veteran who was described by his family members as full of life. late last night spokane police releasing the surveillance video hoping that someone will recognize them. the suspects are being described as young black males between the ages of 16 and 19 years old. authorities say that they jumped 89-year-old delbert belton on 8:00 at i'm in. he was on his way to play game of pool. these teenagers beat him so badly that he suffered major injuries to his head. police found him later inside his car and they brought him to the hospital and that's where he died yesterday. belton's nephew speaking out about this senseless tragedy. he said his great uncle offered him a new life and took him into his home during hard times. listen to this. >> i was pretty depressed as it was. and delbert really did, it seems trivial. he saved my life.

anymore. i applied for this, they said we appreciate it. we don't need you. we need men out there. we need male role models. one of our producers is a big brother to a little boy. and now they're asking him to take on another little boy because they're in desperate need of the guys. so many crimes and all of these little young teenage boys are committing these crimes. >> it's true. it's a definitive fact of poor neighborhoods in this country, the lack of fathers. when is the last time you heard the president of the united states call for men to marry the mothers of their children? let's see, never. he never said that. it's remarkable given the divorce rate of 70% that he wouldn't say that. >> the manhunt is on. thank goodness cameras were able to pick them up. and they're right now on the trail. so hopefully they'll pull them in. we'll get the backgrounds. we're talking about what happened in oklahoma on wednesday and here we are talking about what happened last night. >> james woods demanding justice in this case.

as we all are. we hope these alleged attackers are caught. we'll, of course, report that as soon as they are. now for your headlines this morning. new details of the tragic thrill kill of a college baseball star. 17-year-old michael jones, the teenager that is accused of driving the car that his friend's used to gun down chris lane is reportedly linked to a string of armed robberies much the robberies allegedly committed with his pregnant girlfriend. investigators said they recognized jones' ford focus from this footage and then that it led them to the suspect. all three boys allegedly involved in the shooting are now in jail. jones is being held on $1 million bond. lieutenant colonel allen west says this violence reflects a bigger problem. >> it is a gangster culture out there. it was a culture that's being permeated throughout the media and throughout the entertainment industry that we need to start speaking out about. furthermore, when you think about the fact that 72% of black

babies are being born out of wedlock, this is the effects, the second and third effects that we have seen in the inner city, in the black community. and in other communities where it's spilling over. so that is the real conversation that we need to start having. >> yeah, the suspects, all teenagers, three teenage boys. this as donations to chris lane's memorial fund are still just pouring in. more than $100,000 has been raised to help his parents bring their son back to australia. a terrorist plot to kidnap, torture and murder police officers stopped just in the nick of time. las vegas police arresting david brouche and devon newman. they are accused of planning to grab officers and execute them in a vacant house where they built a make shift jail. they belong to sovereign citizen extremists which is a group that is classified as domestic terrorists. newman is denying she wanted to

hurt any officers. >> i never intended to harm or kidnap anyone. i wanted to be able to know these things and turn them in to eternal affairs and to the da so that these people could be brought back under control. >> they are now behind bars charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempt kidnapping. a major setback for new york city's controversial stop and frisk program. the city council defeating mayor michael bloomberg's veto of two bills placing strict limitations on that program. just last week a new york judge ruled to stop and -- ruled stopped and frisk was unconstitutional claiming it unfairly targeted minorities. the mayor is appealing the ruling and continues to defend the program saying that it has saved hundreds of lives. what happens in new york could have a ripple effect across the country as other cities are examining their own police tactics. detroit even recently announcing they were putting their stop and

frisk program into place. if you thought that drivers were the only ones who obey the rules of the road, well, you're mistaken. apparently birds follow the speed limit as well. a new study suggests that they react based on the speed of a particular road. this means that they will fly faster on busy highways and slower on the long, back roads. scientists also note more birds get hit in the spring. they say it's likely because the babies haven't had time to learn the road rules yet. those are your headlines. that's interesting. >> i feel better that our scientists are working on things like getting to mars rather than how fast are the birds going? >> we know longer have nasa, brian. we're focusing on other things. >> you're right. hours from now, deliberations continue in the ft. hood shooter case. the foshooter's fate in the han of 13 officers. celebrations began after nadal hass an passed on a closing argue am. so will the verdict be reached?

