3:05 pm
get wallpaper getting rid of successive home secretaries think we're on number seven now changing the leader and basically living in a westminster bubble. both the labour and tory party have as bad as each other. the guilty as sin with this. this between their policies and they messed about like schoolkids arguing in the playground at school. the problem remained. it was the problem remained. it was the problem of illegal channel crossing and it on track directly in my view , the directly in my view, the political wranglings and the perfect distraction from not doing any actual work and the perfect for people traffickers to go under the radar. perfect for people traffickers to go under the radar . a record to go under the radar. a record number of people , the channel to number of people, the channel to arrive in the uk in small boats in 2022 more than 45,000. that's a 60% increase from the previous yeah a 60% increase from the previous year. and those are the ones that we know who've risked their lives making that dangerous journey and why .7 well, it's journey and why.7 well, it's obvious, isn't it .7 hotel obvious, isn't it.7 hotel accommodation and they'll probably get treated a lot quicker than us by nhs. also, theresa, anti—slavery laws and
3:06 pm
an industry of human rights lawyers. basically, once get here, you've got to hope that going bob hope no . and a large going bob hope no. and a large proportion of them coming well nato country albania . the nato country albania. the government promised tough measures to stop the flow of boats and crack on the people smugglers and also they came up with the rwanda, which hasn't really got off the ground. know it's an obvious pun and it seems to me that now more more people are arriving in fewer boats. last year, the number was up to 41. now it's gone up to 545 people packed into small boat . a people packed into small boat. a government spokeswoman said the global migration crisis is causing unprecedented strain on. our asylum system. you don't say the plan to use this cruise ships another being floated around right now which could house the asylum a is just these plans and the government are due to spend about 2.3 billion a year on hotels. it is a total mess. rishi you need to get a
3:07 pm
handle on this. otherwise you're toast and the figures are shocking. more than 45,000 people crossing the channel. it would callous. the figures include 90 people crossing the channel on christmas day in two boats. bad weather conditions meant that there were no crossings in the run up to new yeah crossings in the run up to new year. then over the past year, we've had three home secretary priti patel , grant we've had three home secretary priti patel, grant shapps and now braverman . each of now suella braverman. each of them tried to tackle the them are tried to tackle the crisis that's been the rwanda plan then minister rishi plan. then prime minister rishi sunak announcing legislation sunak announcing new legislation designed make it for migrants designed to make it for migrants to uk if they are to stay in the uk if they are coming from safe countries like albania. so i'm as record numbers migrants crossing the channel last year. how do we ensure that we don't get the same amount of people coming across this year. so same amount of people coming across this year . so before we across this year. so before we get stuck into debate, here's what else is coming up today. we will start with the great british debate the some shocking figures. as i said , 5000 people figures. as i said, 5000 people crossed the english channel
3:08 pm
small boats in 2022, which last year or yesterday . it's the year or yesterday. it's the largest number ever , up 60% on largest number ever, up 60% on the year before. and this hour i'm asking how can we stop the flood of people coming across the channel? also how we reach tipping point when it to climate change. provisional figures from the met office 2020 will be the warmest year on record in the uk . although our question when those records began. temperatures reached their highest ever in the country at just over 40 degrees, which in some isn't actually that hot . is some isn't actually that hot. is this the year that we reached tipping point when it comes to climate change? stay with me this hour. tell me what you think as ever and everything we're email we're discussing email gbviews@gbnews.uk or tweet me at . gbviews@gbnews.uk or tweet me at. gb approaching 9 minutes after 4:00. let's get started let's welcome again to my panel. lois perry, director of got 26. peter edwards, the former editor of
3:09 pm
the list, and steven pound, former labour mp. right. so we'll start with the record number of crossings. i'm going to start with you, steve. thank you for that call. next, i wanna hear what you have to say about happy new year. happy new year. i“lappy i“lappy happy new year. happy new year. happy happy it. happy new year. happy open it. i“lappy happy new year. happy open it. happy new year. happy open it. happy new to everybody. happy new you have a nice new year. do you have a nice one?i new year. do you have a nice one? i stated. it's was one? i stated. yeah, it's was really. yeah but a really. yeah but you took a bottle champagne me. bottle of champagne on me. i stayed and i thought i saw stayed on and i thought i saw you on thames as surrounded you on the thames as surrounded drones fireworks that would drones and fireworks that would be it something sparkly. be me. it was something sparkly. no, there's a of things we no, look, there's a of things we can this immigration. firstly can do this immigration. firstly you not going away. you know, it's not going away. ludicrous rwanda is ludicrous like rwanda ruined is a destruction it's a destruction and it's a nonsense israelis they a destruction and it's a non theye israelis they a destruction and it's a non they put israelis they a destruction and it's a non they put israelpeopleey a destruction and it's a non they put israelpeople in put they put 4000 people in rwanda. stayed there for rwanda. they stayed there for half and they all half an hour and then they all disappeared. what we need to do is firstly anyone comes to this country needs to country illegally needs to actually in a processing actually be held in a processing centre. they're not centre. well, they're not they're being they're not they're being dispersed country. dispersed all over the country. well, hold well, they're trying to hold them government. secondly them that government. secondly fingerprints. need id fingerprints. we really need id cards in this country. fingerprints. we really need id cards in this country . and we're cards in this country. and we're one of the few countries in
3:10 pm
europe that do not have id cards at moment get id you've at the moment you get id you've managed get through queue managed to get through the queue wherever boston or wherever you go boston or somewhere. get a job in the car wash. after five years, you apply something called a apply for something called a regularisation of overstayers and your and you're home free. keep your head lobby. look, head down and you lobby. look, there's economic pool i don't there's an economic pool i don't deny that there's deny for a minute that there's a push factor and we're sure push factor and we're not sure about people albania. i've about people from albania. i've been to albania many times. it's a decent, safe place. a decent, clean, safe place. people afghanistan, from people from afghanistan, from korea from syria, from iraq. there people who there are those people who are actually out. and actually being pushed out. and i think have to differentiate think we have to differentiate them those people whom them from those people for whom they that this they actually thinking that this is operation. and is a commercial operation. and if had id cards, then we if we had id cards, then we could simply go to the car wash and say, you know, let's see, see eyes. come on, let's listen. you can put an id. card. you can forge a passport. i'm going until card. more until id. card. id. card. more control, more power, more control. power . i control, more power, more control. power. i do agree control. more power. i do agree with you actually about a place where people are held and they are processed. so they're not dispersed throughout the country. them. the country. never see them. the problem cards is it problem with id. cards is it just people that are just be the people that are coming here legally that
3:11 pm
coming over here legally that have them. it'll you. have got them. it'll be you. it'll it'll be of us. but it'll be it'll be all of us. but you anyway. what do you you don't anyway. what do you mean? are locked in your what mean? if are locked in your what you have like four or five id cards. okay, but i don't have to present somebody asked me present it. if somebody asked me to, have to. and to, which you would have to. and after second war, after the second world war, there special case there was very special case because basically id cards were kept for quite a long time and this stopped and it was this guy was stopped and it was asked papers and asked to present his papers and actually it court. and actually took it to court. and he actually overturned in he actually got it overturned in court because they kept because what happened government what happened is the government retains it had retains these powers that it had them when the crisis is them back when the crisis is oven them back when the crisis is over. no i'm against i.d. over. so no i'm against i.d. cuts, but am do like the idea cuts, but i am do like the idea of having everybody in a secure place . but that to me is place. but that to me is straightforward. that's what want be kept in. want people to be kept in. secure. yeah not so secure. okay. yeah i'm not so fussed about cards. what fussed about id. cards. what i mean, think is power, mean, i think is more power, more i believe more control. but i believe i mean, if you look at your driving, it's got your it's got your home address, everything. i never licence in never keep my driving licence in my well i do keep my wallet. peter well i do keep my wallet. peter well i do keep my driving licence, my wallet . my driving licence, my wallet. so i i was very interested so i think i was very interested to hear what steve said because
3:12 pm
of course actually if i'm stopped a police officer stopped by a police officer while have to show while driving, i do have to show them my licence. so it's them my driving licence. so it's not just a discretionary thing at the moment whereas i don't have to show my bank card to anyone. course these are anyone. but of course these are not because not not cards because i'm not obuged not cards because i'm not obliged to carry my driving licence. yeah, but most licence. but yeah, but most of us honest, steve is us do, to be honest, steve is perhaps liberated the perhaps liberated because of the role has now . i don't think role he has now. i don't think there's an appetite a among any party in commons to have i.d. party in commons to have id. cards so i can't see it happening any time soon. i was very intrigued it's a topic on the broader topic of the channel crossings. i've been challenged a lot on some gb news in about six months ago labour were calling much closer cooperation with france and that was perhaps dismissed as a bit wishy washy or insufficient . but then that or insufficient. but then that was one of the things that the new prime minister announced a few months later, because if regardless being a global regardless of being a global issue, if seaborne migrants coming through france, it just seems completely logical that we'd cooperate as a french government. well, i it was more
3:13 pm
the fact that we didn't to be getting the cooperation because it they said. it didn't really what they said. no, no , i'm not i'm not no, no, no, i'm not i'm not blaming anyone. just saying blaming anyone. i'm just saying that wishlist. think that it was a wishlist. i think that it was a wishlist. i think that everybody better cooperation. don't cooperation. i don't think that's was that's something that was exclusive party. exclusive to the labour party. i think was a wishlist that we all wanted that. but seemed that there was a they didn't like bofis there was a they didn't like boris preferred boris they preferred wishy washy. saw him and the washy. you saw him and the bromance and macron. bromance between him and macron. so like why so it looks like that's why we're getting better. but imagine were the mayor imagine if you were the mayor dieppe, of paddock dieppe, or the mayor of paddock calais or malcolm or someone like and you've 2000 like that. and you've got 2000 people actually hell people living in actually hell hole, the there. hole, you know, on the there. are to yes will are you going to say yes will address issue we will address this issue we will sort this no at all or would this no trouble at all or would we say, you know on the boat, can we help you? obviously, of course. you. so do you course. so thank you. so do you think has there any think that has any is there any evidence any of those evidence that any of those people the jungle ever people in the jungle has ever been sent from france to been sent back from france to another country? because i can't see any data yet . see i can't see any data yet. why on earth aren't they being sent back? because the french are punishing us for leaving the eu that's simplistic. eu. that's a bit simplistic. well, it's little simplistic, well, it's a little simplistic, but when look at
3:14 pm
but it's like when you look at the in terms of when you arrive in countries, through in other countries, go through customs you customs and everything, you know, the airports, we allow people from the east straight people from the east go straight through. punishing through. they're all punishing us extremely small minded us in the extremely small minded way queue with way by making us queue up with all international all the other international arrivals, petty . but the arrivals, it's petty. but the thing , why are people coming thing is, why are people coming to the uk and not staying in france is because it's made totally inhospitable in france for them. there's no they're not them up in hotels i've moved into apartment recently and into this apartment recently and camden is a no call zone which means you can't be given a permit if you've got a car in camden. so i thought, why our park in the local hotel? and they said that was fine. they said, but we tell you that it just been taken over by a private company and it's 100. private company and it's100. this is hampstead, it's100. and it's full of refugees. albania refugees. just want you to make you aware. so france aren't doing that? no, no. nobody's doing that? no, no. nobody's doing that. so no, no one. look, why are doing this, peter? it seems very nonsensical warehousing people in hotels, some them you've seen some
3:15 pm
really, really nice hotels. yeah the homes that were up for grabs as well we can't people here in this country afford to do that. we got a cost of living crisis. some people often oh, but they're getting only £30 a day or week sort of or £3 month a week sort of thing. then you've no thing. but then you've got no bills. you've cost of food, bills. you've no cost of food, you've and go in and you've got no and they go in and see. a lot of people are going into all people, obviously. into not all people, obviously. i generalisations but i don't generalisations but there is a large been there is a large amount been well reported going into well reported are going into activities you don't activities so you don't necessarily 30 credit day necessarily to 30 credit day or whatever probably necessarily to 30 credit day or whatevthose probably necessarily to 30 credit day or whatevthose pofiably necessarily to 30 credit day or whatevthose pof those don't access those some of those don't come out with 30 quid profit a day you know we you day because you know we know you know, we speak nonsense block booking is not the booking hotels is not the answer. that's answer. and i think that's actually everyone it's actually bad for everyone it's short termist which perhaps a government and i don't make everything party political but it perhaps typifies government has been reluctant have has been reluctant to have a term solution expert blow up hotels is expensive it is not good for taxpayers but actually it's not good for the poor souls. come across souls. they've come across because you've come because if you're if you've come and regardless of the pull factors crossing channel on a
3:16 pm
boatin factors crossing channel on a boat in darkness in the winter it would be a terrifying some people are bringing their children so why did why did i tell i want but a hotel is not going to deal with the health needs or the emotional needs or the economic needs of anyone who's done that. well, i don't know about that. i mean, they obviously have a processing centre things are centre things and there are people who them in and people who clock them in and they those but they do well. those are. but i discovered, you know, i just got it done something actually it done on something actually extraordinary at a food bank. i was talking some in the was talking some people in the food week. they said food bank this week. they said we problem with we got a real problem with disposable nappies. i said, disposable nappies. and i said, what do you mean you get what do you mean you don't get enough? said, no, no. people enough? i said, no, no. people are up taking them are coming up and taking them and them. and and then reselling them. and these who got these are people who haven't got children. so, children. oh, yeah. and so, i mean, you know, on the one hand, ihave mean, you know, on the one hand, i have to get voucher to go to a food. yes, but you're. well, yeah. but you know, people yeah. but you know, the people i say no, no, you can't i mean told you i was an mp. i'd give somebody voucher to go, but i didn't say prove that got didn't say prove that you've got to. point on the one to. but the point on the one hand, i can imagine some people
3:17 pm
might say that's a marvellous entrepreneur coming might say that's a marvellous en and'eneur coming might say that's a marvellous en and nicking coming might say that's a marvellous en and nicking nappies, coming might say that's a marvellous en and nicking nappies, flogging in and nicking nappies, flogging him other hand, it him off. on the other hand, it says to me that we've got a system is not fit for system that is not fit for purpose. well, the whole thing is, is open to abuse. even the food saying whole way. food bank saying the whole way. we've in hotel we've got people in hotel loans, i that's just i mean, that's just unacceptable. i suggested the cruise and a couple cruise ships and then a couple of weeks later, suella braverman you floated the idea, you you floated the idea, did you like the that cruise ships like the idea that cruise ships are i mean, somebody are good? i mean, somebody pointed you that, pointed out that you do that, then set fire the then they might set fire to the ship, then people will jump. but you could say that about the whole that about whole you can't say that about anything. just anything. so i think it just happened. what think happened. i mean, what do think what you think what peter, what do you think about idea of cruise and about the idea of cruise and staying cruise ships? that's why they're scotland at the they're doing in scotland at the moment. my moment. yeah, well with my criticism government, criticism of the government, was the in the is temporary we'll put in someone ship is even someone on a cruise ship is even more and exactly if more temporary and exactly if the go is you assimilate people life a chance to life and give them a chance to work well they can't do that stuck ocean stuck the middle of the ocean but supposed to be but we're supposed to be discouraging over as discouraging from coming over as economic come economic migrants always come in. them to don't in. you want them to go? don't want in. we're not want them to come in. we're not talking refugees. talking about refugees. we're talking about refugees. we're talking migrants talking about economic migrants primarily.
3:18 pm
talking about economic migrants primthere's different routes to that there's different routes to come country. come into this country. people i mean, i've albania. mean, i've flown albania. i always thought i always always thought this. i always was. i always wait i was. i was i always wait when i mouth . i talk. if you just sort mouth. i talk. if you just sort of welcome on board this is a gb news where live on tv online and on digital radio. i'm nana akua now, after the break, we'll be discussing where the tipping point for climate change. and i want to hear what you think about that. email gb news. gbnews.uk. what you think can also tweet me gb news. got a pull up right now asking the question with regard to climate change. but first, let's get your weather .

