president obama and former governor mitt romney are two men locked in a race to win the white house, as you know, two very different men with very different views of what america needs in moving forward as a great nation. on memorial day, both men shared their views on america's military and the sacrifices men and women make in defending the nation. romney broadening his comments discussing global threats to american security saying he has the better choice for america's military. >> we have two courses we could follow, one is to follow in the pathway of europe, to shrink our military smaller and smaller to pay for our social needs. the other is to commit to preserve america as the strongest military in the world second to none with no comparable power anywhere in the world. we choose that course. >> let's resolve that in our democracy, we can debate and disagree even in a time of war but let us never use patriotism as a political sword.

patriots can support a war. patriots can oppose a war and whatever our view, let us always stand united in support of our troops who we placed in harm's way. >> governor romney and the president are competing for the military vote. both acknowledging the 50th anniversary of the vietnam war. romney with senator john mccain, a p.o.w. and war hero vietnam at his side and president obama paying tribute at the vietnam war memorial. >> often blamed for a war that you didn't start when you should have been commended for serving your country with valor. came home and sometimes were denigrated when you should have been celebrated. it was a national shame. a disgrace that should never have happened. that's why here today, we'll resolve that it will not happen

mccain in getting support from the veterans. it isn't only demographics. it's history. and the fact is that in the vietnam era, the democrats were the anti-war party and we heard obama today essentially add doing penance for a country that spat on soldiers that returned from the vietnam war and what he didn't say is that in large part that was the work of the american left. it wasn't the work of the american right who supported the war. so in some way, he's trying to undo this legacy of 50 years. but that's why for the 50 years, democrats were always seen as the weak and anti-war party. weak on national defense. but it isn't only that. it isn't only history. it continues. >> yeah, those remarks were calculated. obviously, president obama has received lauding for his handling of foreign policy as we were talking about during the commercial break. >> here's my point. charles krauthammer comes up with a great point.

the most important thing that i got out of the president's speech is the vietnam veterans that got no respect at all, people who fall valiantly of finally getting the respect that you deserve. if you talk to the average vietnam veteran, all they care about is make surewar fighters t have to deal with what they deal with. even if charles krauthammer isn't 100% right, the end verdict is vietnam veterans, people are being forced hopefully in social studies classes as well to re-examine what they did. >> was krauthammer saying that he was politicizing it so it was a negative thing to stay. >> he said when the people came back from vietnam, they were spat upon and not treated properly and he was talking about how at that time, the party that was anti-war was the political left. which is, of course, the president's own party. it was good that the president of the united states referred to the men and women who served this nation as heroes despite what that nitwit said on msnbc. he since walked that back and apologized. >> let's talk about the long

primary battle. even though you know that mitt romney has won the nomination, it doesn't become official until later on today all because of texas. >> that's right. right now, romney is between 79 and 107 votes short of the magic number. texas has 155 convention delegates. it's interesting, if he doesn't win texas and clinches nomination with texas he would do what john mccain did four years ago but there are some texas republicans who say, you know, he hasn't really shown up down here in texas and there's a good possibility that he might not get enough delegates tomorrow -- tonight into tomorrow, he might have to wait until next tuesday which is california and new jersey. >> he does have the support of donald trump who will be having a fundraiser for him in las vegas. that's raising all sorts of controversy in and of itself. >> we look at the gallup poll right now, dead heat of 46-46 and we also know, too, that when it comes to veterans by a wide margin as kelly, i think, alluded to, mitt romney has more

basically followed a week ago, there was another on may 20th, a little over a week, there was another 5.8 tremor that killed seven and people were expecting after tremors. this hit the city, as you can see, there are pictures of the tent city and one of our colleagues is going on the air and you can hear people screaming and people running out in a panic. unfortunately, the number may rise. we were told by the mayor of a town right outside of here that there are more people stuck under the rubble. there are a lot of like industrial warehouses in this area and people have just slowly gone back to work. on may 20th, there was another large quake, about the same magnitude and people were sort of recovering from that and this happened. and it was quite unusual according italian geologists and it was unusual because the geologists say usually after a quake, there are after tremors but not of this magnitude. >> all right, excuse me, thank you for that report.

