4:06 pm
as it happens. now it's back to nana. good afternoon. it's just coming up to 6 minutes after 4:00. this is on tv online and on digital radio. i'm nana acquire whiteness . sounds ridiculous, whiteness. sounds ridiculous, but that's what they're spending our money on at a time when we're being taxed to the eyeballs. the government is shutting out billions on this things like unconscious bias training in the civil service and on group think that it's turning christmas into a book fest in the form of official civil service faith and belief toolkit, which states that christmas parties are permitted, but managers should think the venue and bear in mind that not everyone consumes alcohol for
4:07 pm
goodness sake. and all this in the name of diversity inclusion. we're paying to come up with this tosh . a report by the this tosh. a report by the conservative way, forward group due for release tomorrow , will due for release tomorrow, will apparently state that due for release tomorrow, will apparently state tha t £7 billion apparently state that £7 billion of public money being spent on politically motivated and divisive , a lot of it on divisive, a lot of it on equality, diversity and inclusion. e. d i. and jobs in are costing us the taxpayer around . are costing us the taxpayer around . £557 million per year around. £557 million per year with further billions felt spent on the quangos and on contributions , one of which to contributions, one of which to an arts council campaign on unlearning whiteness . ridiculous unlearning whiteness. ridiculous in this latest debacle, civil servants have apparently been told that they must refer to their christmas parties as festive celebrations and that they cannot drink alcohol if members of their team are sober in order to promote diversity and that end of the events
4:08 pm
should be just that with reference to christmas whatsoever , because it excludes whatsoever, because it excludes people of different faiths . one people of different faiths. one civil servant told the telegraph that team had to be told to find restaurant that didn't serve alcohol , that didn't exclude a alcohol, that didn't exclude a member of staff who doesn't dnnk member of staff who doesn't drink .7 seriously, what earth is drink? seriously, what earth is going on.7 drink? seriously, what earth is going on? claimed we're in a situation way in the name of inclusivity . one member of staff inclusivity. one member of staff is being allowed to dictate what other members of staff or cannot dnnk. other members of staff or cannot drink . even other members of staff or cannot drink. even the other members of staff or cannot drink . even the department's drink. even the department's festive quiz was held without alcohol. just in case people got drunk and misbehaved. i mean, thatis drunk and misbehaved. i mean, that is the whole point . you that is the whole point. you should have seen our christmas party night. it was fabulous. plenty booze . sadly, missed plenty of booze. sadly, i missed the bar and free food. now the free bar and free food. now jacob rees—mogg has scrapped several of courses during his time as cabinet in the cabinet said the idea that civil servants need something called a faith and belief toolkit to celebrate christmas at all is joyless, nonsense , let alone one joyless, nonsense, let alone one
4:09 pm
that suggests that people might worry about whether they can have a christmas party. tory mp have a christmas party. tory mp have to jeremy hunt, who is now facing a 40 strong revolt. many sick and of ridiculous levels of spending on products that we the british, are expected to pay. eye watering levels of tax fall . but if you think that this is the end of it, be warned . we've the end of it, be warned. we've got generation z or as i like to call them, generation zombie . call them, generation zombie. they've got their first ever alcohol free licence, which is opened a bar in london to cater for them. what a boring bunch in my day scenes of . people spewing my day scenes of. people spewing in the streets after a night were commonplace. we thought we were commonplace. we thought we were a good time. apparently generation zombie are more likely to opt for a sober night and skip the hangover. i'm afraid the civil service fest is just the tip of a very unmarried xmas iceberg . i know i used to xmas iceberg. i know i used to love it in essex on the streets.
4:10 pm
it was great before . we get it was great before. we get stuck into the debate. here's what else is coming up today for the great british debate hour. i'm asking, do you believe that labour down on labour will crack down on unions? now the shadow health secretary, wes streeting has said need to clamp down said labour need to clamp down on health unions ahead the on health unions ahead of the wave of strikes by nurses and paramedics winter . so do paramedics this winter. so do you actually trust that labour really are they just really do that? are they just talking at it's well, talking then at 450, it's well, i'll be heading across atlantic, where a new survey has revealed the majority of americans don't want or president joe to run again for the white house. stay with me because at 5:00, it's this week's outside. now, my celebrity guest is football manager and former professional player. now he most notably played for bolton wanderers in, the seventies. he has managed six premier league teams, including everton. does anyone know who that might be. all will be revealed later on. stay with me. that's coming up in the next houn me. that's coming up in the next hour. tell me what you think. everything we're discussing. email gbviews@gbnews.uk or tweet me at . gb news. writes
4:11 pm
me at. gb news. writes let's get started. welcome again to my panel and broadcaster christine hamilton and also broadcaster journalist danny kelly. welcome, both of you. well i'm really sorry. i must have left gb news christmas party too early . oh, i christmas party too early. oh, i probably left when the free bar ended. you. you missed an amazing when you caught the tail end of this. i thought you hadnt end of this. i thought you hadn't been there. i got that? where would that party just take one? would that party have one? where would that party have been without? any alcohol? it's the dog, isn't it? the tail wagging dog, isn't it? what should we up? just what up should we all up? just because few people want because a few people want it's crazy. want deprive crazy. they want to deprive falling, but part the rest falling, but don't part the rest of us so. well, well, well done. you got an invitation to gb news christmas party? oh, i will join you. but you said you never go to these things. no, i never do. because i. but it's nice to be invited. you wouldn't gone? no, i have gone. i. i i wouldn't have gone. no, i. i can't go. no no, no, i wouldn't go. i know that. i agree with
4:12 pm
you that nothing says christmas more projectile more than projectile vomiting. oh that's why i agreed oh no, that's not why i agreed on a gospel of strong imported lager . no, maybe followed . no lager. no, maybe followed. no love ships . lager. no, maybe followed. no love ships. nothing lager. no, maybe followed. no love ships . nothing says love ships. nothing says christmas. more than that . why? christmas. more than that. why? here's. here's a novel idea called why so horrible image. what a horrible . you're an what a horrible. you're an alcoholic. yes don't go to a booze filled christmas party. it's as straightforward as that. now, i'd like a pint was in birmingham yesterday. i went to the christmas market went to watch the football. football football a great evening and football had a great evening and i wouldn't have if i was sitting on the wagon or a recovering alcoholic of of my alcoholic of which one of my pals he can happily just tag pals is. he can happily just tag along and drink coca—cola. we don't have to change what we because of him he's his behaviour because of some sort of shame because of course that's why he had a problem with booze. that's why he had a problem with booze . but this is the booze. but this is the situation, is it? we seem to be accommodating the minority at the expense of the majority which is ridiculous, mainly because democracy . surely because it's a democracy. surely
4:13 pm
it's upside down it's working in upside down fashion. and why on earth would we to scrub out the word we want to scrub out the word christmas christian? well, christmas as a christian? well, that mean, that's they're that is i mean, that's they're not nuts. not supposed not nuts. they're not supposed say that. and also even, though, in country, most people now in this country, most people now do professed christian . do not professed christian. christmas is everybody what christmas is everybody what christmas is. and for those who want to celebrate the birth of christ. that's it is. and that's what we've done for decades and decades, centuries hundreds of years. and i think it's appalling suddenly it's appalling to suddenly say it's festive. it's festive. it's festive. it's not festive. it's christmas. they're christmas. well, they're spending money on as spending our money on it as well. i it's well. the worries i mean, it's 7 billion as large portion. it's insidious . billion as large portion. it's insidious. this billion as large portion. it's insidious . this is insidious, insidious. this is insidious, right. that council in wherever they were who we want to say that everybody has eat vegan food because it offends to the vegans to see other people eating . about 15, 20 years ago eating. about 15, 20 years ago there's a building society or a bank handed out porcelain piggy yeah. piggy banks and so forth. remember that . yeah. and all of remember that. yeah. and all of a sudden after muslims. yes. but guess who got it. guess who was complaining it was offensive to
4:14 pm
muslims. non—muslims middle class liberal people . they were class liberal people. they were saying i'm offended on your behalf . and you know what? i was behalf. and you know what? i was on radio in birmingham, the on the radio in birmingham, the time muslim community of time and the muslim community of which quite a which there's quite a few muslims saying, please muslims they were saying, please don't decisions , don't make these decisions, behalf we're not offended behalf of us. we're not offended by. porcelain pick on, of by. a porcelain pick on, of course that then does, but course, that then does, but spreads amongst people are spreads amongst people who are maybe cautious about integration spreads amongst people who are methat cautious about integration spreads amongst people who are methat again,|s about integration spreads amongst people who are methat again, the rout integration spreads amongst people who are methat again, the piggytegration spreads amongst people who are methat again, the piggy andation so that again, the piggy and they started to do nothing at. all yeah it's awful but you know we've we've got make a stand on these things as you say at moment the woke minority wagging the tail the woman is wagging the tail the woman is wagging the majority dog in all these issues . but then you've got issues. but then you've got generation z now coming to me. they don't drink. they're very sensible. i think the generation next though, after them, which is my daughter's , they're like is my daughter's, they're like what he she all these pineapples tell you much? i can't think of it. so i think it's possibly tipping the other way. but barclays wants to come along. but world has but you see what the world has come stand against it but
4:15 pm
come to stand against it but what the woke will say they'll say christine, you like inclusion, you like? yes, inclusion, don't you like? yes, i happy the argument, i do. i'm happy to the argument, but incredibly unequal but it's incredibly unequal spending people . it's spending money on people. it's a strong argument. no, need to strong argument. no, you need to be and push back and be resilient and push back and say, look, of course they do. but we're talking one or 2% of people and you're not going to tell behave, why do i tell me how i behave, why do i need change my nobody need to change my back? nobody of is saying the of that. nobody is saying the who don't drink can't go to people who don't drink, can't go to a party. people who don't eat meat, to a restaurant. meat, can't go to a restaurant. nobody trying exclude them nobody is trying to exclude them on just saying, on anything. you're just saying, do and you do all together. and if you don't to it, just there don't want to do it, just there and just you just make your choice this. this is one choice of all this. this is one of this mobile that says you can't a drink if there's someone who's eat pork. who's sober, you can't eat pork. if there's a muslim that it's crazy. but another note, crazy. but on another note, very brief, i wanted to ask brief, because i wanted to ask you, if you did you get to see meghan and harry, did you watch netflix? have. sorry netflix? i have. i'm sorry i've got to hello. i just can't got to say hello. i just can't be with that. sorry, be asked with that. sorry, i mistake. certainly not mistake. i'm certainly not 3 hours of my life watching the whole thing but i have seen
4:16 pm
various quite lengthy clips including clip where she does that mock. oh that oh yeah see i've seen that whole i've seen i've seen that whole sequence not just 2 seconds, it's out on the scene, the whole sequence. and to me she is evidently mocking the queen and the family poor. other the royal family poor. but other people that mocking people think that mocking herself , i don't agree. herself well, i don't agree. i have watched that whole clip several i think harry's several times. i think harry's face get into that harry's face tells get into that harry's face tells get into that harry's face is the answer to whether she's taken mickey the queen she's taken mickey out the queen or she's self or whether she's been self deprecating. to you, your deprecating. please to you, your majesty. and harry's face tells you all you need to know. well, i think she sort of off as though she was kind of showing off, but then she sort of embellished it a little bit too much, then seemed bit smug at much, then seemed a bit smug at the end. then was that the end. then there was that sort if to say, well, sort of look as if to say, well, this is we are kids? so i think it started off as a sort of gesture, then she kind of overdid that became overdid it. i think that became a i didn't like it and i'm a shot. i didn't like it and i'm not going to be watching the next one either. get my next one either. you get my watch to it, you quite watch glued to it, you get quite what is take? what does she what is your take? what does she
4:17 pm
think? know. because think? i don't know. because i don't torture about it. i have no interest it. but she's glued to i watch. she me watch the to it. i watch. she me watch the curtsy think and i agree curtsy and think and i agree that all you that harry's tells you all you need know. she's got all of need to know. she's got all of these liberal dvds saying, oh, she's harry's she's self—deprecating. harry's faces well harry's faces the answer? well harry's the hostessing the body language guy hostessing can us. he's great. he's can trust us. he's great. he's the body language the body language been language bodies. he's been on show. great. watched show. he's great. and i watched his and said, actually, what his and he said, actually, what happens that goes, he happens is that harry goes, he does like swallow. he does like a swallow. and then he sort clenches jaw . it's sort of clenches his jaw. it's like wears the trousers. so like she wears the trousers. so much. i've never seen a blue. but what's extraordinary there is expression going is an expression she's going to use. know what you look use. yeah, we know what you look like i listen, went like yourself. i listen, i went to charles. it my house? no, to charles. is it my house? no, you bloke . we you don't. i'm normal bloke. we wear a leg side which we put on in. exactly. you know . i said we in. exactly. you know. i said we wear it. wait till i see nail leggings that i decide which pair we put on it. i think that's very good. we have a very balanced that's contrary to opinion . i love the opinion. i love the relationship. so guys if you're watching i'm what do you think?