3:21 pm
3:22 pm
says coming up to 23 minutes after 3:00. this is gb news on tv online and on digital radio. don't forget as well you can also stream us live on youtube. right. let's have a quick look at what you've been saying. we
3:23 pm
were discussing all about the old migrant crisis. now says last i looked, we had a royal navy equipped with troop ships, landing craft ships, able to take take through the stern , who take take through the stern, who needs hotel rooms, cruise ships . it's about time someone group hands stop these illegal immigrants midship took photos, fingerprints and dna swap before returning them back to the nearest french beach jails, however, says how can the government solve anything when they are on holiday than the schools while the rest of the british public works the country keeping ? things moving. shame on keeping? things moving. shame on the as they have highlighted you actually this country functioning the british people i know how many holidays these people they work on a private system that's why they work in the harvest system . they close the harvest system. they close down so they can help with the. no, no it's the grouse shooting season. that's why kids say pubuc season. that's why kids say public schools. that's great. it isn't good. the grace . right isn't good. the grace. right well let's get into the great british debate this hour and i'm
3:24 pm
asking are we at point or with climate change the environment editor of the guardian, damien carrington wrote in his review of 2022 that we are another mile on the highway to climate. how . on the highway to climate. how. was that read in the guardian yeah it must be must be tells appreciate it. well you though the current situation was described as a global crisis another one and it seems from words that we'll be wiped out very soon if we don't take immediate action. fair point maybe they go from first the met office as the 2022 was the hottest year on record . the uk hottest year on record. the uk by value of the average temperatures. so for the great british debate this out i'm asking are we a tipping for climate change? well, i'm joined now by senior lecturer in sustainable and climate change, john grant . john, welcome . well, john grant. john, welcome. well, this is more a knife edge. that's what saying tipping point is all we're to have the hang up . what do you mean? because this is apparently the hottest year
3:25 pm
since records began. why? why that the case? and what are we using to measure measure by well i mean we it's not a surprise that we've been talking about this for 30 odd years and people have been laughing it off obviously planetary they take quite while to change but they get moving that kind of continues as well. so it shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that, you know, the laws of physics say that as you keep the amount of carbon dioxide , the amount of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and the knock on effects of water vapour , all of that that we're we're experiencing a much warmer world and, you know, awesome as going through through i mean the most recent summit was a so exemplify this but not only the summer you know in november although think most of us have forgotten it because it was so cold in the part you know we were at 21
3:26 pm
degrees and remember it sun in wales parts of wales it's very but we've got this flickering effect as well where we experience it's really cold. look at america that's dragged down all of this arctic air over it . and, you know, we could it. and, you know, we could theoretically have a similar experience over here . this is experience over here. this is this is all been predicted . i this is all been predicted. i mean, it's just unfortunately that, you know , that statement that, you know, that statement from the guardian is that, you know, we ignore this at our peril . i know, we ignore this at our peril. i mean , okay, so okay. so peril. i mean, okay, so okay. so i mean, you ought to remember the summer before this one and that wasn't so great. and obviously, the way i mean, and some winters are hotter than others. i mean, how how long have these records been going on for? look for? because i think if you look at the global earth and the world larger thing. haven't world is a larger thing. haven't we up through these and we gone up through these and troughs throughout the existence of the planet? yeah. yeah absolutely . the planet is always
3:27 pm
absolutely. the planet is always changing and that is often given as a reason why we should ignore the current shift. but. but what? you need to put into that is the speed of the change and previous extremes that we are aware of . so it was a little bit aware of. so it was a little bit warmer in mediaeval times around , but not across the world. and the thing is that over the last 10,000 years or so, we have been relics at least stable , about relics at least stable, about 1 degrees warmer or 1 degrees cooler than than an average. now, what got at the moment that we're at 1.2 over 1.2 is an average. as an average . average. as an average. remember. so there are parts of the world significantly warmer and other parts cooler or stable, but but the speed of change it is the speed change that we're experiencing but we really haven't seen in the geologic record and that that's where, you know, the concern
3:28 pm
comes from the scientists it's not the world is changing. yes the world could change. it is the world could change. it is the fact that we are pushing this with our accelerator firmly on the pedal going down this road. and we're doing very rapidly. and that gives us a real challenge to adapt to this changing world and you know and this flicker of extreme heat and extreme , i think the one that extreme, i think the one that you see is adapt, isn't it? we don't talk or is pictured , so don't talk or is pictured, so the world is set, then adapt is adapt to the change, not necessarily try and stop it because i don't know how much power we really genuinely have to. that is to. stop something that is changing, which be changing, which would be changing, which would be changing you're it's changing anyway. but you're it's changing anyway. but you're it's changing than it would changing quicker than it would normally you also said normally. and you also said since previous records we are aware of course that is that we do not really have a real we don't really know , do we? and is don't really know, do we? and is climate actually something that you can really strictly predict? is the planet not something just like someone's mood? you can't really tell what it's going to
3:29 pm
do. there's a feedback to it. what you do might make do what you do might make it do something different. so with this changing of co2 this changing the amount of co2 and my encourage and stuff, my encourage something different could something different which could be is there any in be worse is that is there any in your modelling anything your modelling is there anything that factors in if the planet doesn't do what we're expecting it . well of course . i mean it to do. well of course. i mean these are people's entire lives spent studying the output of the sun . what is what is around that sun. what is what is around that 7 sun. what is what is around that ? we know what the background should be because we play these models backward first before projecting them forwards to see whether they when you run , whether they when you run, whether they when you run, whether they when you run, whether they get it right in the past these no, it's not just somebody going oh i think it's going to get a bit warm because there's a bit more co2 now. nobody's saying that, but you saw this new sort of modelling with covid, right? not just don't just bring it back to the modelling covid. they did don't just bring it back to the motheing covid. they did don't just bring it back to the mothe things covid. they did don't just bring it back to the mothe things that d. they did don't just bring it back to the mothe things that we'reey did all the things that we're supposed did this supposed to put in and did this and was way off was way and it was way off it was way off what it is they're
3:30 pm
off track. what it is they're really modelling that you've got in suggests if it in there suggests what if it isn't co2, there any other isn't co2, is there any other suggestions just pumping suggestions or are just pumping in one specific object because they might be just like diesel. we thought, oh, we can't have the diesels. wonderful, it's amazing. that nitrous amazing. we haven't that nitrous oxide an issue. and then we oxide was an issue. and then we realised later. so what i'm saying is, have we modelled it and other things that and tried other things that could be, could be affecting planet rather than just co2 . yes planet rather than just co2. yes the scientists are publishing that and the problem is that politicians they want an easy solution and i get why want an easy solution. they want to say right well what's the one thing when i get put on shows like this i often get asked john, what's the one thing we can do to? stop climate change and there isn't one thing the reason is that if there isn't one thing of and the solution will be a whole series of responses to . so whole series of responses to. so one of them you're saying is to
3:31 pm
reduce co2 what would another thing be said for climate change? what's the next we need to get a handle on the methane spiking at the moment and also get that feedback understood how theice get that feedback understood how the ice is melting both and which is at a catastrophic loss at the moment and the thinning of the ice in the arctic which we've been measuring now for decades and, is a real concern that once you i think you started by talking about tipping points . and i'm but the world points. and i'm but the world wants to stay stable . i want it wants to stay stable. i want it to stay stable. but why would either side of you do? but perhaps we could reach a point where we tip over the place. great. but perhaps perhaps just just supposed that the earth creates its own homeostasis . so creates its own homeostasis. so it's a balance. so just like if i said i'm going to go on a detox, which not a detox, by the way, it's very bad for what your body does is then sort tries to level out, level
3:32 pm
level everything out, level everything out and bring in different makes you different y. what makes you think earth not think that the earth is not creating homeostasis in creating its own homeostasis in another way? and while you putting in bit like putting in it's a bit like putting in it's a bit like putting a valve in a heart when they do that and then they realise actually creates realise that actually it creates other issues because the body starts and sort of starts help itself and sort of balance out. makes balance itself out. what makes you if we do that? you think that if we do that? well, know , that we got the well, you know, that we got the balance wrong . well, yes, he is balance wrong. well, yes, he is without a doubt, one of the most complex scientific strategies . complex scientific strategies. and investigations that we've ever undertaken. but as i said right at the beginning here , right at the beginning here, this is over the last 10,000 years, it's been extraordinarily stable prior to that, it's been warmer , colder, more co2, less warmer, colder, more co2, less c02 . and it warmer, colder, more co2, less co2 . and it was very dynamic . we co2. and it was very dynamic. we know that. and what we could is push ourselves out this very stable because these extra naturally unlikely for us to be this stable. well, it's a cycle is. well are running out time if
3:33 pm
we don't match on john i've run out of time i could talk to you about this forever we would never agree but it's really really good to use great agree to disagree to disagree is whether you that we can be pushed out of this i not i things i do i think that the earth itself find its own balance. i suspect that what we're going humans can live in that new balance. but that's not considered by maybe 1.5 degrees warming. now but maybe we could never change it. john. look, it's always great to talk to you.thank it's always great to talk to you. thank you so much for joining me. that is, of course, john grant is a senior in sustainable construction and climate hallam climate at sheffield hallam university. just university. well, if you're just tuning welcome aboard, this university. well, if you're just tu ang welcome aboard, this university. well, if you're just tua good welcome aboard, this university. well, if you're just tua good iselcome aboard, this university. well, if you're just tua good is i'veme aboard, this university. well, if you're just tua good is i've doneioard, this university. well, if you're just tua good is i've done aard, this university. well, if you're just tua good is i've done a quickis is a good is i've done a quick one live on online and on one live on tv online and on digital the break, digital radio. after the break, we'll continue that great british the sound british debate. the sound of asking are we at a tipping asking, are we at a tipping point of climate change? you'll hear of my panel. hear the thoughts of my panel. broad no broad casting director of 26. no is perry, former editor of the labour list. peter edwards , and labour list. peter edwards, and also former labour mp stephen power. but first, let's get your latest news headlines . 3:33 on

guardian says another mile on the highway to climb . that is the highway to climb. that is what people are saying . but are what people are saying. but are we. lots of . you've been getting we. lots of. you've been getting in touch with your thoughts . he in touch with your thoughts. he says. are long past tipping says. we are long past tipping point for the climate. it is all downhill now. all we can do is slow there enough slow down. but is there enough time ? doubtful unless we get time? doubtful unless we get india , china and russia on board india, china and russia on board right now. stevens says climate change happening and will continue regardless of what we do.the continue regardless of what we do. the cycle has happened before. climate alarmists are just making money out of foolishness. we're to be listening. year on year and listening. ben year on year and more, more alarmism . well let's more, more alarmism. well let's see what my panel. panel think of that. i'm joined by broadcaster and director of call 26. no is perry, former editor of the label is peter edwards and former mp, stephen and also a former mp, stephen pound. perry i'm going pound. lois perry i'm going to come straight was come straight to you. she was chomping the bit as was chomping at the bit as i was speaking grant speaking to john grant with regard are so regard to that. there are so many things i actually did you see me pinching hand she see me pinching my hand she said, okay first of all, said, right. okay first of all, i'd like to say it's probably