we'll keep on following that story and bring you up to date once we get more developments. we're learning a u.s.-led nato coalition has killed al-qaida's second highest ranking leader in afghanistan. he was hiding out in eastern kunar province when the air strike hit killing him and another al-qaida militant. he was known for organizing attacks against forces by supplying weapons from surrounding countries. bizarre stand-off in texas. pay attention to this, steve doocy, coming to a dramatic end on the campus of southern methodist university, s.m.u. happened overnight. a man was holed up in the cab of this crane for nearly 15 hours before he climbed out, he fell 150 feet to the ground. it was believed he died from the fall. police are not confirming anything at this time. we know the crane was being used to construct a new residence hall on campus and that the man threatened to shoot somebody, anybody who came near him.

that the suspect, pedro hernandez has confessed to strangling the little boy more than 30 years ago at a bodega in lower new york city and disposing of the body, police are now, perhaps, going to search landfills for the remains but is it possible to find and i.d. those remains 30 years later? dr. michael baden is a forensic pathologist and was new york city's medical examiner at the time etan went missing. good morning to you. >> good morning, steve. >> ok, what are they going to do? >> if they find the remains after 33 years, they can identify it because d.n.a. lasts for decades and decades. however, finding the remains is a real problem if he's telling the truth. most confessions and prominent deaths turn out to be false. and as many of them have been in the past on etan patz and also, i remember i was chief medical examiner, we were -- every day,

we looked through all the cases reported in the five burroughs to make sure there wasn't an unidentified child. we spoke to the jersey investigators. we spoke to hospitals. if -- immediately that was done. >> if a sanitation worker picked up a bag with a body in it, it feels like a bag with a body in it. they'd open it up. >> i know there were stories in the new york city area in the last couple of days about how, ok, they know the day when this guy says he dumped the body. so apparently they've been keeping records for years and years about where the garbage trucks took the garbage. it would either be at the fresh kills landfill on staten island or the closed brooklyn landfill as well. so they have a general idea. they might -- so theoretically, they could start going through every bag in a block theoretically, they could find it. >> if they get -- able to identify exactly where it is, theoretically, they can do that

but also, they incinerated some bodies in those days. >> some bags. >> excuse me, the garbage. they incinerated garbage, some garbage went into the ocean and all. it's -- and this is all speculation, but let me tell you, in a landfill, that's a tough job and it would take many bulldozers, many weeks or months to go through the debris even in the small area. >> so i know they're trying to find some closure. and it would be great to look through all those bags but that would cost a lot of money as the city is willing to spend that? >> a lot of money, time and personnel. a lot of it because we don't know what information the manhattan district attorney's office has. they've got to have more information than just a repeated confession by a person with mental problems. >> see? i'm picking uppish -- that you don't necessarily trust this guy. >> i think it has to be corroborated in some way because so far, all the people who have

defending this nation. romney broadening his comments, discussing global threats to american security saying he has the better choice for america's military. >> we have two courses we can follow, one is to follow on the pathway of europe, to shrink our military smaller and smaller to pay for our social needs. the other is to commit to preserve america as the best military in the world second to none with no comparable power anywhere in the world. we choose that course. >> let's resolve that in our democracy, we can debate and disagree, even in a time of war. but let us never use patriotism as a political sword. patriots can support a war. patriots can oppose a war and whatever our view, let us always stand united in support of our troops who we've placed in harm's way. >> governor romney and the president are competing for the military vote. both acknowledge the 50th

anniversary commemorating the start of the vietnam war. romney with senator john mccain, a p.o.w. war hero of vietnam at his side and president obama paying tribute at the vietnam war memorial. >> often blamed for a war that you didn't start and you should have been commended to serving your country with valor. you came home and sometimes were denigrated and you should have been celebrated. it was a national shame. a disgrace. it should never have happened. that's why here today, we resolve that it will not happen again. >> the president also told troops that americans must strive to be worthy of their service. meantime, the latest gallup poll shows u.s. veterans support governor mitt romney over president obama. some 58% to 34% and that makes

up about 13% of the population. those veterans being mostly older men. nonvets on the other hand give the president a four percentage point edge. juliet? >> thanks very much for that. and you know, there may be some that would question the appropriateness of the president making those comments but i think it was entirely appropriate and i don't question his motives for saying that. i think it's something that should have been said a long time ago. >> it could also be a tactic. could be a tactic to say that we're tired of the democratic party being the party that's looked as anti-military even though it was the republicans with this whole debt ceiling debate who stood by the military and now face huge military cuts because they're soon to be in the republicans' corner but the charles krauthammer listened to those comments and had a very interesting take on what that could mean politically. >> helps to explain the huge gap between the republicans, whether it's a romney or a mccain in getting support from the veterans. it isn't only demographics, it's