4:18 pm

4:19 pm
4:20 pm
4:21 pm
4:22 pm
this good afternoon. it's just coming up to 22 minutes after 4:00. welcome on board. i'm nana akua this is gb news. we are at the people's channel now. before the break i was talking about this wonderful of wokeness . let's see wonderful of wokeness. let's see what you've been saying, joe sanders the younger generation, no saint boring. who would fancy spending their teens or early twenties focusing on such hypocritical rubbish ? james said hypocritical rubbish? james said it's selfish if . people want to it's selfish if. people want to live. let them live a little absolute. i think it's so unfair for those of us are quite happy to look to drink or look after ourselves. it's a like when ourselves. it's a bit like when they of change the they sort of change the artificial sugar instead of actual. my thought, people actual. so my thought, if people can't help themselves with sugan can't help themselves with sugar, but keep your sugar, seriously, but keep your thoughts that thoughts coming. it's time that great debate out. great british debate this out. i'm believe that labour i'm do you believe that labour will crack down on trade unions now shadow health secretary wes streeting that labour
4:23 pm
streeting declared that labour would a hostile health would take on a hostile health unions bid to save the nhs, unions in a bid to save the nhs, as it requires drastic reform. three things singled out the british medical association or the bma for apparent hostility towards the that patients should expect better . now. i think it expect better. now. i think it shows that nhs the nhs set a record 7.2 million people on the waiting lists , which is set to waiting lists, which is set to worsen around about 15,000 operations. we're expected to be cancelled next week . do you see cancelled next week. do you see the nurses strike over demands for a pay rise of 99, which is somewhat now labour's approach towards unions suggests that sir keir starmer's party is adopting a new approach indicating a separation . the party and its separation. the party and its traditional roots. now this is despite the fact that the labour party accept than despite the fact that the labour party accept tha n £50 million party accept than £50 million from unions since . corsica has from unions since. corsica has always been the leader . so for always been the leader. so for the great british debate, i'm asking you actually believe that the labour party will crack down on these trade unions ? i'm on these trade unions? i'm joined former sun kelvin
4:24 pm
joined now by former sun kelvin mackenzie. kelvin thank you so much and welcome to the program kelvin. firstly, do actually believe that they are the truth or do just think it's just a land grab a trick to tell us that they really are going to do what we want them to do. but i think you have define what is a healthy union and he is attacking the bma effectively for saying voting the other day that between nine and five they were going to work and they weren't going to work and the other times which is a catastrophe for anybody who's ever tried actually to try and get any circumstances. so get under any circumstances. so that's narrow that's a particularly narrow attack i'd be actually more impressed with him if he attacked the unison of gmb people who represent ambulance drivers who are prepared to let your mother lie on the bathroom floor gasping for breath in return , pay or unison or any of return, pay or unison or any of the majors. so he's been very narrow and. he would get support. i suspect. narrow and. he would get support. i suspect . and this is support. i suspect. and this is where the conservative party are actually slightly at risk,
4:25 pm
because the truth about the matter is i don't hear anybody at the top end of the conservative party you run our country actually saying things which will appear appear to bafic which will appear appear to basic conservative voters . they basic conservative voters. they should say to the doctors you're either going to stop working seven days a week, you're either going to start working 12 hours a day or please don't . members a day or please don't. members of the nhs and i think that is where both sides of the argument are going end up. we are going to end up with doctors not working the nhs because they can do better in private and actually if i could access and not pay taxes but could use my cash , get to my doctor when i cash, get to my doctor when i wanted to , i would personally wanted to, i would personally prefer that the people who don't want this are people who don't pay want this are people who don't pay taxes . well, that's fine. pay taxes. well, that's fine. they can do . they can stay with they can do. they can stay with the nhs so where this arguments go way is just being cunning is just simply narrowing , making just simply narrowing, making his argument very narrowly towards the doctors and the gp's
4:26 pm
. we need a wider debate on. is there any future for the nhs because right now if the nurses , the ambulance drivers are prepared to sentence your mum and dad to death in return for a pay and dad to death in return for a pay rise. what is the point of an nhs which was set up well 75, 77 years ago and the moment may have passed . everything appears have passed. everything appears to be free, but actually it's all being paid out of taxes. and only 50% of the country pays tax . so 50% are having a free nhs service . and what do you get for service. and what do you get for nothing? you get the nhs service. we've got today, which is not working for 100% of the people not allowing the 50% or paying people not allowing the 50% or paying for it and it's interesting you say that as well . i saw a large portion of that 50% probably also have private medical. i want to bring in author and journalist rebecca reed and also as well. so i got national secretary whitehead. let's bring them both in. rebecca, i want to start with
4:27 pm
you and what did you think of what gavin saying? because it's pointed out pretty much well, 50% of the people are paying for this thing. portion are this thing. a large portion are paying this thing. a large portion are paying it. and not it paying for it. and it's not it doesn't appear be fit for doesn't appear to be fit for purpose at the moment. well, i'm only to calvin only just talking to calvin because comments about because of his comments about football commentary. but suspending temporarily, suspending that temporarily, even think you are even though i do think you are paying even though i do think you are paying calvin, i paying out of order, calvin, i understand and actually a friend of mine from my nct group couldn't get an ambulance for her daughter for the weekend. and i understand in that scenario it's one of the most frightening, things that frightening, awful things that can to we do can happen to you. and we do take granted that somebody take for granted that somebody will door, you need will come to your door, you need them. difficult because, you them. but difficult because, you know, we talk about and know, we talk about nurses and doctors heroes and angels. doctors as heroes and angels. but the end the day, it's but at the end of the day, it's a choice. it's their job a career choice. it's their job is get paid for. and is what they get paid for. and anybody individually a right anybody individually has a right to be paid more, paid to want to be paid more, paid fairly, paid enough , be able to fairly, paid enough, be able to have a decent standard of life. and a highly job. and it's a highly skilled job. so it's so don't think it's unreasonable, surprising they want money. i fear the time want more money. i fear the time may be coming.
