think charles, newt comes back in georgia and oklahoma and tennessee? >> he's got to get georgia. but i think oklahoma and tennessee will be the test. right now he is not ahead in those. if he doesn't carry those and only carries georgia. i think -- i don't want to pronounce him dead again. i've done it too many times. if i pronounce him dead one more
9:23 pm
time i'll lose my medical license. he has to win georgia but i don't think he would drop out. >> sean: it's interesting. democrats in michigan where democrats can cross over and vote in the republican primary. they tried their sort of reverse rush limbaugh chaos. didn't seem to be successful. how do we interpret that. do they prefer santorum over romney do you think? >> i think santorum would be easy to run against. i don't agree with the premise of your question. i don't think that was any high jinx by democrats in an organized effort by the party. i think you had democrats on the ground that tried to take advantage on the ground. don't forget the robo call came from rick santorum's camp. he saw it as a way to get votes. that is what he was trying to do. we reiterate your earlier point. he only lost by three. it's a big win for romney
9:24 pm
because he dodged the bullet. you look at the numbers and conservatives, people like you, still not enamored that he'll be the republican nominee. >> sean: i love how people interpret my decision. i know you think i can read my mind. i wanted to provide a forum for this audience so they can hear from the candidates on a regular basis. i'm anybody but obama. i don't think the country can afford four more years this lack of experience. i think the country could do better. 47 million americans in poverty. i like all of our candidates, i don't buy the narrative they are weak. >> hang on a second. let me say, sean, you are a conservative. i hope you are aware of that. when you, sean hannity it in identifying a candidate it's

makes the larger. i'm going to let everybody have my audience but the fact is, you are having trouble picking any of these guys. >> sean: you are misinterpreting my strategy here. here is the point. i first of all have faith in the american voters. i am a registered conservative. i don't include charles in this conversation but just to be clear, i think any of these candidates are infinitely better than barack obama. that is my point. i will tell you this. i have watched this pro es. you've seen it up close and personal. i'm very impressed how all of them have grown. in the case of mitt romney coming back, ten points down ten days ago. win in michigan is impressive to me. he has had his back against the wall and fought back. i think newt has been impressive in the debates. rick santorum has conducted himself well. i don't buy the narrative that the republicans can't win,
9:26 pm
charles. >> i think its coin flip. it's about 50/50. i do think given where the republicans were say six months ago, where it looked like pretty slam-dunk, obama's numbers have improved. there is a slight improvement in the economy. it is the process as designed. it was designed to be unlike 2008 when anomaly was found quickly and the decision of the republicans was too quickly we got the wrong guy. we got crushed in the general election. more deliberation, proportional representation. i think there was a miscalculation. when you do that against an incumbent president who doesn't have a challenger, who doesn't husband his resources, he is not spending any money. republicans are not just spending money they could use
9:27 pm
against obama, they are providing ammunition for obama and their negatives are going up. romney's negatives have been driven up by 20 points. that could destroy him in a general election. but i think it's diminished the brand. i admire the candidates, the process is a vicious one. you are under the microscope every day because of the news cycle, internet, cable tv. you are human and you are going to make mistakes. that is why i think they hurt themselves. >> i don't think there is any question. you said romney has come back. he is outspent by zillions and he has the establishment of the republican party. >> a win is a win. >> i agree. you've got to give him credit when his back is against the wall, his back was against the wall in florida. he fought back. you have to give santorum credit
9:28 pm
and newt credit in south carolina, santorum comes back and wins three states. now romney wins two states. i think charles is right in terms of the risk is great, but i do think the eventual nominee is that much stronger and they will need that strength going up against president obama. >> i think there was point you were making people stronger. right now when romney's back against the wall, the money goes everywhere, you see the ads and attacks and drags down the other conservatives. i think it does damage the brand as charles was saying. i think if you look right now at the margins in michigan and arizona, more and more conservatives are saying they can accept romney as the nominee. that good news for romney coming out of arizona. >> okay, he is the guy. but i remember bill clinton saying about the obama campaign, they played the race card on me. things got vicious within the