history. and the fact that is in the vietnam era, the democrats were the anti-war party and we heard obama today essentially doing penance for a country that spat on soldiers who returned from the vietnam war and what he didn't say is that in large part, that was the work of the american left. it wasn't the work of the american right who supported the war so in some ways, he's trying to undo this legacy of 50 years. but that's why for the 50 years democrats were always seen as a weak and anti-war party, weak on national defense. but it isn't only that. it isn't only history. it continues. >> i don't think the president had to say that, not that charles krauthammer was saying this but he didn't have to say it was the work of the ft. that was pretty apparent to anybody who follows history. >> sure, the president was right, you know, when a lot of the guys came back from vietnam, you know, they did not get the parade and he -- >> no, they were spat on. >> absolutely. and when the president says it was a national shame, you came home and sometimes were denigrated, absolutely true and that's why so many people have

tried so hard to make sure this time when people come back from afghanistan and iraq, they get the proper welcome. >> it was a democratic president during that time. j.f.k., l.b.j. and then richard nixon that got everybody out. >> i was going through the san francisco airport and there was a guy that just had -- i guess he had just gotten back from war and people were clapping and standing up. it was really -- i mean, obviously a totally different scene than it was in the 1970's when they were getting home. >> right. my wife and daughter flew back from dallas on southwest airlines two weeks ago, and as they landed at newark, the flight attendant came on the speaker and said, listen, ladies and gentlemen, so and so is returning from afghanistan. if you would stay in your seats and allow him first off the airplane? absolutely, they did. and as he got off, they gave him a standing ovation. >> nobody budged. everybody wanted to give that man his due which is great. >> yep. >> meanwhile, somebody who got his due when he returned from vietnam was john mccain. he got a handshake from the president of the united states.

he is a true american hero when it comes to the vietnam war. interestingly enough, yesterday, he was appearing with mitt romney. we saw mitt romney a moment ago. he was there at the veterans museum and memorial center in san diego. 5,000 people in attendance. he made some comments. he was heckled. here's what happened. >> families in every place in america have a relative of -- >> sit down! sit down! >> boo! >> jerk. >> there's a creep in every crowd, isn't there, brian? >> and the crowd went wild. >> and he has used that on us. >> right. but he was doing it kiddingly. i don't think he was kidding there. >> i like the people in the audience. take him down! don't mess around anymore. especially don't -- maybe at college campus you can see that happening but, you know, when you're trying to cut john mccain talking to 5,000, a significant number of them were veterans, not the best audience. >> that guy was escorted out. >> yeah, we saw that. all right. now, the rest of the headlines. >> all right, we'll start with the fox news alert. more tremors reportedly shaking up northern italy after a deadly earthquake kills at least 10 people. the 5.8 magnitude quake struck near the city of modena. courtney walsh is in rome and has the latest joining us by phone. bring us up to date. >> today's earthquake struck

right after 9:00 and many people who evacuated after the previous earthquake were staying in tent cities ran out terrified. just five days ago, a quake struck this very area killing seven. unfortunately, the death toll keeps rising and it's 10 at the moment. workers in this industrial city have recently returned to their jobs in warehouses. in fact near modena, about a town of about 170,000 north of bologna and we've learned of one worker at a cheese factory that died and a mayor says more bodies under the rubble, several buildings and a priest was reportedly killed by a falling beam in his church. workers are rummaging through the collapsed buildings in search of the injured and missing. the prime minister has pledged his help to the region. when he visited the area after the last quake, he was heckled by some of the crowd and criticized for not doing enough for the stricken area. there's reports of new tremors a few minutes ago. italian geologists say the aftershocks will continue but hopefully not as strong as the ones that hit today. guys? >> courtney walsh, thank you for the report.

