about to land before. he reached the target the truck crashed into a ditch. the driver got out covered in flames that he likely ignited himself. overnight he died from the injuries. panetta's trip in the wake of an american soldier killing 16 afghan civilians. new overnight the soldier accused has now been flown out of that country and now in kuwait. afghanistan doesn't have the proper facilities need to do hold a soldier long-term. there's a chance he will be tried there down the road. afghan law americas outraged the move many of them asking karzai to suspend talks until the suspect is back on their soil. in case your invitation got lost in the mail -- >> did you get a chance to go? >> no. >> i wanted to go for the appetizer and figure out what salad fork to use.

three companies hiring right now. >> we are going to get initial jobless claims today. we don't expect any big news out of that number. unemployment still at 8.3 percent trying to get people who are hiring. the first one may surprise you. jewelers. >> people buying jewelry in the economy. that's what is so surprising. >> we have had a lot of the luxury names doing well over the past three years. >> a name like sterling is growing and they are hiring. here are the numbers for everybody. 700 jobs that are open right now they need sales people and managers. if you are full-time you get benefits, dental, medical, 401 k. i always highlight that. even if you are part-time they are big with fundraising for saint jude's hospital and they will train you. you don't need jewelry experience they will do that and pay you during the training.

what happened yesterday at the military base. you think how do our men and women continue the mission when you can't trust the people working there on the base with you. this guy was an afghan interpreter. >> it is very difficult because the taliban and military groups are able to infiltrate the security forces. keep in mind iraq was in worse shape than afghanistan is now. iraq was. i am seeing positive friends in afghanistan. as horrific as that massacre was the reaction to that by the afghans has been much more tame than i anticipated. >> much more thanl the unintentional koran burning. on the other hand someone argued folks in afghanistan are used to civilian deaths maybe that's why their response was not what you would expect it to be. >> maybe. you have to remember this is something as being highly covered. you have radical clerics out

there condemning it trying to fuel the fire as much as they can but the afghans aren't in an uproar like many people expected. if you look at the polls 70 percent of afghans supported military presence there. others thought it was the greatest threat to them personally. there is a lot of support for american soldiers in afghanistan. >> the question is whether they are willing to side with us or not. >> how accurate are the polls? >> inge they are accurate. there are 1,000 people protesting america and considering how big of a massacre this was and howie motionn -- howie motionn emotional that is. >> 23 thousand u.s. forces brought home by the end of the summer given everything that has happened do you expect that to be sped up? >> they may bring home an

additional 20,000 troops by the end of the year. some say 10,000. it remains to be seen. military commanders don't do that. when i look at the positive trends in afghanistan the afghans taking over the fact that panetta says the level of attacks. at the lowest level in five years i say we should not jeopardize that type of progress. that is hard fought. i would hate to see those gains lost. >> what is the role there it was the taliban and shifted to nation building schools, roads all of that. >> it has to be degrading capabilities so they can come in themselves. that brings pakistan into the picture. you have u.s. soldiers fighting in afghanistan we are not taking out the ied factories because it's too politically sensitive. >> afghan security forces need to ache over themselves.

when our men and women are training these people and you cannot necessarily trust these people given what has happened, given that they might attack our u.s. forces, how do you handle that? how do you work with these people, how do you train them? >> it requires tough counterintelligence. afghans on your side ready to rat out the bad guys. there will be future attacks like this but this is something we have had success dealing with in iraq for example. >> we are getting a little new information right now. apparently the attacks yesterday that occurred on the military base was not directed at the secretary of defense but was directed at the marines. leon panetta speaking out about that now. it is 5 minutes after the hour. let's head back to you. >> finally some relief from the long security lines at the airport. not for everyone. i will show you why.