he only said i'm guilty and want to die. krib's ford atkinson is live in ft. hood with the details. hey, ford. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the jury deliberated yesterday for about three hours before calling it quits and they'll be back this morning to continue those deliberations. one of the reasons this may take a little longer than a lot of people would like is there are 45 criminal counts to go through and the jury could certainly choose to literally go through each one individually and take an individual vote on all of them. and that could take a while. it could take several hours, maybe more than a day. we simply do not know. now yesterday closing arguments, the prosecutor was very clear. he used the word premeditation many times because that's what makes these murders capital crimes. he insisted that hasan had a premeditated design to kill. he used a laser weapon. he been to gun range practice many times.

this was not a spur of the moment thing that he intended to do this and had a plan to do it. hasan himself when asked for a closing statement said he had no closing statement. so what we have right now is a jury that's already deliberated for about three hours. they'll be back this morning. we simply do not know how long it will take. the presumption, of course, is that hasan will be found guilty. the real question here in the sentencing phase probably beginning this afternoon, possibly, or early next week. will he get life in prison or be sentenced to death? back to you. >> all right. thanks, ford. the question is if he wants death, do you give it to him? because the rest of his life in a wheelchair suffering and thinking about what he did might be worse. >> no, you don't get death because he wants death. because he wants to die as a martyr. >> we'll see how that verdict goes. the president on tour to talk about college. what about the economy? remember that? he says we're on track. is that true?

it down. what are the facts? >> the actual record of the economy contradicts that boast that we're on solid ground and getting better. let me run through the actual facts here about what the misery of our economy. number one, 7 out of 8 jobs are part time these days. 54% of american paychecks are less than $30,000 a year. the length of time you spend on the unemployment line, if you lose your job, has doubled in the obama years. there are eight million dropouts from the workforce. on average, we have signed up 11,000 new people every day for food stamps in the obama years. the price of gas has virtually doubled. the average worker's health insurance has gone up by 29%. that is a grim record indeed. that's the obama years. >> so what numbers is the president looking at then? why is he boasting this? >> he's saying we've got growth. we've come out of the great

recession. i rescued you from the great recession and we have 2% growth. we're getting better. well, that's true. we are getting better. but if you dig beneath the surface, the reality on the ground of this economy, i'm calling it miserable. >> seven out of eight newly create jobs are part time. that's the result of how much we've spent in stimulus spending? >> well over $1 trillion. stimulus plan number one, increased government spending. that is all stimulus. plus, what's his name, bernanke's trillions of dollars in the economy despite all that, that's what you got on the ground. >> but people say look at the stock market. look at the jobless claim yesterday. we're down pretty low, 330,000 which caused our markets to go up. >> it's fascinating to find that top 20% of income earners, not president obama's constituents, they're doing quite well. the stock market is up 15,000 on the dow jones industrial average. the people who voted for him, these grassroots constituent

emergency there. the flames tripling in size and they now cover 99 square miles. so far that fire is only 1% contained. this is just one of 50 major uncontained fires now burning out west. we turn to our own meteorologist for the weather. >> good morning. good to see you. good morning, everyone. unfortunately a very heartbreaking situation that's on going across parts of the west like you mentioned, more than 50 wildfires currently burning out here. assen that because we have drought conditions. severe to extreme drought, very widespread across multiple states out here. that is providing that fuel for the fires to continue to burn. and we also have conditions that are dangerous. low humidity and also some strong winds, a number of red flag warnings in effect across parts of the state of washington, oregon, and also idaho and western parts of montana. there are changes coming up. that's good news. we do have tropical depression 90. just an area of low pressure with showers and storm. that will be increasing moisture out here. we really need rainfall. that is what we're going to be seeing as we head into this

releasing these surveillance pictures hoping someone will recognize these guys. they're described as young black males between the ages of 16 and 19 years old. authorities say that they jumped 89-year-old delbert in a parking lot in spokane about 8 p.m he was on his way to play a game of pool, which he did very often. he was reportedly waiting in the parking lot at the time for a friend who didn't want to walk inside that hall alone. belton was beaten so badly that he suffered major injuries to his head. police later found him inside his car and brought him to the hospital. that is sadly where he died yesterday. his nephew speaking out about the senseless tragedy. he says that his great uncle had offered him a new life and he took him in during hard times. listen to this. >> i was pretty depressed as it was and delbert likele -- it seems trivial. he made it possible for me to get the job, find work.