if you've been in an earthquake, you wait for those tremors to happen. it's so disturbing and so stressful. we'll give you another fox news alert now. we're learning a u.s.-led nato coalition has killed al-qaida's second highest ranking leader in afghanistan. he was hiding out in eastern kunar province when the air strike hit killing him and another al-qaida militant. he was known for organizing attacks against coalition forces by supplying weapons and transporting insurgents into afghanistan from surrounding countries. a bizarre stand-off coming to an end, a dramatic end on the campus of southern methodist university in texas overnight. you have to see this. a map was holed up in the cab of a crane for nearly 15 hours. he finally started to climb out, this video shows him dangling there before eventually falling 150 feet to the ground. one local station saying he died from the fall. the crane being used to build a new residence hall. word is he climbed up there in an attempt to evade police after an early morning carjacking.

he then spent all day threatening to shoot anyone that came near him. this is the s.m.u. campus. web site saying all buildings will be open today. an honor student forced to spend a night in jail after missing too many classes. i'm confused by this. 17-year-old diane chan reportedly isn't your average 11th grader. she works two jobs all to help support herself and her siblings. her two siblings after they were abandoned by their parents. a truancy judge gave her a warning in april but a few weeks later, she missed class again. she was thrown in jail and charged with a $100 fine. the judge says he doesn't want to set the precedent that missing school is ok but many people say the punishment is way too harsh considering the circumstances. and those are your headlines. what is wrong with people? >> i'm not sure. we have another story of a third grader that's going to outrage you even more. don't give that away. >> i won't give that away. i'm so in support of this third grader. this happened to me when i was in third grade.

part, if the obama 2012 strategy in this regard is all about the amplification of 2008, it will be a striking deviation. they'll pummel him for being a vulture capitalist at bain capital. they'll pound him for being a miserable failure for the governor of massachusetts and mash him for being a water carrier for paul ryan's fiscal program. it goes on and on. clearly what they're suggesting, tim, is it was hope and change last time. it is be afraid. be very afraid of mitt romney this time. >> and what's remarkable is that it's mainstream journalists noticing this. i think that some of the mainstream journalists even are becoming a little disenchanted with obama and they're saying look, 2008, we elected this grand statesman, but in 2012, he appears just to seem like an ordinary politician complete with all the negative ads. >> and i think you, tim, being a professor has come up with an

ept analogy regarding dogs. >> that's true. you know, i think the difference is they're -- the obama campaign is not running a positive campaign. what's going on is partly just doesn't lend itself to a positive message. and what's going on is that i think that democrats have a different nature from 2008, before maybe they wanted to propose their own policies, now they enjoy criticizing republican policies more and so what happened is, for instance, 2008, they're quick to criticize george bush for guantanamo bay but once they get in office in 2009, they do nothing about guantanamo bay. i think the analogy is they're kind of like dogs barking at a bus. once the bus stops, they don't know what to do. and one hartford -->> auto dogs can't carry tokens and can't get on to the bus. thank you very much for your analysis joining us today from los angeles.

alert. death toll beginning to climb this morning fomg t -- followin the earthquake in italy. 10 people confirmed dead. the quake struck near the town of modena right now. crews are searching the rubble for survivors. this comes a week after a deadly 6.0 magnitude quake in the same area that left seven people dead and dozens more injured. italy's prime minister holding the impromptu news conference stressing he'll do whatever it takes to help those affected in the region. we'll have more on this at the top of the hour live from rome. >> meanwhile, new developments in the etan patz case. it seems police in camden, new jersey, may have dismissed reports decades ago from pedro her hernandez's sister. she told officers she suspected her brother killed the child but apparently have never followed up. meanwhile, pedro hernandez is claiming he disposed the little boy's body in the trash prompting police to check

your tax returns and receiving funds and all this fraudulent activity is costing the u.s. billions of dollars. fox news legal analyst peter johnson jr. is here with the prescription for justice. so this is actually -- i can't believe that this hadn't been happening years ago. this is pretty clever. >> this is disturbingly clever and diabolical as they would say on batman. what we're seeing is the i.r.s. catching millions of people doing it. and saying, you know, we're stopping about $6 or $7 billion a year in fraud but maybe $4 or $5 billion a year is getting through. people get your social security number. >> easy to get. >> your medical records in the mail and in different ways. and so they take it, and they file returns through turbotax and other things and in fact, they have these kind of fraudster turbotax parties and these folks have been found around computers teaching each other how to do this and how to

get on the internet. very prevalent in south florida using social security numbers from puerto rico, folks from puerto rico don't have to file federal tax returns. and so millions of people have been affected by this in a very terrible way. >> so the return money is sent in, what, like a debit card? >> sometimes a debit card that's dashed in. sometimes checks. mail carriers, unfortunately, have been implicated in this over the last couple of years. >> right. >> and have been sent to jail as a result of it and so you need to know how to see that it's happening. and then what to do, you know, once you know. >> well, you know, it's funny because we have some -- >> let's talk about that. >> some tips. >> the first thing is don't give your social security number out unless necessary. i remember going to video stores and said put your social security number -- video? absolutely not. you really have to be careful about giving that out, just say no, why do you need that?

