>> no help from him or the lawyer. >> great show later on this morning. "fox & friends" starts right now. >> hi. >> there's a lot of aroma therapy going on on the set because both guys have on a lot of cologne. smells nice for a monday morning. it is monday. it's march 12th. i'm gretchen carlson. thanks so much for sharing your time with us. at this very second, president obama is releasing more info to give himself a pat on the back for energy advancements. is it progress or propaganda? he mentioned that he had other failed projects like solyndra. we have all the breaking details for you just been released straight ahead. >> good morning, meantime, president obama's campaign advisor says this election is not really about president obama. >> the biggest issues are going to be economic. i don't think it's going to be a referendum. >> we'll let you decide that one. plus brand new poll numbers on where the president really stands. >> and it paints a scathing picture of governor sarah palin
6:01 am
and john mccain. the movie "game change" makes its debut. is it fact or hollywood fiction? senator mccain gets the last word. "fox & friends" starts right now. >> good morning, everyone. hope you had a fantastic weekend. it was so beautiful here on the east coast at least. peter johnson sitting in for steve. side right. side left, eric bolling sitting in for brian kilmeade. >> heavy lifting for you today, gretchen. >> not at all. great to have you here today. huge guest show today as well. dana perino will be stopping by with her thoughts and donald trump as he does every monday morning. >> there he is, mitt romney running for president has some big primaries coming up tomorrow and comedian jeff foxworthy will join us. >> good morning.
6:02 am
>> he has endorsed mitt romney. we'll get his thoughts on that. one minute ago, something very big was released. this is the president's energy advancement plan. actually, it's five things or seven things that he's touting that he has done since becoming president with regard to energy. a lot of people are going to say here's finally the president's response to high gas prices right now. that's probably the political answer as to why this is coming out today because some new poll numbers show that 2/3 of all americans are not happy with the way this president has handled the rising gas price situation. >> ok. here's some of the points that he's made. he says oil production is up and he goes through the monthly numbers. he also talks about gas, natural gas production being up. he goes through some of the numbers and he also talks about oil imports going down. in other words, we're importing fewer barrels of oil. here's the problem, though, you remember when president obama first was elected, gretchen, he said we shouldn't drill more right now because it would take
6:03 am
years upon years before we realized they had oil. if that's the case, you can't take credit for numbers that are on the books right now. it has to have been done, according to president obama's words, during a prior administration. i'm in the camp that says drill now because the sooner you drill, you're going to get the oil and you'll realize the oil sooner. i think these numbers do reflect increased drilling. it's great and a great start. we need more about this. >> we're not going to be hearing about some of the failed green energy policies. $535 million to solyndra. that chevy volt that eric bolling has become an expert one. ener1, spectrawatt, bankruptcy. it goes through. tesla motors $465 million loss. $400 million for abound solar. on and on. billions of dollars of loan guarantees of companies that have been going down.
6:04 am
>> if you add up the failed green energy policies, it's double the number of mandates and successes he's going to be unveiling today with seven. there's more than 14 of the failed ones on green energy. >> if you take that board one more time, take a look at that board, forget the billions of dollars that we've lost, literally tens of thousands of jobs have gone south because of that board. they put money over there, didn't work and people are being laid off left and right. >> it failed to mention that the president's scrap drilling off virginia in early 2010. barred drilling in alaska's bristol bay and never considered drilling off the pacific coast. so yeah, there's some good numbers but there's some other side of the ledger that it's interesting to talk about. >> it's also interesting because obviously there were a lot of people meeting behind closed doors to come up with these seven things because they knew the president was continue to be asked what can you do about rising gas prices? and here's the response, whether or not remember what the president said last week, he said people like newt gingrich who has a $2.50 plan to bring
6:05 am
gas prices down, that's just political talk. that really can't happen. that a president really can't do anything about high gas prices. >> can i point something else out? if these numbers are true, ok, say they are. increased oil production here domestically, that's fantastic. increased natural gas production. that's fantastic. there's one number you can't argue with and it's the other side of the coin. gasoline prices have more than doubled to $3.80 per gallon now. it was $1.83 the day president obama took office which means there has to be more than just drilling more and getting more oil out of the ground. we talked about some of the other solutions to it, gretchen. we talked about picking one fuel domestically, bringing the e.p.a. -- >> one blended fuel domestically, bringing the e.p.a. out of it. there's a couple of other things that you can do to bring the price of gasoline down. he may be increasing his oil production but failing miserably at gasoline prices. >> let's move on to how the people feel about president obama.
6:06 am
what it comes to being re-elected there's a new poll out this morning that more than half of the american poll believes that president obama will be re-elected and now says 54% say yes to that. in january, only 46% said yes to that. and i guess you could argue, you know, the economy appears to be on an upswing. there are jobs created the last time that you were here, eric, before the end of the week and the unemployment number has remained at 8.3%. it hasn't gone up. >> and also when you have republican candidates dumping on each other in a robust way, every day, i think you're going to see that number inch up. i think it's probably going to move 50/50 as time goes on. and in time, there's a nominee. >> there have been a lot of issues lately. the bishops with health care, with contraceptives and the other issue with sandra fluke but take a look at what robert gibbs thinks the big issue coming -- going forward is. take a listen. >> the biggest issues are going to be economic issues.