news to the promises that lived in the terms 10,000 years ago that was hottest summer that it was the hottest summer record year . secondly, it record last year. secondly, it has been much warmer, not a little bit warmer , but much little bit warmer, but much warmer during the roman period and the mediaeval period, which that whole thing about it being really stable for the last 10,000 years. complete nonsense . i do agree we're at a tipping point, but you know, that tipping is a tipping point tipping point is a tipping point of people using climate alarmism and co2 to actually control us . and co2 to actually control us. you do in these zones where we can't our homes in 15 minutes cities getting us out of our cars keeping us in our pods, keeping us controlled, stopping fly in the pipes, flying like bofis fly in the pipes, flying like boris johnson's dad said recently , that's what we're at recently, that's what we're at a tipping point of, where the tipping point of, where the tipping point of government have a complete control over our lives using co2 using lives using co2 and using climate alarmism as the reason for it, because co2 is life is life, which if it's net zero c02, life, which if it's net zero co2, then it means net zero life. it means you may all of us
3:42 pm
in our pods home on permanent lockdown will you pointed out and i don't know how you know i don't know much about this particular thing but this clean tell all thing where loads of people signed don't know how reputable scientists are but reputable the scientists are but it view. so i'm it is a different view. so i'm going to go ahead . won a nobel going to go ahead. won a nobel prize. okay. so this is a different view. so we've listened to john grant and i respect opinion but these respect his opinion but these guys saying that what comes guys are saying that what comes out with modelling the way out with the modelling the way the has been done so the modelling has been done so the modelling has been done so the computer models are human made we've them made so we've made them obviously clever obviously we're not clever enough what comes out is enough and what comes out is fully dependent on what theoreticians , programmers have theoreticians, programmers have actually put in. so the hypotheses that they put in the relationships, stability relationships, all the stability constraints , all things they constraints, all the things they put come out with put in to come out with their conclusion. unfortunately , it conclusion. so unfortunately, it says in mainstream climate says here in mainstream climate , most input is , most of this input is undeclared so we don't know what the science is actually putting in come out the co2. now, i in to come out the co2. now, i am not saying that climate change does not exist . i am change does not exist. i am saying i just want to know saying that i just want to know more. i want it the politics to
3:43 pm
be taken out of it. and i want straightforward and straightforward answers. and i'm sick feels? sick and tired of what feels? like making what like people making money? what you and what? you think, peter? and what? i want come back. what lois want to come back. what lois said. because, i mean, i feel that's conspiracy theory that's just conspiracy theory and. just a way that's just conspiracy theory an shutting just a way that's just conspiracy theory an shutting someone.st a way that's just conspiracy theory an shutting someone. no, way no, of shutting someone. no, no, no, no, that's what he thinks no, no. that's what he thinks he's gary. he's entitled to that, gary. okay but the wording. no, okay but the wording. no, no, no. he theologies i no. that's what he theologies i don't to apologise. we're don't need to apologise. we're all friendly but not i think it's a conspiracy theory because . can have a view on . i think one can have a view on climate disagree climate change. we can disagree on one can have a view if on that. one can have a view if it's woman and manmade. it's man and woman and manmade. and happen it is. and i happen think that it is. but i don't know of any evidence the government or any government wants to keep us locked our house with climate change is a pretext. so the evidence is absolutely everywhere because that's being done to restrict our personal mobility being done in the name of saving the planet. but these drones in oxford, if you heard about that, the 15 minute zones where you can't from one place to the other , you have to go all around other, you have to go all around the outside of the and it's being rolled out across the
3:44 pm
whole of the united kingdom and the change argument is the climate change argument is being keep being used, the excuse to keep us out of our cars at home. you know what? if you call to respond to that because you've you've had a bit of peace. okay, i'm happy that the way my time . i'm happy that the way my time. so let's go to london, a city where live and i know a bit more about. within the last five years had air quality named years we had air quality named on a child's deafness for the first time. now obviously air quality now is a separate issue to climate change over the next 100 or 500 years. but if we're talking cars and restrictions on personal mobility, i don't think there are any, by the way. but if we're talking about this in the context of restrictions we now the air now know extremely the air quality has killed a child and on average and for people in london, children's lungs are about 10% smaller, says an argument 100 years time. but there's also an argument now. but nobody would argue with air quality. and i've met rosamund as she's incredible as well. she's an incredible woman and. she set up a foundation and i absolute agree that to improve the air
3:45 pm
that we need to improve the air quality. different quality. but there are different things with regard to things we can do with regard to that i think are different fuels and that that don't and things like that that don't actually and actually give emissions and things might things like that. so we might agree on that, but all i'm thinking that the way this thinking of is that the way this whole climate agenda is positioned costing positioned seems to be costing me you and everybody, a me and you and everybody, a fortune and you measure it up. electric cars right now ? electric cars right now? especially with a carbon footprint to make one don't appear to be doing for co2 appear to be doing much for co2 levels at all. i'm glad you mentioned grosman because she was in new was actually honoured in the new year's honours and she really deserve that. obviously and i think very think we had a very, very serious look. i do think i mean, in all honesty, i don't think anyone deny pace anyone could deny that the pace of climate accelerating. but of climate is accelerating. but what and in what they will and it feeds in particular to the discussion we had about had earlier on about immigration. the reasons immigration. one of the reasons we many for mali we had so many people for mali mauritania, because of mauritania, niger, is because of the the the desertification, because the land changing people are land is changing and people are coming i think what we have coming for i think what we have to do is they here. to do is they a rule here. everybody thinks , you want do everybody thinks, you want to do something, but you something, but what do you actually most most of my actually do now? most most of my former be worried former constituents be worried more. than 2030, more. about 8:30 than 2030, because be the issue
3:46 pm
because that would be the issue for here now. and for them here and now. and i think is where politicians think this is where politicians have actually it. it's have actually missed it. it's no good people act out good expecting people to act out of of their heart of the goodness of their heart by and large present company excepted. people don't act purely goodness of purely out of the goodness of their have to their heart. you have to actually them a financial actually give them a financial incentive less polluting incentive to be less polluting or actually incentivise or to actually incentivise against . and i think what's against. and i think what's happening canterbury and happening in canterbury and oxford, small zones, it's oxford, these small zones, it's a democratic attempt. if people don't like it, they can vote . we don't like it, they can vote. we have it. but we had the neighbourhoods in ealing, you see, people chose to keep it because all the did not want to go to the great british. right. okay so basically when you have every party every political party that signed zero madness, signed up to this zero madness, you cannot vote out people that don't don't agree with it and vote people in because vote other people in because every single vote the traffic every single vote on the traffic will not really go parties. absolutely voted out these people. but if so, they were not coming to the ealing. people. but if so, they were not coming to the ealing . they were coming to the ealing. they were not made about the 15 minute zones. and we have been consulted as a country about of the zero restrictions that are coming in in name of climate
3:47 pm
change. we haven't at 58% last year wanted to net zero referendum 62% one now british people are not in agreement with this stuff at all right. well let's let's find out whether they are or not because this says nothing without at home and your views so let's welcome our great voice let's go to great british voice let's go to grimsby have a chat with alan neeley. hey, what do you think this are we at the tipping point? this is what the guardian. it'sjust point? this is what the guardian. it's just a little article in there talks about the what is it, climate something i think the highway, the highways highway to climate help highways. the highways across to allow stated ever. allow what is the stated ever. happy new year. happy new year of the whole concept gets lost in this idea that. of the whole concept gets lost in this idea that . everything's in this idea that. everything's dependent upon the field . two dependent upon the field. two levels of i understand that as the climate warms up the co2 will naturally increase anyway . will naturally increase anyway. so there's a natural link between the two. we're all on the emissions or is as low as
3:48 pm
third rate. let's co2 get sucked in by the trees . the trees give in by the trees. the trees give oxygen. we can all very we should be heading for a greener climate the point of what has happening is that the whole argument gets lost in for instance , electric cars or instance, electric cars or something like that because we see forestation across the world for many, many years. so lots of trees. great thing do is to have a scheme here in the queen one to plant the tree you know how the climate but it's to me the whole argument is lost on one point i'm not from data enough of that makes sense to you i don't agree that we're on a highway to i think that's absolutely nonsense . just think absolutely nonsense. just think it's total scaremongering . i it's total scaremongering. i think there's lots that we could do help improve the climate , to do help improve the climate, to help improve the. but i don't think it's a road to disaster that we're currently having done
3:49 pm
alan daley succinctly thank you so much happy new year to lovely to talk to you in the new honoun to talk to you in the new honour. thank you. i'll see you soon. what's highway to hell? a meatloaf? no, of course we're . meatloaf? no, of course we're. 0h, meatloaf? no, of course we're. oh, chris road now i thought. no, it's the same thing. well, same. i'm driving home for christmas . it's same. i'm driving home for christmas. it's a highway driving the highway to hell that's going to rock. so this is the cdc. i think it . 0h, the cdc. i think it. oh, respect. thank very much. thank you. well, and i was a deejay. what about deejay . what about what about deejay. what about steppenwolf ? i don't think i was steppenwolf? i don't think i was alive then. i think it was. i'm not equipped . this is gb news on not equipped. this is gb news on the self esteem online. i digital radio. after the break, we'll find out why. even though a nation of animal lovers , a a nation of animal lovers, a number of pets been abandoned is on the increase. all of that after this .

it's 53 minutes after 3:00. this is gb news on tv online and, on digital radio on nana a queer. now the good people of scarborough gave up their new year's fireworks last night all because of a walvis nicknamed thor the arctic walrus appears to be taking a break from his journey north. the fireworks were cancelled to avoid causing thor any distress but only really such a nice animal lovers animal rescue centres across the country are reporting an increase in pets being left outside their doors. staff say rising demand for their services is being because of rising costs of keeping pet head of companion animals team at the rspca some gains joins me now for some thank you much for joining gains joins me now for some thank you much forjoining me my friend has a couple dogs and one of the absolute spies me i don't know why i don't really like me much. i've always wanted a pet but it's never, never really worked according worked out. but according to
3:54 pm
what witnessed in your what you've witnessed in your work, how is the cost of living costs affected because costs affected people? because it people just it sounds like people just ditching their pets . hello. it sounds like people just ditching their pets. hello. hi. happy new. yeah, unfortunately are seeing a very , very are seeing a very, very difficult time at the moment in terms the cost of living crisis. i think this is very much being coupled with what was also a very difficult time during the pandemic as well and. charities have for a long long time being themselves for influx of pets coming into our centres and sadly now are starting to see and i think it's is a very, very difficult situation because you mentioned at your introduction that we have a nation of pet lovers and absolutely are and what we're seeing is some people being faced with incredibly difficult decisions around what actually is best to do for their pet and then making decisions , pet and then making decisions, for example, should they eat themselves as offering their pets what is their pet needs that need treatment, what is that need treatment, what is that having on their current income and people making decisions around , treating their
3:55 pm
decisions around, treating their pets over actually themselves. so we're seeing incredibly difficult decisions for the really good owners of our pets in the uk but sadly what we're also seeing as well is, as you say, an increase pets being abandoned. and we've seen a 25% increase in pets being abandoned this year. so it is a hugely concerning time for everybody that's involved in the charity sector at the moment . getty do sector at the moment. getty do you have any pets ? do you have you have any pets? do you have pets? i do what i have and i have an eight year old patient freeze called florence. she's an rspca rescue. so yeah, but i hear that a lot of people are ditching things like reptiles as well . it's not just like the well. it's not just like the nice little things that you've described, people ditching reptiles of other reptiles and all sorts of other things bought. is things that they've bought. is that true ? yeah, we are seeing that true? yeah, we are seeing an abandonment across a range of different species. so as you mentioned , are seeing people mentioned, are seeing people that are being affected by, for example, an increase in prices which is impacting upon their
3:56 pm
ability for animals. which is impacting upon their ability for animals . you know, ability for animals. you know, like you described , geckos, like you described, geckos, lizards, those types of animals that do not need to have heating special lights. we've also very sadly heard story by of a gentleman who had to make a choice between keepin g £8 of choice between keeping £8 of fish and actually feeding himself due to an increased cost up for his electricity bills . up for his electricity bills. now we are seeing not just the typical animals that we expect to be abandoned. so cats and dogs, but a whole range of different animals. and for the rspca in the rest of the sector we're seeing a huge increase actually in rabbits being abandoned . so there's abandoned as well. so there's clearly a lot people out that are very struggling at are really very struggling at moment. what we would say moment. but what we would say them is that to reach out and to ask for help, the has themselves put aside one and a half million pounds to actually help people get through this crisis , whether get through this crisis, whether that's pet owners who are struggling , whether it's struggling, whether it's actually the smaller charities we are to help as would we are here to help as would urge people if they are struggling to ask don't feel
3:57 pm
embarrassed feel like you're going to be judged . these are going to be judged. these are incredibly times and incredibly difficult times and we are here to help people . we are here to help people. well, listen, some thank you so much gain. had a much that, sam gain. she's had a companion animals the companion animals team at the rspca. to all joining me rspca. good to all joining me course this afternoon my panel lois perry peter edwards and also you america is fan also who you america is fan steve pound . well crazy steve pound. well crazy listening that i've i've never my dad told me that 1939 when war was declared and he was just going off to fight the government actually encourage to put animals sleep people used put animals to sleep people used to bring their pets in because is encouraging everyone to put really i really don't know so what did you ever and it was on one of the little videos that they had yet encouraging that everyone in china wef . yeah the everyone in china wef. yeah the world economic forum video is named said well i mean look i haven't seen that so can i just i don't to make noise it had to
3:58 pm

concerned, trans women , concerned, trans women, basically men cannot compete against women and vice versa and will be given their own category . i will be given their own category. i would have even been considered acceptable as an option if it wasn't so serious. it is beyond question . a man should never be question. a man should never be put in a boxing ring and be allowed to knock seven bells out of a woman . absolute madness . of a woman. absolute madness. and i can't see a trans man. so basically a woman opting to fight a man. show me a current case. but that has happened. women aren't that stupid. mauricio said . we will make mauricio said. we will make a global call for those are interested in 2023 and we will establish the protocols start the council tation and probably create a league and a tournament. it is a time to do this and we are doing it for safety and inclusion . what took safety and inclusion. what took them so long? clearly the majority of men are physically strong as the woman. i'm at a
4:06 pm
loss to understand why what is blatantly obvious to me as a woman and for every single person maybe apart from nicholas sturgeon that a trans woman should never compete against a woman in sports. it is totally unfair on women and will women's sport altogether . what sense of sport altogether. what sense of reality exists for anyone to think otherwise ? i've always think otherwise? i've always said , of course, people who are said, of course, people who are trans should be allowed to do sport. why does no . but i also sport. why does no. but i also said to make things fairer. they should have their own category. remember trans woman athlete leah thomas. it was absurd that she. i'm polite am using her request to gender now should be allowed to compete against women for obvious reasons. she is biologically a man and has all the physical advantages of that. i don't even subscribe to the nofion i don't even subscribe to the notion that once the testosterone levels down that trans women should compete against women, because that is not only advantage . take the not only advantage. take the case of transgender woman mma

fighter fox beat her female opponent to make her breasts so severely that to make her suffered a broken skull and fractured the orbital bone inside . it. the fight lasted inside. it. the fight lasted just over 2 minutes. what gets me is that we women fighting for what is obvious . a man will what is obvious. a man will never be a biological woman and a woman will never be a biological . it actually pains me biological. it actually pains me that i have to concede using word biological before my gender so muddied the waters. but it's the truth . nicola, with her the truth. nicola, with her gender reform bill doesn't help paving way for more gender confusion , quicker opening the confusion, quicker opening the floodgates for absolutely anybody not just the trans community to change gender legally without any medical diagnosis. why would it be a bad thing for checks and balances to be put in place to ensure the health of those wishing to change gender safety of change gender and the safety of those around them? let's that common sense will prevail in