4:28 pm
want more money. i fear the time may be coming . yes, we do have may be coming. yes, we do have to assess how national health service functions and whether, in my opinion people who earn more, pay more into it. in my opinion people who earn more, pay more into it . and i more, pay more into it. and i think i think it's incumbent on you. if you can afford private health insurance to get but to keep paying the same tax as well in the same way that people who send their children to private schools continue to pay taxes that i that go to the education that i personally a system. personally will take a system. do you think that the labour party being genuine because party are being genuine because wes streeting is saying that he's going he's going to he's going to be he's going to clamp down hostile trade clamp down on more hostile trade unions ? i do. i trust that they unions? i do. i trust that they are they meaning that do you think they're trying to sort of land grab a lot the land grab a lot of the conservative. i think it's difficult believe what any difficult ever believe what any politician i don't politician says. i don't remember that people making a promise and then it turned out in remember that happening ever but i am a believer in keir starmer in the sense that i much prefer him jeremy corbyn i think he's a sensible he's clearly very intelligent and whatever else think so i we else you think so i think we don't really have a choice but to i labour
4:29 pm
to trust him. i think labour have always the same buried have always got the same buried which their party of two very different groups equal leftwing islington type me and then also left wing usually outside of london . traditionally working london. traditionally working class people and those two groups want slightly different things and they want different language . i want everyone's language. i want everyone's cobbled in throat and told that it's going to be okay . my it's going to be okay. my friends in the north friends and family in the north who are working class backgrounds want harder line, more conversation . so more direct conversation. so i think it's a very difficult for him to walk. i don't envy is starmer trying to appease those groups of people and the unions who have lot of power and a who have a lot of power and a lot of money. that's why david miliband leader miliband didn't get to be leader of the previously because the unions didn't like him look look and see what your view on what do you think do you think labour are dumping jeremy . well think are dumping jeremy. well think that's you know i think that wes streeting comments are particularly misguided. i think we've got people suffering all across this country . workers our

across this country. workers our nhs nurses , we've got posties, nhs nurses, we've got posties, we've got teachers , we've got we've got teachers, we've got all sorts of people wanting to take action to get better pay, defend their injured , their pay defend their injured, their pay in a in a tory cost of living crisis. and i don't think that wes streeting should be going into the press and attacking, working people for wanting to do that. i think he should be supporting them in doing so, you also you're kind of in support of him . you are you in support of him. you are you in support him then you're not in support of him with his stance, these trade unions, then? no, no, i wouldn't supportive. you know i think he's you know, some of the comments in the press today from from wes streeting have been about you know the need to take about you know the need to take a hard line. he's not afraid stand against vested stand up against vested interests you know we're interests but you know we're talking about people on the front line of all public services essential front line of all public services which essential front line of all public services which all essential front line of all public services which all rely*ntial front line of all public services which all rely on al front line of all public services which all rely on who services, which all rely on who are being hit really hard like everybody in this country at the moment by this cost of living,
4:31 pm
like many of your viewers will be, i'm sure. and so, you know, i don't it's the right line to be to be saying that he's going to a tough line and, crack to take a tough line and, crack down them and vested down on them and their vested interests ordinary interests think they're ordinary people for people who standing up for a decent day's pay. and the labour party, which was, let's not forget, founded represent forget, founded to represent the interests of working in parliament, doing what it parliament, should doing what it was founded to do and standing by those people and supporting and helping them to get the, get the defend their pay , get the the defend their pay, get the gains they need. kelvin gains that they need. kelvin well, in particular, i found that reaction a bit strange because actually the out our gp's who are working hard have just said that they they voted to reduce their working hours to between nine and five. well people and that will be five days a will people go to work there are working people who need to be treated and they they can't guarantee that they're going to be all between nine and five. so find that a difficult five. so i find that a difficult argument i find it
4:32 pm
argument i also find it impossible say that when you join the nhs or you or a nurse or, an ambulance driver, that you continue when they say and by the way, a junior doctor, because that with the next law coming down the pipe that you can genuinely say, i tell you what i'm going to do. i'm to walk off the a new law walk off the job. a new law can just and die . i find that just go and die. i find that impossible to justify. whether i'm right , impossible to justify. whether i'm right, left or centre. i have yet to hear an argument. and this is the first time i've ever heard an argument. we said, well working people are entitled to do whatever they like. i do not believe. they are entitled to in the same way as the army can the job and the can walk off the job and the police can't the job. nobody police can't off the job. nobody in could be allowed in nhs could be allowed to simply off job. what simply walk off the job. what i dislike intensely about the conservative party is not that they are not the they don't have some good ideas , they're not some good ideas, they're not tough enough. i'm saying this, i just simply say you if you innocent gmb anybody who does that we will seize your assets. you are not to kill innocent
4:33 pm
people. it doesn't seem a big thing us to simply say what you have when you say something very briefly , i will help you in this briefly, i will help you in this people. what's wrong with that ? people. what's wrong with that? can i get rebecca to comment quickly then you can say i want to understand what extension to understand what the extension of is . if you to understand what the extension of is. if you said we are of that is. if you said we are no longer going to doctors and nurses would , you accept it nurses would, you accept that it would fair for them to would then be fair for them to say, fine, won't work. say, well, fine, we won't work. well, is they don't well, the issue is they don't have to do it. they don't to work in the nhs, they don't have have to do it. they don't to to work anywhere. but i am saying if you sign a contract have to undertake you will kill people. what is your argument to the nurses and the doctor ? what the nurses and the doctor? what about the ambulance drivers? the ambulance driver doesn't turn on your mother . your mother dies your mother. your mother dies from that . she wouldn't from a stroke that. she wouldn't have how you feel have died. how would you feel that argument? well, it's not. i know. i'll get the final , final know. i'll get the final, final comment. you know? can i get comment. do you know? can i get the comment? final comment. do you think? i think kelvin's living in cloud cuckoo land, to be honest. the reason that we've
4:34 pm
got people taking action in our nhs and particularly nurses and another work zone in our nhs is because of the falling standards. after a decade , a standards. after a decade, a decade of underfunding from this tory government which has driven down standards. this is the reason why we've got people and you know waiting like , like you know waiting like, like we've been hearing for so for long ambulances this is driving down safety standards i know people who work in the nhs. i know people organise people who work in the nhs and it has been very, very hard get them to very, very hard to get them to vote for strike action because they have such a duty to their parents and to their patients and feel that duty. but the and they feel that duty. but the reason lot of them have reason a lot of them have decided do because safety decided do it is because safety standards have driven down so far and so they know that they need to take some action and still have lot which is going on in our nhs at the moment. what is it that i've got to say thank you very much for your contribution former editor contribution former sun editor kelvin security kelvin mackenzie, security secretary. of momentum,

channel. i'm not aware, it's just coming up to 19 minutes to 5:00 now it's sci fi. great british debate this hour. i'm asking, do believe the asking, do you believe the labour party actually crack labour party will actually crack down unions? shadow down on trade unions? shadow health streeting health secretary wes streeting has declared labour would take on hostile health unions a on hostile health unions in a bid save the nhs as it bid to save the nhs as it requires drastic reform . now requires drastic reform. now this comes as the figures show the a new record of 7.2 the nhs hit a new record of 7.2 million people on the waiting list. i mean, unbelievable. now, this is also set to worsen up to 100,000 nurses, a scheduled to take take out industrial action at the first national strike ever wage increase. it's now labour's new approach towards unions suggests that the party is aligning themselves further towards the centre ground in a bid to distance themselves from the current strike. chaos and all this despite the labour all of this despite the labour party receiving more than all of this despite the labour party receiving more tha n £15 party receiving more than £15 million since sir million from unions since sir keir became the leader. keir starmer became the leader. so you trust the great of debate this i'm asking you believe this i'm asking do you believe that labour party will that the labour party will actually these actually crack down on these trade me see what my trade unions? let me see what my
4:42 pm
panel that. by panel make of that. i'm by author and broadcaster christine and and and also broadcast and journalist danny kelly . so, journalist danny kelly. so, christine are talking about wes streeting sounds . he's talking streeting sounds. he's talking tough. but as kelvin pointed out, it is the it's not all the unions he's talking about hostile unions. so we have to look at the language here they can't afford as you pointed out, they can't afford to crack down on unions that hard because on the unions that hard because they rely on them. not only do they rely on them. not only do they on them for their they rely on them for their money, unions control money, but the unions control a third of the votes on labour's neck. are absolutely neck. so they are absolutely connected the unions. what i connected to the unions. what i find extraordinary about wes streeting comments and wrote them he said things , which them down. he said things, which were my and they were music to my ears and they could from margaret could have come from margaret thatcher the nhs. it is thatcher said the nhs. it is a service, not a shrine . well done service, not a shrine. well done . it must reform or die well up more stuff must with more staff must come standards. he's saying all thank you. will he follow through ? who knows? i can't see through? who knows? i can't see the labour party being in any to
4:43 pm
crack sufficiently hard on the. and as you can understand why we would basically a general strike we're going to have in the next few weeks it's going to be like that with everybody out on strike you can understand why inflation's going through. the roof haven't roof and people's wages haven't kept. why it's kept. you can see why it's happening. we have. and if happening. but we have. and if we don't nip in the bud, it will just become inflation spiral, just become an inflation spiral, never spiral. i don't never ending spiral. and i don't have confidence labour can have any confidence labour can can that not whether they can do that not whether they will or not. they can't, they can't it. we wes streeting is tapping into the gritty reality, the hard socialism is never going to win a government in the united kingdom. now the reason for tony blair's success was that he tried to find a happy medium between socialism and capitalism. and wes streeting understands if keir starmer understands that if keir starmer is going our next prime is going to be our next prime minister, you need to actually have a balance between the two forms politics. there's forms of politics. there's a distinction to be drawn as well, because mr. mackenzie kelvin's right. i cannot still fathom that there are people taken hippocratic oath , doctors who
4:44 pm
hippocratic oath, doctors who and the oath basically says, you do everything that patients, okay, that's your priority . and okay, that's your priority. and there are people who are driving people to hospital who will prepared to stand that a picket line in the snow and ice of a december evening in morning and afternoon and allow people's calls to go unanswered. it's a it's an absolute disgrace. now, the train strike completely different people are going to lose their lives. well, they might they might imagine how they're going to like to this, get a train. livelihoods of get on a train. livelihoods of businesses will fold if a 20 fold idea . well, i doubt it fold idea. well, i doubt it because they have selected dates, but not what they would like it to be. i can say that they could be medical supplies. that could be something needs to be transported by train. i think there's a very broad brush to say that it's not going to affect people's lives. people say that it's not going to affe
4:45 pm
that them do something. that tells them to do something. and know, a risk to and you know, this was a risk to people. know. but dan people. i know. but dan is right. the risk to life is right. the main risk to life is the strike . i mean, my the nhs strike. i mean, my father was a gp , he simply could father was a gp, he simply could not to understand what's in the heads of these nhs people who are prepared strike it just he worked five days of the year but that's the point. what doctors and medical officer pays to do but that's that's what they sign up to if that is what's taken advantage of that is their belief that's what they're saying. obviously somebody who's in profession, you in a caring profession, you would want to go would think would not want to go on affect the lives on strike and affect the lives of they're supposed to of those who they're supposed to be caring for. but ultimately, if you is running away if you know, is running away with and your wage seems with itself and your wage seems be almost by the day and be falling almost by the day and you afford to live, then what do you afford to live, then what do you do? well you're you're kind of caught , you know, but the of caught, you know, but the nurses call isn't even the nurses call isn't even the nurses would argue that is nurses would argue that that is being used leverage . i'm being used as leverage. i'm saying, yeah, we've heard over recent weeks and agreeing recent weeks and months agreeing with it's a vocation and with me that it's a vocation and that's been used them. and i feel sorry for them because.
