primary or prep school in south—west london. the local mp , stephen hammond, saying he understands a number of those injured road in a injured in camp road in a critical condition. >> the london air ambulance, as well as specialist fire brigade recovery units , have also been recovery units, have also been involved. gb news uses home and security editor mark white joins us in the studio . what's the us in the studio. what's the latest, mark? i believe it's the last day of term at this school. >> yeah, and it's a full emergency response. clearly to the incident that unfolded just before 10:00 this morning. we understand that the vehicle involved is a land rover, one of the newer land rover makes that has collided with one of the school building things. now, as mark mentioned in the introduction, there , introduction, there, confirmation that out of nine people injured, so a significant injury to all seven of those are children. now, according to the local mp, stephen hammond, he
12:09 pm
believes that that particular building being catered for children aged between 4—4 and eight. so the younger age range in what is a preparatory school for children aged between four and 11, it's part of the study prep group which have a number of schools and this particular build thing, again, we must say this is according to that local mp caters for children aged between 4 and 8. also worrying news coming through from him in that he has been told at the scene that a number of those who have been injured are reported to be in a critical condition. >> yeah, some reports coming through suggesting that driver, believed to be a woman, may have suffered some kind of medical incident behind the wheel which led to this . but clearly, this led to this. but clearly, this is a major rear impact given the
12:10 pm
number of ambulances, police vehicles and indeed fire brigade cutting units. we can see in these pictures this is a major response, isn't it? >> well , just given the number >> well, just given the number of casualty , as you would always of casualty, as you would always get a very significant response like this. >> and we were remarking earlier and seeing the first pictures coming out, just how many emergency service vehicles were there. but it's now clear that with nine people injured , some with nine people injured, some of those according, again, to the local mp, in a critical condition. that's why it's multiple land ambulances, including the hazardous area response ambulances who always attend major incidents here, ambulance personnel on scene as well. and the london fire brigade having sent a number of appliances, including two of their specialist rescue tenders. now they are at the cutting edge of effectively cutting out those who may be trapped or in
12:11 pm
precarious positions, these hydraulic cutters. >> and they literally they can take a i mean, every fire appliance has cutting equipment and can deal with quite a range of incidents. >> but when you're dealing with very significant , serious very significant, serious incidents, you require a specialist rescue unit that has all of the equipment and also has all of the special teams on board who know just how to deal with those who could be trapped in the most awful of circumstances. >> in terms of the location, there's two buildings. i think one of them is right in the centre of wimbledon village, this building this this building where this incident has happened is on the edge wimbledon. common a lot edge of wimbledon. common a lot of dog walkers, the police are saying, please avoid the area us and the area around the school is , we're told, quite a narrow is, we're told, quite a narrow road around the school itself. >> and in fact, the i think the road around the school has a 20 mile an hour limit on it. >> mark, we're just going to interrupt you because we have stephen hammond, the local mp ,
12:12 pm
stephen hammond, the local mp, joining us who's been joining us now, who's been obviously updating people on what's happening . mr hammond, what's happening. mr hammond, thank for joining what's happening. mr hammond, thank forjoining us on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. forjoining us on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. what ining us on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. what cang us on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. what can you on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. what can you tell on what's happening. mr hammond, tha news. what can you tell us] gb news. what can you tell us about what you've learned so far ? >> well, 7— >> well, i've 7 >> well, i've learnt that this is a major incident and has been declared as a major incident. you will have seen the police have said they're not regarding this as terrorist incident . this as a terrorist incident. it's terribly distressing and very sad. but i'm grateful for how quickly the air ambulance, the ambulance , the paramedics, the ambulance, the paramedics, the ambulance, the paramedics, the fire service and the police were able to respond . and i were able to respond. and i understand there have been a number of casualties. i understand a number of those may be critical. and i've had the chance to speak to the local police commander and to the chief executive of the council . chief executive of the council. and all support is being given as needed . as needed. >> and mr hammond , what can you >> and mr hammond, what can you tell us about the school itself ? we know it's a prep school. we believe it was the last day of term. i mean , you you probably term. i mean, you you probably know some parents. do you at the school ? school? >> probably, yeah, probably do.
12:13 pm
i mean, many years ago, my own daughter went to the school, so i the well and i know i know the area well and i know obviously know area well, obviously know the area well, but the school well. but i also know the school well. so hugely well respected local school with the school that deals with the younger girls of the they they cater for . so the ones usually cater for. so the ones usually between 4 and 8 it's a very secluded part of wimbledon. it's right up on the common towards the wimbledon common and royal wimbledon golf club. it's known it's on a road which is camp roadis it's on a road which is camp road is known as part of the quadrangle . it's a very tight quadrangle. it's a very tight road. and so normally it's very difficult to build up any speed along the road because people are parked and you have to wait for people to pass. you and so that's really and that gives you some context . about a mile some context. about a mile outside wimbledon village . outside wimbledon village. >> yeah. and we understand it was a land rover involved. so a land rover going down that road is not going to have a lot of space. >> no, it's not. and so , i mean, >> no, it's not. and so, i mean, i can't i mean, like you, i
12:14 pm
can't speculate on how that happened, but it clearly was a land rover and it clearly wouldn't have had a lot of space. and i you know, and it's extraordinary that it's managed to get break through the fencing and into the into the school . and into the into the school. >> yeah. and certainly some reports, according to the local newspaper, the evening standard, the evening paper for london, suggesting that the car hit the school building at some speed. and obviously those details to be established. but do you know what's happening in terms of keeping parents up dated and the school obviously informing people about what the latest is ? >> 7. >>i 7_ >> i haven't 7— >> i haven't i ? >> i haven't i haven't 7 >> i haven't i haven't got any firm details on that, but i understand that obviously everybody will who will have been taken off the site and parents will have been an operation i'm sure will have been organised. i haven't got that detail to hand . and but as that detail to hand. and but as i say, as you said, it's the last day of term and so it's a very, very sad end to this term for the school. >> yeah, but looking at the
12:15 pm
scale of the response , they've scale of the response, they've been there for more than two hours now. clearly the emergency services are well rehearsed at these things and it looks as if they've really deployed some speed to this. >> well, i think, as i said right at the start , this is a right at the start, this is a major incident. they declared it a major incident. so the very by that very nature, the sort of scale response, scale and size of response, they're concerned they're obviously very concerned , i guess, the fire , i guess, that the fire services were there because they would about would have been worried about structural the structural integrity of the building . can't i don't know. building. i can't i don't know. but assuming that's they but i'm assuming that's why they were assuming that were there. i'm assuming that the you have an air the fact you have an air ambulance there means that they wanted to get paramedic to there as quickly as possible and people to hospital if necessary . so, yes, i mean, it's an extraordinary scale of response. >> and even though this is obviously a busy part of south—west london, wimbledon itself is quite a close knit community, isn't it? >> certainly is. and these will undoubtedly be all local families, as i said, it's a well respected local school . well, respected local school. well, most of the girls who go there
12:16 pm
will be from local families in and around wimbledon and all of whom will be friends. and, you know, it's a it's a great sadness for the local community. >> indeed . mr hammond, thank you >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you very much indeed forjoining us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update| indeed for joining us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update us deed for joining us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update us here forjoining us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update us here on joining us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update us here on gbiing us >> indeed. mr hammond, thank you ve update us here on gb news.. to update us here on gb news. stephen mp there for wimbledon. >> you. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> is there any more information coming to you, mark, at this moment? >> well, i note that stephen hammond there is talking about it being a major it being declared a major incident. that may well be true , but i haven't seen anything from the metropolitan police officially to say that that is the case. they normally do make that kind of information available . the latest update on available. the latest update on it doesn't talk about it being a major incident declared anyway , major incident declared anyway, but they are talking about remaining on the scene of a serious collision. interestingly in terms of the driver there, they're saying that the driver of the vehicle stopped at the
12:17 pm
scene and there has been no arrests . now, that's police arrests. now, that's police parlance in that sense, stopped at the scene. they mean effectively that the driver is not driven off, you know, as sometimes happens in road crashes, you get a fail to stop and they drive off that . whoever and they drive off that. whoever that driver is has remained at the scene. it may have been because they suffered a medical episode confirmed press reports certainly that there may have been some kind of medical incident is the way it's being termed. >> but again, we've got no confirmation of that. and that will of the will be part of the investigation going on. but, i mean, bringing investigation going on. but, i mean, interesting bringing investigation going on. but, i mean, interesting point bringing investigation going on. but, i mean, interesting point there. 1ging up an interesting point there. and for all and that is the access for all these emergency vehicles to get there this tiny lane and there down this tiny lane and i think we've counted at least eight in those eight ambulances in those pictures that we've we've had coming press association. >> yeah, it's clear from the pictures, can see that the pictures, you can see that the they like they look effectively like country that's why you country lanes. so that's why you have got emergency service vehicles just stacked up down those lanes or just around the school itself off and the
12:18 pm
school, of course, clearly there were pupils still there at that time . so we have had no time. so we have had no indication an officially as to what the conditions of any of those injured are other than what stephen hammond is saying. and we can, i think to some degree, trust what he's been told, because he says he had spoken to the police commander on the scene and they are telling him that a number of those injured are in a critical condition. also reports , mark, condition. also reports, mark, that they are still working to remove some of the casualties from from this incident . from from this incident. >> that's more than two hours on from from when it happened, which was just before 10:00 this morning. and also , it's also the morning. and also, it's also the location of it is right near a golf club, right near the common where lots of people will have been walking their dogs. so it
12:19 pm
does make you wonder who else could have potentially been caught up this. yeah. caught up in this. yeah. >> and in the first >> i mean and in the first minutes after an incident like this, there is obvious concern about luke. could this be, you know, a deliberate act in nature 7 know, a deliberate act in nature ? could it be terrorist related 7 ? could it be terrorist related ? the police were very quick mark and pip to point out that this was not is not being treated as a terrorist incident. and also just adding that the driver there has stayed at the scene is not run off or anything like that. and they haven't made any arrests. so i think that tells you all you need really about how they're treating this. they're treating this as a terrible accident and not a deliberate act. >> and i think it underlines as how how small an area it is, how potentially narrow this this lane is , because people are lane is, because people are being urged to avoid the area, to allow for that access for the emergency services. >> yeah. i mean , the biggest jam
12:20 pm
>> yeah. i mean, the biggest jam there will not be members of the public, to be honest. there might be some local residents that have come out. you're not you don't really see lots of people getting in their cars and driving down there. the biggest log jam there will be the emergency services themselves trying to get parked up. we see, i think, some of the vehicles on the common itself and others lining both sides of these very narrow roads. in that first instance, i think we've just got a live shot coming through. >> mark, to actually show a bit more detail about what's going on.and more detail about what's going on. and if you are just joining us here on gb news, let's update you with we've got so far. you with what we've got so far. this now this is the live shot now looking towards those looking towards all those vehicles on the common. you can see brigade tenders as see the fire brigade tenders as well police and well as the police cars and ambulances. as mark saying, ambulances. as mark was saying, cutting used cutting equipment being used earlier and all these tenders do have these hydraulic devices to cut through car roofs and so on. but given the number of ambulances and vehicles, they're still at the scene. this is