2023 . so here's what else is 2023. so here's what else is coming up in the next 60 minutes for the great budget debate this houn for the great budget debate this hour. i'm asking should harry and meghan be invited to the king's coronation ? harry spoke king's coronation? harry spoke is published on the 10th with two major television interviews promoting. it scheduled for next weekend . his brother, prince weekend. his brother, prince william, expected to be bear william, is expected to be bear the of harry's wrath . and the brunt of harry's wrath. and many suggested the many suggested that the accusation in the book will kill the relationship between. the brothers completely. it isn't brothers completely. if it isn't already the already dead, so should the sussexes really expect the coronation invite to land on their doormat and staying with their doormat and staying with the royals will look ahead the royals will also look ahead to coronation on may to the king's coronation on may six. we're told it'll be a different sort of ceremony. queen elizabeth's, to reflect the we're actually the times we're actually living in. right to baby sit? in. is it right to baby sit? maybe take back and spare the. or should we just use it to showcase everything that is great about this country that's on the way in the next hour as ever? tell me what you think on everything when discussing.
4:09 pm
email gb news gb news uk or email gb news at gb news uk or tweet at . gb news. right tweet me at. gb news. right let's get started. let's welcome again to my panel. with me i've got louis parry. he's the director of 26 .org former editor at the label is peter edwards and pound former labour . right. let's start with you first because you are a woman . first because you are a woman. what do you think a logical woman with a worm and everything says, oh, don't say that . why do says, oh, don't say that. why do ihave says, oh, don't say that. why do i have to put biological in front? that irritates me. this is quite i think this is a good idea was i was saying before my nan had some physio recently the lady that did the physio does or did female rugby and she stopped doing it because the amount women that were getting hospital by men who were you know as adults and were literally you know, they were literally put in these female rugby players . i these female rugby players. i say poor female, they're
4:10 pm
probably still and impressive they put them in hospital because men have 40% more muscle mass. they are stronger even if their testosterone levels are lowered or they have surgery, they're still stronger . so they're still stronger. so obviously that's your experience and what you've exposed speaking to this this woman did that. i mean. yeah, i mean, the interesting thing is, well, my trans friends that i've got a such gentle , loving, gorgeous such gentle, loving, gorgeous people and i just think that this whole has been weaponised to cause culture war type problems , everyone fighting and problems, everyone fighting and hating each other i. i don't because it seems so ridiculous to me. there's nothing with being a trans woman or transgender but you need to go through the process. the proper process of having gone through the process and done everything that then at that you should do so. then at that you should do so. then at that there literally is nothing wrong it . have we have wrong with it. you have we have to be really stick about what that means. so if a man is you know becomes a trans woman we to accept he still really has the strength of a man. what do you
4:11 pm
think? well, i think a lot of other sports will be looking at what the world boxing council does very closely because i think sport is for everyone and so is dignity. but so is safety. yeah, absolutely. and the head of the wbc. so you can't have someone born as a man fighting, someone born as a man fighting, someone born as a man fighting, someone born as a woman . a someone born as a woman. a pretty common sense with officer , pretty commonsense point to make . and i think you cited the make. and i think you cited the example of leah thomas who won a global swimming event. i'm sorry. i can't remember whether it was a dating or the olympics, but which swimming even post but which swimming but even post title athletics and title, european athletics and leah thomas had a big height and probably a weight advantage because she had much broader shoulders. she also had a penis and a girlfriend . okay. yeah. so and a girlfriend. okay. yeah. so we need that. is it again ? i we need that. is it again? i thought that might have slowed it down. i can't clarify that myself, but i think i don't know what the transition i know what the transition i don't know whether it. but the whether to go for it. but the other the other swimmers complained she getting complained that she was getting changed in changing room. and you see everything and it you could see everything and it made feel uncomfortable and made them feel uncomfortable and they just told that they
4:12 pm
they were just told that they had shut that's what had to shut up. that's what i read said. but that read said. but i find that horrendous are horrendous look, there are strange cases of caster strange cases of it. caster semenya you know, the south african runner, i mean, they've not define her not been able to define what her sexuality or of her, you sexuality is or his of her, you know, and there are cases like that. people like like that. there are people like like we mentioned earlier about john morris and ashley, know, who morris and ashley, you know, who are demonstrable women born in morris and ashley, you know, who are wrong|strable women born in morris and ashley, you know, who are wrong butble women born in morris and ashley, you know, who are wrong but and women born in morris and ashley, you know, who are wrong but and wasan born in the wrong but and was a corrective but i think when of actually adultery on the head of actually adultery on the head of a pin because if we can to a pin here because if we can to have categories subcategories sideways know sideways categories you know semi categories on earth semi categories where on earth is put yourself in position is so put yourself in position i'm a woman okay i'm about to have a woman, a female rugby player. i've got to play to . player. i've got to play to. rugby and there's somebody you a man you've transitioned and you are now female dependent . are now female dependent. depends what i'm just saying. in terms of strength yeah you have to accept that this is not about it , it's not about to accept that this is not about it, it's not about being transphobic or not this is nothing do this. this is nothing to do with this. this is about just the physicality of the different the anatomy and physiology, sexes physiology, the different sexes , the advantages that one will
4:13 pm
have a decision to waste in terms of sport. people get injured sport is injured in sport as it is already. there's no way on god's green earth i would want my daughter daughter daughter or anybody. my daughter played you played rugby at university, you know, up against know, to coming up against a front hitter who front row forward hitter who had had match it's something had been a match it's something i'm it can i'm probably thinking it is can we just 2023 and by saying that's actually a little bit sensible what's to stop all this nonsense about subcategories ? nonsense about subcategories? just say that there are certain things which are so obvious. pardon the language . so i do pardon the language. so i do think it says whether it was a cover up . that's why cover up. that's why subcategories are good idea. yeah, that that to prevent what you're saying your daughter being against a man that's transitioned into women getting really badly but we talk about different leagues then you know not just i'm sure the logic of different is different leagues you could apply for this i mean you could apply for this i mean you have leagues in football this is not what we're saying we are actually talking about whether it is reasonable to have a somebody who's maybe a man, somebody who's maybe trans playing against trans woman playing against somebody is a they will agree. but what we're saying, we're
4:14 pm
comparing not comparing bodies. we're not comparing we're saying that these two bodies are different when sport. you have when it comes to sport. you have to look at them as bodies and acknowledge that is acknowledge that there is a difference strength and difference in strength and physicality. comes physicality. and with that comes safety. need to put you to safety. so we need to put you to do you're implying that you do what you're implying that you would idea would actually approve the idea of separate transgender of having a separate transgender that think that's okay. that i don't think that's okay. look we've we've look at the world we we've we've got league we've got the premier league we've the women's it's on. women's premier league. it's on. yeah. no , i'm just saying yeah. no, no, i'm just saying you would have a third, fourth, fifth. don't compromise . fifth. so you don't compromise. no, i would say let's say it is not letting trans people at all. i would say that trans pay by all means, but not in in a state of hundred before they've completed transitioned. well no, but it is a possibility they . but it is a possibility they. got to make transition. but they still physical bulk of still got the physical bulk of even the most weakling man and i'm pretty strong. i go to the gym probably overpowered even gym probably overpowered me even like mr. muscle the guy in the advert and that thing in the nineties whatever they could probably me right but probably overpower me right but it doesn't it make much difference it's the muscle mass it it doesn't matter how
4:15 pm
developed it is men are stronger than women , to be honest. those than women, to be honest. those are my money. be on you . but are my money. be on you. but i got to say so . but where do you got to say so. but where do you all use? on the one hand, you're saying are you denying people the right to participate? it's not. the so cuts . not. that's why the so cuts. okay so what sport can a trans man who's a who was a woman is transitioning what sport can they all that sounds better. what what's talk? what any any sport where physical strength as a only physical contact . what do a only physical contact. what do you think, peter? well, let me make a practical. practical, because mentioned the because one of you mentioned the coach you know, coach was actually, you know, let's start 23 on let's try and start 20, 23 on where we agree and be in where we agree and be so in football tennis , there's a football and tennis, there's a men's a women's. men's competition, a women's. but in boxing, men's competition, a women's. but in boxing , there's already but in boxing, there's already multiple different categories by weight. you don't . oh, so and if weight. you don't. oh, so and if you can kind of segment a particular sport already men's boxing, women's boxing is in divided by weight. maybe you can
4:16 pm
divided by weight. maybe you can divide it in other ways as well. and they didn't have been that needin and they didn't have been that need in football or tennis, for example. so on a practical maybe they could be another category. no see what i don't see no i don't see what i don't see what problem what the problem would be. i think it's well because is think it's well because sport is about it's about comparing bodies. it's about comparing bodies. it's about about one person about it's about one person being stronger another, being stronger than another, putting situation being stronger than another, puttingthere's situation being stronger than another, puttingthere's competition ion being stronger than another, puttingthere's competition and to where there's competition and to find wins find out who wins that competition it's about competition. it's not about beating senseless beating someone senseless because all you've got because you're all you've got a physical for being physical advantage for being a man you're actually but if man and you're actually but if you and your sort of work, you know, sort of compete against a woman, it's not just about physical strength. it's about skirt. look at darts. you've now got are just competing got women are not just competing with the world actually with men in the world actually beating there's not beating men, but there's not beating men, but there's not beating the head. yeah, beating them on the head. yeah, exactly that's good exactly. that's a very good point a great one to end on. point and a great one to end on. and hopefully it's we don't know. i this is just know. i mean, this is just supposing we don't supposing that we don't know what situation the what the situation was in the changing if you changing rooms at all. if you just it's coming up to just join me, it's coming up to 17 4:00. i'm nana 17 minutes after 4:00. i'm nana akua. the tv news tv akua. this is the tv news on tv and on digital radio after. the break. we'll continue with that. great british debate this hour. and should harry and

4:19 pm
join me every sunday at 6 pm. on gb news the people's channel, britain's news.
4:20 pm
4:21 pm
4:22 pm
good afternoon. this is a gb news. we are the people's channel. i'm nana akua happy new year to you all. let's now talk about harry and meghan and i. look, i have to we do because we're talking about the king's. it's more about the king than them because as well as prince harry's upcoming memoir, i think we're going to have to endure. i think it's next week. he's out next week. out week next week. yeah, out next week sometime on the 10th actually. so in nine days time. so that's coming out the sussexes, the netflix documentary, which was one of last year's most streamed programmes that include multiple charges, including accusing william screaming,
4:23 pm
charges, including accusing william screaming , shouting, william of screaming, shouting, i am, as brothers do and allegations the palace lied over bullying claims against . meghan, bullying claims against. meghan, the royal family is not commenting on whether the duke and duchess are to be invited to the king's coronation. however multiple even former multiple polls and even former are questioning whether it's right for the couple to be ianed. right for the couple to be invited . so i'm joined now by invited. so i'm joined now by former correspondent former royal correspondent michael michael, you michael cole. michael, thank you very for joining me. michael cole. michael, thank you very forjoining me. michael so what do you think about this? because, you know, it's . should because, you know, it's. should they be invited ? not good they be invited? not good afternoon. and happy new year to you and all the viewers and his majesty, the king has handled this rather cleverly because he's let it be known that they are very welcome to come to the coronation on may the sixth. now that leaves it up to them whether to accept which , leaves whether to accept which, leaves them open to the charge of the paparazzi. after all the criticism and wounding things they've said about the royal
4:24 pm
family or is they then refused, then all could be accused being petulant and petty minded. so it is really quite a clever for the king to have done and for prince harry there is an additional problem now because all the princes present in the abbey at the coronation will required to kneel and give a loyal oath. they'll have to swear to as legionnaire of life and limb , to legionnaire of life and limb, to be loyal to the new king who is just being crowned now . could just being crowned now. could prince harry that with a straight face or would he be like those and two royal mps who were at the start of every parliament when they have to take the loyal oath in order to take the loyal oath in order to take their seat they cross that thing just their backs. so i think the king has been quite a good innings so far in his reign
4:25 pm
and i think he's handled this one quite well. wow so he's going to have to bend down and the thing. so do you think he'll go, do you think i mean, okay. so i think that if he's invited , i think i'll probably try and snub. is invite do or do you think would do do you think harry will well you know, harry will go? well you know, maybe that that is a reaction, especially one on your part. i actually think he accept they accept because they're in the of self public public that they have to keep the public eye. not at all. they've got left to them now they've sold themselves to netflix and they have to keep a high profile . there is a problem high profile. there is a problem there because i had never heard a member of the royal family booed until they came to st paups booed until they came to st paul's cathedral for the service in thanksgiving for the queen.
4:26 pm
70 years unprecedented and there were quite a few boos outside. now, even in quebec city when french separatists demonstrated against the queen the late queen mother , they didn't do her. they mother, they didn't do her. they were booing her personally. they were booing her personally. they were demonstrating because they wanted french separatism in the in the canadian federation so that quite unusual and i think that quite unusual and i think that would be in the sink as you were quoting that would indicate that may be some opposition which would rather detract the solemnity and the glory of the occasion. we haven't seen a coronation . for since 1953. coronation. for since 1953. there has been a more subtle or eclipses in the last 200 years and there have been. so this is going to be a special occasion. nana you're going to be there, i'm sure. of course . i'll be i'm sure. of course. i'll be there with bells on his publicist over there, michael, because going bring in because i'm going to bring in grant harrold now. he's a former royal so grant , what do royal butler. so grant, what do
4:27 pm
you think about this then? i as king charles, played the blinders it's blinders. do you think it's a goodidea blinders. do you think it's a good idea ? what view? do good idea? what view? do you think harry will go well, get up and.thank think harry will go well, get up and. thank simon and happy new yeah and. thank simon and happy new year. i think he will go because i believe with everything that's taken place, everything that happened, he always feels that he has done that. they have done no wrong . and i think on that no wrong. and i think on that bafis no wrong. and i think on that basis will still want be basis will still want to be there, even though i think it'll be really awkward. personally i would be quite awkward to be there, but i think he will and i think king, as michael said, is played it very carefully. you know, he's invited them. of course, you'd invite him because it's his second son. but the decision is now down to them and. i think the risk is that they do go, people do give bad reaction to them being there, which is it's possible. i think they will. i think people will. ihave they will. i think people will. i have a bad reaction to them to be because i just i just think you know, until very well having a disagreement the family you know, until very well having a dithe'eement the family you know, until very well having a dithe mudslinging the family you know, until very well having a dithe mudslinging selling|ily you know, until very well having a dithe mudslinging selling your but the mudslinging selling your story and then actually not