4:46 pm
they say, how dare you strike? well, vocation. why did well, it's a vocation. why did you this business? you get into this business? because save lives. so because i want to save lives. so you're contradicting yourself. if strike just to undermine if you strike just to undermine . but other side of it is, . but the other side of it is, if look it, okay, so you if you look at it, okay, so you want money, get more want more money, you get more money. fine. but with money. okay, fine. but it's with inflation. inflation inflation. okay inflation that inflation. okay inflation that inflation carries on rising. you're in higher tax you're now in a higher tax bracket, now you're going bracket, so now you're going to pay bracket, so now you're going to pay for income, a tax to pay more for income, a tax to pay pay more for income, a tax to pay your wage. it's just pay for your own wage. it's just it's i feel that it's i think i feel that nobody's really thinking this whole thing through because ultimately it's the taxpayers will they all will pay that and they all taxpayers of course and everybody's be everybody's going to be leapfrogging we'll leapfrogging else so we'll have a drivers and then a train drivers up here and then the nurses will come back and then the robot then goes on and on on. there no end to it on and on. there is no end to it except a really hard crackdown by andi except a really hard crackdown by and i am by the government and i am astonished the government has not negotiated the nhs not yet negotiated with the nhs unions. because unions. i mean, all because they're for pay they're asking for a 19% pay down negotiate. there's no point the two sides just standing, both of them digging their feet in. they have get together and also happens year also what happens next year or the year when inflation
4:47 pm
the year after when inflation comes to three or 4, maybe it should be linked to inflation. well, know what? that that well, you know what? that that could be negotiation index unked could be negotiation index linked inflation. that would linked to inflation. that would force then force the government to then bnng force the government to then bring down fast. bring inflation down super fast. i perhaps should be i think perhaps there should be a with this sort of public sector jobs where lives are at stake that there should be a guarantee that it should go up gradually inflation gradually with. inflation anyway, doing anyway, if it had been doing that would not be that there would not be this jump that there would not be this jump there should be jump. i think there should be that. that that in return that. but that that in return for not having the ability to strike i just think morally strike i just think it's morally bankrupt paramedic and bankrupt to be a paramedic and refuse go to someone who's refuse to go to someone who's had attack. how they can had a heart attack. how they can sleep themselves. sleep with themselves. i couldn't look his couldn't agree and look in his sleep. it's not sleep with sleep. it's not sleep with sleep. it's not sleep with sleep. it's a single it's a single ambulance driver . it's single ambulance driver. it's got no mrs. and yet and for the third time the army are being called in and told to give up their christmas i mean, i don't know how many troops it is, but a number have been told to a huge number have been told to cancel their christmas plans because they going because the border will be able to whether because they going because the bord
4:48 pm
make sense think if people honestly think this to honestly think this through to its natural that we its natural conclusion that we lost nobody lost everybody loses nobody nobody's this you can nobody's going to this you can keep making your pay go up like that. the of the that. but at the end of the you're going to be pushed into a higher tax. going to higher tax. you're going to be paying higher tax. you're going to be paying tax pay your own paying more tax to pay your own paying more tax to pay your own pay it's a nonsense. but pay rise. it's a nonsense. but people money. and people want more money. and i can why the morning after can see why the morning after the first paramedic pay strike the first paramedic pay strike the papers all be try to the papers will all be try to find studies people find case studies where people lost lives and that's when lost their lives and that's when pubuc lost their lives and that's when public support will just disintegrate. think public disintegrate. i think public support need to support is already we need to get money into. the health get more money into. the health service more not pot piling in government money. we need get government money. we need to get more money i think it more private money in i think it was who it was it was member who it was was it rebecca who said that that the people pay for private people who pay for private medicine should income medicine should be income aged then think went as far then think she went as far saying they should get a tax relief you're relief but you know if you're prepared pay, whether it's prepared to pay, whether it's for or health, for education or health, if you're twice, you're prepared to pay twice, what is with that? you're what is wrong with that? you're not . you're actually not arguing. you're actually taking the case. taking yourself out of the case. well, me let me see what the well, let me let me see what the viewers said, because this shows without them, let's our without them, let's welcome our great their great british voices their

opportunity what they opportunity to tell us what they think the topics by think about. the topics by discussing to go to discussing which we go to go to aidan mcgivern. she's where is she on she go to speak where she was on she go to speak where is in redding to redding to is she in redding to redding to speak. is she in redding to redding to speak . to speak in redding? no, speak. to speak in redding? no, to speak in ringsend. many people . i'm joking. somebody is people. i'm joking. somebody is written this thing don't know. it's to with me. it's nothing to do with me. heads and what do you heads will roll and what do you think? what's your view on this? thanki think? what's your view on this? thank i agree with many of the sentiments i heard now on sentiments i just heard now on the and i, for one, do not the piano and i, for one, do not buy for one second the labour is ready or willing to crack down on the union. i think keir starmer, he's trying to position the labour party as kind of a second revival player of governance simply to win a general , because as we've seen general, because as we've seen the labour party, the activist left and they publicly say key major one line talking points which ultimately hold no substance . but we'll make these substance. but we'll make these button headlines will secure favourable public so it was already set four weeks ago that keir starmer was actually
4:50 pm
defending the unions and the right strike and that labour would even up any laws passed by the government which undermines the government which undermines the to strike if labour were win the to strike if labour were win the next general election . and the next general election. and to me it's so ironic that wes streeting he would declare labour's readiness to crack down on unions overall and then angela rayner would be ready to join the right, the picket in terms of the health union. so i think ultimately proves that labour has little to no substance in any stance if they declare because they'll say anything to get to number ten and then backtrack on it regardless. i don't think that their policy to be trusted . their policy to be trusted. well, thank you very much for that. yes i sort of i'm thinking of the was it was tweeting you there, which you said hostile union. so it's not really all. thank you so much. loves speeches. thank you so much. loves speeches . i'm a cop and she's speeches. i'm a cop and she's a great british voice on gb news. let's see what you've been saying. says, do the saying. michael says, do the unions believe the unions really believe the government will accept inflation busting demands no busting pay rise demands no chance. are

chance. labour are overwhelmingly funded unions. they need them on their side. john says the trade unions are the key for protection of workers rights in this country should be no crackdown of any sort. maria says the government needs to crack down on the unions, never mind labour. they've promised action for and they have done nothing yet . good they have done nothing yet. good point. if you're just joining me, welcome is news. i'm nana me, welcome is gb news. i'm nana akua on online and akua with live on tv, online and on digital radio on the way world view american basketball player . brittney griner who was player. brittney griner who was jailed in russia, has been set. a prisoner exchange took place between moscow and the us . the between moscow and the us. the market swapping mrs. merchant of death for the sport star. all of that on the way after .

onune on nana akua. we're live on tv online and on digital radio. it's now time for world view, an american basketball player. brittney griner was jailed russia for flying with a cannabis vape. it's finally after a prisoner exchange took place between and mac. joining me to talk about this is our political commentator and russia expert, danny armstrong. danny, thank you very much joining me. what can you tell us about this prisoner exchange? i mean, it was this guy who was not a dealer , an arms dealer or dealer, an arms dealer or something on dealer of death ? something on dealer of death? well, yeah, but the big story between russia and the us is this kind of game of swap season in terms of a prisoner exchange. brittney griner , the basketball brittney griner, the basketball star, has been swapped for the merchant of death. viktor bout a huge arms dealer and somebody funnelled a lot of harms through various companies that he had , various companies that he had, before he was imprisoned in the us. now it might seem strange why the merchant of death has swapped for a basketball star, an athlete . but when you get
4:56 pm
an athlete. but when you get down to the nitty gritty of it you see that it's just nothing more than a pr play by, both sides. so we have brittney who was sentenced to nine years in a russian penal colony for travelling with a cbd oil vape . travelling with a cbd oil vape. now, of course that doesn't really match up to viktor bout charges of arms dealer really not to tell . the griner is that not to tell. the griner is that she she's back in america now so she's she's fine. i want to move on to russia because i want to find out about the ukraine, the current state of that moment . current state of that moment. well, the huge fighting going on in bermuda at the minute, which is in northern donetsk. there's been reports of huge shelling people would do without people, without do without power, of course, is that winter sets in this is going to be a hugely affecting millions millions of people across ukraine. i've heard on the ground reports of electricity coming back, but only in sort of a couple of hours day. and this is going to
4:57 pm
be huge going into winter, of course, backwards in northern donetsk is a huge territorially , very important to the ukraine and to russia as well. but it looks like fighting and the shelling is going to be carrying on for quite a while and right the way through winter. but it certainly like this this certainly looks like this this fighting russia's fighting between russia's mercenaries , the wagner group mercenaries, the wagner group and ukrainian forces is and the ukrainian forces is going rumble on. thank you going to rumble on. thank you very much. danny armstrong , a very much. danny armstrong, a political commentator. let's travel to the states now where we're going to have a chat with the of the politics people the host of the politics people poll polls . thank you very poll that polls. thank you very much what can much for joining me. what can you tell us about the poll on biden and trump because i hear that want neither take it that they want neither take it with a pinch of salt but poll okay. because when you drill down into the figures you find that it's 37% of republicans don't want trump to run again, which means got 63. amongst the republican party. and that's the only nobody was going to vote for . nobody who isn't
4:58 pm
only nobody was going to vote for. nobody who isn't a only nobody was going to vote for . nobody who isn't a devout for. nobody who isn't a devout trump voter is going to vote for trump. so he's got 63% support as it stands after midterms. it's biden got 50, 57% of democrats don't want him to run next time. so poll was amongst all voters . 801. people in a all voters. 801. people in a poll as amongst all voters . and poll as amongst all voters. and when you've got the entire media in the entire state working against you , i'm amazed that against you, i'm amazed that he's getting 63% support still. so the even the new york times wrote a couple of days ago, the new york times hates him, hates trump, even they don't write him off. look what happened . italy, off. look what happened. italy, exactly. write off trump. exactly. never write off trump. he is not a politician. he the leader of a populist movement, is indeed. now, i want to ask you about harry and making the documentary. did you watch it? and what's been actual what and what's been the actual what is reaction in america to is the reaction in america to it? because here the uk been it? because here in the uk been a lot of that in america surprisingly more of that than you'd imagine. i see it. is this
4:59 pm
show. yeah was made for america. this is the interesting thing. i think just watching it as a brit in america , it was made that in america, it was made that whole curtsy thing look at a reffing. you know, the media all night, whatever, you know , the night, whatever, you know, the kind of mediaeval times, dinners that's what she laughed when she that americans will know about this. this was a show to work in america . and it's amazing. i'll america. and it's amazing. i'll tell you the thing that americans picking up on is that fake curtsy that exaggerate the curtsy that she did and the look , harry's face, i swear, if they think they're getting more popular, they are really diminishing any kind of credibility that they might have had. look at all the astute glee staying away from commenting . staying away from commenting. you've had the obamas commented on it. you've had the clooneys . on it. you've had the clooneys. all these people did comment in the past . all these people did comment in the past. this all these people did comment in the past . this is all these people did comment in the past. this is the point they used to comment on meghan that she was a victim, etc. even the quote of the week me is oprah winfrey saying that when she was asked to comment on show
5:00 pm

5:07 pm