12:21 pm
clearly something that's still ongoing . ongoing. >> yeah, without a doubt . >> yeah, without a doubt. there's a very good point. if all the casualties have been removed from the scene, you might still have another ambulance still there on standby. just in case. but the fact is, there's still a very significant multi pronged emergency service response. there. you can see an ambulance there with the fire service fire officers vehicle in front of that. and then in front of that is one of the hazardous area response vehicles from london ambulance service . ambulance service. >> that's that mercedes van there. >> and just down at the end of the path that we can see, that's one of the specialist rescue units , by the looks of it, at units, by the looks of it, at the end there. and as i say, they are really best prepared to deal with these very difficult situations because we don't know how individuals have become
12:22 pm
trapped. if they become trapped because of some falling debris in part of the building that the vehicles struck have they've been trapped in or under the vehicle? we don't know that. but regardless, the rescue teams practise for this every day. they don't just practise for it. they don't just practise for it. they live and breathe that every day. they're called out multiple times across london, there are about eight of these specialist rescue vehicles spread right across london itself and able to respond. >> i think it's dr. abc , isn't >> i think it's dr. abc, isn't it? danger, response, airway, breathing , circulation. so breathing, circulation. so clearly, if there is a building involved, they want to make sure that that is and that that is safe and structurally sound before carrying on to the next stage of the operation. >> inside that building, we >> and inside that building, we understand seven children injured , two adults. and those injured, two adults. and those children , it is a prep school. children, it is a prep school. so those children will be could be very young indeed. i mean, ages range from reception up to year six. >> yes. well i think you can see
12:23 pm
another ambulance coming into shot there. so an indication that this is still a very active scene . yeah. so yes, still with scene. yeah. so yes, still with the blue lights on, leaving saint george's hospital now is the nearest major trauma unit in that area . so that would be in that area. so that would be in a position to quickly deal with those probably from land ambulances. but with your air ambulance, they can get to other major trauma centres just to explain to us, i mean, when these incidents happen, the hospitals are put on standby pretty early receive multiple casualties. >> so they will be ready and waiting for whatever's coming through on that ambulance. >> that's it? yes i mean, effectively the batphone, they call the emergency red call it or the emergency red phone, usually within a casualty unit rings and the staff there are told that there is a major incident unfolding. and to expect casualties are not normally given too much
12:24 pm
information in the first instance. but what you often get then is when the land, ambulances and the air ambulance are en route, making their way to the hospital, they update through their ambulance control room to the hospital and that is patched through to the attending medics so that they know what to prepare for in the major trauma units. >> just something coming through already . already. >> response from the world of politics. shadow home secretary yvette cooper has just issued a tweet. thinking of all the families , pupils and staff families, pupils and staff affected by this terrible incident at a primary school. thank you, to the thank you, she said to the emergency services on site for their swift response. and it does seem they were there does seem that they were there very quickly. but i mean, looking picture, one can looking at this picture, one can understand difficult was understand how difficult it was for get down this narrow for them to get down this narrow lane amount of lane with the amount of equipment needed. lane with the amount of eqlyeah nt needed. lane with the amount of eqlyeah .t needed. >> yeah. >> yeah. >> so you know, stephen >> and so you know, stephen hammond, again, was suggesting that this is not a lane that typically you could build up a lot of speed on. it is a narrow
12:25 pm
lane and a sort of a countryside area just on the edge of wimbledon common there. but if it is a medical episode , what we it is a medical episode, what we sometimes see in crashes like this, if someone suffers the likes of a heart attack or some other very significant and sudden medical episodes, sometimes they just the body reacts and they put their their foot down on the accelerator and we don't know that that is the case, but they are confirmed that the driver has stayed on scene. >> i'm just looking at some pictures that are on the internet showing the vehicle actually having gone through what appears to be a fence or some kind of hedging across an area of grass and then into the side of what looks to be a modern building rather than some of the older sort of brick walls and so on, that we can see here, as you say, a more modern land
12:26 pm
roven as you say, a more modern land rover, either a discovery or defend rather than the old fashioned cars that we think of. so clearly, it's maybe gone at some speed or impact to get through what is maybe a fence or a hedge area to reach that building looking at the location, it's quite a stretch, quite away from this narrow lane i >> -- >> if you actually look at where the location is, it's quite a modern building that it appears to have gone into . yeah. yeah. to have gone into. yeah. yeah. it does make you wonder what speed the land rover might have been travelling and i mean , been travelling and i mean, judging from what we can see, it doesn't look as though that that building has suffered any major or major structural damage . or major structural damage. >> and so the indication perhaps that the those who have been injured were perhaps injured as the vehicle was careering towards the building itself. so that's just one angle. sometimes these can be a little misleading thing, but it certainly doesn't
12:27 pm
indicate that there's been any kind of building collapse of any significance anyway . so quite significance anyway. so quite where those us children were who were injured , we don't know at were injured, we don't know at this stage. >> it was 5 to 10 in the morning. there could have been an assembly. i mean, what we do know is that it was their last day of term. they would have day of term. so they would have been to break up been very excited to break up for long summer holidays. for the long summer holidays. and there are blankets and medical ground there medical kit on the ground there indicating that this indicating perhaps that this area vehicle access area where the vehicle access the maybe where the school, this is maybe where the school, this is maybe where the concentrating their rescue efforts and medical aid and so on. >> so basically, just to explain to people just joining us, we've had these pictures of this area of the common, the lane, which is where the emergency vehicles are . but the is where the emergency vehicles are. but the primary is where the emergency vehicles are . but the primary rescue are. but the primary rescue effort is still actually at the school building itself. yeah i'm just looking at another picture that's just been tweeted out . that's just been tweeted out. >> if there's any way we can bfing >> if there's any way we can bring that to the audience, we will at some point. but that does show this vehicle impact .
12:28 pm
does show this vehicle impact. seeing the building . there's a seeing the building. there's a bit of damage to the front of the vehicle. but it doesn't look like there's much other than some superficial damage to one of the pillars of the building itself. >> so i mean, obviously, this is this is pure speculation, but it could be that children were outside outside rather than inside . yes when you look at inside. yes when you look at where this land rover has ended up. >> yes. no, i think certainly that logic would suggest that the children were injured as the vehicle was careering towards that building. >> let us update you on what we do know. if you're just joining us here on gb news and that is that police say seven children, two adults injured. they say, after a collided with after a car collided with a primary school building in south london. so the indication it as we say it has hit the building itself. a statement from scotland yard say this was a serious collision at this primary school in wimbledon at
12:29 pm
954 tom moore this morning in camp road . and as we can see camp road. and as we can see from these pictures, a huge emergency response following with the fire tenders, the specialist cutting crews , london specialist cutting crews, london air ambulance paramedics and indeed mark, you were saying, obviously the specialist officers then that coordinate and oversee this whole operation. >> yes , indeed. >> yes, indeed. >> yes, indeed. >> so i mean, the hazardous area response units, for instance , as response units, for instance, as you might think in the name , you might think in the name, they only attend chemical spills and things like that. but they are senior officers within london ambulance service and indeed within ambulance services right across the country. and they they take on a role effectively as ground command ers and set up control rooms. they have specialist training some of the time to go into particularly dangerous and hazardous areas. so something like this, if they're working in confined spaces or working with
12:30 pm
people who are trapped, it would be potentially your hazardous area response paramedic s who would be in there working alongside those firefighters . alongside those firefighters. >> another ambulance car just moving there . and of course, we moving there. and of course, we did see this ambulance with blue lights leaving about five, ten minutes this very minutes ago. so this is very much an ongoing operation . we'll much an ongoing operation. we'll keep updated, course, on keep you updated, of course, on this. let's get the latest this. but let's get the latest headunes this. but let's get the latest headlines now with rhiannon . headlines now with rhiannon. >> thank you, mark. good afternoon . it's just gone 1231. afternoon. it's just gone 1231. your top stories from the gb news room . seven children and news room. seven children and two adults have been injured at a primary school in wimbledon in south west london. officers were called just before 10:00 this morning to reports a car believed to be a land rover had crashed into a building at the

12:36 pm
radio. >> welcome back to the live desk. let's update you now on this breaking news with sarah. children and two adults hurt at the scene here in wimbledon . the scene here in wimbledon. this is our shot live there where we are being told by the local mp, stephen hammond, several of those hurt are in a critical condition. it was the last day of term at this girls prep school and it appears a land rover discovery or defender rather, one of the new types has gone through an area of fencing and then collided with the school building. but we believe there may have been an event going on in grass, land or grass area just outside the main school building . school building. >> mark, can we bring you in with what you can tell us? you are across this? >> yeah, i mean, i think it's becoming a little clearer what might have happened there because were a bit confused because we were a bit confused seeing 1 or 2 images that appeared to show that building not badly or structurally damaged. and a vehicle not again
12:37 pm
, badly damaged either. it seems there are from 1 or 2 images that we've been able to access. there are tables that have been set up with one in particular with a white tablecloth across it, outside the front of this building , just very close to the building, just very close to the spot where this vehicle collided with the building itself . and it with the building itself. and it may well have been that there was because we see this, of course, in schools right across the country last day of term events outside . and just to send events outside. and just to send the pupils off on holiday with a smile and it may well have been that there was some kind of event taking place on the grassland at the front of the school there the last day of term and that the vehicle may well have collided with people and in that area, this is a prep school. >> these are children that would range from the ages of three d
12:38 pm
to 11 would have been in great spirits today when i was at school, you never had normal lessons on your last day of term. it was a fun day . term. it was a fun day. >> yeah. and stephen hammond suggesting again, he's the local mp suggest saying that that building that was struck by this vehicle is a building that normally houses those at the school who are aged from 4 to 8. so 4 to 8 year olds. however if it was an event outside the school, it could have been the, you know, for right through to 11 age group. we just don't know that at this stage. but there's also from what we can see on that grass, there's also a yellow tarpaulin that's been laid down on the grass . now, laid down on the grass. now, these are these triage areas that they set up. they put the tarpaulin down, they lay the casualties . on the on the on the casualties. on the on the on the grass, on the tarpaulin itself
12:39 pm
so they can triage them, treat them according to the severity of their injuries. them according to the severity of their injuries . the most of their injuries. the most severely injured are treated first, of course, and then moved off to another location for more treatment or indeed to hospital. we've also seen some other images of white blankets around and a what looks like it may be and a what looks like it may be a person who is being treated by the emergency services, a sort of triage as well as well. >> yeah, but that's not that's not a live image. >> so that person may well have been taken to hospital. >> indications , of course, that >> indications, of course, that our live shots saw that ambulance lights ambulance with blue lights leaving about 20 minutes ago. we're just being told that the parents quite understandably, who are very worried about the situation, been turning up all morning long when they're arriving scene. we're arriving at the scene. we're being asked being told they're being asked to names and to register their names and details officer details with a police officer because clearly, given the size of the school, there may be many children, of course, attending today. children, of course, attending today . and the police have got
12:40 pm
