because of a passenger. at this hour we know the plane has left the airport and is now in route to la. we will keep you updated. >> a service member was shot and killed by an african bliss officer. the american is now the 40th coalition troop member killed this year in an insider attack. this number is nearly doubled last year's totals of 21. u.s. nato troops are carrying weapons at all times to defend themselves against attacks. the chief of staff is in afghanistan right now. he is telling leaders they have to do a better job of bringing their military. >> it was a race against the clock in alaska's glacier bay. rushed to rescue more than 70 people from a sight seeing boat

it started taking on water. they are investigating how this happened. we are getting new reports this morning that republican leaders have reprimanded at least 30 members of congress and their staff for allegedly hopping into the water during research last summer. a group of law americas mostly freshman had a few drinks out one night before they went for a swim in the sea of galilee. here's the problem. one of the lawmakers kevin yoder admits he swam without a bathing suit. poll lito investigate this had and found no official wrong doing since the congressman used their own money. some say they did not participate. the mars rover zap this had rock with its laser for the first time. it was the first stop key instrument needed to search for any signs of life here on mars.

to medicare. he attended church with his family president obama and the first family of washington, d.c. also attended church. beyond this ability of attending church the debate for medicare continues to intensify romney ryan he approved medicare and extended the life of the program. what president obama weakened medicare take 700 billion out of it and using it to spend on a new entitlement which is part of obama care. it takes the money away from medicare. that hurts beneficiaries now. >> if they put that money back into the system it means medicare will go bankrupt in four years. if they put them in the white house medicare will go bankrupt before the first term. that's what that means. >> you can see how the debate is shaping up.

it will continue through november. they have not made any cuts to medicare but savings due to establishing systems they say is more efficient. obviously people will be watching they put medicare in front and center. it will be interesting to see how it develops back to you. thank you so much. medicare debate did not end there. on fox news sunday host chris wallace and president obama's campaign advisor went head to head. >> they did. wallace was pressing gibbs over the $716 billion and the impact it will have on services. take a listen. >> if all of what you describe was so amazingly egregious why is not one but getting two paul ryan budgets does he never seek to roll back the so-called cuts from the unelected bureaucrats you discussed? pause that. >> part of it is he has to accept current law and what's in the baseline. >> he does not have to that is

the whole reference to budget. >> i get to ask the questions here. you are contention is you can take $716 billion out of medicare. a lot of money $716 billion. it will have no impact on benefits. >> do you think the -- do you think aarp would woven dorrsed what we did if it hurts seniors? >> you think medicare actuary would say this isn't going to have an impact. if they say 15 percent of providers would be unprofitable. >> if they don't change the way they currently do business that's what we are talking about. strengthening the medicare beneficiary. >> he is saying paul ryan should quote thank president owe bam paw for strengthening medicare. has the president really strengthened medicare?

high expected at 90 degrees. we are seeing precipitation across the country. one area we will be keeping a close watch on is across the texas panhandle and across new mexico. this is where we see strong storms firing up. some of the storms could produce large size hail and damaging wind gusts. we could be seeing some severe thunderstorm warnings getting issued across the area because of the strong storms. we will be seeing storms across southern parts of mid atlantic. carolinas down through the gulf of mexico. southern part of the rockies and central rockies scattered showers and storms. >> thanks so much. now to stories you can bank on this morning here is one one airport taking the guessing gain out of how much time you have to wait in the long security line.

give the new land family an award for hundreds of people at the hercules industry of manufacturing plant. but now the city is cancelling the award because the family opposing the mandate is too controversial. the battle over medicare is taking center stage on the campaign trail. mitt romney and president obama's team duking it out over the weekend. >> they rated 716 billion of medicare to pay for obama care. that's a record the president doesn't want to talk about. that's why he has blame attack, smear, fear. >> if he wants to protect medicare for his mother he should thank president obama for what he has done in the past few years to extend the life of the medicare trust fund to help seniors with prescription drug costs to help seniors get free

prevent tiff care. >> who is right on this one? should we be thanking the president for medicare changes? >> i think we should hold the applause right now. paul ryan had the number that was from the cbo considered by partisan. that number was original lie 200 billion. you know this is one of these things if you remember nancy pelosi saying we will find out what's in it. we are finding out as we go along every time we get an update on it it becomes progressively more expensive. >> 716 billion let's take a look at some of the specifics. hospitals get a cut of 415 billion, medicare advantage 156 billion. another one is hospice care. any family knows they don't want money cuts now. >> that is exactly where all of the money is spent. if you speak to any one in the medical industry you put a large chunk of where the money comes

from it's in states. that's the last place you want to cut. >> if romney gets his way he will over turn the obama care. which does a better job at preserving medicare? >> i like what romney is try to go do it's more of an adult -- president obama wasn't bragging about saving medicare that wasn't in any of the party lines all year long. >> providing health insurance to the uninsured. >> it wasn't about saving it. everyone knows you can't pick money from one pocket and put it in another or change the nam e f a program. you can take millions of people off medicare put them on medicaid who can't afford their own bills already. i think the adult conversation with paul ryan is suggesting makes a lot of sense. he has a greater starting point. >> let's talk about what is in that ryan plan briefly. it would not effect those 55 or