6:07 am
i think you -- you saw a good economic jobs report on friday. we took another important step in a long road to recovery. i don't think it's going to be a referendum. i think it's going to be a choice, bob. we're going to have a choice in this election about whether we're going to continue positive job growth and we'll go back to the policies of cutting taxes for the wealthy and ignoring the middle class. >> robert gibbs, the argument, he used to be the spokesperson for president obama. >> that's important, though. they'll turn the dialogue back to the economy, you know, president obama, that's a very weak point for president obama. the economy is not working for him. i'm surprised that -- >> not if it kicks up, i'm not. >> what's kicking up? >> because a lot of the people on the other side have said that they can't run on their record. so now, if the economy starts to tick up to their advantage, they're going to run on that. come on. >> think about what the definition of ticking up is. it would be unemployment getting maybe in the sevens. >> what he's saying is a continued positive job growth, whatever that means.
6:08 am
it doesn't mean that -- >> dropping below 8%. >> it is perception. it's perception of which direction the country is heading in. i just think it makes for interesting argument because the republicans have been banking on the fact that the economy would be their talking point, right? and so now if the economy perception wise appears to be going in the right direction, i think they're going to be all over it. >> that's the new spin. that's the new spin. >> they can spin it all they want on the left but the reality is 14 million people still out of work. $3.80 a gallon gasoline. i'm not sure what's so good and what the uptick is. >> that's what's happening in the debates. >> my point is that if you're a republican running for president, you stay on those two. stay on 8.3. stay on $3.80 and forget the other noise that's going on right now. and thank you, robert gibbs for moving it back to 8.3% and $3.80. >> but does this president also look at both sides of the fence? in other words, when the economy
6:09 am
is not doing so well, does he also take credit for that? or does he go back to something we just heard robert gibbs allude to as well. listen to this. >> the economic plans were warmed over, cut and paste from the past and there's a big gap between what i'm hearing from the american people as i travel around the country and what the president was delivering in this speech. >> to hear people struggling, working harder and harder just to get by. their wages and incomes have flat lined while bush has been in office. i want to roll back bush tax cuts for wealthiest and give middle class folks a tax break. the only warfare i've seen is the battle against the middle class over the last -- last 10, 15 years. 3 1/2 years later, we're still recovering from the worst economic crisis in our lifetime. >> so it appears that blaming bush is the other way that you handle it when the economy is not doing so well.
6:10 am
when the economy starts to do better, then take credit for it. >> that will continue, the blame bush patrol will continue. >> let's do headlines for your monday. we'll start with the fox news alert. american troops in afghanistan bracing for retaliation this morning because the taliban is vowing revenge for a deadly shooting. a u.s. soldier accused of going on that rampage killing 16 afghan civilians including nine children. right now, we know that the 38-year-old staff sergeant currently in u.s. custody is a married father of two from the army base in kuwait. he arriveed in afghanistan in december after three tours in iraq. >> i can tell you that we're pretty confident this was just one individual acting alone. and i can tell you that one of the reasons we know that is because when it was noticed that the individual left the outpost and it was noticed and reported up the chain of command, the command did exactly the right thing. >> president obama condemning the attacks and offering his condolences to the victim's

accepts the fact that arterial sclerosis is an inflammatory disease so we go about ways of trying to treat inflammation. we lowered cholesterol. we lowered our consumption of saturated fat and it didn't do any good because we never really got to the heart of the problem. what is causing this inflammation that then allows the cholesterol to be deposited in our arteries and give us a heart attack or a stroke. >> uh-huh. what is causing that inflammation? >> well, we've been on this low fat diet and that means high carbohydrate diet. a high sugar diet. and currently, we consume more sugar and more simple carbohydrates than our bodies can tolerate. and so we get what's called sugar spikes. we get high spikes of blood sugar after these meals. of low fat products. and those high sugar spikes actually kill the lining of our blood vessels. they also hurt the cells in the kidney. they hurt cells in the eyes and in the nerves which is why

entire community. it is looking for the base of operations for individuals. people should also remember that the new york city police have been involved in breaking up 14 plots against new york city, 14 terror plots against new york city since 9-11. so what i recommend is those who are so quick to criticize the police for doing their job, go down to the 9-11 memorial. walk through that park-like setting. touch the names on the memorial and then say, oh, the police should lower their guard. oh, the police shouldn't worry about this happening again. you go to the 9-11 memorial and you do remember what that day was like and you do remember all the people we lost and you come away, i think, and i hope everyone who visits will come away with a very different view about what the new york city police are doing. >> peter: a lot of new yorkers acknowledge that commissioner ray kelly may be one of the great police commissioner in new york city's history, historic drops in crime and historic saves in terms of terrorism.