today. and the police have got today. and the police have got to go through this process of actually informing parents as to what's happened. >> we're also just that >> we're also just hearing that a police cordon is in a large police cordon is in place onto wimbledon place stretching onto wimbledon common office. others are moving dog walkers and passers by away from the scene. and that air ambulance is still on the edge of the common number of ambulances parked nearby. as you will have seen from the picture. and by all accounts, eyewitnesses is who do live in this area are saying that it is absolute chaos at the moment. there's one local resident who says , my daughter used to go to says, my daughter used to go to this school . it's says, my daughter used to go to this school. it's an all girls school, wimbledon is like a little village. and for this to happenin little village. and for this to happen in wimbledon is unheard of. the shadow home secretary, yvette cooper , she has tweeted yvette cooper, she has tweeted saying , thinking of all the saying, thinking of all the families, pupils and staff affected by this terrible incident. >> well, i'm told that the home secretary, suella braverman, will be issuing a statement shortly as well. we've had confirmation from the metropolitan police that they
12:41 pm
are not treating this as a terrorist incident . and indeed, terrorist incident. and indeed, within their latest statement, they say that the driver stayed at the scene and there has been no arrest. so that absolutely gives you all the indication you need that this is being treated as a terrible accident, rather than some kind of a deliberate act. now, we don't believe at this stage that there are any other individuals trapped apart, and that would stand to reason as well. if we're talking about perhaps people that came by their injuries, by being struck by the vehicle as it careered towards the school building, then they wouldn't necessarily be trapped , although it's be trapped, although it's possible someone was trapped underneath the vehicle at the school. but we don't believe there are any more people trapped at this time . but they trapped at this time. but they clearly have been triaged , clearly have been triaged, treated at the scene. >> it's interesting. we've still got apparently about 20 or so ambulances on standby. guy still in this this area composed
12:42 pm
nearly three hours ago now. >> it was just before 10:00 this morning. >> yeah. so and camp road, which is the area that we've been showing you in the stills leading to the school, we've still got the two fire appliances , as as mark was appliances, as as mark was saying, with specialist cutting equipment. but it does appear that the vehicle itself is intact. that the vehicle itself is intact . they've not actually intact. they've not actually done anything to cut anyone out of the vehicle. it appears that what's happened is in this grass area in front of this main school building . school building. >> yeah. i mean, you will see, for instance, a vehicle road crash. many people will have seen images of vehicles that get the roof removed effectively, which is what often happens when people are trapped. it's difficult to reach them. the fire brigade get in with what they call the jaws of life and they call the jaws of life and they just with these hydraulic cutters are used to remove the windows, bars, de—man hammond that gives then the paramedics a
12:43 pm
chance to treat someone inside the vehicle. so as mark was pointing out, quite rightly , the pointing out, quite rightly, the roof is intact of this vehicle. it doesn't look like they've removed anybody from the vehicle itself. and anyway, looking at the damage , although it's the damage, although it's clearly been an impact, it doesn't look like a very high speed impact on the building. judging by all the damage, although we should also say, of course, with this type of land roven course, with this type of land rover, they're pretty sturdy vehicles . vehicles. >> they are. and the road that it would have been travelling down, we understand from the mps, stephen hammond, we're looking now. camp looking at it now. this is camp camp understand is you camp road. i understand is you can see a very narrow road with i think that says a 20 mile per hour speed limit. and that is the road that is alongside this school building still a massive police presence there. this incident happened at just before 10:00 this morning. so nearly three hours ago. and still a
12:44 pm
huge emergency. >> we have had a couple of those ambulance vehicles. well, yeah, they're moving away now. so i just wonder, mark, whether this indicates perhaps that this triage sort of part of this operation is coming to an end . operation is coming to an end. three ambulances, the support vehicle as well, moving off. so it may well be that this part of what's normally quite a well rehearsed , orchestrated rehearsed, orchestrated operation is conclude ing. >> yeah . i operation is conclude ing. >> yeah. i mean operation is conclude ing. >> yeah . i mean you will always >> yeah. i mean you will always see with a major incident like this when you've got very significant resources who turning up at the scene they are deaung turning up at the scene they are dealing with the incident . but dealing with the incident. but then when the incident is over , then when the incident is over, you will often get an on site debrief or it will be a while before more emergency services are packing up all of their equipment . and the indications equipment. and the indications we're getting is in terms of the actual rescue operation as such, that appears to be either an end or in its end stages with the majority, if not all of those
12:45 pm
who've been injured, taken away from the scene. that's certainly the indication we're getting at this time . this time. >> a few moments ago, we spoke to conservative mp for wimbledon , stephen hammond. he said given the scale of the response from emergency services, he believes this is a very serious incident . this is what he had to say. so hugely well respected local school. >> it deals with the younger girls of the they they cater for. so the ones usually between 4 and 8. um, it's a very secluded part of wimbledon . it's secluded part of wimbledon. it's right up on the common towards the wimbledon common and royal wimbledon golf club. it's known it's on a road which is camp roadis it's on a road which is camp road is known as part of the quadrangle. it's a very tight road. and so normally it's very difficult to build up any speed along that road because people are parked and you have to wait for people to pass. you >> stephen hammond speaking to us a little earlier. and of course, keep updated us a little earlier. and of cotthis keep updated us a little earlier. and of cotthis continuing updated
12:46 pm
us a little earlier. and of cotthis continuing operationted on this continuing operation with the confirmation nine injured, including seven children, some of them said to be in critical condition. more on as we get it. on that as we get it. >> but oh, we are sorry. marked interrupt. mark, you've got something suella braverman has justi'm to hear about >> i'm saddened to hear about the tragic incident at the school in wimbledon this morning. my thoughts she says, are with everyone affected. she said, i'd like to thank all the emergency responders at the scene at this important time. she said it's important now that there allowed to carry out their investigation. mark thank you. >> we will bring you the very latest on this very serious incident. now though, we are going to tell you about the thousands people that thousands of people that are expected to line streets in expected to line the streets in cardiff today for the funeral of two teenagers died in a bike two teenagers who died in a bike crash in may that led to a major riot. >> well, you may remember kyrees sullivan and harvey evans being followed by a police van just moments were in a

moments before they were in a fatal crash on snowdon road . fatal crash on snowdon road. well, let's get more now. the national reporter paul hawkins, joining cardiff the joining us in cardiff on the stand. paul, you were stand. of course, paul, you were down that occasion down there at that occasion and now community together now a community coming together to these two to remember these two youngsters. yeah absolutely. >> and in fact, if i just step out of shot, you can see the community for yourself coming together. ages , together. people of all ages, they're thousands this they're expecting thousands this afternoon, lining grand avenue, which is where we're standing at the moment. the funeral due to start in the church just behind us, the church of the resurrection at 1:00pm and a procession has already left the side of the church, a procession that involves eight rolls—royces, two limousines, four hearses and hundreds of motorbikes. so i'm sure you'll hear the procession as it nears the church. as we get closer to 1:00pm gathering people, gathering friends, family, the community to remember kyrees and harvey. we've even seen a plane flying overhead with a banner behind it saying r.i.p , kyrees behind it saying r.i.p, kyrees and harvey young kings. now the
12:48 pm
service begins at 1 pm. there are blue ribbons everywhere. in fact, everyone asked to wear blue. that was, of course, the colour the balloons were colour of the balloons that were released candlelit released during that candlelit vigil days after they vigil just a few days after they died. and everyone here wearing blue as well, in memory of the two service will be two boys. the service will be led by reverend jan gould. she's the minister in the church. and this is what she told us earlier i >> -- >> kyiv of lam >> kyiv of riots that followed the death of the two boys. >> you know, there was so much focus on ely and the community were devastated that this was an image presented of ely sort of in the wider world. and it doesn't reflect who we are at all here. and people were really angry and really hurt at that, that this was the image that we were being tarred with . and, you were being tarred with. and, you know, we've had so much bad press in the past, unjustly , and press in the past, unjustly, and we work so hard here to put a different image out . and the different image out. and the riots really undid all of that good work that's been going on
12:49 pm
for so long. so, yeah , so buses for so long. so, yeah, so buses are on diversion. >> the schools have closed early and we should just mention that there is an ongoing iopc police investigation into the two officers who were seen in that van following the boys on the bike in on the day of question. that investigation is ongoing and that is why the police are not have not been involved in the organisation of this funeral. instead, it's been led by cardiff city council. paul thank you very much indeed for that. >> and just to update you that we understand that the two boys are going buried together are going to be buried together in same grave at the western in the same grave at the western cemetery. that's 230 this afternoon. kyrees and harvey, of course, having been friends since they were toddlers. so they are being buried together at 230 after that funeral service. that'll be underway shortly. >> let's return to this breaking news story that's unfolding this lunchtime in wimbledon in what sounds like a terrible incident, a very serious incident. nine people, including seven
12:50 pm
children, hurt when a land rover crashed into a primary school in wimbledon . our gb news home and wimbledon. our gb news home and security mark security editor mark white is following a developing shipments. what's the latest you can tell us? >> well, i think it's probably worth just recapping on what the home secretary suella braverman just said in the last few minutes . she just said in the last few minutes. she said, i'm saddened to hear about the tragic incident at at the school in wimbledon this morning. now no one has spoken yet of fatalities with regard to this incident, but the phraseology of that doesn't sound good, sadly , she doesn't sound good, sadly, she says. my thoughts are with everyone affected . i would like everyone affected. i would like to thank emergency response was at the scene. it's important, she says, that they are now able to carry out their investigation mission and also worth re reiterating again with the metropolitan police say that this is not being treated as a terrorist incident incident that
12:51 pm
the driver stayed at the scene and there have been no arrests , and there have been no arrests, but still a very significant emergency service presence there at the scene. >> and the education secretary, gillian keegan, she has now tweeted, saying, i am deeply concerned by reports of an incident at a primary school in wimbledon this morning. my thoughts are with families, staff and the community involved. i'm hugely grateful for the fast action of the emergency services who are currently at the scene . currently at the scene. >> another ambulance vehicle. the control car just >> another ambulance vehicle. the control carjust moving the control car just moving away. there we're now almost three hours on mark from when they had the original call. three hours on mark from when they had the original call . and they had the original call. and just to explain to people that it is the practise that for the triage and the paramedics they treat at the scene. so a lot of the medical help will be actually given at the scene rather than rushing people away immediately in an ambulance. >> has been a skill >> yeah, this has been a skill set that's honed over many set that's been honed over many years. and sadly , far too many
12:52 pm
years. and sadly, far too many tragedies over the years whereby by they will get the best of medical support to the area if they can. sometimes they fly in on the heli med or they will all arrive there by land, air, ambulances , these medical these ambulances, these medical these doctors effectively flying doctors effectively flying doctors as triage doctors. and they'll be there . we saw it, if they'll be there. we saw it, if you remember , at the time of the you remember, at the time of the death of pc keith palmer at westminster in 2017, when he was stabbed in that terrorist attack , you had those those flying doctors who responded to the scene to try to save this officer's life at the scene, but were unsuccessful. so you're right , mark. were unsuccessful. so you're right, mark. it's all about trying to get that specialist help in the crucial first minutes after someone suffers a very traumatic injury to try to
12:53 pm
give them the best possible support to stay belies them is what they're, in effect, trying to do before they then move them onto hospital , where, of course, onto hospital, where, of course, they get the very best sort of care in the hospital setting . care in the hospital setting. but if you can stabilise the patient before moving them, then , you know, there are chances of survival are just utmost stronger . stronger. >> and what we understand so far is could have happened. none of this is, of course, confirmed. it is what we are seeing from from video , from pictures is from video, from pictures is that this gold coloured land rover car collided with with the exterior wall of what we understand to be the main hall . understand to be the main hall. not too much damage, it looks like from the photographs to the land rover suggest that pupils were outside and when it crashed into the hall, there's photographs of picnic tables that were crushed effectively by
12:54 pm