speaking own because speaking own father because maybe wrong with a maybe he did wrong with a picture he has that's not picture which he has that's not how tells the story . but then how he tells the story. but then as a result, selling as a result, you're selling you're doing everything that you said. doing worse, said. he was doing and worse, it's pretty bad. yeah it's pretty bad. and i would ask as well, what ? so you go first. go well, what? so you go first. go go. i was just going to say, i think that's the tricky part. and you know, going along, as i think he will but you , you know, think he will but you, you know, he'll feel he should be . i think he'll feel he should be. i think the dangerous part is nonna westlake . in recent years, there westlake. in recent years, there was always that thing of them overshadowing different which is the reality and i think that's something that they will not the palace will not want that to happen they will not anything to put any kind of shadow over this event. so it's going be very event. so it's going to be very carefully played out over the couple of months, i think. do you think got much left you think they've got much left to prince harry's to say because prince harry's book coming i mean, book is coming outwith? i mean, i've watched the thing that the thing i fell asleep in the middle part thing.
4:29 pm
thing i fell asleep in the mid not part thing. thing i fell asleep in the mid not going part thing. thing i fell asleep in the mid not going to part thing. thing i fell asleep in the mid not going to getirt thing. thing i fell asleep in the mid not going to get those1g. thing i fell asleep in the mid not going to get those back i'm not going to get those back again. i had to watch for again. but i had to watch for the sake of work . i mean, do again. but i had to watch for the sake of work. i mean, do you think that they've got anything to say ? really? what do you to say? really? what do you think ? i this is this is think? i this is this is confuses me because obviously we all listened at the oprah interview. we want to know what had to be said and even then was kind of very much on the fence as you know. nana and then the tv series has come out and you kind of think, okay , a lot of it kind of think, okay, a lot of it is repeated. no the book and you do kind of think what they what are they trying to get across? this is what i'm trying to understand from my own point of view, one had known view, because no one had known his known family. his father, known the family. i don't the don't understand what the endgame has to be an endgame is. there has to be an endgame is. there has to be an endgame know what he endgame and i don't know what he actually don't know actually wants. i don't know what is don't what the endgame is i don't know if trying to say that he if he's trying to say that he feels that they've been treated unfairly you know, unfairly and it is you know, i don't if they're trying to get something out of it, that's it. but don't i generally but i don't get and i generally question the time, question that all the time, think what's end game ?
4:30 pm
think is what's the end game? that's what i should have been wondering . i think the endgame wondering. i think the endgame is money. let's pay. michael back final chat back quickly for a final chat with him . michael so it's that with him. michael so it's that gone as pointed out at the end game. what do you think their end game is? i mean, what could they possibly after there's an you know, they've only got the book left now the books coming. i what do you think they're i mean what do you think they're where are they going with this? first all? first of all, good first of all? first of all, good hug. there hug. many too grown up there in scotland and wherever we scotland and wherever he is. we that but and i love the fact what coordinates with the colours by the way. oh yes they are . we didn't talk before and are. we didn't talk before and i know we didn't arrange this , but know we didn't arrange this, but we can't look as glorious as you. they're not like, you know, whatever we do how people say it's tuesday week the book out random penguin random house will want to avoid the charge that they oversold it because . people they oversold it because. people will feel cheated if there is

4:32 pm
terrible in life to see two brothers fighting . does it brothers fighting. does it matter who the brothers are? it's terrible. but when it's princes of the royal fighting i do understand this book will be drawing some blood and there will be attacks on prince william, which perhaps haven't seen before. well when that happens, it's not i think it's regret of all it's very sad and i'll tell you what , nana it's i'll tell you what, nana it's all unnecessary because total is complex when you look at it in great scheme of things with war raging two time zones away from it's all terror and trivial. it is it is totally trivial. michael and on bombshell michael thank you very for joining me and also grant harold , thank you and also grant harold, thank you so much and happy new year to you. well, see, that's that's they think. what do you think? get in touch tv gbnews.uk or tweet ad gb news. i'm nana tweet the ad gb news. i'm nana akua. this is gb news where? live on online and on digital live on tv online and on digital video after the break we will

good afternoon. it's fast approaching 9 minutes after 4:00. if you've just joined me. where have you been? i'm nana akuais where have you been? i'm nana akua is gb news on tv online and on digital radio . we're talking on digital radio. we're talking about not harry and meghan's , about not harry and meghan's, but about whether they're going to be coming to the coronation. they have been. let's see what you've about . right. you've been saying about. right. so firstly , dan, on climate so firstly, dan, on climate change, he says to try to get the uk to get to net zero and politicians are prepared to make the general public suffer by introducing unrealised
4:39 pm
unsustainable targets. the classes are always who pay the most for taxes with the worst hit the country is in recession and the government should be trying to help people not make their more difficult by introducing policies that are costly and unsustainable all frank all need transport says it's simple just two categories women and open problem solved and fair to all that is trash because no woman is going to go in giving the men category and colour on harry and meghan attending king charles's coronation says . they don't want coronation says. they don't want anything the monarchy, so anything to do the monarchy, so i they would not to i assume they would not to attend the charles would take the high ground and send the moral high ground and send it in. but i wonder i wonder. so what do you think? so should charles, says, and charles, as carlos says, and send invite it wasn't that send an invite it wasn't that long harry meghan's long ago harry and meghan's bombshell on bombshell documentary aired on netflix with fresh accusations against the royal family. plus, it's only ten days until prince harry's brand book is released. i it's on half price for i hear it's on half price for pre—order . so should they come pre—order. so should they come to the coronation? let's see what my panel make of that. i'm
4:40 pm
joined now by broadcast star and director of 26, davis perry , director of 26, davis perry, former editor of the libellous, peter and also former labour mp steven pound. let's start with you, peter. it was the coronation . actually invite them coronation. actually invite them and then should they go? yes, of course they should. and they should go. or all families have disagreements and all families go through tough times. i think the idea of those has not really been helpful to anyone. but if there's a way to show an olive branch or trigger a reconciliation to invite them. so it seems entirely and they should accept . lois. yeah think should accept. lois. yeah think that the king inviting them to using a chess analogy is check because they don't if they don't come then they look petty. but if they come in they're going to be shoved at the back hopefully and would be pretty and it would be pretty embarrassing i think they. i think that they should they think that they should go they need because they've need to go because all they've got entire that got entire say is that connection . the royal family. i connection. the royal family. i actually think that prince harry
4:41 pm
is in a sort of slightly domestic abuse situation with her. i don't. i feel for him and he's not there. he's ice. he's not there in his eyes . well, not there in his eyes. well, some people would say because mean it for me. sometimes i don't really like it when people sort of go on and say, oh, well, it's the woman doing that. and i know doing it because know you're not doing it because it's a woman, but to me, i think it's a woman, but to me, i think it's a woman, but to me, i think it's a and i think they're it's like a and i think they're both bad as other, both just as bad as each other, one other. one relying on the other. stephen you back stephen but can i take you back to the summer of 1953? please do . 1953 fulham in the first division. my sister , the first division. my sister, the first banana because rationing was ending. we exactly the ending. but we had exactly the problem. her majesty the queen god her soul, was to god rest her soul, was about to be crowned . she had her uncle be crowned. she had her uncle edward , the eighth duke of edward, the eighth duke of windsor, and who run off with an american divorcee. you know, there's kind of see if there's there's a kind of see if there's a read across . and, you know, my a read across. and, you know, my dad used to sing the herald angels singing mrs. simpson's pinched so at that pinched our king. so at that time, the duke of windsor who was, after all, the brother of the queen's father, and he
4:42 pm
the queen's father, ira, and he was a king. edward heath was living paris largely with living in paris largely with mrs. simpson and they were invited, but they to be dignified and not attend. i don't actually see dignity as featuring large in meghan's vocabulary, but think they do. but i think peter so sweet and kind and nice. so you've got to always look back to say, look i'm not into meghan markle, but just think that wanted it was sort seemed to fall on her he prince harry is more than capable of making his own. he is. you don't know. i think of just causes, and i don't think it's fair . just causes, and i don't think it's fair. i'm not defending. i'm just saying that they are both culpable and both equally have got to say, if you look at harry's background, i mean, we know about was at school. he had a distinguished a very, very distinguished military career. he also got up to outrageous things just to pretty outrageous things just because you you know, there's a partisan he made that decision, but suddenly he changes from sort of red blooded . yes. you sort of red blooded. yes. you know, one of the boys. no. i mean, you know, to this sort of frightfully , it's just my frightfully well, it's just my voice . you know what man is? voice. you know what a man is? a woman ma'am change
4:43 pm
woman not ma'am will change because tapped to some because she's tapped to some underlying massive insecurities. the whole thing, even the title of the book, spare you. he would listen the air in spin, but this is part of his book in his own words, right so didn't need a book. oh, god, let me finish. so he's written this book in his own words. he's more than capable of doing his own thing. and i think it's fair that people say, oh, he's in domestic abuse and whatever. i actually think that he is gone. now you can horse to water. they can bring a horse to water. they can't make it. he's that situation. he's put himself there. needs to find there. i mean, now needs to find a either out or. is it fair a way either out or. is it fair to though, that to say, though, that she's a stronger and focussed stronger and more focussed character than him? i don't know, because any more folk knows go. i don't know about knows to go. i don't know about that because depends how that because it depends how bitter wokeist. if he is bitter is it? wokeist. if he is bitter. as bitter as he. because obviously is saying obviously the book is saying spare, gives a lot of clue spare, which gives a lot of clue as insecurities. now as to his own insecurities. now he that he's been he feels that he's been harbouring for years, even harbouring that for years, even before she came along but she's taken picked the scab. well she
4:44 pm
she might have she might stop she might have she might stop she might have she might stop she might maybe but then he's a prince. she wanted a prince and all that. and she's obviously been. what do you think, peter? what of the whole what we got out of the whole black hole of what? well i think we already got where we're at in it. i think it's good domestic abuse analogies, right? no i just in these circumstances, i think it is terribly sad . just in these circumstances, i think it is terribly sad. i do think it is terribly sad. i do think harry, harry and meghan have made some poor choices, but think clearly they're very upset . know harry and william, of course, lost their young and course, lost their young age and everything, circumstances . i everything, circumstances. i don't a moment that don't doubt for a moment that meghan her meghan suffered racism over her life . i think perhaps they need life. i think perhaps they need a wider circle of advisers because things like making tv show book about family, it show and a book about family, it seem like it will end well . and seem like it will end well. and i think i feel the rest of . the i think i feel the rest of. the royal family, of course, have very gilded life. but they they are dedicated . yes, i think are dedicated. yes, i think they're probably dreading the next couple of weeks. well, they would i think would be. and that i think that's the difference here . what that's the difference here. what they royal family is to they are what royal family is to us is a duty . they are what royal family is to us is a duty. it's a service.
4:45 pm
and really, frankly, you can see that meghan did not have it in to her do that. but don't you think meghan's is a real star? i mean, no, i don't. the answer to that. right is nothing without you. and you'll be . let's you. and you'll be. let's welcome our great up again of without even saying close your mouth. you just come out. we're not fighting in same not fighting in the same category. welcome british voice as your opportunity to on the show. tell us what you think about the topics by discussing. 0h about the topics by discussing. oh i love let's go to oh i love this. let's go to sydney harris in bristol. hey, leigh. new to meghan's leigh. happy new to meghan's about this is happening how are you. well yeah i'm good. you. yeah well yeah i'm good. thank you. nice to you . thank you. nice to see you. we'll start with steve. the question because he seems to think that mum a think that meghan's mum is a star. think . she's not star. do you think. she's not really nice, but i did laugh when he said that straight away. and i've got to agree with . so and i've got to agree with. so what do you make of this then this whole coronation thing ? this whole coronation thing? should he invite them? should they go ? i've read i've read the
4:46 pm
they go? i've read i've read the sources close to the royal family say the king will always keep the door open for his son and he'll not want his coronation to be sidetracked by drama . so i completely drama. so i completely understand why the kings, if not decided to invite them . but decided to invite them. but let's be honest, it would be and utterly hypocritical for meghan and harry to attend. exactly and undermine the british monarchy and the country . you know, and the country. you know, they've accused their own family racism. prince william happily . racism. prince william happily. they've accused the palace . a they've accused the palace. a brief sting operation against them . they've used the global them. they've used the global coverage of netflix damage them and harry's bringing out a book to cause even more damage. you know, if they hate the and the monarchy so much , why would they monarchy so much, why would they want to come ? now, that is want to come? now, that is a very question. and if just say they do get here, how do you think ? what do you think? do you think? what do you think? do you think? what do you think? do you think that'll be received? well and are you planning to read his book? i'm not planning to read
4:47 pm
the book, no. i mean, i might skim through all of the revelation and stuff, but no, i don't i'll waste my life don't think i'll waste my life reading you reading it. but i'm glad you asked. i have seen polling published. i think of gb published. i think some of gb news polling as well. the news polling as well. but the pubuc news polling as well. but the public seem too keen on and meghan and you know, personally, ihope meghan and you know, personally, i hope they stay away because i genuinely do think that it will take, you know, draw a massive amount of attention away from the family, which not the royal family, which is not on this is not just on this is this is not just about family. it's about the royal family. it's about the royal family. it's about it's about about the country. it's about all about harry and all us. it's not about harry and meghan but, you know, so meghan. but, you know, so personally, i hope they stay away. if they do attend, i'm away. but if they do attend, i'm not be surprised in the not going to be surprised in the slightly get booed, i slightly if they get booed, i secretly hope do not know. secretly hope they do not know. course they all leading. course they all be leading. thank you very much indeed did see this. leigh harris's there in he's a great british in bristol. he's a great british voice so much. and voice thank you so much. and also because lots of you be getting touch with on getting in touch with your on harry meghan . ellie says harry and meghan. ellie says princess can a princess who attended princes. thank you very much . sorry, boss. princess who much. sorry, boss. princess who the coronation have to swear
4:48 pm
allegiance to the king. so how would harry deal with this for me ? i'd prefer that he and his me? i'd prefer that he and his wife did not. after publicly trashing your own family, why would anyone want to be ? anyone would anyone want to be? anyone want the. maggie says want to be the. maggie says ianed want to be the. maggie says invited or not, harry and meghan will production it. he will make production of it. he is king's son, however. so is the king's son, however. so should he be invited? claire says , and meghan should says, and meghan should definitely not attend the it is not a family event in same way as a funeral. it is a ceremony unique to the royal family. harry and meghan left . there are harry and meghan left. there are far fewer seats this than at the queen's coronation . every seat queen's coronation. every seat should go to someone who will support charles takes on support charles as he takes on the responsibilities of being a monarch. attend monarch. those who attend appreciate the opportunity to witness the other two would merely be there to seen and create stories for netflix . i create stories for netflix. i think you're right on that one. if you just join, you're with me. i'm done. okay. this is gb news on tv online and on digital radio. after the break, we'll talking harry's new talking about prince harry's new book. that. and book. we'll on with that. and the honours . but the new year's honours. but first, have a break. back in .

