convinced they can prove people convinced they can prove lucy letby is innocent . i'm lucy letby is innocent. i'm asking what drives these people to get so involved with cases like this? don't want to miss this. then the trump mug shot finally landed . and in true finally landed. and in true capitalist spirit, you can already buy official merch with it on once upon a time in political land, a sniff of scandal would have you cast out. but the cult of trump is proving the very opposite and mps are due to get a bumper pay off if they are voted out or stepped down at the next election. rishi sunak forget to declare an interest in a company that could benefit from government policy . benefit from government policy. and nadine dorries is still checks notes missing in action. who knows where she is? i'm debating this and more with my panel tonight. that's all coming up after the latest news bulletins with aaron armstrong . bulletins with aaron armstrong. very good evening to you. >> let's get you up to date with

8:04 pm
now it's over to dawn. thank you, aaron. >> i'm dawn neesom and you are watching and listening to gb news this friday night before we kick off with the main meat of the show, here's a little taste. pork and conor tomlinson join me to discuss the trump arrest and that mugshot. are we moving to a more dangerous time with putin after the mysterious death of his former supporter, head of the wagner group and mps are being given a bumper bonus if they step down or are voted out in the next election? is this really the time for them to be giving themselves a bonus? donald trump surrendered to a georgia the mugshot ran georgia jail and the mugshot ran around the world than around the world quicker than you indicted . and you can say indicted. and amongst of that , i want to amongst all of that, i want to hear from you because you're the important ones. it's not what i think, what the panel think think, not what the panel think it's about. so will it's all about. you so will donald trump make a good president again ? that's the president again? that's the question tonight. get in touch with us at gb news or email us at gbviews@gbnews.com .
8:05 pm
at gbviews@gbnews.com. now, this is a story that i'm very curious about from missing flight mh 370 to the zodiac killer. so sleuthing is the new but it may be well be incredibly damaging to an active case or to the families of those involved . the families of those involved. the disappearance of nicola bulley remember that poor lady whose body was found in the in the river? so hundreds of people swarmed to the village, claiming to have seen clues interviews to have seen clues in interviews and google and social and google maps and social media. now there's websites dedicated to proving neonatal neonatal nurse lucy letby is innocent of murdering those seven babies. why do people put themselves into cases like this? what drives them to believe only they can see something that an entire police force have missed without any evidence to back it up and certainly nothing like the boxes of evidence. the courts and the lawyers have had to go through every day. it's a fascinating thing . and on fascinating thing. and on online, there are loads of them.
8:06 pm
so joining me now to actually drill down into this story is behavioural psychologist joe hemmings. joe there you are. thank you for joining hemmings. joe there you are. thank you forjoining me on a friday night. now joe, this is all over the all over the social media. this is people trying to solve the lucy letby case and convince that she is innocent and all these conspiracy theories are out there . the theories are out there. the reason the hashtag lucy letby is innocent, it is quite , quite innocent, it is quite, quite appalling. so the big question is what drives these people to do it? joe okay. >> hi , dawn. um, so look, as you >> hi, dawn. um, so look, as you say, conspiracy theories, they've been around forever since man landing on the moon. they didn't. elvis is still alive . climate change isn't alive. climate change isn't happening . covid donald trump happening. covid donald trump you know, at the moment kind of doing it himself. so they're they're there for people who who are either anxious or or they don't trust the world. they they
8:07 pm
can't process a certain amount of information. so the way they handle it is to put out an alternative scenario where they think they've got some control . think they've got some control. add that to the mix of so much true crime documentary out there at the moment. i mean, a lot of those true crime docs are there to say , hey, this is what they to say, hey, this is what they said in 1984. but new evidence has come to light and now we're proving and you're watching that, you know, this didn't really happen, you know, for whatever reason. so i think you put those two things together for and people will will literally jump on a band wagon of anything they cannot interpret. they can't understand. look, the case of lucy letby is massively distressing . you know, people distressing. you know, people trying to understand what it is that drove her to do it. she doesn't fit any particular pattern. so people then come up with something they feel makes them more secure. but in in the wake of that is the awful , you
8:08 pm