this 4x4 vehicle. >> yeah, i mean, it's everything really is pointing to the fact that people were outside , that people were outside, whether it was an end of term get together or not, we don't know. but certainly looks from what we could see, as you described there, that table , all described there, that table, all with a white cloth over it. it looked like there was some kind of event taking place at the front of that building when this vehicle careered across the grass and into the building itself. multiple reports now should say that the driver of that vehicle is a woman in who's believed to have suffered a medical episode , but not medical episode, but not confirmed by the police . but confirmed by the police. but that's been reported widely from the scene. >> no large number of police officers still at the scene. we're being told. and clearly one thinks the parents in one thinks of the parents in these circumstances worried these circumstances and worried parents have been turning up all morning. being told once morning. we're being told once they arrive at scene, we're they arrive at the scene, we're being told they're asked to register names details register their names and details with the police officers because
12:55 pm
clearly going have to clearly they're going to have to assess which children were affected by this directly. and given it's the last day of school as well , clearly a large school as well, clearly a large number of kids have been trying to enjoy their last day together at this primary or prep school here in wimbledon. and as we were hearing from stephen hammond, the local mp, it is a very close knit community, despite it being part of south—west london. >> it's right on the edge of wimbledon. common i'm actually familiar with it because i've walked my dogs many times around that common is massive, that area. common is massive, but there's lots of residential roads around. but they are very narrow and that is where the school is situated , right by school is situated, right by this narrow road here that has that 20 mile per hour speed limit, that cordon seems to be pushed further and further out onto the common and people are being urged to stay away from the scene. >> mark, i think these a fire crew coming up here, senior fire officers, as denoted by the white helmets, that their carrying their another one of
12:56 pm
the officers with checkerboard . the officers with checkerboard. type print on on the orange bib that he was wearing as well from the control room. >> so he was so they could be identified quickly at the scene . so it's probably an incident control room. senior officer, these these people here are possibly local residents who are trying to get back, back into their homes . yes. i mean, it's their homes. yes. i mean, it's a residential area. you know, a fairly quiet area, as you described it . there's a local described it. there's a local golf course that's there. the golf course that's there. the golf club that's there right on the edge of wimbledon common. it's also just about a mile away from the all england club where of course, many, many thousands of course, many, many thousands of people have gathered for the wimbledon tournament. of people have gathered for the wimbledon tournament . and wimbledon tournament. and because of that, when the initial reports first came in about a vehicle crashing into a school in wimbledon, clearly there was very understandable concern that this may have been
12:57 pm
some kind of a deliberate act. but the police very quick to suggest just that this was not or is not being treated as a terrorist incident. and the fact that they are seeing the driver stayed at the scene and has not been arrested, would support perhaps these reports . s now perhaps these reports. s now coming out from multiple sources at the scene that it may have been someone who suffered a medical incident. >> now, ambulance crew obviously with the green indicating on medical staff at least. so we do appear to have quite a few personnel leaving the scene now. >> yeah , i mean, he, i think, >> yeah, i mean, he, i think, looks like he could be london ambulance service press officer by ambulance service press officer by the looks of him, he's talking to another member of london ambulance service and green coveralls there as well. there has been no on site press conference but i would imagine at some point, one, conference but i would imagine at some point , one, once the
12:58 pm
at some point, one, once the emergency services just have a time to breathe and be in a position to know exactly what is unfolded here, they will come and speak . and speak. >> the mayor of london, sadiq khan , he has tweeted in the last khan, he has tweeted in the last few moments s saying the incident this morning is absolutely devasted waiting. my heart goes out to everyone affected. i remain in close contact with emergency services. that's very telling, isn't it? mark, the mayor of london, described it as absolutely devastating thing. >> yeah, i mean, it doesn't it doesn't bode well, i'm afraid. i'm afraid when you also take that with the words of the home secretary describing this as a tragic incident . and we have had tragic incident. and we have had no indication options as yet that there have been fatalities. but that ominous description very early on from stephen hammond, the local mp, that a number of the casualties were
12:59 pm
reported to be in a critical condition in again, just clearly leads one to be very concerned and about what might happen and unfold here. >> well this is the scene, our live picture just to confirm the details. we know so far from the police and ambulance service, seven children, two adults hurt after this land rover crashed into the prep school here in wimbledon. and suggestions from stephen hammond , the local mp, stephen hammond, the local mp, that many of those who've been hurt are in a critical condition. we'll update you on that. as you can see, many that. but as you can see, many of the emergency vehicles now starting to leave the scene . starting to leave the scene. we'll keep you updated that. we'll keep you updated on that. but let's get but it's 1:00. let's get an update but it's1:00. let's get an update the latest update now on the latest headunes update now on the latest headlines rhiannon . headlines with rhiannon. >> mark, thank you very much. good afternoon. it's just gone 1:00. your top stories from the newsroom . nine people, including

collided with the school's main hall quite a modern looking building. >> it was driving down the narrow road . that we understand narrow road. that we understand is what you're looking at here. the land rover collided with this building. it is being suggested that these as young children were outside enjoying perhaps a tea party on that last day of term . day of term. >> yeah, we're not sure exactly what the event was, but it's certainly looks from the images that we've seen that there was some kind of an outdoor event that was taking place there. some tables had been set up, white tablecloth over one of the tables , and that's likely , i tables, and that's likely, i think, now from what we're seeing , that that's why people seeing, that that's why people were struck as this vehicle all careered towards the building itself. now it's being reported from multiple sources as at the scene now that the driver was a
1:09 pm
female, that may have suffered a medical episode. soledar with people that can suffer a medical episode sometimes , you know, episode sometimes, you know, they go into spasm, their foot can go onto the accelerator . can go onto the accelerator. anything like that can happen. they just lose control of a vehicle . an indication i think , vehicle. an indication i think, that there have been no arrests would certainly back up that possible theory that it may have been an accident brought on by a medical episode. but until we actually hear from the police and it may even be when they actually come to the cameras and decide to chat and give us an indication of what has happened , that they're not in a position to say that as yet either . they to say that as yet either. they have been quick, though, to rule out any deliberate act taking place here, which was , of place here, which was, of course, the initial concern when the reports came through. first of all, because we are only about a mile away or so from the wimbledon tournament at the all
1:10 pm
england club. >> and this school is split into two parts. there's two buildings. one is more in the centre of the village . the other centre of the village. the other building is on the edge of wimbledon. common the headteacher did describes it on their website as warm , their website as warm, welcoming, vibrant and imaginative. it's been in wimbledon since . the 1893, wimbledon since. the 1893, a very be well known school in the area. >> and the building we now know , as mike was pointing out, is a building that that housed pupils from age range . four till to from age range. four till to eight. whether they were just four and eight year olds, 4 to 8 year olds that were outside , or year olds that were outside, or whether some of the older pupils were there, we don't know. certainly some adults there because they are amongst the injured. i'm just hearing from my producer saying that several adults have just left the school
1:11 pm
quite what that means, i don't know because we don't know if they are staff at the school or indeed potentially parents or other family members. >> another ambulance control vehicle here, mark, just coming through the police cordon , which through the police cordon, which is still in place . just to is still in place. just to explain to you, if you're joining us, this is the end of camp road, the access to the school down the end there. a lot of still here at the of police still here at the scene despite some of the ambulance and emergency crews moving off. and we're being told that the police are still meeting parents coming up, anxious parents as the news comes through to actually get details of their children. will a young stroller there with or is it? no, it's a golf cart, actually, because i think the golf club is actually nearby, just right to next the school market indications, actually, some the reports that the some of the reports that the driver may have been driver may actually have been driving course driving from the golf course when this medical incident took place and some children there , place and some children there, they might be children from from they might be children from from the school. they might be children from from
1:12 pm
the schcthis cordon, i mean, >> and this cordon, i mean, people in the area, i've been contacted by somebody who is in the area and says they they cannot get anywhere near because that is so huge now. and that cordon is so huge now. and they said they have never seen anything like the number of emergency response vehicles at the scene. >> yeah, i mean, this is still a very active scene, although . so very active scene, although. so the to the initial response to casualties on the ground has , casualties on the ground has, for the most part, if not completely end . did we still completely end. did we still have a significant emergency service presence there? again from my producer saying a large police cordon is still in place, stretching onto wimbledon, common where officers are moving dog walkers and passers by away from the scene. now, apparently an air ambulance is still on the edge of the common and a number of ambulances have parked nearby , although just in the few minutes since that's been sent, we've been seeing more of these
1:13 pm
ambulance vehicles moving away. there was a paramedic fast response car that we saw go through shot. first of all, these are often the first on scene fast response car. it you know, it is what it says on the tin they will shoot ahead of the main ambulance sometimes to get there in a critical incident to give that life saving care while they wait for the often slower ambulance to get to the scene. and indeed, from what we've seen in some of the aerial shots suggests that a lot of the medical aid well, as you medical aid was well, as you said, triage centre set up said, a triage centre set up outside school outside the main school building, but also saint george's tooting would be the nearest emergency centre , which nearest emergency centre, which would have been put on alert pretty quickly after i think it was 954 when the first call came out this morning . yeah, because out this morning. yeah, because we've had the air ambulance or air ambulances there. it may be that some of the other hospitals further away from saint george's may have been called into action
1:14 pm
as well. when you've got multiple injuries and we're talking nine people injured, you're not going to send all of those casualties to the one hospital, especially if you're talking about major traumatic injuries, because that requires very significant resources just around a single patient agent. so if you've got more than 2 or 3 patients, then you are very significantly stretching that trauma unit's emergency response. so that's why you'll often see various a number of trauma centres being used when you're talking about that multiple casualties and we haven't had any confirmation on about the condition on of the injured, the seven children and to adults. >> but in the last few minutes the mayor of london has described the incident as absolutely devastate urging the home secretary suella braverman, has said she is saddened by the tragic incident . what can we
1:15 pm
tragic incident. what can we read anything into that? >> well, the language would certainly seem to indicate that perhaps there may be fatalities involved, but we should stress that there has been no indication of fatalities as yet from the police or the ambulance service. the ambulance service wouldn't really tweet that out at this stage. it would be the police. but again, you're deaung police. but again, you're dealing with families who might need to be informed . and so need to be informed. and so you're not necessarily going to put out that kind of information in the early stages . put out that kind of information in the early stages. i put out that kind of information in the early stages . i should in the early stages. i should also say that now, again , also say that now, again, multiple local reports suggest ing that the children were out on the grass having a tea party so that it was a tea party that the children were taking part in. yeah the kind of end of term tea parties that you see in schools right across the country. >> and certainly we've seen some of the aerial shots showing sort
1:16 pm
of the aerial shots showing sort of trestle tables or tables outside the wilberforce house building used by these reception to year three children with a large wide area of grass. and it appears that the land rover has gone through some fence or some shrubbery and gone straight across the grass and then ended up wedged against the side of the school building . so, yeah, ho. 110. >> no. >> a number of local residents have been telling report ears at the scene that they understand that the driver of the vehicle was a woman that suffered a medical episode and that that driver had been leaving this golf club, which is just opposite the school at the time that this incident happened . and that this incident happened. and again, no independent confirmation even from the police . we might not get that police. we might not get that kind of information even officially from them for a while. but these are these are reporters on the scene now to talking the local residents and members of that golf club.