manager, a former professional player. he's most manager, a former professional player . he's most notably played player. he's most notably played for both countries in the seventies, and he's managed six premier including premier league teams, including everton. he was england's football manager 67 days and he was dubbed the big sam as anyone guessed it. well, keep guessing then for the great british debate this hour. i'm ask you, are heat pumps and solar panels viable? the met office has issued warnings temperatures issued warnings as temperatures in uk could drop as low as in the uk could drop as low as 12 degrees, with the country facing . extreme weather facing. extreme weather conditions this year. people are struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter during their homes this winter during the of living crisis. but the cost of living crisis. but can heat pumps and solar panels realistically serve as a viable alternative? even with your thoughts? vaiews@gbnews.uk or tweet me at . gb news. so now tweet me at. gb news. so now it's for this week's outside footballing legend . sam footballing legend. sam allardyce is celebrity guest starting off as a former footballer. sam made 578 league appearances across 21 years,
5:08 pm
mostly spending his time in the football league brief spells in the north american soccer league and the league of ireland . and the league of ireland. however, big sam is known for his manager role roles, taking up his positions at bolton, newcastle, blackburn west ham and of course sunderland. what do you invest there? sam nunn, the england job. just back then he left after just the england job. just back then he left afterjust one the england job. just back then he left after just one match, after he was caught during undercover sting where he was filmed suggesting reporters on how to get around third party ownership rules . since then he's ownership rules. since then he's managed west brom and everton, but now he has new plans. sam is known for being a man. always has something to say , i'm glad has something to say, i'm glad to say. he joins me now. sam welcome to the show. sam a man with a plan. good to talk to. right. so we've got to go straight that a lot of these meetings are going to go straight in there. the match last night. what did you make of it . obviously amid that, it it. obviously amid that, it isn't going to be because when you have lost the game football,
5:09 pm
we all agree. i think i don't need to be an expert to say that we didn't deserve to lose, but we didn't deserve to lose, but we have to look at that . the key we have to look at that. the key moments in the game, of course , moments in the game, of course, the two key moments for me, particularly are the second goal particularly are the second goal. the england left , which goal. the england left, which could have been avoidable . and could have been avoidable. and of course, the penalty that unfortunately the captain of england missed, harry kane . i england missed, harry kane. i mean, so he he was very nervous . i think that you can see him popping . i think that you can see him popping in below his cheeks under the extreme that the world cup brings and what penalty bnngs cup brings and what penalty brings the game in the world cup in knockout stage is an unfortunate we were all sat very comfortably thinking that will score because he rarely misses a penalty and right at the very wrong time for england and then it was a mess and a big and fortunately ballooned over the bar didn't seem to keep america safe suddenly terms israel bombers. when it goes like that
5:10 pm
and the thing is he's got to deal with all that pressure i would definitely i think i'd crack under that i don't think be able to do that . so for you. be able to do that. so for you. yeah it's tough it's really, really you know, so you shouldn't think too badly. really you know, so you shouldn't think too badly . they shouldn't think too badly. they did quite well. they squandered the chances. got to say, the latter chances. got to say, to be fair, i didn't think that. but just but you've but that's just me. but you've been managing football clubs for a while . what made you get into a while. what made you get into that ? oh, a childhood dream from that? oh, a childhood dream from nine years old to play football. i that when i started years of skills and worked all the through the school to finally become an apprentice at bolton wanderers at 15 then i of getting bolton wanderers team that was achieved in i think it was 73 from 73 i had a great career in football . all four career in football. all four divisions a spell a very, very, very great in american football in the soccer league out there and finally decided that it was time for me to move into
5:11 pm
management. and i think that having now the number of managers and the number of clubs over the years in all the divisions i felt with my experience it was the right thing to do, gained my qualifications as best i could. and then waited for the job to come along . of course, nothing come along. of course, nothing comes easy this game. and now i started the bottom and work my way up throughout all the divisions, through the two. so all the divisions in football , all the divisions in football, in the football league and finally up at the very top, which i'm so pleased about when i say to you think in 15 when i left school what i still be talking about football at 68. and of course, yes i am and only recently probably added to other football club that i think nearly two years now so . yeah nearly two years now so. yeah wonderful time really enjoyed every minute of it and the fantastic career i've had and i look back on week the great fondness you look good the 68 really. so you very much . what
5:12 pm
really. so you very much. what would you say then . a lot of would you say then. a lot of people you know, you think you've had a great career. you've done pretty much, you know, reality. your dream is , know, reality. your dream is, you know, reality is your you know, your reality is your dream, is amazing. not dream, which is amazing. not many people get to do that. if you look it, if you look you look back on it, if you look back on it, though, probably back on it, though, and probably loads of will ask you loads of people will ask you this, your biggest this, but your your biggest achievement in achievement or the moment in your life you just, wow, i your life where you just, wow, i can't that this is me. can't believe that this is me. you know, the imposter syndrome suddenly dissipates and you think, actually i'm think, crikey, i'm actually i'm this is me . well, yes. i mean, this is me. well, yes. i mean, i that was getting in the premier league . i think that when my league. i think that when my club that i first first joined at molde one was at 15, they chose for me , come back and meet chose for me, come back and meet him and they sent me to the friendly ultimately when i got them in the premier league that we set out a very good plan , a we set out a very good plan, a very good staff, very good playing staff and found ourselves in the, in the european leagues within four years. so that was a very outstanding achievement . i years. so that was a very outstanding achievement. i think the career took little deep. i'm
5:13 pm
fortunate in being in wrong place at the wrong time with a couple of new owners that came newcastle and blackburn that unfortunately decided to move me . but i mean then the ultimate dream was, which ended up in the poisoned chalice, was been the england job of course you know well person who's football or well person who's in football or manages football. those are one of the top job in the country and. i managed to clinch that. so it didn't last as long as it should have last. and of course the staying was a because it was proven after that i didn't break third party rules and was hosted in the house of commons and the telegraph by our pursuit of some justice in the end which took over two years. so i moved on and osama's palace and moved on to everton so that's well beyond me now i wish england all the best so got this all the in the lads because they are a fantastic team and a fantastic squad. well i was going to say you lasted longer than liz truss . i
5:14 pm
you lasted longer than liz truss. i you lasted longer than liz truss. i you mentioned england to southgate. do you think after this stint, after to think you should be sacked and a lot of people saying, you know what, managers win . i think i managers don't win. i think i think gareth and the if you don't do the well we have to remember that even in our disappointments today the team and the best record since alf ramsey of course so i think we have a squad that's good enough . didn't quite achieve all what it wanted to this time a very close to that but they get more and more experience as time on so this one still got a lot of good football in it and it's up to and i think he decides in self when he reflects on this not too early of course but his disappointment reflects on that with the fake all the i would be highly surprised if they turned around and made the decision on their own and went to gareth and said we're going to look for a new and a manager. i think that
5:15 pm
would be a discussion that they both have outcome will both have and the outcome will be seen by whoever whoever it is. and whenever this meeting is and when ever they reflect on meeting. i mean , while to let meeting. i mean, while to let everything settle down and then look at the situation and then come together and he's got i was going to contact all 3014. so i think the very least he should get the euros in in the next two years. and what about because this particular world cup up being a political rainbow laces there was nay and all this i mean it's just like for goodness sake just play the game what your view on a lot of that so the knee taking the laces people want to do to show what think and what they believe. do you it's necessary . well obviously it's necessary. well obviously people if feel this strongly enough and want to speak up well will speak up but there's a certain point you have to put
5:16 pm
that bed and put it to one side and culture and try it on what the actual facts of the matter is, that it's a world stage and it's the world football stage. we should focus on the football . so i think demonstration died down after the early stages, which i'm glad to say politics really should stay out of football personally , from my football personally, from my point of view and play the beautiful game, you know, so , beautiful game, you know, so, yes, demonstrations will because people may tighten and they continue to obviously when the world cup finished. so, yes , world cup finished. so, yes, it's i'm glad he hasn't spoilt it's i'm glad he hasn't spoilt it in the end because i do. it has been a very good a very world cup and more importantly, i think the entertainment value been very good from all the teams. and i have to say that in doha, qatar, they've put on a terrific show with all those stadiums , perhaps a little on stadiums, perhaps a little on the down side is lots of people , bunch of movie tickets. that was technology seemed to let us
5:17 pm
down forget these barcode ids and get to tickets and get through turnstiles and get everybody in to watch the game. you know , that's probably been you know, that's probably been the most disappointing , i would the most disappointing, i would think . but the most disappointing, i would think. but the coming home there now, football's coming home. they're coming home. they a good job. it's tough now for you there. now you've you've done all this managing and everything else, like that. what is your focus ? my focus is basically focus? my focus is basically only still watching a lot football, doing quite a lot of podcasts on football, of course. been doing it all over the world cup, of course. and talking to people like yourself regarding , people like yourself regarding, the game. and i think that that will obviously continue i like doing that. the media still i've been involved in the media and i think that's a doing that is a great way to pass time keep yourself active. you know so you know if a job comes over of course you would always consider
5:18 pm
that job. of course, for the jobs at the moment to not come in my way. nobody's doing yet . in my way. nobody's doing yet. so one just sits back and waits apart from i have had a few offers but abroad at my age is not for me. i don't want to shift the family of the more concerned to the european country particularly maybe ten or 15 years ago. that would have been great. not for me now. no doubt. don't blame me along. i'm quite like that as well. i'm not going anywhere quite love this country. it's great. and so your podcast , people want to check podcast, people want to check out the podcast . where will they out the podcast. where will they find what they need to look find it? what they need to look out? well, email this with william hill, my podcast. don't know i should advertise know whether i should advertise that i'm about that for you. i'm sorry about that. i shouldn't have done that. i shouldn't have done that. was a lot through uncle that. i was a lot through uncle william hill the way through. so that's continuing, that's still continuing, even though out till though england have got out till the final. so and maybe be on from some great guests, from there some great guests, duncan , sammy, sammy, duncan ferguson, sammy, sammy, ap to read of course , and robbie ap to read of course, and robbie savage lots of others on the way
5:19 pm
so yeah it's been very very good about football i want see sam allardyce lovely to talk to you thank you so much for being my outside guest maybe some time you be to travel to you be prepared to travel to down studio here in london with love to see you in person. thank you much, yes, yes, yes. but you so much, yes, yes, yes. but i do that. it takes today i could do that. it takes today before. so you how it before. okay so tell you how it was a bit more time earlier the train strike as well, by the way, we definitely will do that. we'll that. allardyce, we'll do that. sam allardyce, thank lovely to thank you so much. lovely to talk to you. and sam talk to you. and as sam allardyce former football allardyce is a former football manager was outside on way the great british debate this hour. i'll heat pumps and i'll ask are heat pumps and solar estate solar panels real estate alternatives. office has alternatives. the met office has issued weather warnings as temperatures in could temperatures in the uk could drop as as 12 degrees with drop as low as 12 degrees with the facing extreme weather conditions year are conditions year people are struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter. struggling to afford to heat their homes this winter . the their homes this winter. the cost of living crisis . but all cost of living crisis. but all the heat pumps, the solar panels , trying sell us , they're trying to sell us realistic alternatives. we'll talk about after .