wake of that is the awful, you know, trauma they're causing, grieving families by doing it. so yeah, i mean that's that's the that's the problem with this. >> i mean, you know, the families of those poor seven babies and the attempted babies, the attempted murders on babies as well, you know, this is on the internet . they are seeing the internet. they are seeing this as well . so what effect this as well. so what effect must it be having on them to see all these conspiracy theories and all these speculation and, you know, even the fact that, well, she didn't do it. and it's i can't get my head around. it's such an appalling crime, joe, that for people to be putting this stuff there, it's just this stuff out there, it's just horrifying . horrifying. >> well, i hope that there's some sort of police liaison that are warning the parents that have warned them that this may happen, because i'm fortunately, it happens in every major case like this . so i would hope that like this. so i would hope that someone says something. look it's going to be there. i know it's going to be there. i know it's horrific. please ignore it. you know, please step away from it. don't look at it because it will happen. um, and it is it is massively distressing for those
8:09 pm
parents. but i think the people that put these theories out there, these sleuths, which is far too kind a word for what they're doing, you know, they they're doing, you know, they they kind of find some sort of comfort in the way they present themselves. and from what they're saying, they disassociate themselves. they wouldn't be thinking for one minute like a lot of trolls, for example, they're hurting victims. they simply disagree , victims. they simply disagree, associate themselves. they disenfranchise people very often that don't trust society . and that don't trust society. and you add that layer upon layer and they in with these and they pile in with these theories that are , yeah, they're theories that are, yeah, they're appalling. as you say , there's appalling. as you say, there's something lacking in them. >> they're not doing it for the good of society to genuinely try and a crime . there is and solve a crime. there is something they need to do for them . them. >> they might be seeking attention for themselves. they might feel they may be a bit lonely or they just, you know, don't have many people close to them. so they're getting a bit of traction. look talking of traction. look we're talking about you know, the about it now. you know, the papers it. so papers reported on it. so actually what they're getting
8:10 pm
is, is that attention seeking that they want and it doesn't really matter what they say or who they're saying it about . and who they're saying it about. and it's like a troll . but plus, it's like a troll. but plus, plus, plus . and it's got it's plus, plus. and it's got it's the same sort of mindset that doesn't set out to hurt somebody but sets out to have the spotlight on themselves . and spotlight on themselves. and they'll probably be doing it every kind of similar case that arises. >> yeah. and unfortunately, with the internet, there's nothing we can do about it. it's sort of like pretty much the wild west out there. they're just going to just going go with it. just going to go on with it. joe, is other question joe, there is one other question i to ask you. brace i need to ask you. brace yourself. brace yourself . i want yourself. brace yourself. i want yourself. brace yourself. i want you to psychoanalyse for me the mugshot of donald trump . mugshot of donald trump. >> oh, wow . >> oh, wow. >> oh, wow. >> okay. i mean, well, it's now all over merchandise, apparently . so it's been very quickly picked up. i mean, look, it's a very posed staged look. he's supposed to look menacing . he's supposed to look menacing. he's supposed to look menacing. he's
8:11 pm
supposed to look threatening. he's supposed to look like i can do this . i'm looking like as if do this. i'm looking like as if i don't know how they took to get that. i can't believe it's a one off mugshot. it looks very staged. >> it was taken by a prison photographer. i'm sure he didn't have lights and camera and action. well, i not. action. well, i hope not. >> but something glinting off his i mean, he just looks his hair. i mean, he just looks like he's trying to be in control and menacing, but comes over looking a bit sad. really but it'll be my. i've never seen a mug shot like it. he's not even looking full on. really? >> well, i thought joe, i know you're not a criminal expert, but i thought, joe, that the point of a mug shot was like a passport picture where you, you know, expressionless. there was no, smiling no no no, no, no. smiling no no frowning anything at. and, frowning or anything at. and, you he's tried make you know, he's tried to make himself look, i. yeah, well, there's two camps, isn't it? if you support donald trump, he looks sort of like, know, looks sort of like, you know, don't mess me. i'm going to don't mess with me. i'm going to get victory. you know, i am, you know, i'm going to fight back on this one or, you know, the other side are saying that looks
8:12 pm
