a historic visit to vietnam by the u.s. defense secretary leon panetta and our correspondent on the scene with an exclusive interview. fox reports what formal editing plays in our future. and they protect our national interest and our u.s. president. the secret service rocked by a sex scandal in recent days. do you know the vital role they play. >> you just don't die on my watch. i go first, this person regardless of his politics, the the party, doesn't matter, he'll stay alive while i'm working. >> harris: we'll dig into the history of the agency where it comban. we begin tonight with a discovery in arizona in an area between the cities of tucson and phoenix, the bodies of five people burned beyond recognition. inside a white s.u.v. investigators say u.s. border patrol agents had been
7:01 pm
tracking the vehicle overnight on friday. and they saw a fire in the distance and someone torched the s.u.v.en when they reached it. one body on the rear passenger seat and the others in the trunk. >> there wasn't somebody in the front driver's side or passenger seat and the position of the bodies lead us to believe that there were likely other people there. >> harris: the area, a valley a pinal county 35 suit of phoenix and 75 miles from the the border with mexico and believe it's connected to the cartel going on south of the border. now the search for the suspect. casey stegall is live from the west coast news hub. this is was closing to phoenix than to mexico. >> yes, i want to talk about the location more. because the crime scene pinal county, arizona, it sits right between the u.s.-mexico border and the city of phoenix and makes it a perfect spot for the smugglers for a couple of
7:02 pm
different reasons. first of all, part of that county is extremely remote and has main roadways running through it connecting the border with phoenix, which as we know, is a major metropolitan area where drugs and weapons are sent to be distributed all over the united states. the burned out white ford expedition discovered in the the early morning hours after a u.s. border patrol agent noticed tracks on to the main interstate that led into the desert. wh he they followed the tracks, they found the s.u.v. had apparently went airborne off the highway and several miles in the distance they could see the vehicle smoldering. >> the vehicle didn't smash into something. it was in an open area, clearly this was a deliberate murder to try to destroy likely evidence, as we've seen other cars burned in this area, so, it's very alarming to me as a sheriff in this area. >> reporter: officials will have to determine if the
7:03 pm
victims were dead before the fire was set or if the flames killed them, but all of this information could take a bit of time to come in, we understand. because investigators say those bodies were burned so badly, they cannot even tell if they are men or women, white or hispanic. the pinal county sheriff paul babeu who we interviewed earlier and we saw and heard from him, said he notified the mexican consulate in ftucson as a precaution. >> harris: and as it spills over on to our side of the border, any leads in this? >> reporter: not any that they are telling us at this point. they're saying it's very early in this investigation, but no doubt learning the identities of those victims will help piece some of the pieces of this puzzle together. >> casey stegall, thank you very much. now we go to florida and the the deadline for a murder suspect to turn himself in. the self-proclaimed
7:04 pm
neighborhood watch captain, with trayvon martin, george zimmerman showed up before the 2:30 p.m. cut-off. you may recall on friday, the judge revoked his bond after he and his wife, speaking in code during a jail house conversation what they would do with money. and in a conversation george zimmerman's attorney had this to say. >> i think that explanation or apology if it is should go directly to the person who deserves it in this case judge lester. >> harris: not exactly a denial there. the attorney says he plans to ask the judge for a new bond hearing. zimmerman pleaded not guilty to murdering trayvon martin in february saying he the shot martin in self-defense under florida's stand your ground law. martin's family members argue
7:05 pm
that zimmerman was killed in cold blood. right now, rescuers looking for any survivors at a devastating scene overseas. a passenger jet carrying at least 140 people slammed into a building near an airport. you can see the destruction here, what's left of that plane. it happened in the nigerian capital of lagos, everybody on board the crash died and rescuers are digging through the rubble to see if anybody on the ground may be trapped and witnesses saying they heard a loud noise coming from the the aircraft movements before a crashed. hit power lines and hit a residential area, bursting into flames. it destroyed three other homes, danieling some apartments and a church. in pakistan, a u.s. drone takes aim and takes out effective militants. it happened in the remote tribal region in waziristan, at the same time of the attack suspected militants were gathered to offer condolences
7:06 pm
to the brother of another militant killed in a drone strike. and insurgents hiding inside pakistan in recent week despite pakistan's calls for the strikes to end. a historic day in vietnam, leon panetta, the first u.s. defense secretary since the end of the vietnam war to visit cameron bay, the site of a painful past, serving for measured american force, during the vietnam war. it's the site of a brighter future, and presence in asia. fox news correspondent jennifer griffin is is in vietnam and got an exclusive interview with the the secretary. >> reporter: harris, the last defense secretary to visit cameron bay was robert mcnamara and lyndon johnson made the cover of life magazine in 1966 when he went to visit u.s. troops there. cameron bay has been a coveted part in asia.
7:07 pm
using it as a military point. panetta arrived days after outlining new strategy in asia. two-thirds of the u.s. navy in the pacific as the u.s. pivots away from the the middle east. and the richard e byrd, a navy supply ship docked in the bay for repairs. it's one of the largest deep water ports in asia and protected. this is where the u.s. supplies and war ships entered vietnam during the war, the first time a u.s. defense secretary has visited the bay since the end of the war. it's been 17 years since the u.s. and vietnam normallized relations and now the u.s. is reaching out to improve military relations with vietnam. as of the rise of china's military rises large over the region and the the south china sea with the vast untapped oil resources and shipping lanes remain open to everyone.
7:08 pm
>> this is a historic trip. the fact that this ship is here in cameron bay, and that it's being serviced by contractors here at this location, and the repair work is being done by our vietnamese is it friends and that's had an indication how far we've come. >> all of the countries, obviously, are concerned about their ability to be able to have freedom of navigation. and that's a very important part of this region. i mean, as you've seen from this trip, we cover an awful lot of territory and go over a lot of water and the reality is that the ability of ships to navigate freely is very critical to the livelihood of these nations and so, you know, when it comes to the south china sea, when it comes to their ability to navigate
7:09 pm
freely on the south china sea, they want to ensure that that does happen and that means that china has to play a role here along with the other nations, to ensure that there's some kind of code of conduct that everybody abides by, the more, the more i'm out here, the more critical i view this region in terms of our national defense and the defense of the world. i mean, this is an area that is critical to the future of security and prosperity of our country and for that matter, the world. i think for that reason we are right to be focused on paying a bigger role. >> the secretary was not met by any senior leaders when he arrived, perhaps a sign the vietnamese of skittish about openly embracing the u.s. for fears of making china anxious. >> harris: thank you. and new hope in the fight