5:20 pm
5:21 pm
5:22 pm
5:23 pm
this coming up to 23 minutes after 5:00, this is gb news. we are the people's channel. we are live on tv , online and on live on tv, online and on digital radio. i'm and it's time for our great british debate this hour. and i'm asking are heat pumps and solar panels alternatives. i mean you seen the weather i mean it's freezing . the met office has issued weather warnings as temperatures in the uk could drop as low as 12 degrees. and with the country facing weather facing extreme weather conditions year people are conditions this year, people are struggling to afford to heat their this cost of living their during this cost of living crisis, which is pushing some families to the choice families to make the choice between heating or , eating, between heating or, eating, bakery solar . actually bakery pumps and solar. actually be . they cope the be realistic. they cope the average solar system for a three bedroom house costs over average solar system for a three bedroom house costs ove r £5,000. bedroom house costs over £5,000. the most installing a heat pump costs averag e £12,000. that's
5:24 pm
costs average £12,000. that's a hefty price tag. so we asked the pubuc hefty price tag. so we asked the public how they feel and, how they are adapting to the cold. earlier today , i think being earlier today, i think being careful. i mean, it's not good when the house gets cold. so it's making sure doors to rooms that aren't used are shot and really trying to keep one or two rooms cosy and not worrying so much about the rest . and, you much about the rest. and, you know, putting on a sweater if it gets. yeah, i quite like being cold, so i'm quite relieved to finally have this cancer. i'm in the heating prices on scene so . the heating prices on scene so. you kind of try and minimise that as much as you can so the great british debate this hour, i'm asking heat pumps and solar panels. realistically tarnished. i'm joined now by physicist and engineer brian katz and also former lead labour minister denis macshane and also senior mutual just jim dale. right i'm going to start with you . brian going to start with you. brian katz, talk to me about this. solar panels, heat pumps, this appears to be what they're telling us to use. is it realistic? would cope with this current weather? well first of
5:25 pm
all, some of the solar panels are not going to do any heating for you, only going to generate electricity when you need most. electricity , cold electricity is in dark, cold times of year, which is when solar panels don't . so to use solar panels don't. so to use solar panels don't. so to use solar panels don't. so to use solar panels in order. solar panels don't. so to use solar panels in order . any solar panels in order. any context ? staying warm or working context? staying warm or working in the winter they have their annual total duty cycle is about 10. so they're just pointless in the winter . at the moment the winter. at the moment there's no solar , obviously, there's no solar, obviously, because it's dark and cold and there's no either. so in fact, we're relying on gas nuclear surprise. but what about heat pumps said, gas pumps pushing us heat which is not heat pumps, which is not something are pushing something that they are pushing us which doesn't us to, something which doesn't actually for people. if you actually work for people. if you are rich and you can have new builds and you can underfloor water heating in, which will work with with the heat pumps , work with with the heat pumps, then that's okay. if you're in traditional house, then it's not effective in the sort of weather conditions. but they do a good job. well, the reason it's not a
5:26 pm
goodideais job. well, the reason it's not a good idea is because no, they especially if they're our source. if you live in flat and you don't have a garden or you're not wealthy , it's going you're not wealthy, it's going to cost you a lot of money. and b, how is it going to work? it's going to be air source, heat pump, which can't really get the water much above 40 degrees. and you're going have to take you're going to have to take your heating and your existing heating system and put water put in an underfloor water system to make your system in order to make your house at all. well, let me ask. jim dale, that nick, is this what is causing this sort of bad weather the moment. is it is weather at the moment. is it is it we would expect for this it what we would expect for this this year? yeah, of this time of year? yeah, lots of if you you've got some in if you can. you've got some in london at the moment falling on you . quite unusual. so but you. quite unusual. so but that's the first though. so london, what's causing is he said from the poles we got high pressure a green and very high pressure a green and very high pressure an intense high pressure an intense high pressure of a rush between that you've got scandinavia. that's where the low pressure was and is and it's island gated itself towards us being squeezed down is the arctic i say the arctic
5:27 pm
parts of the arctic, four or five, six degrees warmer than they should be. it's kind of a they should be. it's kind of a the vortex going wrong. so you get the cold pool coming down. it always it's somewhere. it's over the last week or so it's come down through norway into ourselves. that's the and you're right in your earlier comments, it doesn't as if it's going to go anywhere very quickly. certainly, certainly not for a week anyway does it got anything to do with global warming because we hear about all of this going, why this this going, which is why we're heading these heat we're heading towards these heat pumps is this part pumps and things. is this part of it is that what is that the view as a warm up for the then you've got to say i'm not suggesting for one second that the just because go into it goes down this isn't anywhere near records that that have been established in the past so take yourself back to 2010 11 temperatures were much colder than we're at this moment in time record temperatures 27.2 a long time ago. so no occasionally do get this but .
5:28 pm
occasionally do get this but. what are you going to do with all of this? you've got to join the dots. you can't just look as as as an island, as a kind of individual country and say, you know, yes or no to climate, to climate in this in climate change in this case in such short period. so such a short period. so climatologist meteorologist will look after the event and look at this after the event and decide what went by looking decide what went on by looking at more just uk more just at more just the uk more just western europe see what happening in the arctic at the time , how the influence of the time, how the influence of the oceans around is the sea temperatures at the moment are so so high, the and so you so vast, so high, the and so you you see what's happening. there's a lot to look at. so in your view, do you think that the c02 your view, do you think that the co2 is the issue and that adding move towards this some people and all these sources is definitely the move forward . and definitely the move forward. and for me, it's the move forward is part it's an evolution, not a revolution. i take i'd say brian's points about the difficult is because they do exist and it is our infrastructure you like the way our housing and has been established over the last 30 odd years i would say before you
5:29 pm
even into any of this insulation is probably the number one area that we should be aiming for so that we should be aiming for so that we should be aiming for so that we don't lose the heat that we've got in these houses. and that's why the government and private industry should be should be focus before we get into the solar but that the solar the heat pumps they're part of an equation renewables the green energy if you like you know wind power goes with that c tidal power and other aspects. so it doesn't solve all crimes if that makes but it's certainly the direction that we need to go in. it's a bit like taking the square. we'll lit once existed and making it round and it works better and that's probably what we've got to do with heat pumps and solar and it's just to people really afford stuff. i mean and it doesn't sound like it's effective. dennis so it's very effective. dennis so for me , i'm so, so, so, so, so, for me, i'm so, so, so, so, so, so— for me, i'm so, so, so, so, so, so guys is obviously fascinating , obviously fascinated by because i mean, i can remember delivering paper as a paper boy
5:30 pm
around , the north circular road around, the north circular road andifs around, the north circular road and it's completely frozen over for sort of about week. and i went up down by sledge i also remember sleeping and replacing it with ice hippocampi those days because you know we absolutely can't afford what some private sector businesses want to do which is to get us to install heat pumps, want to do which is to get us to install heat pumps , £12,000 install heat pumps, £12,000 a shot. we have to dig your garden. you can't do it for a flat what we can afford to do is to save as a country i worked in for 20 years. switzerland, you central heating you home insulation it's a look obugafion insulation it's a look obligation on every build here we still have so many ramshackle build is the worst itself of course is the grenfell fire but again again you go in now to properties apartment blocks only build 1015 years ago and if flaky at the edges they're cracking up with all of that but realistically because and what i'm hearing. yes listening to what brian is saying that this actually not very effective and it's going to be difficult for us to that. and a lot of the
5:31 pm
us to do that. and a lot of the sources we're using don't specifically work well specifically work that well in the is it the cold environment. is it actually right direction for actually the right direction for us to be going genuinely? i mean tune i mean brian right. there's sorts of things it is an evolution . eventually we will evolution. eventually we will run and the point really here is eventual we will start to run out of gas, which it will get too expensive, scarce and we need it. too expensive, scarce and we needit.so too expensive, scarce and we need it. so we need alternatives. we've got lot of that. so we will eventually need an by which time should have an by which time we should have built energy to cheap, built nuclear energy to cheap, reliable electrical energy to power heat pumps. reliable electrical energy to power heat pumps . but also we've power heat pumps. but also we've got to the housing stock. you can't insulate sensibly and safely an old fashioned like mine's still quite modern. when i bought it in 1950s but those houses are designed to breathe and water vapour is supposed to through the walls, through the cavity walls and outside. if you try locking them up with foul coating like they have in germany, they get damp very quickly. you then need to put something in the roof to force
5:32 pm
air to circulate through. it's horribly expensive. the houses are not designed to work with heat pumps, so you'd have to turn over the housing stock . turn over the housing stock. now, just think seriously. how old most houses are in uk? that's a lot . a lot of building that's a lot. a lot of building to do. this isn't a this is probably a century re thing rather than even a multi—decade or thing do we do we have to do this then? i mean, do we have to do eventually we should nobody should be forced to do it. that's the other point. and people should not be forced to try to do what the government wants them to do because. it has some carbon some ideology about carbon dioxide emissions. electrification is wonderful, which is not the case. it's only when you don't have an alternate if, which is your point at the start. we do have an alternative. it's called gas . alternative. it's called gas. jim, what you think those are the coal mine? obviously, they're be used for they're going to be used for coking. but ultimately, do you think that we should potentially start of coal start using the rest of our coal before this? because before we get into this? because we've a lot of to do, we've a lot of things to do, we've a lot of things to do, we've to change the housing
5:33 pm