side are saying that he looks sort like slightly insane. sort of like slightly insane. but trump, isn't but this is donald trump, isn't it? doesn't it? he actually always doesn't just doesn't sit back. he's always fighting . and to be fair, always fighting. and to be fair, that's i guess, quite an admirable quality . admirable quality. >> well, it's about control in a sense. if you could picture the scenario that you said. no, no, no, i'm not having a standard mug shot. you wait till i'm ready and i'm going to frown and look slightly off centre. they take the picture and that will say everything him that he say everything about him that he wants nobody messes with wants to say. nobody messes with me, when my mug shots me, not even when my mug shots being taken police station. being taken in a police station. i'm , you know, running i'm still, you know, running this show . that's what it says this show. that's what it says to me. i mean, i. no idea. that's right. but that's what it looks like. >> well, he has it has boosted his popularity and evidently sales of t shirts and mugs are already flying off the shelves. so that's what donald trump does . joe, think you're frozen . oh, joe, i think you're frozen as well. there oh, my god. we've exhausted on friday night i >>i -- >> i froze. i'm back now . >> i froze. i'm back now. >>— >> i froze. i'm back now. >> joe, thank you very much for joining us tonight. that is our ourjoe hemmings , our

our joe hemmings, our psychologist, ourjoe hemmings, our psychologist, talking about the hideous letby case and hideous lucy letby case and trump's mugshot. right okay. you are watching and listening to gb news. still to come, more of that mug shot. apologies from putin and ongoing mps get a bumper bonus next year. that can't be right, can it? don't miss it. the temperature's rising by next. >> solar proud sponsors of weather on . gb news. weather on. gb news. >> evening. i'm alex deakin and this is your latest weather update from the met office for gb news. it's a bank holiday for many and the weather is going to be mixed. there'll be some sun, there'll be some heavy showers. never particularly warm. monday does dry for many. we've does look dry for many. we've got pressure nearby, but got high pressure nearby, but for time being, pressure for the time being, low pressure is dominating . it's been is still dominating. it's been generating some heavy showers through and will through the day and will continue do so overnight. we continue to do so overnight. we have a met office yellow warning in of in place across parts of southeast scotland. slow moving thundery showers here could cause a bit of disruption elsewhere. the showers are moving more, but still moving a bit more, but still some ones over north—west
8:14 pm
some heavy ones over north—west england night, england through the night, staying pretty wet across northern scotland . a cool night northern scotland. a cool night as figures in rural as well. single figures in rural spots, 10 to 12 in most towns and cities . saturday we'll start and cities. saturday we'll start dry with some sunshine over the midlands , east anglia, the midlands, east anglia, the south—east england and much south—east of england and much of southern scotland may well stay but northwest stay fine. but northwest scotland wet and windy and elsewhere. at the elsewhere. look at this. the heavy showers develop as we heavy showers just develop as we go dodging go through the day. so dodging the downpours on saturday afternoon. there will be some sunshine between the showers and temperatures into the temperatures getting up into the high maybe low 20s across high teens, maybe low 20s across the southeast. so generally cool for the time of year. cool start to sunday again. many will start dry fine with some sunshine, but again, the shower clouds will develop through the day. perhaps not as many as on saturday, and parts of wales may well have a dry afternoon before more cloud and rain comes into the northwest later on. and again, for most places on the cool side , goodbye . , goodbye. >> the temperatures rising , a >> the temperatures rising, a boxt solar proud sponsors of

>> you're listening to gb news radio . radio. welcome back. >> happy friday night. you are watching and listening to gb news with me. dawn neesom. now joining me now are writers and political commentators, paul connew and conor tomlinson. welcome, . thank you welcome, gentlemen. thank you for spending your friday night with really appreciate it. with me. really appreciate it. now the news can't have passed you that donald trump you by that donald trump surrendered to a georgia jail charged with 13 counts, connected efforts to overturn the 2020 election, which he claims was stolen . claims was stolen. >> if you challenge an election , you should be able to challenge an election. i thought the election was a rigged election . a stolen election is election. a stolen election is what has taken place here is a travesty of justice. we did nothing wrong. i did nothing wrong. and everybody knows it . wrong. and everybody knows it. >> he doesn't give up, doesn't many of his supporters say this
8:19 pm
is a witch hunt, although a few people have admitted to as many things as former president trump has on tape and wear a mugshot or any whiff of corruption would normally end a career. it looks like this is only bolstering his campaign for 2024. now paul, i'm coming to you first because we're just having a chat in the break. there were both met mr trump, but you know him much better i do. i only better than i do. i only interviewed once, and that interviewed him once, and that was scary. but what what do you make of what's on what make of what's going on and what do make of the way is do you make of the way trump is behaving towards all? well, behaving towards it all? well, you've admire his what's you've got to admire his what's the oh, yes. chutzpah is >> oh, yes. chutzpah is certainly is certainly the word. i mean, he's he most people would be embarrassed being would be embarrassed about being arrested and having a mugshot taken in the donald treats it as a photo op . already the mugshot a photo op. already the mugshot is now actually a t shirt. you know, being being run off in its tens of thousands for his for his loyalist support base. it's quite it's quite it's quite extraordinary it's also amusing