1:17 pm
>> now, we can see a lot of police still at the scene. give us an indication about what they'll be trying to garner now, mark, terms of getting the mark, in terms of getting the details, because as we details, because clearly, as we understand, are still understand, parents are still been up. they've been been turning up. they've been giving names details giving their names and details to well . there's to the police as well. there's going to have to be a lot of this going through to actually establish what children were there and whether, in fact , there and whether, in fact, their parents have been informed. >> yeah, well, i mean, the police will in very significant numbers other emergency numbers like the other emergency services , descend on the scene services, descend on the scene with a view in the first instance to helping manage the scene potentially dealing with any of the casualty his as well. if you've got multiple casualties and it's quite a while before for proper medical support and firefighters and the like can get on the scene, many of these officers will every officer has a basic level of first aid training. some officers, like armed officers , officers, like armed officers, have trauma training . so have trauma training. so a higher degree of training and
1:18 pm
can be very useful. they carry med kits with them and are like. so after that first response, what we then get is the significant securing of the scene, which is a police cordon , and that's often widened from that cordon. there may have been further back towards the school initially. it's there at the moment as they get more officers on the scene, they'll actually maybe potentially move it even further back to give a proper sterile environment for what is taking place in there now, which is the liaising with members of the family who are families who are coming and being told potentially very devastating news. all ipso they are taking statements from from multiple people. the woman behind the wheel, if it was indeed a woman behind the wheel, if they're in a condition to give any kind of statement, other people involved and or witnesses and even though there are no arrests, still investigating or accident
1:19 pm
investigators is coming through to actually establish details of where the vehicle is and all those things that have to be recorded and so on. yes, this will be managed by senior traffic officers as a traffic incident. the fact is it's not been described as any kind of security incident by the police. so it it is a vehicle crash. so it's sort of specialist traffic officers. who are you know, very experienced at being able to measure the just when the vehicle perhaps accelerated where the vehicle crossed the road, where the vehicle struck a fence, all of these measurements that need to take place to determine what speed the vehicle was going when it collided with the people that were injured, what speed it was going when it collided with the school. there will also be, i'm sure, looking for the likes of cctv images. you know, maybe from the school building, from the golf club or
1:20 pm
any street around there as well. that might help them with the ongoing investigation . but we're ongoing investigation. but we're kind of moving away from the initial response to a lviv mass casualty event to what is now a slow paced, longer the investigation into what's going on as well as of course, dealing with those families. >> indeed. mark, thank you for that. this police cordon tape there you can see, are still in place. let's just update you with details. we know so far with the details. we know so far that this is the scene, camp road , the study prep school in road, the study prep school in wimbledon, just before 10:00 this morning, a land rover crashing through into the school ground as at least nine people. it's been described as being injured, seven of them children. reports from stephen ham, the local mp, that those may be critically injured as well. we'll as we get the we'll update you as we get the very latest gb news. very latest here on gb news. stay with

1:25 pm
confirmed, yeah, under the rules of the supreme court home office lawyers needed to actually first ask the court of appeal for permission to challenge this ruling . ruling. >> but the government is given the go ahead to bring the appeal. lawyers both sides the go ahead to bring the appeal.appear's both sides the go ahead to bring the appeal.appear before )th sides the go ahead to bring the appeal.appear before up sides the go ahead to bring the appeal.appear before up to ies the go ahead to bring the appeal.appear before up to five now to appear before up to five justices at this court, which will be held in westminster , and will be held in westminster, and their further decision will follow in writing. but rishi sunak, of course , previously sunak, of course, previously saying that he denied there was any plan b if the supreme court did not overturn this ruling to block the forceful removal of asylum seekers to kigali. also previously refusing to guarantee the first flight to rwanda would take off by the end of the year amid this ongoing legal battle. but certainly the wheels, it seems now, are officially in motion . motion. >> gb news has launched a new campaign this week called don't kill cash. millions of britons still rely on cash each day, but strong vested interests are pushing for it to be permanently replaced by debit and credit

deputy chief whip, chris pincher, no less . pincher, no less. >> the watchdog found that the ex—tory mp did drunkenly grope two men at london's carlton club last summer, with the reports saying that his actions showed an abuse of power. >> well, his suspension, the latest headache, of course, for the prime minister. the government facing the prospect of at least 5—5 tests at the ballot box before any general election. let's get more with our political reporter olivia utley , joining us from utley, joining us from westminster . and olivia, just westminster. and olivia, just looking at what the committee said on this especially grave and abuse of power and deeply inappropriate, i mean, bearing inappropriate, i mean, bearing in mind his seniority, if you like, as a former deputy chief whip . whip. >> well, absolutely . >> well, absolutely. >> well, absolutely. >> and one of the many problems for rishi sunak is that this bfings for rishi sunak is that this brings to mind it reminds everyone in westminster of boris johnson's behaviour last year when the crispin archer story emerged, it was pretty clear that boris johnson as prime minister knew what chris pincher had been up to. >> pretty much everyone in
1:38 pm
westminster had heard rumours of chris pincher getting too drunk at occasions and groped young men in parliament. but boris johnson ignored those rumours and ended up promoting chris pincher to the position of a whip. now the position of a whip is supposed to have some sort of pastoral care or responsibility over other mps. so to put them in that position in particular seems very misguided indeed. and of course it was that really which precipitated covid boris johnson's downfall. that was the sort of straw that broke the camel's back. his handling of the chris pincher fiasco really was what caused all of those ministers to resign and ended up in the former prime minister's resignation. now, of course, because chris pincher has already resigned, the conservative party whip, it's not thought that rishi sunak will face much sort of will face too much sort of political out for the political heat out for the findings of this report. he was one of ministers who stood one of the ministers who stood down boris johnson cabinet down from boris johnson cabinet as a of this. but what it as a result of this. but what it does that sunak is does mean is that rishi sunak is almost yet
1:39 pm
almost certainly facing yet another by—election. there are three by elections later this month for conservative mps who've either resigned in the case of boris johnson , nigel case of boris johnson, nigel adams been suspended in the adams or been suspended in the case of david warburton . we then case of david warburton. we then also expecting a another by—election when nadine dorries stands down, she's indicated that she will stand down before the election but is just picking her moment to do it. and now there'll fifth by—election there'll be a fifth by—election for chris pincher. now normally that pincher by—election wouldn't pose too much of a problem for the conservatives because he has a majority of 19,000. a really big 19,000. that's a really big majority . but of while majority. but of course while the conservatives are trailing so far behind in the polls, even majorities of 19,000 look a little bit dicey. and add onto it on top of that, that labour will be throwing everything they've got at this by—election. they want it to look as though labour has all the momentum. so expect to see thousands of party activists on tamworth , activists descend on tamworth, that staffordshire constituency and all sorts of shadow ministers going up there in the coming to and it would be
1:40 pm
coming weeks to and it would be a real blow for rishi sunak if he lost this by—election and at the moment it's looking odds on likely that he will and mps now have to endorse this suspension, don't they? >> they have to vote and the liberal democrat nts are calling on the prime minister to confirm that he will vote and he hasn't voted recently, has he. on to on a to very concerning matters. he will personally vote to endorse that suspension on yes it's at this point i think pretty much a formality it seems very very likely indeed that the commons will pass that vote. >> we saw what happened last year johnson whipped year when boris johnson whipped his to vote in favour his party not to vote in favour of owen paterson. so suspension, it was a fiasco and rishi sunak recognised that. so it seems pretty certain that mps on all sides of the house will vote to pass that suspension. and it seems very likely that rishi rishi sunak will vote to pass that suspension too. so that's the first phase. they'll then be, if it passes through the house, which as i say, almost,
1:41 pm
almost certain , then there'll be almost certain, then there'll be almost certain, then there'll be a recall petition which basically in chris basically puts the ball in chris hinch's constituent's court. they will decide whether they want to keep him on as an mp. if only 10% of them sign a petition saying that they have no confidence him, then it will confidence in him, then it will go this by—election which is, go to this by—election which is, as i say, a real headache for the prime minister. yeah although obviously, as we're saying, obviously declared saying, he's obviously declared he's going to seek he's not going to seek re—election general re—election at the next general election, but in terms of him personally , i mean, he's personally, i mean, he's apologised again profusely , i apologised again profusely, i think is what he said. >> but adding that he's had >> but but adding that he's had to seek professional medical help, which is ongoing. so there's a personal cost to all this as well there absolutely is. >> and that's one of the elements which boris johnson has been accused of, not picking up on.chfis been accused of, not picking up on. chris pincher was rumoured for months and months and in fact, even years in westminster to often get far too drunk at very public occasions and behave very public occasions and behave very inappropriately towards much younger members of staff.
1:42 pm
it was being said in the corridors of westminster that chris pincher, you know, needed help, needed some sort of therapy, and instead of sort of guiding him towards that , boris guiding him towards that, boris johnson promoted him to johnson actually promoted him to this pastoral position of a whip. so it's a horrible sort of situation for every one involved. obviously, most important shaun bailey chris, pinchers victims who have talked about feeling, feeling traumatised by his behaviour , traumatised by his behaviour, but also for chris pincher himself , it but also for chris pincher himself, it can't be a very nice couple of weeks . couple of weeks. >> olivia in westminster, thank you very much indeed for updating us with that, sir keir starmers speech outlining his plans for education was interrupted by protesters earlier. yes, one of them a student. no less. the labour leader, saying that children should be taught how to express themselves , pledging to improve themselves, pledging to improve speaking skills . and it seems speaking skills. and it seems perhaps those activists agreed. they used their voices pretty loudly to call for a green new deal loudly to call for a green new deal. this is how it all unfolded . unfolded. >> reinstate your pledge for 28

schools have these oratory skills and all the rest of it. he wants to put more money into primary schools , state primaries primary schools, state primaries and tax the private schools as well. but all of that got rather overshadowed by two individuals who broke free from the throng of young people. the labour leader had surrounded himself with for this speech to unfurl a banner that said starmer, stop making u—turns and demanded he commit to a green new deal. it was referencing the ambiguity over labour's pledge to borrow £28 billion a year to invest in the green economy, something that very recently the shadow chancellor , rachel reeves, has chancellor, rachel reeves, has said she wouldn't do from day one.the said she wouldn't do from day one. the first few years of a labour administration would not borrow that full £28 billion a yean borrow that full £28 billion a year, although that hasn't stopped the conservative party attacking the labour party for saying that by the end of the parliament they'd be borrowing an extra £28 billion a year. but the nuance of that discussion was rather lost when those two

individuals stepped forward, unfurled their banner, and for a very long time had this back and forth with sir keir starmer. it was about a full minute before the secured motty of the building stepped forward and frogmarched the two activists out. it made for quite a tense moment as sir keir starmer was standing there, sort of not really knowing how to dismiss these two individuals who had highlighted his recent u—turns . highlighted his recent u—turns. >> he had to play it carefully, though, didn't he? tom because what he was saying was all about confidence speaking and being able to speak fluently . so if able to speak fluently. so if he'd have shut them up straight away, he would ended up away, he would have ended up looking bit numpty, looking like a bit of a numpty, wouldn't he ? wouldn't he? >> well , wouldn't he? >> well, perhaps, although one might one might say that those two individuals did take a little second to get confident. they i was sitting in the third row of that speech and i could see some sort of shuffling and wondered was going wondered quite what was going on.and wondered quite what was going on. and it took a good few seconds for them to step
1:46 pm
forward, get organised, have that actually unfurl that banner actually unfurl before they started to interrupt it. the labour party leader , no it. the labour party leader, no doubt it was quite a nerve wracking thing for these two young people to do. but yes, they really get into the they really did get into the spirit it and sir keir spirit of it and sir keir starmer didn't at the start of it, know how to respond . it, quite know how to respond. he have quite a good line by he did have quite a good line by the of it, referring of the end of it, referring to, of course, his mission. the course, his other mission. the reason we're here medway reason why we're here in medway today isn't just because the labour party won this council back in the local elections in may. it's because this is a series of speeches the labour party leader is giving around the country. this is speech number five on mission number five, which is about opportunity , motty and education. but last month he gave a very similar speech about the green economy and green investment. and so that's what he was saying to those two protesting interrupters that actually you're at the wrong speech . you you're at the wrong speech. you should have come and spoken to me a month ago when he was talking about what he would do to invest in green energy.
1:47 pm
that's that's the third of his five missions. they're not quite as catchy perhaps as the prime minister's. we don't have we don't hear sir keir starmer rolling them off the tongue again and again at every single opportunity he has. but those five missions are about economic growth, crime , the nhs, green growth, crime, the nhs, green energy. and indeed, as we heard today, education i may be an additional sixth stop. >> the students who knows tom for the moment, down in gillingham and kent, thanks very much. and of course, we'll continue to see the continue to see what the reaction that speech. reaction is to that speech. thank reaction is to that speech. tha now the mystery gets ever >> now the mystery gets ever deeper because the man who led a short rebellion against short lived rebellion against russian president vladimir putin has he returned to has reported he returned to russia. yes because the president of belarus, alexander lukashenko, claimed that the leader of the wagner group, yevgeny prigozhin, has been moving freely in russia. >> as he said, despite the deal to relocate with his fighters in belarus. indeed, his palace and offices in saint petersburg raided by russian police , they
1:48 pm
raided by russian police, they found assault weapons , found assault weapons, ammunition, gold bars, several wigs and a stuffed alligator. well, what else do you keep in your own pad? of course. >> joining us now to discuss this is russian journalist alexei vera baird, who is live from moscow. alexei thanks for joining us on gb news this afternoon. what can you tell us about where on earth wagner is and actually , more importantly, and actually, more importantly, what did he need all those wigs for? >> hello . well, i didn't know >> hello. well, i didn't know because maybe because he's bald to begin with. but second, obviously to conceal his true identity . nobody really knows identity. nobody really knows where the head of the wagner group, mr prigozhin, is right now. one thing we know for sure for the belarusian president, alexander lukashenko, today, he said that mr prigozhin is not in belarus and we remember the deal brokered by the belarussian president. according to the deal , mr prigozhin leave to , mr prigozhin had to leave to belarus and the criminal
1:49 pm
prosecutor action was dropped against him and his soldiers. but well , now, apparently he's but well, now, apparently he's running at large here in russia, in saint petersburg in particular, which is his home city, actually, according to some unofficial sources, i received information that mr prigozhin was actually given the 1st of july as the deadline to finalise all his affairs in russia and then leave to belarus . but what's actually going to happen now since well, from what it looks like, he is not going anywhere. he's staying in russia. >> yes, of course. that that deadune >> yes, of course. that that deadline being to actually surrender effectively the wagner mercenaries to the russian state is effectively and have them within the official army. but just turning to where he may be, i mean, i think lukashenko said he may even have gone to saint petersburg, which would be quite interesting because, of course, that's putin's power base. and one wonders in terms of the pictures we've seen whether the russian security forces have russian security forces may have planted wigs in this planted the wigs in this particular sort of flat to actually try and perhaps undermine his position .
