he even told them to say the lord's prayer. >> he was running down the aisle he was screaming afghanistan there's a bomb. i got to get in the cockpit. then he started banging on the cockpit door. >> he started yelling it's going to blow up or they are going to blow it up. >> initially acting unusual in the cockpit. the co pilot told him to go to the bathroom. the co pilot changed the code to the lock and he got locked out. that's what he caused a scene lowing himself against the cockpit door trying to open an emergency exit. here's what the co pilot told air traffic control just before he made the emergency landing. >> blue 191, clear land. >> 911 emergency. we are going to need authorities and medical assistance at the airport. >> flight 191 in new york to las

vegas landed in arm dillow texas. a captain who happened to be a passenger went in the cockpit to assist the co pilot. he was subdued and taken to the hospital. they are calling it a medical situation. he is 49 years old. he has been with jetblue for 12 years has a wife and a child. the media is really trying to learn everything they can about him. we suspect to hear a lot more over the next couple days and weeks to come. >> so bizarre. hats off to the individual that held him down. >> image being on the flight. we are going to talk with one of the passengers of the flight later this morning. at 5:30 that passenger is coming up. lea leads us to the question of the day. what would you do if you were on that flight. would you be one of those who jump into action or would you be somebody who decided to hang back. >> we like to think we would. who knows. i would be praying a lot.

through saturday. we have rainfall through the latter half of the weekend and starting next weeks. fingers crossed we will get moisture through southwest denver colorado and jefferson county for the wildfire. current temperatures in the upper 60s for texas. and a much warmer day today across the northeast as we head out this morning. current temperature 45 over in new york city we were talking about temperatures in the upper 20s in new york city. windchills even colder than that. little better for the northeast. we have moisture creeping on through. satellite radar picture most of this moisture is not making it to the ground. it is really dry out there. what happens is stom of the moisture falls from the clouds. a lot of you not seeing the snowfall popping up across portions of new england. some accumulation between 3-5 inches of snow across maine

she thought she handed the man money. a california judge has to decide if she gets to keep a cut of the ticket. of that money right, heather. a oo they have been going toe-to-toe with kaushing washin. this story is from foxnews.com. one part is money. they promised to return public land and there's no better time to deliver on that promise than now. utah passed the law asking them to regain control of 20 million acres that one lawmaker says are worth trillions in oil and minerals. similar legislation already passed arizona senate and is working in colorado idaho and montana and new mexico, too. gary herbert says the land could help cover funding. if it can't reach a deal with federal government they will pursue legal action. they are fight ago losing battle. it would be a huge disservice to turn national treasures over to

part-time. his home town is savannah, georgia. they have these part-time apartments. people who know this pilot say he was laid back and really nice easy going, but he was anything but laid back less than 24-hours ago ranting and raving telling people to say their prayers we are going down on the jetblue flight. we saw a very different picture. osmond is a veteran pilot logging more than 18,000 hours in the air. he has flown 35 different kinds of planes. he loved flying. he did it in his free time. he is married and adores his grandson, he loves to play wii. what happened to this man to cause him to snap? that's the big question. jetblue is calling it a medical emergency. i have been reading a lot of blogs on-line. a lot of people are saying how scary it is. pilots have to go through health examinations twice a year but

they don't have to go through mental examinations. that's what a lot of people are saying. it is a scary situation. what is interesting is he wants to become a motivational speaker. i am guessing he is not going to be doing that any time soon. >> lydia thank you so much. our next guest is sitting right in the middle of the plane and gave the pilot some water and spoke with the pilot as well. his name is josh redic and he finally made it to his destination which is las vegas. tell us a little bit about what you saw on the plane yesterday. >> little bit of chaos. little bit of confusion and a lot of scared people. unfortunately that individual his credentials, he had a bad day. hopefully he is getting the help he needs and he is in a better place now. >> talk to me about this. you were sitting in the middle of the plane what did you hear what did you see?