we've got to change the housing stock and even even you acknowledge need to get acknaw'edqeflbshm pee-its get is this acknew'edqeflbstewe eeeéte get is this is this from that. this is this is this is stepping to prehistoric is stepping back to prehistoric times. not quite. you times. almost not quite. but you see know, it's not the see what you know, it's not the direction travel. absolutely direction of travel. absolutely not. renewables not. the focus to be renewables in whatever guise they come in. and look , think we're all in and look, think we're all in agreement on this panel the difficulties in terms of the housing stock and that sort of thing. that doesn't mean you backwards and you know, because that's not the way you do things if you look at other countries and what they do. so solar panels, for example, china, usa, india are the leaders as far as he comes of concern , it tends to he comes of concern, it tends to be the scandinavian countries and norway, sweden, finland are all leading the pack and you can look at places like costa rica , look at places like costa rica, you don't you wouldn't think that sort of top of the pile. but they are there around about 95, 99. renewables they don't use gas in oil leases. 95, 99. renewables they don't use gas in oil leases . and so use gas in oil leases. and so i think it's the direction it's how you face and that's what the problem for the government is
5:34 pm
which way does it want to face. and i think they wants to face one way off if it wants to face the other thing and we need to work that is standing. well i've to thank you because we are running out of time. thank you so much to brian kat also apple minister dennis macshane, also senior jim dale , senior meteorologist jim dale, thank you so much for your thoughts on this is a good thoughts on this. this is a good spotlight online and spotlight live on tv online and on digital radio. coming up, we'll continue with the great british debate this hour. i'm asking, he pumps on solar asking, oh, he pumps on solar panels, alternatives. panels, realistic alternatives. these the of my panel these are the sorts of my panel author broadcaster christine these are the sorts of my panel author also adcaster christine these are the sorts of my panel author also broadcasteristine these are the sorts of my panel author also broadcaster and; hamilton, also broadcaster and journalist kelly . first, journalist danny kelly. first, though, get your latest though, let's get your latest news . not a thank you. news headlines. not a thank you. this is the latest from the gb newsroom. some breaking news this hour. a number of people are believed to be in a critical condition after being pulled from a lake in sully hull, west midlands. police describe . the midlands. police describe. the incident as serious saying emergency services are at babbs mill park in us. it's not yet
5:35 pm
clear how those involved ended up in the water freezing conditions. have more on conditions. we'll have more on this story as we get it too. as the authorities , say, the the authorities, say, the recovery operation after yesterday's explosion will take not days at least three people were killed when a blast ripped through a block of flats in st. no survivors have been found. 12 people are still thought to be . people are still thought to be. the man accused of making bomb that caused the lockerbie disaster is now in us custody . 270 people were killed when a device detonated on pan am flight 103 in december 1988. the department says libyan aguila masood, who's believed to be the third conspirator of the terrorist attack , will make an terrorist attack, will make an initial appearance in a federal court in washington . the nurses court in washington. the nurses union has offered to press pause on strike action if the government agrees to hold talks on pay. the royal college nursing has accused the health

5:39 pm
5:40 pm
good afternoon . this is news. good afternoon. this is news. don't forget to download the gb news app or . why not follow us news app or. why not follow us live on youtube? you can stream the shows . i'm not a choir the shows. i'm not a choir welcome on board where live on tv online and on digital radio. that's just some . but we're that's just some. but we're going to move now to some live pictures now of nasa's orion spacecraft crashing back to earth after its 25 day trip around the moon there is no what's again, this is like this is what happens now. so how far as much as they've got to go parachutes for the benefit of the radio three parachutes. yes that's a good point that the parachutes just gently allow this thing to descend . i've been this thing to descend. i've been introduced you so they don't know you are so for the benefit the radio. why don't you introduce yourself, my friend? at know what will at least you know what will smile face love red and smile face love the red and white red will leave you to a little part of the ground and it's all very atmospheric ocean
5:41 pm
is it landing in the ocean pacific ocean. yes. yes yes, it is . this sort pacific ocean. yes. yes yes, it is. this sort of uncrewed capsule which was designed to carry astronauts , has travelled carry astronauts, has travelled more than 1.4 million miles by go. this is this is splashdown in the pacific ocean is . it in the pacific ocean is. it successful of course, all the time. humans around the moon in 2024. so there you go and the exercise is part of nasa's artemis program, the quest to take people back to the moon later this decade. fittingly today marks exactly 50 years since this feat was last achieved by the crew. apollo so that you guys did you see that that you guys did you see that that was live that happened now . right in fact great. but . right so in fact great. but just beat this out i'm asking just to beat this out i'm asking you are heat pumps and, solar panels, mystic alternatives met office that office has said that temperatures lows temperatures could drop to lows of —12 degrees with the uk facing weather facing. extreme weather conditions . people are conditions. people are struggling to afford to heat their hands during this winter cost of living crisis . that's cost of living crisis. that's pushing to pushing some families to make the between heating the choice between heating or eating with green eating and that with green alternatives us a fortune are
5:42 pm
heat pumps and solar panels really way forward. so what do you think our great british debate this hour. i'm asking you exactly question . let's see exactly that question. let's see what my panel make of that . i'm what my panel make of that. i'm joined fabulous danny joined by the fabulous danny kelly . i didn't say your name so kelly. i didn't say your name so it's whatever came to mind adjective , the amazing chris adjective, the amazing chris hamilton. let's start with the fabulous danny kaye . on books. fabulous danny kaye. on books. she's just thrilled . and then. she's just thrilled. and then. well, look, i actually has all your what you are personally. i think that you know if you've got a if you live in a listed house listed building the fact christine live in a building that's got be as the mediaeval house and we can't do anything that permission we would not be allowed to have a heat you wouldn't you wouldn't allow the council wouldn't allow like council wouldn't allow you like a or the a fridge freezer or the equivalent poking out equivalent size poking out of first window. yeah so you first floor window. yeah so you are going to freeze death. so are going to freeze to death. so what is your. i have a very simple solution. we all go for it. have a we have a lot of
5:43 pm
it. we have a we have a lot of draughty windows which don't. but that to a but in the winter that to a certain extent you need a trough. that's one of the troubles with some modern houses they no don't have they have no they don't have enough as fascinating. they have no they don't have en0|carry as fascinating. they have no they don't have en0|carry for s fascinating. they have no they don't have en0|carry forthescinating. they have no they don't have en0|carry for the rest|ting. you carry on for the rest i stick kitchen paper the worst cracks and it out again in cracks and pull it out again in the spring but we need the spring but no we need alternative heat pumps are vastly expensive they're for the very few who afford it, very few who can afford it, despite fact the is going to despite the fact the is going to give of 5000. but most give a grant of 5000. but most they're completely off the spectrum . your personal spectrum. your personal financial and also they financial spectrum and also they are going to be before you begin to get any money back any any entity back on your investment of the heat pump they're going to be obsolete. so people who are doing it now, frankly , are are doing it now, frankly, are crazy that it's the second most that cheese you need to that gets the cheese you need to wait the heat pumps wait for the better heat pumps but got to do something but i mean for example these are the figures okay wind 2% figures for today okay wind 2% of our needs solar , 4% of our of our needs solar, 4% of our needs. nuclear percent co 3. gas, 56. and then there's
5:44 pm
another very interesting one called interconnect motors. we got 15% of our energy needs from interconnect does that means countries like france, ireland, norway, who surplus but they can decide to shut that off just in a moment like the pandemic if they need it they need it. so we've got to do something. but i really don't think heat pumps are the answer yet. we need to go on. we need to build more nuclear reactors, small, modular nuclear reactors, small, modular nuclear reactors, small, modular nuclear reactors can be nuclear reactors that can be built cost a lot built quickly don't cost a lot of they be dropped in of money. they can be dropped in as and the way get that as modules. and the way get that donein as modules. and the way get that done in your view on that then christine's our big fan of christine's been our big fan of nuclear power. christine me too. i'm a massive fan of nuclear. in fact, since the day the nuclear power in, i always have power plants in, i always have to test myself mentally before i say it's yes , yes, yes. you've say it's yes, yes, yes. you've got it always got to go off a little bit extra to make sure i france i believe they a lot of their nuclear power plants and one thing that we've learned since the invasion of ukraine in february this year is the fact
5:45 pm
that we need alternatives we do we need safe alternatives and unfortunately people have pandered to a group people who who don't want us to use nuclear power. and they will always say look what's happened in chernobyl over all gas. what's up with the fukushima? the politicians, they just crumble under the pressure of the moment think there is a point that you have to be careful with these reactors because when it does go wrong, it goes to emphatically wrong, it goes to emphatically wrong and catastrophic wrong and causes catastrophic events. so we do have to be very mindful of nuclear it. is not this one thing that fits all and it's not the one thing that is the big solution, because potentially you have the opportunity terrorism opportunity for terrorism with something well, so something like that as. well, so we be realistic when we have to be realistic when we're power we're choosing these power sources . and also nuclear isn't sources. and also nuclear isn't without issues because . without its own issues because. of course, you need uranium and uranium is mined places like uranium is mined in places like niger west and other of niger in west and other parts of the and where those the world. and where those uranium are . the uranium mines are. the environment for those people is devastating. so we have to be careful now we need to widen our base , i suppose in a way you
5:46 pm