1:50 pm
undermine his position. >> i don't know. i think the wigs are his. another interesting example from russian history, when alexander kerensky had to flee from saint petersburg dressed as a woman, when the bolsheviks . oh, we lost when the bolsheviks. oh, we lost alexi , can you hear us okay? alexi, can you hear us okay? >> i think we've lost the link, which is suspicious in itself with moscow . just as we were with moscow. just as we were talking about the wigs were a good look at those, didn't we? >> can we get those pictures ' 7 in. again? >> and just enjoy mr bogosian as one might see him on the streets today of saint petersburg or moscow . have you seen a man who moscow. have you seen a man who looks like wait for it this or or even looks like this ? i don't or even looks like this? i don't think he's going to get very far, wouldn't he? >> walking around like that anyway , apologies for leaving. anyway, apologies for leaving. >> losing our link with moscow, but we'll stay on the on the trail of mr bogosian and see

where he is and what's more importantly, what he might be doing as well. now now to the king and queen, because they are continuing their scottish royal tour today by visiting the great tapestry of scotland. >> ten years since it was complete . complete. >> and well, the country marking, of course, the king and queen's coronation yesterday with that procession that with that procession and that ceremony of thanksgiving and dedication at saint giles cathedral in edinburgh. and there is the king, of course , there is the king, of course, with that crown. and of course, we had the elizabeth sword as well, which was featured that brand new sword because the sword of scotland, we were told, is was too just frail to be moved up edinburgh . this moved back up to edinburgh. this wonderful inside wonderful occasion there inside the cathedral. but the focus turning now to selkirk and our scotland reporter tony mcguire is there. and tony, it's not just about the tapestry , but just about the tapestry, but it's about, as we can see behind you, tartan today . you, tartan today. >> yes, that's right. good afternoon, mark. and it's very much about tartan . and, you
1:52 pm
much about tartan. and, you know, we've seen king charles and his last few visits to scotland on a variety of tartan. the stuarts, the hunting stuart is one of certainly his favourites . and of course, the favourites. and of course, the james edward's stuart tartan as well , which james edward's stuart tartan as well, which he wore up in scotland around the time of his late mother's funeral. so he is he is very bonnie about wearing a kilt. and once he crosses by carlisle and certainly here today where he spent about 45 minutes at lochcarron of scotland in selkirk and he went around meeting the staff and he got a tour of the facility and i believe speaking to the staff that he got to answer, ask quite a lot of questions as well about the production line. and it's quite an old singing of dancing facility here in the borders . facility here in the borders. today was one of about three different engagements that he had in the borders. different engagements that he had in the borders . the first had in the borders. the first one, as you mentioned there, being the tapestry motty the second he arrived here and he

waved along with the queen to the crowds, much smaller gathering here in selkirk than he saw yesterday out of his car window. but certainly he you know, he appreciates crowds of all sizes, big and small. and then he is on his way. i believe he's up there now. he's opening a market up in selkirk along the square , and he's taking part in square, and he's taking part in the traditional casting of the colours dance where he's going to be seeing the local community come together . and this quite come together. and this quite a tradition for this part of scotland . so quite nice to see scotland. so quite nice to see him after the all the bluster of edinburgh and the capital chicanery over the last few days from to come down and weave his way through the scottish borders to see some of the smaller communities and certainly see the love for the royal family here is anything but less than up the north. the protesters, not a yellow banner to be seen. >> i gather it was somewhat

amusing, actually. >> obviously , there was some >> obviously, there was some police here this morning making sure that the way was clear and about two minutes before the king's cavalcade arrived, there was a yellow pickup truck started making its way down the road of which you can see about my 11:00 here. thankfully it was just for one of the many lumber yards that line the road along here. but i think the police here. but i think the police here had a very loud, audible sigh of relief that that wasn't something more . something more. >> okay, tony, thank you very much indeed for updating us there in selkirk . and we'll there in selkirk. and we'll bfing there in selkirk. and we'll bring you the pictures, of course, as we get more from that royal tour in scotland. thank you. >> stay em- gm us here % us here on the live >> stay with us here on the live desk on gb news, where we will be bringing you very latest be bringing you the very latest from wimbledon, where a car this morning crashed into a primary school. we understand that seven children and two adults were

confirmation from the met police acas. seven children have been injured , along with two adults injured, along with two adults and of course the local mp indicating that he understood that several of those had critical injuries as he described them. yeah >> s indeed. so there will be multiple area casualty units that these injured people will have been taken to because when you're dealing with nine people, no casualty unit, if they're, if they're seriously injured, as we're told, the you know, some have been seriously or critically injured, you would probably split them up between different area casualty units. if there's others that are nearby. and you can get to easily enough in large number of police . police. >> now, mark, just to update people who might be listening on radio that arrived walking down this road towards the school camp road here in wimbledon. i
2:08 pm
think we understand that there may be a statement, a press statement or a news conference, 3:00, two updates. we may have more information on the situation with those injured . situation with those injured. >> yeah, we've been waiting, of course , for the emergency course, for the emergency services to give us an indication of what exactly unfolded here and what the casualty toll is . casualty toll is. understandably, they've got to deal with what is in front of them to begin with and, of course, get an update from the hospital on the condition on conditions of those that are being sent to multiple hospitals. what you're seeing with those additional officers being brought in now is really just to bolster the investigation side of this incident. the immediate response to what was a mass casualty event with nine people, at least injured in this incident is oven injured in this incident is over. as such, we understand . over. as such, we understand. and but you've still got lots of
2:09 pm
witnesses , statements to be witnesses, statements to be taken . the specialist officers taken. the specialist officers from the metropolitan police traffic department who are best placed to determine just how this accident unfolded will be there. they'll be trawling through local cctv pictures . and through local cctv pictures. and of course, there's the relatives, the family members of those caught up in this, particularly that will have to be interviewed , cared for if be interviewed, cared for if they've been given very bad news. of course , as well. so news. of course, as well. so that's why you're seeing lots of officers in. so it's now still a very active scene. but a different kind of activity , not different kind of activity, not the dealing with casualties , but the dealing with casualties, but the dealing with casualties, but the investigation and for people that are just joining us, we just want to recap on what we understood to have happened. >> we are expecting that police statement in about 50 minutes time. but what appears to have happenedis time. but what appears to have happened is that a land rover crashed into a school building. this girls prep school. the
2:10 pm
study preparatory school, it's on the edge of wimbledon, common in south—west london, just a mile from where the tennis championships have taken place . championships have taken place. it crashed into that building . it crashed into that building. we understand that there were little girls outside and possibly what was a tea party on the last day of term. it happened just before 10:00 this morning. >> yes. well reporters have been speaking to lots of individuals on the ground, local people there . and that is certainly there. and that is certainly what they have been reporting , what they have been reporting, that there was this tea party taking place to mark that last day of term with quite a few people out there in that grassy area when this vehicle seems, for whatever reason , to have for whatever reason, to have careered off the road over the grass and into the school building , again, local people in building, again, local people in the area have been telling reporters that they believe that the driver of the land rover was a female or that she seems to
2:11 pm
have suffered some kind of medical episode . but again, medical episode. but again, perhaps when we get this press statement at 3:00 from the metropolitan police , they'll be metropolitan police, they'll be able to shed some more light on that. certainly of course, they'll be able to confirm what they've been telling us from quite early on, which is that this is not yet a security issue in terms of not being a deliberate act . no one has been deliberate act. no one has been arrested , as far as we know. deliberate act. no one has been arrested , as far as we know . and arrested, as far as we know. and of course, the question that many people want to know, of course, is just how these people that were injured are, whether they are being treated and treated successfully or , sadly, treated successfully or, sadly, whether some of those may have succumbed to their injuries. >> we just shot there, but we can we hope to join our can join we hope to join our reporter lisa hartle , who is in reporter lisa hartle, who is in wimbledon . just picking up on wimbledon. just picking up on what we were talking about, the mayor of london. he's described the incident as absolutely devastating. the home secretary
2:12 pm
has said she's saddened by the tragic incident. >> let's actually just bring in lisa. she's actually at the scene to update us on what's happening there, lisa, happening there, because, lisa, clearly we've is clearly from what we've seen is still a very large police presence there . presence down there. >> yeah, well, a lot of emergency vehicles have left. >> they were lining all around the common. i'd say wherever i look now, i can still see police vehicles. >> there's a high police presence . presence. >> presence. >> and if you can just see behind me, two of the roads there have both got police cordons place . cordons in place. >> and lady actually was who >> and a lady actually was who said she lived down there. she tried and was told tried to go down and was told that couldn't at this time. that she couldn't at this time. so and as we've been here, more and more police vehicles have been leaving. but you said, been leaving. but as you said, there's still police there's still a high police presence and also some of the reporters i was to talking said that saw some that they saw some of the children earlier in a children leaving earlier in a distressed state, one with no shoes on. a lot of the children are believed to have left the school. now at one point, there was 24 emergency vehicles here.
2:13 pm
but as you were just saying, the investigation is now carrying on. >> on. >> it's clearly worried parents coming up to them to ask what's happening . i understand they've happening. i understand they've been taking their details in terms of names and addresses and so on to try and get a picture about which children were at at the time . yeah the school at the time. yeah there's also some local people that came up to me and they weren't aware of what was happening. >> so and obviously when you explain what's happened , they explain what's happened, they were distressed and they couldn't believe that this had happened, especially as this is a quiet area. there's a 20 a very quiet area. there's a 20 mile an hour zone around here. but don't if can tell but i don't know if you can tell from probably pictures from well, probably the pictures have but have already been playing, but it's road. and as it's a very narrow road. and as i heard, stephen hammond, the local that it's very local mp, said that it's very difficult up speed. it's difficult to pick up speed. it's the road where you'd the kind of road where you'd have over to another have to pull over to let another vehicle it's very vehicle go. so it's very surprising. say, this vehicle go. so it's very su have 1g. say, this vehicle go. so it's very su have happenediy, this vehicle go. so it's very su have happened .', this to have happened. >> yeah. and the school is very well known in the area , isn't well known in the area, isn't it? and i know people who live there who've had children, who've gone to the school, who
2:14 pm
describe wimbledon as as being like a little village in london. so this community is going to be absolutely shaken by what has happened today. >> yeah , exactly. that's why >> yeah, exactly. that's why some of the people walking along here, they didn't want to talk on camera, but they were just saying it was it was shocking. and obviously distressing, especially with such with children so young at children involved so young at the school takes children from four years old up 11 de—man. four years old up to 11 de—man. so it's definitely a very tragic day for local people around here. >> and we do understand this was the last day of term. so clearly they had these special events maybe outside going on. and the area of the school where the car hit, this was for the younger children, what, 4 to 8 years . old >> yeah, that's again , the local >> yeah, that's again, the local mp, stephen hammond . he said mp, stephen hammond. he said obviously his daughter , he said, obviously his daughter, he said, went there in past years and yeah , it's for that particular
2:15 pm
yeah, it's for that particular building outside there where it was, where the car collided . was, where the car collided. thatis was, where the car collided. that is the a place where children as young as as 4 to 8 attend. and of course being the last day of term, it's one where children celebrate breaking up for for the the summer holidays. so yeah, it's believed that there was some kind of activity going on outside when the accident happened. >> lisa , thank you very much >> lisa, thank you very much indeed for updating us there with the latest at the scene. as you , the police still you say, the police cordon still in place , but we'll get more in place, but we'll get more details little later. thank details a little later. thank you indeed, mark. you very much indeed, mark. >> just looking at the scene, there is quieter emergency there it is quieter emergency services appear to have left, although there's still a lot of police going on. police activity going on. >> yeah, and a couple of the images is there. we saw that that range rover land rover, i should say, newer model that was impacted that had impacted the side of the building and not a lot of damage to that land rover . it appears the front end of it
2:16 pm
