so much about. emotional video shows terrified students emerging from briarwood after the storm. take a look. >> while the students here made it out safely, 7 students at plaza elementary school did not survive. anna kooiman is live for us on the ground she is in moore, oklahoma where the questions today are undoubtedly going to turn to school safety. good morning, anna. >> good morning to you and good morning to everybody at home. it is certainly heartbreaking and maddening all at the same time. it is hard to eeb recognize that that is the scene every where. we mentioned the elementary school a pile of twisted metal and a pile of bricks. it makes you wonder how on earth is so used to seeing tornadoes.

this is the 4th one to show moore oklahoma since 1988. why aren't they better prepared? hindsight is 20/20 and emergency officials are saying no safety precautions are absolute. those two elementary schools did not have reinforced storm shelters. either way everybody is devastated in this part of the country at this hour. let's take a listen to some of the survivors. >> this is my hometown this is where i was born and raised now there's nothing left. >> when you turn into my neighborhood it looks like a war zone like an atomic bomb went off. >> emergency officials are having a hard time in some instances because they are using gps devices and their smart phones trying to figure out exactly where they are that's because landmarks are reduced to rubble as well. they are having a tough time with that. you see these cars tossed about almost like toys the first

responders have been coming through cars and also homes making their marks letting everybody know the area is clear. that's what you see her. this is a tough thing to see this morning. >> certainly is. >> out of the tragedy in oklahoma comes incredible stories of survival. this morning we are learning more about the family at the center of the image. it was on the oklahomian. she is bruised and bluoodied. she was in the school when the twister hit. she grabbed what she could to stay grounded. she used her own body to protect her students as the walls were crumbling down. in the picture you see her walking hand in hand with one of her students who is sobbing, in

front of her you see the man on the left-hand side of the screen this is her husband steve he's clutching their daughter jordan. it is such a miracle all of the children, teachers faculty at cobb elementary school they all survived. about 24 people at a local bank road out the storm inside the vault. that's the only part of the building that is still standing. here is the before and after picture. wow. you can see that that bank completely torn apart except for that vault. >> that sure shows you the power of mother nature right there. speaking of that, those violent storms not over yet. severe storms and tornadoes are likely to affect millions of americans today. maria molina is live for us in the extreme weather center with the latest. where is this headed? >> good morning heather. good to see you. thankfully the storm system is moving out of the center of the country where it was parked over for the last several days producing a lot of severe

weather. the threat not as high today. 50 miles an hour large hail in some of the storms isolated tornado cannot be ruled out either. it includes up state new york pennsylvania interior sections of the northeast down into sections of the tennessee parts of the ohio valley as well. some of the cities cincinnati, cleveland tennessee and buffalo in burlington in vermont. you need to stay alert through out the day today. part of the reason we have the severe weather threat is not just the storm system ahead of this system we are seeing warm temperatures well into the 80s for many of you 86 in new york city in the 80s in cleveland also in memphis. that will help fuel some of these storms. otherwise we want to take a look at the weather in moore, oklahoma. we are expecting quiet conditions today. take a look at thursday and friday we could have another chance of additional showers and storms. additional rainfall not good for

jodi arias is begging for her life. she said yesterday in court trying to convince jurors not to give her the death penalty. in a brand new interview with fox she changes the chanexplain change of heart. >> my mother visited and said don't give up hope. the way she said it i realized how much it would hurt them if something happened to me. >> arias told the jury if she lives she will donate her hair teach women prisoners how to read and start a recycling program in that jail. >> she held a survivor t-shirt and the proceed will help victims of domestic abuse she claims to be a victim of domestic violence. those jury deliberations resume. >> it only takes one jr. or to save her life. >> a u.s. official confirms to

fox news there are at least 18 confirmed suspects. we told they have been monitored for months. some since october. we have enough to conduct a military strike right now for the main suspect the fbi is trying to gather evidence but reportedly does not have enough to try the suspect in civilian court like the obama administration wants. photos of three suspects last month. a search is underway for a teenager in iowa. the 15-year-old accused kidnaper has killed himself. the registered sex offender and he reportedly took shepherd and a 12-year-old friend on monday moments after they stepped off the school bus. the younger girl was able to escape and run to a nearby house for help. they are looking at whether he

was involved in another kidnapping. the markets are hanging on every word by ben bernanke. he will testify before a joint congressional committee on the economy. investors will be looking at any signs about a policy shift of low interest rates and 85 million of monthly bond purchases. the regional fed chief said yesterday the fed should keep rates down. >> new information overnight. remember this. sent the explicit photos to women. let's take that down. he sent those to women on-line. take that down. he is entering the race for new york city mayor. >> i made big mistakes but i let a lot of people down. i have learned tough questions. i am fighting for the middle class struggling their whole