>> brian: the cost of insurance is rising because of obamacare. what if there was a way to negotiate prices with your doctor the same way you would a salesman, the same way you would maybe buy a car? it turns out there is and i have an example. our next guest helped a patient save $17,000 by not going through his insurance. you curious? i thought so. joining us now is dr. jeffy singer. how is that a win-win for everybody? >> what a lot of people don't realize is that many doctors, in fact, more and more doctors and hospitals, are willing to negotiate substantial discounts to people who don't have insurance who are willing to pay cash up front. so in this particular patient's case, he had a very

unfortunately now adays, rare type of insurance where he didn't have any preferred provider agreement or anything like that. it was like an indemnity catastrophic policy, it paid a fixed amount and the price he was quoted from the hospital was outrageous. we said, let's start all over again and cancel the scheduled surgery and pretend that you don't have insurance and let's start negotiating prices. by doing that and we were not prevented from doing that by any contract, we were able to save him $17,000. he was able to negotiate a cash discount from me, from the anesthesiologist and the hospital where he had the surgery. >> brian: i understand why he would be happy, but why are the doctors and the hospitals happy with that? >> well, because we don't have to go through the expense of having to get paid. normally like for example, in my case, for me to have the cash up front, i don't have to pay three people to fill out all these forms and deal with the insurance company to wait six

weeks to get paid and get paid pretty much the same amount anyway. despite what i asked for. so it tends to be in my best interest to do this for cash. a lot of hospitals do the same way. people are not aware of that and if more and more people actually negotiated cash discounts, you would see what the real market price for things is, 'cause right now if you try to ask your doctor or hospital what does this cost, they can't give you an answer. >> brian: i know. it's the only thing in our country where you just have no idea how much anything costs. here is some examples that you gave to us for the average person to go in in a different situation or something similar. get high deductible insurance, pay for procedures out of pocket, find out what they are, see if you can talk the doctor to a lower price. shop like a consumer, and cut out middle men, which in many case social security insurance. let me ask you, are you one of the rare forward-thinking doctors who think like this? could some doctors look at you like you have three heads when you bring this up?

>> no. no. more and more doctors are doing this. in fact, like i said, even hospitals will do this. the problem is it's not getting out there. people aren't aware of this. in fact, in oklahoma city, there is a center called surgery center of oklahoma city, started by doctors. they don't deal with insurance companies at all. they don't deal with medicare or medicaid. they have a very transparent, complete price schedule listed on their web site that includes everything from the surgery, to the nursing care, to the preand post op care. they're competing with the hospitals throughout oklahoma city so effectively that the hospital is starting to hurt 'cause they're losing customers. >> brian: thank you for sharing your story and hopefully we put a light bulb on some people's heads who are putting off surgery. >> thank you. >> brian: what is the single greatest threat to our national security? al-qaeda overseas? no. the answer straight from the outgoing f.b.i. director, robert muller. and he's back. >> we're going to washington,

voice. >> tucker: the world's end? >> "the world's end" is a new film, a trilogy. i mentioned trilogy, but movies aren't connected via characters. they're connected via ice cream. i know it sounds strange, but in the u.k., they had this ice cream called cornento. every single one of those movies feature a different ice cream flavor, which is why they're connected. this film is five best friends on an epic pub crawl, 12 bars one night and every single bar name is a foreshadowing of what will happen in that bar. the actors are incredible. peg has a great depth. it's a movie that has funny, serious, and dramatic moments throughout. you care for the characters. i think simon peg is a great actor. he was great in "star trek." it's my least favorite of the trilogy. i think the other two were better. but still four out of five.

>> brian: let's go to the next one. >> "your next" is interesting. i'm tired of hollywood releasing unoriginal films. this one was shot in 2011, yet studios are green lighting stuff like "smurf 2". give us more original films. this deals with a wife and husband celebrating their anniversary. they invite their family to the house and a gang of masked villains start to attack the house. it's a very, very violent horror movie. if you're not a horror fan, stay away. but the interesting concept here is you have a victim becoming the hunter. she starts to hunt the villains and that is an awesome, awesome twist. i feel like the move yeah is a combination of "home alone," "hunger games" and" the strangers." it's an epic horror film, kind of in the vein of "the cabin in the woods." four out of five.