has been somewhat damaged and a little bit of superficial, superficial damage to the front of the building. but actually it doesn't appear to have been a very high speed crash into the building, at least by the looks of it. but clearly , we it must of it. but clearly, we it must have been travelling at some speed, going across the grass in to order have injured those individuals who were on the grass. >> and no official confirmation as yet, but certainly several reports that a woman driver may have suffered some kind of medical incident or a seizure , medical incident or a seizure, something of that nature before that occurred . that occurred. >> and yeah, those are reports that have come from reporters on the scene for a number of publications who've been speaking to local people, one or a few reports suggest that this woman had left the local golf club, which is just opposite the school. whether that's true or not, i don't know . it's

not, i don't know. it's possible. the car was just passing by the golf club, but that certainly some of the reports that the woman had left the golf club suffered a medical episode and the vehicle had lost control and careered onto that grassy area where these young children were celebrating the last day of term as you can see, the ambulances are still there on standby . on standby. >> we've seen a lot of police activity, but just to update you, as we were saying, 3 pm. now, we understand a police statement, an update on the latest. and of course, we'll have that live for you here on gb news. mark, for the moment, thank you very much indeed. more as we of course, the as we get it, of course, the prime rishi sunak, prime minister, rishi sunak, could be facing yet another by—election. >> it could be his fifth after parliament's standards committee recommend an eight week suspension for the former tory deputy chief whip, chris pincher. well the watchdog found that he did and drunkenly grope, as they said , two men at
2:18 pm
as they said, two men at london's carlton club last summer. >> the report saying his action showed an abuse of power. well, he's sincerely apologised once again for his behaviour and also says he's seeking medical help . says he's seeking medical help. >> let's cross to westminster and join our political reporter, olivia utley. olivia it's another bad day for rishi sunak, isn't it? the problems for him just keep mounting up . just keep mounting up. >> absolutely . this is a massive >> absolutely. this is a massive headache for rishi sunak. he is already facing three by elections on the same day on the 20th of july. later this month for boris johnson , nigel adams, for boris johnson, nigel adams, bofis for boris johnson, nigel adams, boris johnson's ally, who resigned, and david warburton , resigned, and david warburton, who was sacked following allegations of drug misuse and sexual misconduct. those by elections . sexual misconduct. those by elections. he's feeling sexual misconduct. those by elections . he's feeling pretty elections. he's feeling pretty nervous about all of them. boris johnson himself only has a majority of 7000. labour is campaigning hard there and it's thought that they might well overturn that slim majority . overturn that slim majority. motty. now it looks very likely indeed that he will also be facing a by—election in
2:19 pm
tamworth. chris pincher his constituency. now there there is a majority of 19,000 for the conservatives which in normal times one would say is very safe indeed. but of course the conservatives have now consistently been trailing. so far behind in the polls that even majorities of that magnitude look are looking a little bit dicey. and of course labour will be throwing everything it's got at this by—election all of their resources, lots and lots of activists . we can expect to see activists. we can expect to see there all sorts of shadow ministers. now it isn't certain yet that there will be a by—election happens is by—election what happens now is the standards have committee have released their report. the house of commons then gets to decide whether to agree to the recommendations put forward in the report. in this case, an eight week suspension . so there eight week suspension. so there are it seems pretty much certain that mps will agree to the report , but then there will be report, but then there will be a recall petition which essentially puts the ball in the constituency of tamworth court. so constituents will get to
2:20 pm
decide whether or not they have faith in chris pincher. if just 10% of them sign that petition, then we can expect a by—election and all of the trouble that that will entail for the prime minister. but let's see what the what the residents of tamworth have to say. >> olivia, thank you. we apologise for interrupting. mark, you have some breaking news for us on this incident in wimbledon. >> yes , statement from the >> yes, statement from the metropolitan police saying we can now confirm that sadly a child has died following an incident where a car collided with a building at a school in wimbledon. detective chief superintendent claire kelland and the local police command tender for the south—west london area said this is tragic news and our thoughts are with the girl's family and friends and everyone in affected. today we remain at the scene and are continuing our investigation into the full circumstances of the incident. now they said we
2:21 pm
can also confirm that the driver of the vehicle , a woman aged in of the vehicle, a woman aged in her 40, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving . and again, dangerous driving. and again, this is just now going to confirm that police were called at 954 in the morning on thursday, the 6th of july, to reports that a car had collided with a building at the study prep , a school in camp road with a building at the study prep, a school in camp road in wimbledon . officers attended , wimbledon. officers attended, along with paramedics from the london ambulance service and the london ambulance service and the london air ambulance as there have been further injuries. and we await an update out from the london ambulance service. the driver of the vehicle all stopped at the scene . we're not stopped at the scene. we're not treating this incident as terror related. so i think the key lines is from that statement which has just come out, is the confirmation that a child
2:22 pm
schoolchild has died following the incident where a car collided with the building and that the driver of the vehicle , that the driver of the vehicle, a woman in her 40, as has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. now, this would explain maybe why there is still a substantial police presence there at the scene. >> this effectively now will become a criminal investigation because of that charge , farage, because of that charge, farage, but also trying to establish the details in terms of the accident investigation element of this, if you like, because clearly the pictures we've seen suggestion that the children were outside the school building enjoying this last day of term . this last day of term. >> yes, it was some tea party apparently that was taking place on the grass outside the front of the school building when this vehicle careered across the grass . and for whatever reason , grass. and for whatever reason, some indications of a medical episode. but given that this
2:23 pm
woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving , that might dangerous driving, that might not be the case. however, with these incidents as well and arrests , it's sometimes just arrests, it's sometimes just part of police process. even though to an outsider, it might seem harsh if it is a medical episode, often it's just the arrest takes place. so that everything that is then said is recorded and that can be used obviously in defence or against an individual in a court of law. >> and we know emergency services are highly trained to deal with all manner of incidents, but this will have been very traumatic for them. and we have an update from london fire brigade who say that fire staff will be offered counselling as a priority from what they had to deal with at just before 10:00 this morning. >> well , just before 10:00 this morning. >> well, understandably, i think it's always the case. now, the ambulance service and the police will be offered likewise ,
2:24 pm
will be offered likewise, whenever you're dealing with a traumatic case of multiple casualties, it you know, it's an ordeal. even if you're a trained member of the emergency services and used to these incidents as a first responder. but when you're deaung first responder. but when you're dealing with very young and vulnerable people , well, then of vulnerable people, well, then of course, it can have a very real impact. >> i gather. i mean, we've now got six children, two adults also hurt. i mean, several believed to in serious or believed to be in serious or critical condition was what we were and were hearing earlier and confirmation that george confirmation that saint george is at tooting, which is about four miles away, has been treating them. and clearly , treating them. and clearly, obviously, their medical teams would have been on standby. but we did see an awful lot of evidence of triage treatment, emergency treatment actually going on at the scene at the school itself. >> yeah , there were sort of >> yeah, there were sort of yellow tarpaulin that was on the ground basically outside the front of the school. that's an
2:25 pm
area where patients are laid down on. so it's a bit sterile and they can be worked on by the emergency services . it's emergency services. it's interesting the wording of the statement talks about died following rather than n that might be an indication that the person the child died later or certainly in the moments after the accident. we don't really know. we might get a bit more detail of detective chief superintendent claire kelland , superintendent claire kelland, who's the officer that i think is in charge of the case at the moment and may well be speaking, i think, at 3:00. yeah, 3:00. >> we've got confirmation they're going to update their statement. mean , let's statement. but i mean, let's reflect you're saying about home secretary and secretary suella braverman and what saying earlier, what she was saying earlier, that saddened by the that she was saddened by the incident. thoughts are incident. my thoughts are with everyone i'd to everyone affected. i'd like to thank emergency responders thank the emergency responders at important at the scene. it's important they're carry they're now able to carry out their but from they're now able to carry out theilanguage but from they're now able to carry out theilanguage being but from they're now able to carry out theilanguage being used rom they're now able to carry out theilanguage being used and the language being used and sidique khan, indications they knew clearly how serious the
2:26 pm
incident was. i think so. >> it was it was clear , even >> it was it was clear, even though, you know, we didn't know. we didn't have official confirmation. but when you start talking about tragic incidents, it seems to have sort of moved it seems to have sort of moved it on a bit from injuries. but now we are talking about at a bereaved family , a child , a very bereaved family, a child, a very young child who was on their last day of school looking forward to the summer holidays and this morning, their family has had to be told that they have died. >> what an awful , awful day for >> what an awful, awful day for this family . this family. >> yes. and the detective in charge said , you know, that in charge said, you know, that in her statement , in charge said, you know, that in her statement, in a brief statement, she said this is tragic news. and our thoughts are with the girl's family and her friends and everyone affected today. that whole school will be affected, of course, by what has happened because well, at the moment, one girl has died. but others have
2:27 pm
been injured and many more will have been on the grass outside and the front of the school and seen this incident incident unfold. so you know, they will have been really right up close of what happened there. and it's just clearly going to be a very traumatic moving event for them , which they'll have to process early just to reflect if you're watching, these are not live pictures , but clearly a lot of pictures, but clearly a lot of ambulances were leaving earlier . and obviously, in terms of sadiq khan, the mayor of london, the home secretary shadow home secretary yvette cooper, indicating how thankful and grateful they were to the emergency services with what's been a huge reaction, a huge operation here. yeah, i mean, it was because it happened, of course, just a mile away from the all england club in wimbledon. anyway there were a lot of resources is in that area
2:28 pm
. but also the first thing that comes to the mind of us, and i'm sure the emergency services when they get an incident like this is could this be a deliberate act and if it's a deliberate act, it's a magnitude much higher in terms of the response that you'll get from the emergency services . and that's emergency services. and that's why we saw a very significant response . and, of course, it response. and, of course, it became clear as the first officers arrived on scene that you're not just dealing with one injured individual . they were injured individual. they were deaung injured individual. they were dealing with nine and lots of other traumatised and frightened children as well at the scene . children as well at the scene. so it was a big event they were deaung so it was a big event they were dealing with and that's why you saw now a big response in terms of the paramedic vehicles , the of the paramedic vehicles, the hazardous response vehicles, the rapid response vehicles , of rapid response vehicles, of course the air ambulance,
2:29 pm
because what they do now in these incidents as well is they will put senior medical staff on the scene. they won't just wait for casualties to arrive in hospital. they will get them to the scene as quickly as possible to try to stabilise patients before they then moved on to the area trauma centres to give them the best possible chance of surviving. >> mark, thank you very much indeed. so let's just reiterate , as mark was saying, 3:00, we're expecting an update, more details. but confirmation now from the metropol police. one girl has died , a woman in her girl has died, a woman in her 40s arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after that land rover crashed into the prep school building in wimbledon. let's get an update . yeah, from the news an update. yeah, from the news desk now, the headlines with rhiannon . rhiannon. >> thank you, mark. yes, it's
2:30 pm
just gone 230 or top stories from the gb news room . as we've from the gb news room. as we've been hearing, a girl has died after a land rover crashed into after a land rover crashed into a primary school in wimbledon . a primary school in wimbledon. police say the driver, a woman in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving . police say dangerous driving. police say eight other people were injured and they await an update from the london ambulance service officer were called just before 10:00 this morning to reports a car had crashed into a building at the study prep school in camp road. police say the driver had stopped at the scene of the crash. local mp stephen hammond says an investigation is now underway . the standards underway. the standards committee has recommended that former government whip chris pincher be suspended for eight weeks. mr pincher is accused of drunkenly assaulting two men at london's carlton club. shadow education secretary bridget phillipson told gb news that the
2:31 pm
suspension could lead to a by—election the government has launched a bid to take its rwanda deportation policy to the supreme court. last week, the court of appeal overturned an earlier high court ruling which found rwanda could be considered a safe third country. it comes as the house of lords dealt a blow to the government, rejecting its illegal migration bill, meaning mps will now consider a series of amendments and four retired police officers involved in the first stephen lawrence murder investigate . lawrence murder investigate. will not face criminal charges as the crown prosecution service says it's satisfied the national crime agency had fully investigated their actions following his murder in 1993. the initial investigation failed to bring anyone to justice. two of stephen's murderers were eventually jailed in 2012. and you can get more on all of those stories by visiting our website, gb news. .com .
