greek voters chose a political party that favors staying in the euro zone. voters a half world away making an impact on our waltz and retirement funds here, the euro currency rising .9% just today. to a little more than 1.27 in american money, that is. the greek party that favored abandoning the euro and walking away from that multi-billion dollar bailout money conceded just a short time ago, a relief to many economists who feared a greek exit from the euro could have ripple effects on the economy, including here in the u.s. and the coalition working with other european countries. the white house congratulating the greek people saying in part, we hope this election will lead quickly to the formation after new government that can make timely progress on the economic challenges facing the greek people. we believe that it has in all of our interests for greece to

remain in the euro area, and wendell goal ser in mexico ahead of the g-20 world economic summit. let's begin with fox business network's ashley webster live tonight in athens with the news, ashley? >> yeah, and good evening to you, harris. it is 2 a.m. in the morning, all is quiet in athens, but you can be sure when the greek people wake up later today, they will feel perhaps a little safer, a little securer that their country will indeed remain in the euro zone. i think it was a fear of pulling out of the euro zone that eventually led to victory for the conservative party here. the new democracy party under the leadership, who campaigned on a pro bailout platform. he said leaving the euro zone and the euro would be catastrophic, but it was a close race, no doubt, against the left wing party, who said that greece was being forced

to do endure too much pain and that he was going to renegotiate with european leaders. that was seen as a big threat, as you said, harris, there were concerns not only around the rest of europe, but around the world that the ripple effect could create financial turmoil. and for now, eurogreece remainsn the euro zone. i've heard you talk about ts on the fox business network, a little more certainty that can be injected into the markets now. when he we wake up and our stocks begin trading what can we expect to see? >> oh, i think we're going to see a nice boost, if you remember the end of last week, central bank said they were watching this election very carefully, worried there was going to be financial turmoil, if the election didn't go the way they would like. and they said they would do what it takes to stabilize the market. now we have the election and gone the way the global markets would like and i think we'll see a nice push forward tomorrow and we'll see markets gaining as we've already seen

in asia and as you mentioned, the euro strengthening and greece is in its fifth year of recession and it does not cure the debt crisis, we have concerns about spain and the italy. for now, at least the greek voters had given some sense of order, if you like, that greece will remain a part of the euro zone. >> ashley webster reporting tonight from athens greece with the latest on the breaking news, thank you very much. we move on now, the global economy will take center stage, you can imagine tomorrow. when president obama attendance the g-20 economic summit, the group of 20. and bringing together political leaders from some of the world's largest economic powerhouses and that of course, includes the u mean union, the two day summit at lost cabos on the tip of southern california. wendell goler is live there. we expect the greek elections to dominate the next two days

of meetings. >> it certainly will dominate some, harris, we don't expect the resolution of the problem. only two yir seen leaders are here and there's a summit. 17 in the end of the month. and the president says what they expect is a commitment by the european leaders here to keep the yur zone crisis from dragging down the global economy. the actions that were looking forward to hearing more about and that he has been talking to european leaders about are areas like moving forward on banking unions, working to reenforce their fire wall and reinforce and recalibrate the path of fiscal consolidation for growth and sustainable path forward on greece. >> that means making the banks stronger, and the work better together, and coordinating budget policies so that the germans don't feel like they're paying greece's welfare bills and something that treasury geithner is spending most time on these

days. >> harris: what else is on the agenda for the summit? >> a lot on the agenda, food security, to sustaining the fight against climate change. what's not on the agenda may get more discussion, a lot of thoughts on the sidelines, the first time that president obama and russian president putin will talk, since mr. putin returned to the helm of his country, and mr. obama had take the opportunity to try and pressure him on the european missile defense, and press him on syria, and russia and china are the only countries against sanctions. and meet with the president ch and taking the share. >> harris: thank you very much. a fox urgent. word of a police standoff, an

off duty police officer who apparently barricaded himself inside the home. happening in doylestown, pennsylvania, north of philadelphia. our local fox affiliate police ordered them to move the news copper away because they were afraid the suspect might shoot at it. officers saying the guy has already shot at other officers and their squad cars. witnesses reporting hearing sporadic gunfire all day long on this sunday. one officer actually injured by schrapnel from one of the exchanges of gunfire, and s.w.a.t. team surrounding the house at this hour and we'll keep you updated and you can see the equipment moving through the center of the screen and we'll keep you updated as news warrants. >> rodney king, the man whose police brutality cases, rodney king has died. his fiancee found him at the bottom of the pool. his beating was broadcast all around the world and the following year the four police

officers were charged with assault and acquitted, a decision that led to unprecedented outrage in the community. a federal court later found two officers guilty in civil rights violations, sentencing them to jail time. the others were acquitted, again. police now investigating rodney king's death as a drowning. the san bernardino coroner's office saying an autopsy will be performed within the next couple of days. our anita vogel on the story in los angeles. what more are we learning about the investigation? >> hi there, harris, at this point police don't believe there was foul play involved, but the investigation is ongoing. now, the police got a call very early this morning from rodney king's fiancee just after 5 a.m. local time reported he was at the bottom of the pool. when police arrived, they found him inresponsive in the the water and known to be an avid swimmer and he was wearing a bathing suit. police got him out of pool and performed cpr until paramedics got there, but he was

pronounced dead. neighbors say he was a good man and will be missed. >> well, he's a very nice guy. he'd do anything for anybody. the way i got it. you know, and my understanding was that he helped his brother start a business in construction. when he would have a barbecue over there and i'd be here by myself, he would bring food over to me to eat. he'd bring barbecue stuff, you know? >> reporter: police add they didn't find any drugs or alcohol at the scene and as you mentioned, harris, they'll be conducting an autopsy the next couple of days. back to you. >> harris: well, anita, a lot of people will remember, too, after all that was said from rodney king, he said he wanted his legacy to be that he made a call for unity with those words can't we all just get along. what are people actually saying his leg see might be. you can't help as rodney king as a tragic figure who had a lot of bad luck in his life. after the beating incident and riots and remember, he had a couple more run-ins with the

police, most of them were alcohol related crimes. but those who study race relations say rodney king is a part of los angeles culture and history. and the spotlight on his beating played a role in leading the l.a.p.d. to change a number of tactics, listen. >> they can't use the chokehold anymore, there's all kinds of things that the police now do differently that came into play since the rodney king beating and since the police looked at all, you know, we should try different kinds of things. >> reporter: there are still a lot of questions about exactly what happened in rodney king's pool. we'll certainly be learning more details over the coming days. and of course, on another sad note, rodney king leaves behind three chirp, back to you. >> harris: anita, thank you very much. right now, they are counting the votes in egypt. finally, the chance for the people there to choose who will lead them, after kicking out a dictator in a revolution a year ago.