story, he was gravely injured on this cruise ship and they just dumped him in a filthy hospital that couldn't treat him? could that be true? >> well, yeah. that is true. what happened was -- the reason i want to tell the story of exactly what happened and actually fox is probably going to get the story the way it is 'cause there are so many different stories that i'm reading and i'm like no, that's not what happened. i thank you for having me on. what happened was he fell and broke his hip and on the -- early morning hours monday. they couldn't treat him. they took him on an ambulance and they just let him go. they took him to badin. if you have a map and show where it is in turkey versus where normal a hospital would be, they sent him there, which was a government hospital. it was dirty. it was a hospital. not to say there is anything wrong with the turkish people, it's just that particular hospital was not capable of doing the surgery. they just left him there. they had no communication with

them. they made a statement, royal caribbean did, that they were there in communication the entire time. the only communication that this couple had was with my agent, judy, who has been with me for 13 years, and she contacted our ground tour operator in turkey, who oh, my god, the man translated everything for them. told them no, you are not going to stay at that hospital. i will work on getting you a government ambulance -- >> tucker: i'm going to stop threw to read the statement you just referred to in the interest of both sides. this is the royal caribbean statement. even though they had to leave the ship, we still provided assistance to them while they were in turkey. the health and safety of our guests is always a top priority. we will continue to do what we can. that's just flat out not true, you say? >> no, it is not true. can i tell you when royal -- does that not sound like they're right next to the bedside? >> tucker: yes, it does. >> do you want to know when they showed up in today. just now.

these things and turn them in to internal affairs and to the d.a. so that these people could be brought back under control. >> ainsley: both are now behind bars charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted kidnapping. a major setback for new york city's controversial stop and frisk program. the city council defeating mayor bloomberg's veto of two bills placing strict limitations on the program. just last week, a new york judge ruled stop and frisk was unconstitutional, claiming it unfairly targets minorities. the mayor is appealing the ruling and continues to defend the program, saying it has saved hundreds of lives. what happens in new york could have a ripple effect across the country as other cities are examining their own police tactics. detroit announcing they were putting their stop and frisk program into place. it looks like richie sambora is going to be living on a prayer. the long-time lead guitarist just got fired by won jovi.

the fact is that these were probably the kind of youngsters who come from deteriorated or nonexistent families. they exist like wolves. they get their values from rap videos. black, white, brown, yellow, red, it is a decline and fall of a society and of a culture. we have to be very careful not to attribute this necessarily to their race. is this a race-motivated crime? race matters, of course. but we have a -- >> tucker: i think that's a fair point. we can draw two broad conclusions from individual crimes, but that usually happens -- you've seen a lot on the left, very much including the president, take interracial crimes to make larger points about racism in america. here you have a number of interracial crimes recently and those people have been silent. double standard? >> my point, tucker, is that i think that in the post-trayvon era where conservatives watched as liberals created a false narrative of a black boy being

yesterday with cnn. and he said, at least he appeared to lean towards a view, if not confirming, that it was indeed a chemical attack. here is a little bit of what the president had to say yesterday. >> i can say that unlike some of the evidence that we were trying to get earlier that led to a u.n. investigator going into syria, what we've seen indicates that this is clearly a big event of grave concern and we are already in communications with the entire international community. we're moving through the u.n. to try to prompt better action from them. >> the administration's point person at the united nations is newly confirmed u.n. ambassador samantha powers, but powers was nowhere to be seen yesterday as the u.n. security council convened an emergency meeting on this ailed hemcal attack. the state department spokesperson was asked about that and refused to say where

powers was. >> i don't understand why you're unwilling to tell us where ambassador powers was. there is no dishonor in having a scheduled vacation. >> she had a previously scheduled place. i don't think i need to go into more detail from here. >> the u.n. was represented at that emergency session at the deputy level, as was russia, france and britain. under increasing criticism that the president, that the administration is not enforcing this so-called red line, the administration pointed out that it did indeed enforce the red line after the first chemical attack in syria was confirmed. this by providing direct military assistance to the syrian rebels. but the administration has never said exactly ha that direct military assistance was, nor has it said whether it has effected the outcome of the civil war in syria one way or the other. back to you. >> brian: at the very least, we know it's a gray line because everyone is confused about what exactly we did, which is the problem. doug, thanks so much. >> you bet.

>> ainsley: now to other headlines this morning. just over an hour from now, day two of jury deliberations in the fort hood case. the shooter's fate now in the hands of three senior army officers. jurors broke last night after about 3 1/2 hours of deliberations. the trial came to an abrupt end after major nidal hasan declined to give a closing statement. he has already admitted to killing 13 people and wounding more than 30 others. in the 2009 rampage and could face the death penalty. >> tucker: if you thought drivers were the only ones who obey the rules of the road, you are mistake. other species do, too, including birds. they follow the speed limit. a new study suggests they react based on the speed of a particular road. they fly faster on busy highways and slower on the long, meandering back roads. scientists note more birds get hit in the spring. they think it's lake likely because babies haven't had time to learn the rules of the road. >> brian: we've got the bird thing down now.