congratulations to him. very nice for kid rock. that is 5@5:30. now to the sound of center lines on the campaign trail. president obama avoiding questions from the white house press corps. what does this mean one week after the national convention and two weeks from the dnc? we go to kelly write who is live from washington, d.c. >> oo the white house says the president is not avoiding any particular press conference from the white house press corps but it has been two months since president obama took questions from the white house press corps in fact. the president has not formally taken questions from the core in more than two months. on the campaign trail he has made time for reporters from "people" magazine, entertainment tonight and local television news reporters. the campaign manager said giving interviews to the media outlet is just as important to speaking to the white house press corps. >> i don't think they are more important but i think they are

equally important. that's where a lot of americans get their news. i think the president will continue doing that. mitt romney might have had two media availabilities but what did he tell you in those that he was afraid of getting attacked and spouted off lies. do you find that media availability useful if he is not being transparent about his own policies and distorting the president's? >> the last news conference was 27th of june. he answered 6 questions on the european dealt crisis and politics. form last was on march 6th. comparing this to other presidents involved in a reelection campaign george bush had 17 press conferences respecti respectively. he held 8 but he promised to hold one a month.

time for a look at who is talking. both are talking about mitt romney's taxes. >> making a case for why the american people need to see mitt romney's tax returns. listen to this. >> we are going to have that argument and we should see tax returns. his father said you shouldn't just put out one or two years you should put out a series of tax returns 12-13 years. he provided 23 years to john mccain. we are about to have a fundamentally important debate about the direction of tax reform in this country. i think if mitt romney proposes to be president of the united states and lead us through tax reform shouldn't the american people understand the offshoring and the out sourcing and the tax havens that he takes advantage of in his tax return and understand how those values would govern the tax reform decisions that he might make as president? >> romney's senior campaign advisor at gillespie telling fox news sunday chris wallace that

the presidential candidate does plan to release more tax returns. listen to this. >> as they have last year's tax return they will have the most recent tax returns for this year as well. you can go on to the web site and see personal financial disclosures going back to 2002. >> there will be two years of full tax returns which is consistent with what john mccain did because president obama wasn't trying to retract from four years of failed policies. >> the deadline is three weeks before the election. that would seem to me to be a crazy dime to release tax returns. strategically you have to release tax returns. it's a distraction if not an attack point for democrats. >> october 15th is the deadline for the irs on an extension. we said when they are ready we are going to release them.

i believe they will be ready r before that. >> on friday the president's campaign requested that he release five years of tax returns saying if he did that they would stop pressing him for more information. before you leave the house this morning let's get the first degree weather update with maria molina who has more on the storm developing in the tropics. >> we are tracking an area of low pressure. the storm system far away. it is sitting over parts of the atlantic ocean. the national hurricane center has a block on the storm. it has given it an 280 percent of developing in the main course system it would be eye sick. we have to watch the system closely. it is forecasted to continue to track west ward and possibly impact the lynn ward and lee ward islands by 9:00 p.m. friday we could be looking at the

system over parts of the caribbean. over across the lower 48 it will be a warm day across the pass snowfallic -- pacific northwest. we will be seeing showers and storms some of them heavy at times and parts of the texas panhandle will be dealing with showers and storms and some of the storms could produce isolated severe weather. let's talk entertainment news and country music legend willie nelson has been taken to the on thospital after sufferin breathing problems. the 79-year-old was scheduled to perform at a fundraiser but it has been canceled. ryan lochte showing off his swimmer's bod in the pink speedo. he was at a pool party at a bellagio hotel in las vegas. they are going to the top of the box office over the weekend.

including a 9-year-old boy. about a dozen people were also hurt in the 6.3 magnitude quake that struck the palu city island. 15 minutes before the hour and a small plane crashes into a neighborhood on long island killing two of the three people on board that plane. robert moses is live from new york with the latest. good morning. do we know what brought down this plane? >> heather, that will be part of the investigation by the national transportation safety board. it really is a miracle the plane did not hit any homes or people on the way to the ground. take a look behind me. this is on sherirley in long island. you can see the wreckage from the plane and the charred dumpster the dumpster that burned when the plane came crashing down to the ground. the single engine plane crashed just before noon yesterday shortly after takeoff from the airport which is a mile or so

away from where we are this morning. at least one person on the ground tried to use a garden hose to extinguish the flames. the unidentified pilot died at the scene. the other two people on board when police identified eric nunjum and 60-year-old wife were taken to the hospital where the wife later died. i didn't think there were going to be any survivors. usually have kids playing around here. i was worried about that. >> i have never seen anything like this before. >> the husband remains in critical condition at stony brook hospital. the national transportation safety board is expected to be here today as this investigation continues. that is the latest live from shirley robert moses back to you. thank you so much. earlier in the show we asked you to brew on this. this is a fun one. can marriage actually drive you to drink? according to a new study for women it actually can.

beaches. might see rich and famous people out there. my favorite is horse shoe bay. incredible. pink sand. it is gorgeous. that goes without saying, obviously. it is surrounded by rocks and cliffs. you can climb up and jump up into the water below. it is great. i love it. you can take a scooter there. >> it is off the coast of north carolina. keep that in mind because weather is similar to north carolina. >> a lot of people think it's in the caribbean but it's a couple hundred miles off of carolina. >> it is among the glaits the world. there's a beach which is the single most picturesque beach on earth. it is justin kredible. it really is. they have these large granite rocks there it makes it the most photographed beach. it has won a bunch of awards from travel publication being the most popular beach. >> popular honeymoon vacation now. >> totally agreed. i just planned a friend's