ok. check your credit report really frequently. sign up for one of those services. i know they're expensive. but you will spend thousands of dollars trying to regain your identity. now, if you in fact become a victim, you got to reach out right away to two federal agencies. the federal trade commission. call them at 1-877-id-theft. then get to the i.r.s. because they're the people that sent the check to somebody else that you're supposed to be getting and call them. >> real quick, can you get your money back? >> you can get your money back. you have to file an affidavit. a legal affidavit with the i.r. s., you can't get your money back. you can get the money that's due back to you. but some of these folks are getting thousands and thousands of dollars more than you should be legitimately getting and have implications. it can ruin your credit score. a lot of big, big issues so really be vigilant. >> we are on the case, peter johnson jr. >> you and me. >> ok, cool. >> next, "fox & friends" is on a mission to help you get working again. cheryl casone is on deck.

the 5.8 magnitude quake struck. courtney is joining us live. we have a count of ten at this point but there are all the old buildings there, obviously historical, historical area. do you think the number is going to go up? >> well, we were told by one of the mayors of the town here there are still have bodies under some of the rubble of the collapsed buildings. but the problem is the tremors are continuing. about an hour another tremor hit and few minutes ago 5.0. this followed the quake this morning that was 5.9 that hit shortly after 3:00 a.m. new york time and that was felt all over northern italy. many of the people who had been evacuated in the tent cities after the first earthquake were terrified. just nine days ago a quake struck this very area, killing seven. and you mentioned the death toll is rising. many of the victims were workers who recently returned to their jobs in warehouses and factories

in a town of about 170,000. one worker at a factory that was crushed and another mayor said there were other bodies missing and a priest was reportedly killed by a falling beam in his church. emergency workers are rummaging through the buildings, looking for the injured and missing. and the prime minister has pledged to help the region. you visited it after the last quake. he was heckled by some of the crowds and criticized by not doing enough. problem is again the tremors are continuing and they are wreaking havoc in these invent ancient medieval towns. thank you. mitt romney is all but certain to have the 1,144 delegates needed to officially clinch the gop nomination. he's just 58 delegates away from that nomination. texas has 152 at stake.

sentiment is correct so let's put that out there. they were treated very poorly. the problem, however, is that a lot of the people who propelled barack obama's political career, propelled him into the highest office in the land, were those people who kind of considered our returning veterans as war criminals. bill ayers, president obama held a fund raider at his house, an old friend of his. and bill ayers called john mccain a war criminal and others like him because they participated in a legal war rather than staying home in being conscientious objectors for going awol. all of those men, and i'm not saying president obama thinks that today, but a left wing strain of thought were complicity in the war crimes the left believes were carried out across the board in vietnam. for him to say that, it doesn't -- while the sentiment is correct, it tends to make me feel like he's saying it for

political reasons. it's the first time he's ever said anything in those terms before. >> right. he was talking about vietnam, it's not going to be the same issue it was with the john kerry-president bush election obviously. >> exactly. >> and someone who served in vietnam, john mccain, he's making a speech on memorial day. very important with mitt romney, and then this happens. let's listen. >> families in every place in america have a relative -- [heckling in the background] [booing]

institute. and your daughter, you probably know three her, giving you a report. but they are doing a lot of policy work which is something they are interested in and it's nice. >> do you think there will be the awkward moment since this president has criticized the past president on numerous occasions? >> i don't think so. you know, we saw them over september 11th, and i think that just shows you what type of parents i have, that they are pretty gracious and loving to everyone. >> that's fantastic. >> that will be great. but in the meantime let's talk a little bit about unicef's new project. it involves a lot of pictures. third year in the run? >> yeah. i work in latin america. actually when my dad was president for unicef. it's an amazing organization that saves more children's lives than any other and that's in africa. >> we are swing down-home relane with photographs. >> that's one of the photographs that will be on exhibit tomorrow night. it's our third photo gallery