>> well, we first saw the cockpit door open up and him come out of it which was a little bit seemed weird to me. my understanding is once that door shuts it stays shut. then he looked a little disheveled like sweaty a little bit. his clothes were ruffled he made his way to the back of the plane where nobody really was too alarmed at that point. there was a little bit of noise out of the back then he started to kind of trot or run to the front that's where i kind of stood up with the gentlemen i was with. said something is going on. then we heard him say a couple things like better say your prayers and mentioned a few international countries and said this guy is not in the right place. something is going on. i made my way forward a little bit. as well as did a lot of other folks. the real hero here i have to say is the co pilot and the crew. the guy had the wherewithal to get him out of that cockpit. >> pull off on that a minute. i think your story is interesting.

you were in a middle seat as i understand it. >> i was in an i'll. >> so you sit up you go to the front of the plane to help out. what was the mood? what was the feeling among passengers who are helping out here? >> i think a lot he have people were alarmed. anything that transpires on an airplane nowadays everyone is real touchy. it's a security event in las vegas so there were a lot of those guys. there was a retired police officer on the plane who really took charge. first tried to put his hands on and restrain the pilot. we assisted him when he said it's time to bring us back to the ground. >> when he was finally brought down by passengers and restrained you spoke with the pilot. what did he say? what was he doing? >> he wasn't saying much. i think he was muttering. still trying to say a couple prayers.

i was gently holding him down saying look you are going to be in a better place just a bad day all around. you want some water. the stewardess gave me water and i poured it into miss mouth. i don't think this guy woke up yesterday morning and planned to do this. >> quick thinking on your part stepping in and doing what you could do. did you ever fear. i image if you were on the plane, you had some concerns that it actually might blow up like that pilot was talking about, did you? >> i really didn't think that far past the moment, thank god. i just kind of listened to the st stewardess and the gentlemen that was a retired cop was saying get this guy on the ground hold him down restrain him. don't harm him, just restrain him. that's where i was at. once he got off the plane i hope they come in and at least sweep the plane. that was a concern. >> just double check. thank you so much for getting up so early with us today. you are out in las vegas.

the flames that will be the storm system into the east. that will produce weather for us we are talking about showers from the northeast into the plains ahead of that system. it is cold across parts of new epping land. they are in the form of snow and accumulation from new hampshire to parts of maine. precipitation is expected. the morning rush is where it will cause a problem. severe probl in the plains and mid atlantic. this does include eastern kansas and southwestern portions of missouri and atlantic. west virginia, virginia and also parts of kentucky with large sized hail damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. it is going to take some time for these storms to get going.

and satisfy the hunger and also satisfy your sweet tooth. one of the things that you can snack on it's very healthy for you is raisins. they have a lot of potassium. even more than bananas. the bananas blunt the effects of sodium in our body. the reason sodium causes high blood pressure it causes us to absorb more water in our circulation as a result of that your blood pressure goes up. the potassium dulls the effect of the sodium. >> you say 60 raisins three times a day will lower blood pressure. >> they are eating 60 raisins a day and they notice a reduction in blood pressure. >> what about heart disease. what can we eat to prevent that? >> walnuts is effective for people with heart disease. for a couple of reasons. one they have a certain type of monday no unsan ratted fat that turns into omega 3.

they are good for battling heart disease by decreasing inflammation in our blood vessels. in addition they have powerful antioxidants more powerful than other nuts. and as a result that also decreases the inflammation of blood vessels around the heart. good for heart disease and for battling heart disease. >> i see the avocados on this table. most everyone likes avocadoings, guacamole. >> avocados are great for potassium as well good for heart disease and a good source of vitamin. they are mostly fat. but the fats in avocado are difrment than the usual fats we think about. for a couple reasons. one is they are powerful and have powerful antiinflammatory effects. antiinflammatory febts are important to decreasing damage to blood vessels that can lead to heart disease. in addition they have a good monday no unsaturated fat. >> don't eat too many of them.

happy meal. they are makeling crash test dummies smaller than they used to for good reasons. they have long been based on an average sized man. a dummy which is 5.9 and 172 pounds. i am not 5, 9 although i would love to be. neither is the average woman. the aying woman is closer to 4, 11. according to the national highway safety administration people who are smaller in stature are more vulnerable in injuries especially in the passenger seat. men drive more than women. female drivers in crashes have a 40 percent higher chance of serious injuries than guys do. smaller individuals hit the air bag at an angel so it basically jams the neck as taller folks hit it flat and it absorbs the head and chest. starting in 2011 those models are testing with the smaller female test dummy. they did release good news for