life. >> he begins the ad by focusing on his wife and now young child. the campaign already spoofed the video went on-line hours before the campaign intended to release it. >> one day after chief washington correspondent james rose enwas targeted by the justice department about a confidential source about his comings and goings track he was not the only one at fox being spied on. shannon has more. >> personal e-mails phone records and we have learned the government went far beyond james rosen's information. in a court filing named the u.s. attorney's office the government details numerous pieces of evidence that it has collected including scores of phone records that have area codes and exchanges that back up to fox

news card lines and cell phones. in the backup we cannot see the final four numbers but the area code match up to fox employees and office phones including the phone lines that run through our work space at the white house the pentagon and the state department. these documents show the phone records linked to fox news executives. we have reached out to the justice department and white house for comments. jay carney can't comment on ongoing criminal investigation. they signed an affidavit accusing rosen of a crime by the state department employee. that led to a search warrant that gave the government access to rose en's personal e-mail accounts. ainsley and heather back to you. >> thank you shannon. the obama administration's targeting of journalists have members on the media on the left and the right outraged. take a listen.

>> i am heather nauert. the deadly tornado in moore, oklahoma. you can see right there as rescuers have combed through the rubble they say now three times over. they say they are so confident that no more survivors are buried under the rubble. right now the death toll stands at 24 and that includes nine children. >> the twist was upgraded to ef 5. it caused more energy than the bomb dropped on hiroshima. two schools tower plaza and briar elementary schools. parents rush frantic to be reunite withed their -- reunited with their children. elementary school escaping the rubble unharmed. plaza towers elementary school is where 7 people died. >> moore, oklahoma why one school might have been hit harder obviously than another. good morning, anna. >> good morning to you and everybody at home and listening to the children cry you realize the young survivors are going to be having so many emotions to dole with as school officials and town leaders are going to have answer a lot of questions. how are the schools going to be rebuilt. the two schools she mentioned briarwood it's built into four sections there are classrooms in each of those sections with an atrium on the outer side. when the building blasted the students had a place to go. plaza towers is more of a traditional building just one big structure as the walls collapsed they were trapped and had nowhere to go.

we have spoken to some of the survivors. >> all you hear is elementary school is down and your heartbreaks. you don't know who it is and what's going ovenlt it's heartbreaking. i feel for those parents. >> the late frst from the moore oklahoma fire chief they have searched all of the damaged homes they have gone over all of them at least one time. they are double and sometimes triple checking those homes to make sure there aren't any bodies or survivors they do believe there are any. where we are right now this is unbelievable. this is essentially -- it's a shopping center but you can't tell at all. you see these cars, too, they have been tossed around like toys. ladies i have to tell you the smell around here is just gasoline. you wonder how safe this area is as well. >> the shopping center looks

tearing up. the violent weather more severe storms and tornado threats likely to affect millions. maria molina is in the extreme weather center with the latest. >> good morning. good to see you. the same storm system that produces severe weather across parts of oklahoma for days because it started over the weekend finally heading eastward out of the center of the country. today it will be producing a risk for severe weather in parts of the interior northeast sections of ohio valley down into the state of tennessee and extreme northern sections of georgia. damaging wind gusts large hail and maybe an isolated tornado or two. the section to watch for for that will be across the state of ohio. stay alert if you live out here in cities like nashville, cincinnati cleveland buffalo into burlington, vermont. you have a slight chance not as great as the past couple days but it takes one storm to move through your area and bring damage. another reason we are looking at

>> nine minutes before the hour. jurors in arizona started to deliberate on whether or not jodi arias gets life or death. the convicted murderer originally told a reporter that she wanted the death penalty, but yesterday in court she begged jurors to spare her life.

make a big decision; they have done so. i think they will probably make a decision -- if i was going to be a betting man, which i'm not -- i think they're going to probably say she deserves the death penalty. the thing is you had all of those family members crying hysterically to do this. no one from jodi's family, mom, brother, nobody stood up and said please don't kill my sister, don't kill my daughter. she's going to start a book club! >> she wore a t-shirt yesterday as a survivor. she basically says she wants to raise money for victims of domestic violence. tasteless. the time to do that, is that going to backfire on her? >> very well may. she said her attorneys didn't put up enough of a domestic violence defense for her. meanwhile her attorneys killed themselves on her behalf. if she gets life in prison,

located everyone, they're going to go back over this morning at first light to plaza towers elementary because they need to go through some of that larger debris there. the whether has been so atrocious yesterday that it hindered their efforts to go through all of that debris. first light this morning will also reveal the damage in this particular neighborhood as families will be allowed finally to come back into this neighborhood and begin picking up the pieces of their lives. and finally we will get a break in this weather, the first real day where it's not going to be pouring down rain. to give you an idea of where we are, we're right across the street from the moore medical center. you probably saw aerials of that. this is what it looks like from the ground. it is a complete mess over there. they've got a lot of work to do over there. they don't believe they're going to be able to repair that. again, weather here finally clearing up, families being able to get there to take the very first step to