either you have it or you don't. ice a will to keep going on, and fight through punishment, pain, whatever it may be. obviously all have the same side heart. and the world to go on and take punches, be cut, go on, be knocked down, go on, get up, and you want to keep going until the fight is over and win. >> we watch the movie. we know you didn't have an easy life. and then you add something else that you were abused as a kid. >> it ate at me for years. and in the book i got it out and i feel a lot better about it. it's just something that happened to me, and i wasn't -- i couldn't control it. you know, it's something that happened, and hopefully it helps other kids, people to open up also. if i can help anybody, one person, then i'm happy. >> so you add this, and to me as i know what you have done in your fight, if you go on youtube and google mickey ward, you can see some of the best fighting in the history of the sport. we didn't get permission.

wrap-up fleet week on the west side of manhattan. >> one thing that's consistent last week and all week and probably happened the week prior is that mitt romney at bain capital was under the microscope. the president started this at himself. he said what he's done at bain capital was not about jobs, it was about cutting jobs. all the hits about what he was saying, he doesn't equip you having a bain capital director as a background. doesn't equip you to be president. and every angle. and two or three ads, some blatantly inaccurate. it brings the whole question of should you be attacking the bain capital years of mitt romney's background or is it ripe for the pick because he talks about it? >> michael beron, a great writer and reporter as well, he has a new column out and says he thinks it will backfire.

my hunch is obama's attacks on bain will strike most affluent directors as off-putting and that romney's calm responses will strike them as re' sure. >> it has backfired. mainstream media goes after the president you know there is something going on there. bob was on face the nation and listen to what he had to say about the negative ads. >> one of the changes when the president was elected he talk about hope and change. what ever happened to hope and change? now it seems he's coming right out of the box with these old-fashioned negative ads. >> okay. so remember back in 2008 it was all about hope and change, but now since the president, as the mitt romney camp says, can't run on his record, instead, as tim says, a professor at ucla, said on this show earlier, it's not hope and change this time, it's be afraid, be very afraid of

mitt romney. >> some of the mainstream journalists even are becoming us enchanted with obama. they say in 2008 we elected this grand statesman but in twelve he seems like an ordinary politician complete with all the ordinary ads. >> i don't know what you think, about you when i get e-mails from people and tweaks talked about negative ads, when you hear it, you see a negative ad, i sort of tune out. you sort of expect it from the other side. it doesn't really carry a lot of meaning or weight, brian. >> and so many people thought this was going to be a different kind of politician, a different kind of president. hope and change and now fast forward four years, how is that working out for you? as michelle malkin has said on this program. >> i think for people who are very busy in their lives and not obsessed with politics like us, you see a 15 second ad, and you have on television between shows, i think they are

>> welcome back. our next guest says public sector workers need to be reminded that they are servants of the public, not the other way around bump you wouldn't know it looking at the numbers regarding wisconsin, which is where that is a protest, of course. >> he's the founder of the eagnews.org site. scott, kyle, thanks for coming in. >> good morning. >> why are they protesting when

you find out what they make? >> that's what it interesting. over the last year we've heard about the 1% versus the 99%, and you contrast that with what we saw in wisconsin with the huge protests and the demonstrations and the recalls and all those sorts of things. what we decided to do was look at the numbers. and what we found is that 14% of the workforce in wisconsin works for the government. and the other 86% works for in the private sector. so what we did is we contrasted the government class with the producer class. >> right. >> and, in fact, when you look, and you just gave the numbers where only 14% of the employees in wisconsin are government employees, but then when you look at the per hour, when you break it down, it is jaw-dropping. a first-year teacher compensation averages out to about $56 an hour. that's a first-year teacher. a tenth-year teacher, $66 per hour. a typical producer class, you

know, everybody else, they average $18 an hour. >> that's right. so what we want to do is bring some per expectative and bring some reality to this situation. we use numbers from milwaukee public schools, which is the largest district in the state. and we showed that when you break it down per contracted hour, because many teacher contracts stipulate how many days and how many hours per day that teachers are required to work. and what we've found for a first-year teacher, as you said, when you combine pay and benefits, it's $56 per hour that the school district is spending. then you contrast that with the private sector, the average compensation per worker in that state is $37,000, which equals about $18 per hour. so there's a huge disparity and that's what we tried to show in this animation. >> maybe that is why scott