a welcome aboard as you just tuned in. welcome. this is on tv onune in. welcome. this is on tv online and on digital radio. i'm nana akua . now, of course, the nana akua. now, of course, the new year's list has been revealed. now the list celebrates the lionesses at the euros with four members of the england team receiving honours. some people complaining, actually, it should have been all them by clearly not all of them by clearly for not everybody . gb news presenter and everybody. gb news presenter and diamond, she received the obe fabulous well done to an and queen's guitarist brian may awarded a knighthood . well, who awarded a knighthood. well, who better to delve into this than royal commentator jenny bond? she joins me now. jenny thank you so much forjoining me and happy new to you. now, of course, it's new year's , too. course, it's new year's, too. yeah. hope you're well. i'm thank you. i'm good. thank you. now, of course, is the news on?
4:53 pm
is this is it actually still relevant? do you think people care care ? well, i think people care care? well, i think people do care, but i'm not sure personally that it's relevant for my it's too political . you for my it's too political. you know, it is decided by downing street. people actually seem to think the royal family. do you think the royal family. do you think you'll give them or i'll give though is not not that at all downing street to decide who gets think gets the honours. and i think i would bar politicians from getting honour. i'm not getting any kind honour. i'm not entirely sure about entertainers. brian may fantastic. but sir brian may , fantastic. but sir brian may, say it's mick jagger. ray really? i don't know . i'm say it's mick jagger. ray really? i don't know. i'm glad the lionesses have so i don't know where you draw the line. but personally, i think perhaps awards for people , the community awards for people, the community who've done their bit for society and then they get their day at the palace . the little day at the palace. the little people do like that, unrecognised and unknown . i unrecognised and unknown. i mean, there's true value perhaps in this kind of recognition , but in this kind of recognition, but the rest of it becoming an officer of the british, a
4:54 pm
commander of the british empire, doesn't really sit very well. i don't think with 20, 23. well, if they offered you one, jenny, would you take it? they won't . would you take it? they won't. but if they did, i didn't. i would i would be i would be conflicted. i would conflicted because obviously is. but it's great for your ego, i suppose . i great for your ego, i suppose. i if i did, i certain wouldn't put it after my name is some people do i mean think that's preposterous i probably might politely decline. i'd to think i would. now you and i would be more than happy to. say, oh, it's not relevant. thank you very much. but yeah, i. you know. but i do agree though, that it should be more the people in the society who've done stuff that should be on that. and i absolutely agree with you. why should the mp get them and all that business, some of some peers donating , this of some peers donating, this stuff, just feels a bit feels stuff, it just feels a bit feels a uncomfortable for me, a bit uncomfortable for me, for them them. about them to them. and what about harry meghan? because
4:55 pm
harry and meghan? because they've the. they've been invited to the. should be invited to the coronation. do think charles coronation. do you think charles should invite them? and if do should invite them? and if so do you they go ? yeah. you think they should go? yeah. well with the majority of your panel well with the majority of your panel, i think that think they absolutely invited and absolutely must be invited and will be invited. i think it is the dignified the royal the dignified for the royal family proceed they have the dignified for the royal fanreally proceed they have the dignified for the royal fanreally ignoring they have the dignified for the royal fanreally ignoring allthey have the dignified for the royal fan really ignoring all that'save far really ignoring all that's going on, all the laundry that's been washed and just rising aboveit been washed and just rising above it and extend the hand of love and friendship to the family and i think that they will be invited and i think they'll probably come. i mean, almost unthinkable that the king's youngest son shouldn't not be at his coronation. one of the most significant moments of charles's life . so i rather hope charles's life. so i rather hope that they be there. i think the people are very harsh about harry and, meghan and i know i have been to, you know, that they can . well, i think people they can. well, i think people are, but they to the jubilee and they behaved very well they came to the funeral and didn't try to upstage anyone i think they
4:56 pm
could play a relevant and quiet part in the coronation and i do think they should be there. well, i think they needed to go to those things. so the sort of they could be because otherwise what they talk what what would they talk about? what about about anything else. about so about anything else. what's going this then what's going on this year then for family, the events for the royal family, the events that we should look out for obviously got a we obviously we've got a well we could about obviously the could talk about obviously the books coming let's talk about the though. what the book briefly though. what about the books? are you going to that? well i mean, to read that? well i mean, that's first thing. yeah. i that's the first thing. yeah. i mean, next tuesday and wednesday, week, people mean, next tuesday and wedmeday, week, people mean, next tuesday and wedme are week, people mean, next tuesday and wedme are just week, people mean, next tuesday and wedme are just going, people mean, next tuesday and wedme are just going to eople mean, next tuesday and wedme are just going to be, .e like me are just going to be, oh, you know, going for us. we got to get the book and download and get it through the post and whatever way you can and speed read it and then come and wait on it and write articles about it. so it's going to be pretty frantic. i hope there's something in it, but i think we'll start hearing about it at the weekend actually, because believe harry is going to give interviews . american networks . interviews. american networks. and to tom bradby of itn , which

5:07 pm
we can choose find our partners. right. so i'm going to start with you today is a huge day for people who want sign up for people who want to sign up for divorce , i hear. is this true? divorce, i hear. is this true? yes, it's divorce day is the first working day that we're back when back. the office. that's when family tend to report that . they family tend to report that. they get more inquiries than other day of the year after the christmas holidays, which is going to because that time quality time with your partner if there's cracks in that relationship is going to make it worse. so that's why quite often this is the boom time for break—ups what do people break—ups and what do people just literally filing for divorce straight off? yeah, people are definitely making inquiries how do i break inquiries about how do i break up, what does that look like, what's process? do i get what's the process? do i get support? so yeah, that's what we see lot at time of see a lot of at this time of year and a difficult time year and it's a difficult time for even making for people even you're making the can be the decision to go. it can be really it's a process really difficult. it's a process so divorce coach mean so your divorce coach i mean some may have heard your some people may have heard your story. what story. so, you know what happened to you because you did this experiencing this out of out of experiencing divorce did indeed, divorce yourself. i did indeed, yes. years ago, i found
5:08 pm
yes. about 12 years ago, i found out my husband out of the blue that my husband didn't to be married to me anymore . i didn't find out my anymore. i didn't find out my question . so yeah, well, i found question. so yeah, well, i found out because found a contact lens box in my bedside table and i don't wear lenses and i had a false eyelashes . and so i knew false eyelashes. and so i knew that well something was so it all came out then and my ex—husband was very happy, met someone , was madly in love with someone, was madly in love with and moved very quickly and started a new family. so i went through that trauma and did all that ugly crying and not knowing what was to happen next. really scary times and i think she attractive she was absolutely beautiful she makes it worse. yeah it still is. and you know, that's it. i think it does make it harder. she hasn't got fat. the news of. you can help her out, lady. no she's so lovely. so. yeah we actually get on really well now. so yeah, that helps. that helps . yeah, it helps. that helps. yeah, it does. yeah. you've been divorced
5:09 pm
. you been through divorce or anything like that? i have. eight or nine years ago, i wasn't divorced, i split wasn't divorced, but i split with kids mum was with my kids mum and it was quite traumatic time. i was fit anyhow because i was a person trying to back then and i just had a mad six months of going to nightclubs, pretended in. i was 20 all over again. yeah. so it was, it was, it was pretty much like that making look silly. was, it was, it was pretty much like that making look silly . and like that making look silly. and then after about six months, i kind of knuckle down and went on a couple of dating apps. and so i had one relationship after the other which wasn't for me, it's never good for anyone . so this never good for anyone. so this time i stopped a little bit longer and then i'm now into a new relationship . yeah. wow, new relationship. yeah. wow, that's lovely. and with your previous partner, you've got like five kids. i i had five children all in the same partner as well. yeah. yeah, that's a lot lot . that's something to lot lot. that's something to that. so many children having children. so with this divorce , children. so with this divorce, there's obviously people going through this. well, what is the
5:10 pm
first thing is the first thing to contact the solicitors. what's the first what was your first thing that you did? was it. i my situation? it. well i mean, my situation? it was quite difficult because we communicating we weren't really communicating very well that point and i've very well at that point and i've definitely learnt a lot from that experience. if you can that experience. but if you can sit down and have a conversation and amicable. that's great. and be amicable. that's great. you you don't want to have you know, you don't want to have huge costs. one of huge legal costs. that's one of the want to avoid. the things we want to avoid. there's ways getting there's easier ways of getting divorce. have divorce. these so you just have to to lawyer. you can it to go to lawyer. you can do it onune to go to lawyer. you can do it online even so, there's other ways to do it. but communication is to be to help you is going to be key to help you through. you've got through. so now once you've got rid person or they've rid of that person or they've got rid of you, you might do the thing that want. you thing that you want. now you might of things, put might eat a load of things, put on of weight, perhaps on a lot of weight, or perhaps you i want to you just thinking, oh, i want to get lee i mean, your get fit. lee i mean, your personal trainer tells a bit about what's what's your about what's the what's your story? opposed to story? and i'm still opposed to trying now about 22 years trying to now for about 22 years working industry. working in the fitness industry. and were saying and funny enough were saying that the all these people are getting divorced in january tend to up in february to pick them up in february march once they've over day march once they've got over day and the relationship and then
5:11 pm
they want to get back on places like tinder, badoo and all of and they want to get on dating sites and make yourselves look at a hell of a lot better and say that's where i get them picking them february picking them up in february march interesting stories with you on before you because you came on before and been diagnosed with and had been diagnosed with cancer. and had been diagnosed with cancer . absolutely so i was cancer. absolutely so i was diagnosed with cancer at beginning of this year. i think the on the with a personal best for my run and it's just it brought me back little bit from how hard fitness actually can be get yourself back into shape get a strength up, get the speed back up to where it was running and things like that. i still got another 3 to 5 months before i'm going to be pre—cancer fit. so anywhere near where i was pre—cancer but i suppose going that you probably have a more sort of affinity with people when training sometimes when they training sometimes when they training sometimes when training people you when you're training people you sort forget how difficult it sort of forget how difficult it can to get into can be for people to get into it. when you then experience, can be for people to get into it. vthink, ou then experience, can be for people to get into it. vthink, oh, hen experience, can be for people to get into it. vthink, oh, right,:perience, you think, oh, right, absolutely. so with beginners, i used them think, god, used to look at them think, god, i'm not. you can't even lift a
5:12 pm
five kilo dumbbell . i'm not. you can't even lift a five kilo dumbbell. but i'm not. you can't even lift a five kilo dumbbell . but no, five kilo dumbbell. but no, actually, because i lost a lot of muscle mass during my treatment. it's a book that for feedback where now know how much five kilo dumbbell does weigh and it is quite hard for some of the exercises interesting humility can sort of return when something bad happens but then obviously you're training people now to get fit. let's we have a little bit we have a little of some of the things that we can do with it. well, let's let's let's show people some of the things that you this up things that you set this up first. they this is first. and yes, they this is a video how to exercise video with how to exercise because a lot people just think they've go to the gym or they've got to go to the gym or they've got to go to the gym or they've buy the most they've got to buy the most expensive this is expensive equipment. this is literally and pounds literally body weight and pounds , my name say and over the , but my name say and over the next 60 seconds, i'm going teach you some effective exercises will improve your cardiovascular system . previous strength and system. previous strength and endurance and help you with your weight loss . running up and
5:13 pm
weight loss. running up and down. yeah so it's running on the spot. you can run on the spot. you can go out for, jog you go out for a walk as. well, if you're at home, i'm only going to spot box steps and, things that. good, easy way things like that. good, easy way . using the . as you see, they're using the bodies, press ups and it's an easy way to do so, which is the free press which is on free press up, which is on knees, which is on your knees. and then course just rolling and then of course just rolling with bands . and then of course just rolling with bands. so and then of course just rolling with bands . so that's working with bands. so that's working your to the your back, your back to the shoulders and your biceps and of course shoulder with course shoulder press with the band the band you actually sit on the band's these are all cheap pieces equipment can pieces of equipment that you can get shops and get from a lot of shops and major chains now selling them for squats are very for your squats are very convenient. yeah, shouldn't convenient. yeah, you shouldn't do that . you can't. you can't go do that. you can't. you can't go like that i from the like that. i say from the basement or things like that, but you can also do it on the chair on a set . yeah. and chair and on a set. yeah. and that makes it just bit that makes it just a little bit easier well, let's talk to easier and. well, let's talk to natalia kovalenko now. now she's a family therapist and she's going to help you once you've had that break up, you're now looking for someone, natalia. so talk about what is it that
5:14 pm
talk to about what is it that you do help people, sort of is it more to helping people get that relationship ? i hope it's that relationship? i hope it's people 22 years and to help many women to find partners and to how behave in relationship. what i know a lot of women they want to divorce and they say some some with him i am great am amazing problem in my husband and usually she thought she's got on sofa she doesn't do anything she's not motivated he's not take initiative i want something stronger men's but she not understand that if you have trauma of betrayal if you woman you cannot you divorce and you again attract a weak man problematic man difficult man . problematic man difficult man. first you need to work with yourself to start to trust men, to follow them. and if you don't learn to , change it. you can learn to, change it. you can divorce again and again and again. and if you have the same pattern of behaviour and my work to help people to go through this trauma and, to start to
5:15 pm
feel really happy with yourself. so when you trust you can be partnership, relationship it is interesting because i'm very with myself, but unfortunately that's that you describe those happening to me so what about for men if they're in a relationship how do they you know keep it keep it real and keep their partner interest it and you know at the moment i had one self managing everyone's i know have a lot of maturity single men who cannot find the woman and all women tell natalia where i can find a normal man majority men, girls in place have maturity. women if you are majority woman maturity and don't choose a man you say i want you to be very high. to be with a successful with big muscles. don't tell me to read my mind, to spiritual. no you need to understand men who you you choose them. you don't choose from men. you cannot say, i want to babies is you need to
5:16 pm
see which man has around you and which meant already choose you also want to increase your price on market and you have all the market when you want to sell yourself as survive as a husband and we can do to increase your price. we can make part of price. we can make part of price. and very often whenever because my glands we increase your price and after you attract better apartment in your life and they make marriage and i help my glands to all the steps from the be single to happy marriage and to have a child because maria also women can to because maria also women can to be pregnancy and the protocols of this is blockages but then beginning to understand you choose from men who choose you or you don't choose from all the men and such girls and how do you know if the man has chosen you know if the man has chosen you ? if you're more than six you? if you're more than six months alone, you have some troubles here . if you are six troubles here. if you are six months . salary
5:17 pm
troubles here. if you are six months. salary is it true? so this is realise. well, i don't know because then there's nothing seriously wrong with me. but. but why? well i love is the fact that i think we have to work out not just what we want, but what we need from but also what we need from a partner. i that's partner. i think that's important. so agree that important. so i do agree that going personal going on, that personal development taking time development journey, taking time to out is key. well, to figure that out is key. well, natalia, listen been natalia, listen up. in been alone while . there's alone for a while. there's something there. how can something wrong there. how can fix this ? so pain from fix this? so pain from experience it's a very often trauma from childhood there are more betrayal you afraid that your mother may believe maybe she was violent. his daughter was. or maybe your previous was a bit easier, maybe cheat you and you have this pain between you and this pain allow you to go in the relationship . if you go in the relationship. if you don't have trauma and you go out so many go to fitness to part man maybe it's like a man and if you make actions to make
5:18 pm
yourself to speak with them look no source not second but after one hungry you can make you somebody you feel well. natalia, listen. thank so much. you've got to come here next. we will get you in next week. you can give us the whole whole thing about this. thank you so natalia and totally brilliant. that's all your man lovely all how you get your man lovely and was and woman call that was interesting did you did interesting was that did you did any some of it resonated any of that some of it resonated with you. yeah, i loved and with you. yeah, i loved it and i yeah we've just got a high yeah maybe we've just got a high standards too. you know, i think there a you we there is a you know, we sometimes when single, sometimes when you're single, it's looking it's because you're looking for the person than the right person rather than maybe, not maybe, just maybe just not picking around you picking for the ones around you and if people and li. thank so much. if people want out about your want to find out about your training can they go? wwe training stuff, can they go? wwe first what first potato koto. sara, what about what i saw davis about you? what i saw davis and dotcom. now well, listen, thank you so much to guests coming you so much to guests for coming in us a sort of new in and giving us a sort of new sort of journalism, you want sort of journalism, if you want to get rid of partner, to get rid of your partner, get yourself a new yourself and then find a new one. forget entirely one. and don't forget entirely here next week as well give here next week as well to give us thank you so much, us more tips. thank you so much, you for coming you guys, for coming along. natalie natalia on natalie and sara and natalia on the i'm last year we
5:19 pm
the way. i'm asking last year we had three prime ministers and four chancellors. what is 2023 hold? have store for us all of hold? i have store for us all of that after the that looking ahead to this afternoon and uk is looking cold with rain and hail snow over scotland showers in bright spells elsewhere he has the details patchy rain and hail snow will continue to gradually clear to the east, but it will remain mostly cloudy with hail, fog lingering places but mostly cloudy day . start the but mostly cloudy day. start the new year across northern ireland . there will also be some patchy rain at times there'll be a mixture of bright and sunny spells , along with scattered spells, along with scattered showers across northwest england. the showers will be heavy and blustery at times . heavy and blustery at times. bright or sunny spells edge in from the west, although it stay rather cloudy in the they'll be locally heavy blustery showers in the west too . it's a rather in the west too. it's a rather cloudy and windy start to the
5:20 pm
new year across the midlands and isolated heavy showers possible in the west and mild fog cloudy and overcast conditions will across east anglia with limited bright spells. the odd is also possible cloud will thicken across southern england with outbreaks rain edging in from the south, heavy at times rather windy too, especially along the coast, but feeling mild full. and that's how the weather's shaping up for the rest of the day .