base, i suppose in a way you might say heat pumps a part might say heat pumps are a part of to we need do of that. we need to we need do more gas exploration because we're not gas supplies are we're not our gas supplies are running haven't running out. we haven't put enough more gas enough money into into more gas fields. we should be doing that. but i mean you know, heat pumps in a way, they're a new technology. so it's years, the line decades that probably be. but available for but they're not available for long. you live in a block of flats. you don't have any ground. you can't have a ground. so you can't have a ground. so you can't have a ground pump. can only ground heat pump. you can only have power which to have an air power which has to be to the side of your be tacked on to the side of your flat, which is pretty unsightly. put it out because this is a bit like satellite dishes. they would gossip banana bread needs , but it's the very it's for , but it's for the very it's for the very. it really is at the moment. yeah well, let's let's see what think of this. see what you think of this. there nothing without them. there is nothing without them. let's great precious let's welcome a great precious voices to voices on their opportunity to us. think about the us. what they think about the topics we're discussing today. i've four right let's start i've got four right let's start with who's exactly with only three. who's exactly is scott brown? duke. and he's there in the middle brown digging you can digging in. sully how you can start off. i nana. how are start us off. i nana. how are you? good, thank you gordon
5:47 pm
brown . well, i do agree. we do brown. well, i do agree. we do need to start weaning ourselves off what we're reliant upon at the moment . off what we're reliant upon at the moment. i'm not sure that they are economically viable right now . brian carr also right now. brian carr also earlier made the very valid point in terms the solar panels , you know, at the time that we might want the most, they're not really going to work at this time of year in this country, in this climate . do have friends this climate. do have friends nano who you have to cut their energy bills by solar panels that double the required insulin and they have an air heat pump with zoned heating and i think it was mechanical ventilation and they have their energy built so they would be great advocates but i'm a little sceptical that we can do, we can across right now. i don't think it's economical everybody you know thank you for that brian. let's get to miranda richardson. you know the miranda richardson the one miranda
5:48 pm
one in northamptonshire. miranda was only one other. i think was the only one other. i think what there the things were missed in this is actually at the moment the current designs are out there don't have a very long shelf life 15 years. so you know you might go through lot of expense of installing to not actually have the very and it was a little bit like christine says second mouse gets says you the second mouse gets the waiting for the cheese you just waiting for that meant that's a more that that meant that's a more reliable bit to come i think we need initially we need to start people as to how to insulate properly and just you know small installation and cavity insulation things like that but . you know, my pub scraped you listed very cold up stairs, sash windows . you know, we've had windows. you know, we've had some of the cellophane to the windows , you know. so of course windows, you know. so of course now to stop the draft. yeah yeah, curtains . now to stop the draft. yeah yeah, curtains. i'm going to now to stop the draft. yeah yeah, curtains . i'm going to get yeah, curtains. i'm going to get a couple now, you know, signs and things and all these modern things. they keep the it , and things and all these modern things. they keep the it, you know. well miranda, thank you
5:49 pm
for that. let's get a doctor session especially, you know , session especially, you know, there in milton keynes, you'll hear very he got 30 seconds. good evening then. i guess i agree with most of the panel. i agree with most of the panel. i agree that it's not a viable and effective options to have panels as well as pumps. it's going to be costly in majority of people are not going to be able to afford it it will only provide heat. and if and solar only provide 11% of electricity is not enough as it. provide 11% of electricity is not enough as it . yeah thank you not enough as it. yeah thank you session has got to lay in why you live luton i'm in bexley now no okay go with the house. what they do and how they pump . and i they do and how they pump. and i don't actually provide heat in central hay and they take about six, seven, eight, i believe now , you already know what i'm saying thankfully i've missed last year where. you know, i've had treatment for cancer i know
5:50 pm
that treatment with my metabolism, which i feel with the cold more if i have this phase, you know i'm just going to be afraid having wear on anyhow and that's on a personal level and. so i tried to stick with my dad, which gives me a nice, toasty warm house. yeah, right. but it's already got the cold for my recovery. it's cheaper as well. thank you very much. was me in bedford in london. northamptonshire in solihull and certainly in keynes. well, let's quickly turn our attention to the world cup, england. they in their quarterfinal, two one yesterday against france . to talk all against france. to talk all things football. i'm joined by gb reporter paul hawkins gb news reporter paul hawkins who's qatar for us now. who's there in qatar for us now. i've got a bit of qatar . paul, i've got a bit of qatar. paul, what's it like ? talk to me. what's it like? talk to me. what's going on? what's the vibe 7 what's going on? what's the vibe ? it's good. yeah. it's about 830 in the evening here in the city and it's really, really, really busy. but very few england fans , a lot of them have england fans, a lot of them have left for dubai, flown back to
5:51 pm
the uk. indeed, the england team itself is already flying back to the uk jude bellingham, talking to the press was briefly saying to the press was briefly saying to the press was briefly saying to the press, england to the press, just the england coach left the hotel saying, stick with . and that's his stick with. and that's his message to england fans following their exit to france last night. harry kane also tweeting earlier, the way, tweeting earlier, by the way, that was absolutely. it that he was absolutely. and it came small . that came down to a small. that penalty which he excuse me which he takes for and he says england be stronger and better for it in future when they get to the championships if they qualify of course in two years time. is how england fans have been reacting . last night's exit from the world cup and they they've been knocked out of a major tournament probably one who i think will look back on it. we were to beat france who would have on to win. but it's have went on to win. but it's a half game last night is just one eve away. honestly, the game could take it away and. either way, the whole thing is nip and tuck, but you've got to take your chances and i don't think we did that well enough. france
5:52 pm
for clinical and i go i'm for clinical and i would go i'm a early unfortunately but a week early unfortunately but you we've you know that's england we've been know what to been here before we know what to expect and we've had three expect so and we've had three great here spend it great weeks out here spend it with great friends , had with some great friends, had some marvellous weather, some food wonderful food and some wonderful hospitality . and i think we'll hospitality. and i think we'll look back the photos and the look back at the photos and the videos and media appearances videos and the media appearances . realise a great . realise we've had a great time. you know it's not all negative this morning whether we stays or whether he goes. i'm a bit ambivalent if he stays good, if he decides call it a day, it's okay . it if he decides call it a day, it's okay. it is if he decides call it a day, it's okay . it is it if he decides call it a day, it's okay. it is it is. he it's okay. it is what it is. he might feel that now that we've been eliminated at the quarter final , it's a been eliminated at the quarter final, it's a bit of a step back from the previous you know, in terms of people going about progression, we got semi—final progression, we got a semi—final then go to the final of the then to go to the final of the euros and i think people saw the natural progression to natural progression would be to winning and i think that will regret this morning so england play regret this morning so england play italy next march to start the european championship qualifying will gareth southgate be then . he's remained be manager then. he's remained tight his features for tight lipped on his features for the cup. the two the world cup. the two semi—finals is coming up on
5:53 pm
wednesday croatia wednesday we've got croatia against argentina then against argentina and then morocco france , morocco, morocco against france, morocco, the first african team to qualify for the of the world cup are two matches away from winning the world cup. and you don't have to be a football expert to realise what a complete shock that be in complete shock that would be in political. like the political. it would be like the lib dems winning the general election. that's going election. well, that's not going never happen. thank you never going to happen. thank you very to talk very much. who? somebody to talk to? know. they still to? i don't know. they still exist. they're still in exist. they're still living in the white house. right now, though, for though, it's time for a supplement day. this is the part of show my panel of the show where my panel discuss of the stories that discuss some of the stories that caught start with caught on. let's start with christine. christine got something about the hairy bikers. well, yes i was delighted to see what i didn't see it on the television. the hairy dave is back on. hairy dave myers is back on. he's a year of terrible he's had a year of terrible cancer , had treatment. he's lost cancer, had treatment. he's lost all his hair for a biker is the ultimate nightmare . so he's come ultimate nightmare. so he's come back, he's looking rather hair. this and i just thought it was a heartwarming story because he said i can't pretend otherwise. there were times i didn't think
5:54 pm
i'd be here for christmas money is good. welcome back day. welcome, welcome. welcome back . welcome, welcome. welcome back. let's go to our form story now just known as a biker. now just a bike is a biker non hairy danny volleyed marley and headley course so now you'd know who goes he a small lame basically if you believe that she was troublemaking and confrontational and almost race baiting, if that's your view. well, it's backfired it because unfortunately because of the onune unfortunately because of the online abuse she's received what she said her opponents she said she said her opponents she said she would have now had to actually cease the assistance yeah so it's backfired on us somewhat or if you look at it the way round highlighting racism bigots is forced to close down temporarily her charity to not waste to highlight racism that makes it automatic nobody was racist fool so i agree with nobody's fault i agree anything at the end of the day you know if bring things to the forefront
5:55 pm
especially in the mainstream media that you yourself will be also in the school how it goes. oh, you know you listen i my one then because my one obviously you know this is all about and meghan loved all that. yes. meghan i loved all that. yes. the final three episodes, the infamous harry and documentary will extent of meg will cover the extent of meg seats. i'm looking forward to that. a in the that. there's a story in the metro about harry being told to stay away . king charles, stay away. king charles, coronation. we have. harry coronation. yes we have. harry and meghan completely burned the with the royal family. christine, you think they christine, do you think they should stay away? i'm afraid i do i think they've they've brought themselves do i think they've they've brou danny, themselves do i think they've they've brou danny, before themselves do i think they've they've brou danny, before the 1selves do i think they've they've brou danny, before the bridges, 100, danny, before the bridges, the that bridge torch. the torch, that bridge torch. that is terrible . them to that bridge is terrible. them to be sitting in congregation be sitting in the congregation at the coronation. we caught up on stage. so we've been asking do believe labour will crack do you believe labour will crack down on unions? according down on trade unions? according to twitter poll, 5% you to our twitter poll, 5% of you say yes and 95% don't believe a word . thank so much to word. what? thank you so much to my panel, the broadcaster and author christine hamilton, and also broadcaster and journalist kelly for joining also broadcaster and journalist kelly forjoining me also broadcaster and journalist kelly for joining me very much indeed.