2:35 pm
gb news radio . gb news radio. >> welcome back to the live desk here in gb news. let's bring you some more breaking news and that is that the cabinet office has lost legal challenge over lost its legal challenge over the covid 19 inquiry chair's request for boris johnson's unredacted whatsapp messages, notebooks and his diaries. the cabinet office had refused to provide the documents, arguing that the request is so broad that the request is so broad that it's bound to catch a large amount of irrelevant material . amount of irrelevant material. >> lawyers for the cabinet office said the inquiry does not have the legal power to force ministers to release messages and records that it claims cover matters unconnected to the government's handling of covid. but the cabinet office in the last few minutes has lost that legal challenge. let's cross to
2:36 pm
westminster and join our political reporter, olivia utley. olivia, what more can you tell us? >> yeah, this has been quite an interesting and quite a confusing story from the beginning. the cabinet office argued that it didn't want to release the boris johnson's unredacted whatsapps on the grounds that that not there was something embarrassing in there that they wanted to cover it up. although some speculated in westminster might be although some speculated in wescase..ter might be although some speculated in wescase. but might be although some speculated in wescase. but simply might be although some speculated in wescase. but simply because 3e although some speculated in wescase. but simply because if the case. but simply because if the case. but simply because if the inquiry is allowed to access all sorts of messages that boris johnson sent, then it sets a precedent and of course, we're expecting the covid inquiry to go on for a number of months, if not years, years. and over that time, the cabinet office is worried that it will end up accessing material which will put jeopardy the personal put in jeopardy the personal lives ministers, but lives of not just ministers, but civil servants as well. so that was the cabinet office's argument. it said that, no, we don't want to start releasing all of irrelevant material all sorts of irrelevant material to the covid inquiry because there is this worry about privacy. now we thought that
2:37 pm
that argument from the cabinet office probably would be rejected because, of course , the rejected because, of course, the cabinet office signed up to the covid inquiry. the cabinet office agreed to give baroness hallett the chair of that committee, a very, very wide remit , essentially committee, a very, very wide remit, essentially telling her she could have whatever she liked. she could have whatever she uked.so she could have whatever she liked. so it's not a huge surprise here that the government has lost that that case.it government has lost that that case. it is a little bit of a blow for rishi sunak simply because it's been a pretty tough day for him today. he's facing yet another by—election and of course, labour will use this . course, labour will use this. it's sort of fuel to labour's fire that rishi sunak is weak , fire that rishi sunak is weak, is inexperienced and doesn't really know what it's doing in a political sense. of course, it's a bit of a moot point. boris johnson had already handed those unredacted whatsapp messages over directly to the covid inquiry . so it wasn't really it inquiry. so it wasn't really it didn't really matter whether or not cabinet office was not the cabinet office was prepared release them prepared to release them themselves, for just the themselves, but for just the sake rishi sunak sort of sake of rishi sunak sort of integra and the kind of integra motty and the kind of
2:38 pm
message that he's giving out to not just the public, but of course his own mps , it's another course his own mps, it's another big blow . big blow. >> wokeist i mean, two lawyers, hugo kyiv , kc for the inquiry hugo kyiv, kc for the inquiry itself saying the idea that the cabinet office could decide what was relevant would emasculate this and future inquiries and, and obviously baroness hallett said it's up to her to decide what's actually relevant or not. but we've also got lord david pannick, kc behalf boris pannick, kc on behalf of boris johnson , saying there was a real johnson, saying there was a real danger of undermining public confidence in the process. so johnson was agreeing, if you like, with the position of the inquiry itself. >> yeah, this is what was so odd. boris johnson agreed with baroness hallett that she should be able to access whatever whatsapp messages she likes. now, that was because, of course when emerged that boris when it emerged that boris johnson's messages weren't being handed over to the covid inquiry in the first place. it was assumed in westminster and in the media that there was something on boris johnson's phone that he didn't want the covid inquiry to see. now, boris
2:39 pm
johnson put an that by johnson put an end to that by saying, well, no, i'm perfectly happy hand over my phone and happy to hand over my phone and then as far as then actually went as far as to say, my i don't say, here is my phone. i don't care what the cabinet office says. care what the cabinet office says . now, boris johnson care what the cabinet office says. now, boris johnson said that he was perfectly fine with the cabinet office, saying that they thought that it was a dangerous precedent to set . but dangerous precedent to set. but he said that he didn't want to be as a sort of case study be used as a sort of case study for in doing this , in for that. and in doing this, in overturning the government's the cabinet office's case here, the cabinet office, the inquiry has set itself a pretty big precedent. it will now be able to access whatever it likes. now, of course, there is a bit of a danger there that the privacy of ministers and civil servants will be compromised and which is what david pannick was alluding to there. there is a bit of a danger that if this inquiry is allowed to access any private conversations between ministers, then could we end up in a situation where ministers are afraid to talk to each other in private or afraid to have
2:40 pm
sort of robust but frank conversations about public policy? because they're so worried that it's going to end up in the public eye. that is what the cabinet office claims it wanted to avoid. and that's the situation that we find ourselves in now. >> and very quickly , >> and olivia, very quickly, have indication how have we got any indication how much hallett is much stuff baroness hallett is going to have to go through now ? >> ?i >> it 7- >> it is an ? >> it is an enormous amount 7 >> it is an enormous amount of messages that boris johnson that baroness hallett will have to go through. i mean, we were talking about tens of thousands of messages boris johnson had messages which boris johnson had already handed over, those already handed over, and those messages from may 20, messages were only from may 20, 21 onwards. the messages before that were on an phone , which that were on an old phone, which the services told the security services had told bofis the security services had told boris johnson he shouldn't hand over of a security over because of a security compromise . so it is now thought compromise. so it is now thought that that that phone can be securely accessed . so baroness securely accessed. so baroness hallett will have access to all of the messages from boris johnson, from entire covid johnson, from the entire covid area. as i say, this inquiry area. and as i say, this inquiry is not going to end any time soon. and now there is this precedent set that the covid
2:41 pm
inquiry can access any messages it wants from cabinet ministers from that entire period. so i think we can expect this inquiry to take a very long time as baroness hallett and her team wade through all of that really important material. >> olivia at westminster, thank you very much for updating us on that. you very much for updating us on that . the you very much for updating us on that. the king and queen are continuing their scottish royal tour today by visiting the great tapestry of scotland , ten years tapestry of scotland, ten years since it was completed . well, since it was completed. well, the country marking, of course, the country marking, of course, the king and queen's coronation celebration yesterday with this military procession down the royal mile and then the ceremony of dedication and thanksgiving at cathedral in at saint giles cathedral in edinburgh the king touching edinburgh with the king touching the crown there on that very important occasion . important occasion. >> our scotland reporter tony mcguire is in selkirk for us. good afternoon , tony. what sort good afternoon, tony. what sort of welcome did they get or were there some people saying they were very unwelcome . were very unwelcome. >> good afternoon . well, i would >> good afternoon. well, i would say that everybody was very
2:42 pm
welcoming to the king and queen as the cars pulled up outside lochcarron of scotland behind me today. this was their second engagement of the day and very much looking at their diary , it much looking at their diary, it feels like this was a real foot off the gas day after the celebrations and the pomp and ceremony that happened around st giles' cathedral and the royal mail yesterday. however the cars pulled up. the king and the queen both gave the small crowd, i would say, of about 12 or 15, a bit of a wave. and they went inside. they got a nice tour of the facility and we heard them talking to staff and we could hear even from out here quite a lot of laughter and going on of the king. of course , very fond the king. of course, very fond of donning a kilt. any time he's in scotland. and certainly after ispoke in scotland. and certainly after i spoke to you an hour ago, i ended up doing somewhat of a rabbit hole looking at all the tartans that he wears and why he wears them today. certainly he was wearing the prince, a big,
2:43 pm
big a pardon. the duke of rothesay tartan. now the duke of rothesay, of course, that is now the prince william's official title here in scotland . and title here in scotland. and seeing as he is now the heir apparent and the king today donning that, obviously wanting to wear some of his best threads around the people who know tartan better than anyone else, like those here at lochcarron of scotland. you may also have heard of the balmoral tartans . heard of the balmoral tartans. quite a famous one, but that is fully reserved for the royal family and you can't purchase it orindeed family and you can't purchase it or indeed sell it anywhere else in scotland. and that's been that way for the best part of the last hundred years. and then, of course, you might more commonly have seen the king and the prince charles edward stuart tartan, like the one he wore when he visited edinburgh in september last year. so the king knows, knows his tartans. and it
2:44 pm
certainly seemed like he enjoyed talking to the staff and he enjoyed figuring out the full extent of the business. that's done here and the tartan that gets shipped all around the world. before that, as you said, he visited the great tapestry of scotland, which is kind of an episodic tapestry painting out the long troubled. and you know, colourful history that we have here in scotland. and that was finished some years ago . but now finished some years ago. but now certainly he seemed to enjoy kind of featuring this part of the world at the tail end of his trip after some rather busy days i >> -- >> it was particularly lovely was that queen camilla added a final stitch to this new panel and the panel actually features and the panel actually features an image of her two jack russell rescue dogs. and she added the final three stitches to their little collars in this tapestry, which is just gorgeous . which is just gorgeous. >> yeah, that's absolutely lovely. i hadn't seen that,
2:45 pm
actually. so that is news to me. but certainly here in scotland, as i imagine it is , south of the as i imagine it is, south of the border as well. we're a nation of dog lovers and anywhere we can get a meme or a stitching or a cross—stitch of a dog , we can a cross—stitch of a dog, we can get it . get it. >> well, let's cut to the chase . of course, we were pulling cameron's leg that he wasn't wearing his kilt for the occasion in edinburgh. we have to ask, is there a maguire tartan and are you actually featuring it ? featuring it? >> okay , so this is kind of a >> okay, so this is kind of a very contemporary question for me, to be honest. so there isn't a maguire tartan. so the maguire is are actually an irish clan , i is are actually an irish clan, i guess you could say are a family. the closest that we have here in scotland is the mcquarrie, which is kind of an isle of mull, and around the west coast, however , i am west coast, however, i am getting in a couple getting married in a couple of weeks and i'm choosing the spirit of scotland tartan and, and the real question that you really want to ask is, will it be a true scotsman? and for that is between me and our wedding
2:46 pm
photographers . photographers. >> oh, you mean we're not going to see the pictures here on gb news this very important news of this very important event ? event? >> oh, i saw her. cameron reid. cameron's face got over the last few days and you thought it was a good idea? i thought it would. that picture would maybe feature once and low and behold, it was once and low and behold, it was on all the way through to breakfast the day. so no breakfast the next day. so no fool oh well we'll fool me once. on well we'll we'll maybe have a think about that in the days to come. >> but tony, for the moment, thank you very much updating thank you very much for updating us in selkirk. us there in selkirk. >> you. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> think that's >> thank you. i think that's what challenge. what they call a challenge. >> absolutely. obe is talking >> absolutely. obe it is talking of challenges, actually, it is crunch england today crunch time for england today because have must win because they have that must win to match prevent australia from retaining the ashes they're playing at headingley and england have included mark wood, chris woakes and moeen ali for the third test and they're desperate early trying to salvage what's been a pretty poor so far. although poor tournament so far. although great unfortunately for the aussies . aussies. >> yeah. maybe a bit of a >> yeah. so maybe a bit of a change in bowling attack
2:47 pm
change in the bowling attack there. other there. but talking of other types climate types of attack, climate protesters making protesters of course, making their sporting their mark on many sporting events , including, of course, events, including, of course, wimbledon . so could there be wimbledon. so could there be further disruptions? let's get the with our yorkshire the latest with our yorkshire and humberside reporter anna riley, who's at headingley. i guess is pretty tight guess securing is pretty tight there for obvious reasons . good there for obvious reasons. good afternoon to you both. >> yes, it's certainly has been ran wrapped up, of course, because of the just stop oil protesters . it was last protesters. it was last wednesday at the lord's , wasn't wednesday at the lord's, wasn't it, where we saw jonny bairstow actually carrying one of the protesters off the pitch and then the pitch being stormed at wimbledon twice yesterday. so west yorkshire police have been in close contact with the yorkshire county cricket club here at headingley to really ramp up security . i was here ramp up security. i was here this morning when people were coming in before 11:00, and certainly there was a lot of bag searching going on. i saw dog handlers as well, sniffing bags.
2:48 pm
so yes, there's been a lot of security that has been ramped up here. and only not only for that , but also that controversial whole atmosphere between the australia and england with jonny bairstow being struck out as well . so they didn't want any well. so they didn't want any controversy between fans. we did hear a little bit of booing at the coin toss when pat cummins, the coin toss when pat cummins, the australian captain , spoke, the australian captain, spoke, but otherwise there has been a rather jovial atmosphere here. you can see behind me there is police here near the western terrace, and that's where a lot of the atmosphere is coming from. there's been beach balls thrown around and a lot of joviality going on. but i spoke to people about what they thought about the just stop oil protesters. and this is what they had to say to the just just action. >> i think there was a point in their argument how i don't think spoiling the enjoyment for millions is the way to go. i think there's other ways to process rather than doing what they're doing. >> have point. but
2:49 pm