5:25 pm
is where he really inspired and excited the nation christmas us to remember that through the hard times and the good the people at the moment to give our lives meaning constant for so many people . oh sorry honestly many people. oh sorry honestly what a snooze fest lies the constant. yeah you a constant bore care thank you very . bore care thank you very. although labour are entering 2023 around 20 to 25 points ahead of the in the polls. the prime minister remains confident that the tories can turn this around mean this comes as an mp poll by vocal data suggests that many undecided tory voters may rob labour of a general election victory in 2024, as red wall voters may feel unprepared to voters may feel unprepared to vote for them . so in the great vote for them. so in the great british debate this hour, i'm asking what does the future hold for the conservatives and the labour party right now? let's talk about political commentator anna mcgovern. psychotherapy lucy parris good and also joseph is a political commentator and chairman of orthodox
5:26 pm
conservatives . right. so i'll conservatives. right. so i'll just start with anna because i'm on his hands today. just start with anna because i'm on his hands today . anna. so on his hands today. anna. so talk me. what do you think the two parties want, what does the future hold? what do you think? i mean, i think for all the general election, of course, is coming and i think for rishi soon he say anything that he needs , say at the moment to keep needs, say at the moment to keep his seat, warm in number 10 and labour the same time. i think with the two parties i struggle know the difference between you know, with i've heard their policies because we've seen with starmer he will he's starmer before he will he's marketing himself is that you know the new labour the blairite and he's he said before and you know he's he said before and you know he's he said before and then completely something else considerably different to them in the media they're all they're all and they're all doing that all the time. yes, of course. mean, they keep saying doing that all the time. yes, of courthing,1ean, they keep saying doing that all the time. yes, of courthing, they they keep saying doing that all the time. yes, of courthing, they do zy keep saying doing that all the time. yes, of courthing, they do anothersaying doing that all the time. yes, of courthing, they do another allng one thing, they do another all you this is you turning it's this is becoming bit of a u—turn becoming a bit of a of u—turn fest . what about you joseph what fest. what about you joseph what do you think these two parties one of them always saying same thing actually . well i think

thing actually. well i think we've got conservative government this rising to the left is that for consecutive premierships for a long time nothing's really changed. it's just got worse . i think we have just got worse. i think we have to remember that on pretty much every point the conservatives have failed to be conservative. the other hand, you have a dangerous lady taking starmer, who's made even more dangerous by that he seems boring by the fact that he seems boring enough not to matter. it does . enough not to matter. it does. he's got deep seated agenda and i think possibly even worse . i think possibly even worse. lucy what do you make of this then? because for us as electoral, we feel well, i mean, i personally feel politically homeless. there's not much to sort of separate the parties from each other . what do you from each other. what do you think the psychology behind think the psychology is behind for the electorate in particular, look this and particular, as we look this and think, know , because i feel think, you know, because i feel i'm this, i don't know what to do, what you think's going the psychology for of us psychology is for those of us who suffering, struggling to who are suffering, struggling to find vote for. find something to vote for. well, is that there well, the point is that there isn't a general election . so if
5:28 pm
isn't a general election. so if i were to ask you who you're going for tomorrow, you going to vote for tomorrow, you might with a slightly might come up with a slightly more hypothetical if was more hypothetical than if it was actually crunch time and you were about to go into the polling booth. and that's why polling booth. and that's why polling can be such an artificial construct. the key thing is politics is very much about narratives that we about the narratives that we tell ourselves about our lives and about lives of those around us. so we do go into the ballot box . we are thinking about, box. we are thinking about, first of all, how our life does it feel better? do we have more money in our pocket? can we afford our mortgage? has my granny had her hip replacement ? granny had her hip replacement? has my sister been able to find a has dad got a psychotherapist has my dad got a psychotherapist has my dad got a dentist ? all those things. a dentist? all of those things. so we ourselves, what's our life like now? then we ask ourselves the second thing who do we blame for ? do we blame the pandemic? for? do we blame the pandemic? do we blame fundamentally eton and the war in ukraine or we blame the government or the unions or other people who may kind of have some kind of
5:29 pm
influence into our vote? and the third thing is what my imagine my life will be like in the future. and that's hardest thing for any political party, particularly for the opposition . so going to be saying this is how am i going to feel in the hypothetical future if i am telling you a bit loosely, i was going to say it's very nice where you are, but where you're not. today, somewhere you look very sometimes like it's warm and lovely it's somewhere nice . and lovely it's somewhere nice. are poor old westminster are you up? poor old westminster . it's very balmy for this time of year . if . it's very balmy for this time of year. if you think about how sophisticated advertising as an industry , this is what industry, this is what politicians need to do. they need to sell a vision that's really hard for human. i want to put an end to the selling of vision because lose that point are very valid, very important actually it's not tomorrow the election is in a while. do you think that do you think there's a chance that we could flip it
5:30 pm
over and that the conservatives could find themselves in a good position. back in 2019, could find themselves in a good pjoined. back in 2019, could find themselves in a good pjoined the back in 2019, could find themselves in a good pjoined the conservative 2019, could find themselves in a good pjoined the conservative party i joined the conservative party because . i was i really because. i was i really resonated with messages of boris johnson and i truly believe that the conservatives with the right they were the right choice for this country . they were the right choice for this country. but of they were the right choice for this country . but of course this country. but of course there narrative that's there is the narrative that's stoked by the media and many people you know, they the newspapers see what newspapers and they see what they been reported they see what's been reported that will have you know, that will have a y you know, really influence on how really large influence on how they vote when comes to they that vote when it comes to they that vote when it comes to the general election. however there's been so damage over there's been so much damage over last few years and i think the pandemic , really hitting pandemic, a really big hitting point of the many people feel very disillusioned. they don't trust the party any more and they don't feel like they're getting what they're voting for and think that will be that really inflow . how then really inflow. how we then resolve the general election. well, just if what do you think then is the future of these these parties? is their future parties a possibility maybe parties a possibility that maybe a third party could emerge ? a third party could emerge? there's a possibility, but i think the reality is change
5:31 pm
their fortunes people are stop being lazy within the party. we've been talking for a long time now , reclaiming the party time now, reclaiming the party for the conservative, but i just don't see much of that happening. i think we've got initiatives now like conservative democrats associations, office ourselves that the orthodox and many other people who saying, no, actually this is our policy. if you're woke , you're green, if you're woke, you're green, if you're a liberal out and join a different one, why should have to go and find a third party when fact it's still what says on the tin right? it means be conservative so you know this broad church idea has been creeping into the edge of lunacy for me over the last few years. it's got to the point where so many different points of view, frankly that no one really knows what they believe . that's the believe anymore. and that's the death any party. i think death cry of any party. i think it's the same for major it's the same for both major parties labour doesn't have a coherent philosophy . no the coherent philosophy. no the same. that's all merging into one. listen, just a thank you very much, jason robertson. lucy

5:38 pm
both harry and the new year's resolution honours list shaun harries and deny him the pubuchy harries and deny him the publicity and give out knighthoods to acts bravery only paul not impressed by sir keir starmer's new year's message and says he would have been better with a violin on. you're talking a joke can see that. right let's get to my great british debate this hour. what does the hold for the conservatives and labour parties? lois and peter and also stephen join me . right. so what stephen join me. right. so what do you think? among us start with let's start with peter . with let's start with peter. this year we could potentially an election. do you think we will? i think as with any prime minister's in the polls, he'll go full five years. so, go the full five years. so, steve, correct me if i'm wrong, i think that means we could go as as january 20, as late as january 20, 25. exactly and i think exactly well, yeah. and i think that we'll have in january. that we'll have one in january. well but i think there's a there's a path for the tories victory . i think labour has victory. i think labour has every reason to be confident, you know , complacency is the you know, complacency is the enemy . i you know, complacency is the enemy. i think inflation will
5:39 pm
come down. i would argue that not because anything the government's done because of global , but government's done because of global, but if government's done because of global , but if inflation government's done because of global, but if inflation comes down, i suspect there could be a negative from the tories . an negative from the tories. an attempt to gloss over the cost of living crisis we've had. i very much feel the roots of that are in the tory prime ministers that we had . but the tory line, that we had. but the tory line, i think, however cynical, might be the economy recovering. let labour market. and that's why i think labour needs a strong team play think labour needs a strong team play the economic narrative and it it can win whenever be complacent. what do you think ? i complacent. what do you think? i think problem is that the think the problem is that the conservative party might be called the conservatives, but they're not actually in any way conservative whatsoever. you've got everything angle party has exactly the same at the moment. it's in between . yeah, i know it it's in between. yeah, i know it well, especially with zero and stuff. and i think the roots of the cost of living stuff is in zero actually. but leah anderson is a common sense politician top property , right? who actually property, right? who actually engages with the voters. and when you've got polling that say
5:40 pm
i think it was 30% at the red bull, voters don't know which way they're going to go. i the fly in the ointment actually be the reform party because i think i think labour will win and i've doing some figures and actually if they had landslide you'd have about 400 labour, 170 tory, but if reform came in and maybe if mr. farage could be persuaded to take it over , i don't know. and take it over, i don't know. and you could end up with 20 mps, 20 before mps . you could end up with 20 mps, 20 before mps. he could you could end up with 20 mps, 20 before mps . he could have the before mps. he could have the balance of power out of the thing. i think there's an element of pick and mix about politics nowadays, but i think the real problem is, i mean, for years first elected in years i first got elected in 1982, you know, and i think gladstone the prime minister gladstone was the prime minister that it. disraeli i that knows it. disraeli i forget, i tend to ask people forget, but i tend to ask people what they're going to. this morning where i live, in hanoveh morning where i live, in hanover, corner, we hanover, the poets corner, we had a new year's day walk to clear cobwebs, all civilised clear the cobwebs, all civilised well, it is well lay the well, it is very well lay the shepherd organised 18 i should have laid on mulled wine, but she look, i was she didn't but look, i was asking people. it was
5:41 pm
interesting is the reaction from those it they're those people is it who they're going next time? their going to for next time? their reaction know reaction is? i don't know because i have no confidence in the system i know the politicians said this is the problem. the politicians are gone.i problem. the politicians are gone. i take my of the blame i think has you know think everybody has you know i think everybody has you know i think you've you've got to actually fess up it sometimes actually fess up to it sometimes we have the country down we we have let the country down we have the down and have let the public down and we've politics, politics and we've let politics, politics and politicians job to we've let politics, politics and polinow1s job to we've let politics, politics and polinow to job to we've let politics, politics and polinow to sort job to we've let politics, politics and polinow to sort row job to we've let politics, politics and polinow to sort row back. 0 do. now to sort of row back. now, i keir starmer an now, i think keir starmer is an honest decent in boring you give me a bit of boring i sort after bofis me a bit of boring i sort after boris after liz truss gave me confidence we got boring. we've got as you say, not good. no, that's not good enough. there's no good enough to have your only trade. you're boring. trade. anything you're boring. also problem i'm having also the problem i'm having with keir that he's unable keir starmer is that he's unable to what the woman to work out what the woman has a penis not forgetting penis or not. i'm not forgetting that. penis or not. i'm not forgetting that . not prepared to forget that. i'm not prepared to forget that. i'm not prepared to forget that at all. i don't know. i'm sorry . let speak. i didn't sorry. i let you speak. i didn't interrupt. listened very interrupt. i listened very carefully. told up carefully. he told me to shut up now. didn't. i let now. but then i didn't. i let i let you speak. you know, i'm talking to don't talk over me. what here is that
5:42 pm
what i'm saying here is that keir starmer, you know, he has not any at all. he's not any mettle at all. he's remained quiet. he went on remained very quiet. he went on about, know, political about, you know, political bubble like partygate. was . bubble like partygate. he was. he's hiding his policies. i don't the fact that he's just going under radar , hoping going under the radar, hoping that get in default , that he'll get in by default, that he'll get in by default, that be a way to move that cannot be a way to move forward. that forward. i don't believe that the labour doesn't the labour party doesn't represent anymore represent working people anymore at all. they're the woke party and the tories don't represent aspirational people or middle classes anymore. so you know, we have we have a unity party, we have we have a unity party, we have a one party state which is just everyone's got exactly the same policies. just everyone's got exactly the same policies . they all want net same policies. they all want net zero as well. so that says nothing about you. let's, let's have it, let's bring on our great british their opportunity to on show and tell us to be on the show and tell us what they think about the topics we're discussing. and today we'll to edinburgh, we'll head to edinburgh, speak to although he's to brian deegan, although he's never says is are you never where he says is are you actually edinburgh time? never where he says is are you actu know, jinburgh time? never where he says is are you actuknow, inburgh time? never where he says is are you actu know, i you're time? never where he says is are you actuknow, i you're in time? never where he says is are you actuknow, i you're in solihull. you know, i you're in solihull. i'm in solihull. and i knew you all the time . but you could tell
5:43 pm
all the time. but you could tell that just for the background . that just for the background. this is because because he does it all the time. then he's not going to. i he's in going to. i think he's in solihull, somewhere solihull, he's then somewhere else edinburgh. solihull, he's then somewhere els
5:44 pm
speedboats instead of tankers . speedboats instead of tankers. and it's actually ridiculous , and it's actually ridiculous, but it's because nobody stands for really. you're right. i mean , keir starmer hasn't really come out and stumped exactly what he's about. but i think that's a ploy . a tactic. and that's a ploy. a tactic. and he's probably dead right because because the tories, you know, just they talking are completely alienating everybody and you know, it's ridiculous in terms of what rishi sunak has come to in try to mend is utterly self inflicted the tory party themselves in terms of i mean it's plain to anyone that in terms of that election that if you could go for liz as opposed to what rishi talking about and then was proven right instantly but when it was too late , we've but when it was too late, we've lost but when it was too late, we've los t £30 but when it was too late, we've lost £30 billion or whatever as a result that that just shows you where we are in terms of politics itself. the sum of his delaying tactics cost taxpayer a
5:45 pm
lot of money as well. and the things that he have done quicker where he lost money, too. and also, he's the also, let's not forget, he's the architect this. so architect of this. yeah. so don't just said don't believe what you just said there. but he's there. i appreciate, but he's just his own just trying to fix his own masters. prime, lovely to talk to got to you very briefly. you got about 10 do you have about 10 seconds. do you have any new year's resolution? and i do but i'm not telling you because in a few weeks you're going to ask me and i'm going to tell i didn't live to tell you that i didn't live to it. thought i'd do it. that's what i thought i'd do it. that's what i thought i'd do it.thank it. that's what i thought i'd do it. thank you so he's it. thank you so much. he's a great british voice. lovely to talk to you there in solihull. not he about not edinburgh. he moves about a bit i bit right. finally, though, i want focus on sport want to focus on sport specifically of specifically the issue of transgender sport transgender athletes in sport now council now the world boxing council called for the establishment of a category for a separate category for transgender boxers . but transgender boxers. but separately, rules come into force today for the world executive board . it's decided to executive board. it's decided to have a separate category for trans athletes based on testosterone levels. with me now is author journalist testosterone levels. with me now is authorjournalist helen is author journalist helen choice. good afternoon . helen. choice. good afternoon. helen. hi nice try. and i see so helen, is this a good idea? separate
5:46 pm
categories for trans athletes ? i categories for trans athletes? i mean, it's better than sticking people into the categories they identify. but there's nothing wrong with just saying compete according to their sex . like according to their sex. like unless a woman has taken testosterone, there's no reason she shouldn't compete in the women's category. if she shouldn't compete in the women's category . if she has, women's category. if she has, then she can't compete safely in then she can't compete safely in the women's category. and by a woman, mean biological woman, i mean any a biological woman? no matter how she identifies . and if you try and identifies. and if you try and make these separate transgender categories, you've categories, the risk is you've almost athletes them . and almost no athletes in them. and then you maybe you lump in the trans men of the trans women together. just we together. so i'd just say we should compete . according to sex should compete. according to sex in sports because that's why we have categories we have separate categories we don't categories don't have different categories for differently for people who feel differently about or people about their religion or people with different eye colour or a different hair colour or anything like that. just as anything like that. sex just as big divide physical big divide in, physical attributes that requires us to have two separate categories . so have two separate categories. so yeah, just don't think it's yeah, i just don't think it's going manageable have going to be manageable to have separate for separate categories for transgender small transgender as such. too small the number but but that's but
5:47 pm
the number but but that's but the problem then is that also the problem then is that also the different dictionary definition of women now includes trans am which is fine i mean it what want to do i, i personally define it as that i'll just find a trans woman who was a trans woman a woman as woman. woman and a woman as a woman. but we are now but the problem we are now facing in sports, facing is that in many sports, in some it has been acceptable for a trans woman to compete against a woman. and it is going on in some some places. against a woman. and it is going on in some some places . and to on in some some places. and to me and to most around me, it seems blatantly obvious . but seems blatantly obvious. but there's an elephant in the room that for some others they don't get it. i don't understand what what why people get . i don't what why people get. i don't really either. i think it's extraordinary . i really either. i think it's extraordinary. i mean, really either. i think it's extraordinary . i mean, it's it extraordinary. i mean, it's it seems to me that , you know, seems to me that, you know, anyone who has ever know, any mother who's ever arm wrestled her 14 year old son would know that you can't have women and men compete fairly and safely against each other. and i mean, we all know that in mammals there are two sexes and that the sexes change. so i struggle even after writing a book about these issues, i struggle at trying to
5:48 pm
explain to people what's going on because it's so stupid . you on because it's so stupid. you know, obviously sport is about bodies , not about identities. bodies, not about identities. obviously it's about physical capabilities. obviously it's about physical capabilities . you know, we don't capabilities. you know, we don't allow people to identify as under 18 when they're over 18 for sports purposes . we don't for sports purposes. we don't like identify into the like people to identify into the we people identify we don't allow people identify as over 65 competition wins. so quite a hell do we allow male people to identify into female competitions. there's clearly a problem here. it clearly has to be sorted. some sports have taken the necessary steps . taken the necessary steps. swimming is a notable first mover in saying that the female category is a closed category thatis category is a closed category that is open that available only for female people, people whose first certificate said female when they were born and who have not taken. and then everyone else compete in an open category that's. the best solution and i want to bring in my panel as well. so welcome to my panel, alan. alan's here. i've got to tell you again . no, stephen, i'm tell you again. no, stephen, i'm on the silent one. yeah, he's
5:49 pm
one of a question fan. another with alan about this because you seem to think it's what was your view on this transgender. so i think what they've done in swimming is actually very, very sensible because who on earth is going actually forward going to actually come forward into think into other category? but i think the problem start with a the problem is we start with a bafic the problem is we start with a basic where there's basic premise where there's a dichotomy think you the dichotomy where we think you the one the other then one thing or the other and then it gets muddy. and i think the point that cannot point is that we cannot going into subdividing and subdividing subdividing. there's subdividing. i think there's been there's women there's been there's women and there's people who trans and people who are who trans and transgender. so they do all of this. mean i mean, should they this. i mean i mean, should they have a separate category then? this. i mean i mean, should they have i separate category then? this. i mean i mean, should they have i thought* category then? this. i mean i mean, should they have i thought itategory then? this. i mean i mean, should they have i thought it wasory then? this. i mean i mean, should they have i thought it was very, en? well, i thought it was very, very , the boxing very sensible, the boxing thing saying be saying that there should be a category. because maybe category. yeah, because maybe the, you know, the pole is quite small. i think it might be quite , but maybe it won't be quite as small people think. well small people think. well, well alan that the bubble and alan said that the bubble and you seem to think otherwise that there separate there shouldn't separate category. i think they should if people confused of people are confused in terms of the thing i want to what the gender thing i want to what they're going do about people they're going to do about people who non—binary who claim to be non—binary so the sporting competitions the few sporting competitions have offered prizes for know
5:50 pm
have now offered prizes for know male, female and non—binary and guess what the male non—binary people be the female people. so i just don't see that this is feasible . you know, you can you feasible. you know, you can you can dance around all you like. but the fact is that sport is about bodies and bodies are about bodies and bodies are about sex , not identity. it is a about sex, not identity. it is a good point. once you start going down sort hole, you down this sort of hole, then you end creating different end up creating different categories. it's almost like the whole gender identity. so you've got what is it you've got yourself self all the different . i know i've heard of , yourself self all the different . i know i've heard of, you know, a lot of the media. you've mentioned the all the gender types. yeah i mean according to i think it's facebook are 76 genders. so it's not justifiable to have separate category for men who identify as women or women who identify as men. because why would you have a separate category for these people. more sense people. it makes no more sense than having, you know, a christian boxing category or something . you know, it's not something. you know, it's not based material. something. you know, it's not based material . and sport based on any material. and sport is about material reality. your bodies better. have you got something to pose to having ? is
5:51 pm
something to pose to having? is the art to this? you've been quite quiet about this gender stuff. learning lot from stuff. i'm learning a lot from this discussion, but then this discussion, but think then the swimming that you the idea in swimming that you have open category and a have an open category and a closed one is quite interesting. i'd a bit more about i'd like to a bit more about that well, think that because well, i think with you conclusion, the starting point to discussion is that there's an unfair in having someone born a man, someone a woman someone born a man, someone a woman compete against each other . in someone like boxing. there's danger associated as there's a danger associated as well. of refining well. so the idea of refining aquatic ways, but still being aquatic ways, but it still being aquatic ways, but it still being a manageable number does seem quite yeah it does. quite sensible. yeah it does. but let's face it, though , it's but let's face it, though, it's the men will always win the men. the men will always win if they're against women in of the categories. so to the sporting categories. so to me, sort of misogyny me, it's sort of lot of misogyny that was not darts. well, what am i wrong? to me smacks of a am i wrong? to me it smacks of a bit yeah mean if bit of misogyny. yeah mean if you want women to have fair competition, you're going to have to a competition that have to have a competition that excludes people . and excludes all male people. and actually, enough say in actually, funnily enough say in sports that there are male competitions and female competitions, actually competitions, but actually usually competition is usually the male competition is open females just don't open to females just don't qualify. nothing
5:52 pm