8:20 pm
because he's had two mug shots taken in fact one in new york for the case there. and one for the one in georgia yesterday . the one in georgia yesterday. surprisingly, apparently he's lost several pounds between the two, in fact. which which. okay i'm no, i'm no dietician. so that's quite feasible. but he's also grown an inch in height. but i don't quite see how he can do that at the age of 77. but this isn't this is the thing i can't understand. >> i thought when because was this in a in a prison. so it this was in a in a prison. so it was all official the mugshot i thought a mugshot you had to look like passport photo, look look like a passport photo, look fairly straight faced. and on the it'd the other hand, i thought it'd be can he lie be official. how can he lie about his height and his weight? >> well, he's treating a about his height and his weight? >> like l, he's treating a about his height and his weight? >> like your he's treating a about his height and his weight? >> like your average treating a about his height and his weight? >> like your average tinder|g a bit like your average tinder bio, so little bit of bio, so he's a little bit of comfortable exaggeration. >> swipe left swipe >> it's a bit swipe left swipe right, exactly. >> i think trump has >> yeah. and i think trump has made calculated bet that if made the calculated bet that if he this particular the he has this particular face, the optics, what's more, american voters swipe right voters are going to swipe right on and it's funny you on him. and it's funny you mention the other mugshot that wasn't i think wasn't released. i think fani willis made miscalculation willis has made a miscalculation here allowing be
8:21 pm
here by allowing it to be released because bragg released because alvin bragg didn't want get out, didn't want it to get out, because democrats know this because the democrats know this is very effective a safe is a very effective in a safe and secure election campaign strategy to have strategy for trump to have because this this is very because and this is this is very important well. if anyone's important as well. if anyone's been the national portrait been to the national portrait gallery all the other gallery in dc, all the other presidents portraits presidents had their portraits painted. he's just painted. trump hasn't. he's just got blown version of an got a blown up version of an official he had official photograph he had taken. no matter taken. gareth t no matter what happens he the happens, whether he wins the election, he gets one taken or the regular one remains there. that mugshot be that photo, that mugshot will be in national portrait gallery in the national portrait gallery as historic piece history. as a historic piece of history. so he has played the optics game very well. and by that face, by the fact that he's the first president to have this, he now looks vindicated the idea looks vindicated in the idea that this a witch hunt that this is a witch hunt against uniquely him. >> in >> well, vindicated in his in his his support, his his in his support, in his support base. i mean, what's going to be interesting, of course, trial course, is the georgia trial will be televised, unlike the new york one, which is quite interesting. paul, more interesting. but paul, the more indictments we're up indictments he gets and we're up to four now, aren't we, 90 charge, i think 91 charges. >> yeah, i think it's 96 actually. the more popular he
8:22 pm
gets. of course . five gets. of course. of course. five points of any of his points ahead of any of his nearest rivals the party. oh, nearest rivals in the party. oh, the arrests and indictments are going to probably almost certainly clinch him. >> the republican nomination. i think that i think that is, if not a racing certainty as near as . but it may not a racing certainty as near as. but it may well it not a racing certainty as near as . but it may well it may not a racing certainty as near as. but it may well it may well turn off college educated republicans who will either not vote for him. you know , even if vote for him. you know, even if they don't vote for the democrats, they will actually stay at home. the soccer mums, for example . i'm not going to be for example. i'm not going to be exactly or the majority of them won't be cheering for trump. so it i think i hope it will cost him the election, even though it will almost certainly clinch him. the gop nomination. i think one thing you aren't counting there is the fact that a recent poll that was republished by the hill found that 12th grade boys are very conservative. are skewing very conservative. >> showing up in the
8:23 pm
>> they aren't showing up in the polls because they're just polls yet because they're just about to leave high school and become voting age. oh wow. >> wow. >> so youngsters are. >> so youngsters are. >> are skewing >> yes, young boys are skewing conservative one because schools are with stuff and are flooded with woke stuff and it's remotely it's just not even remotely cool. and this cool. but two, and this is something that the soccer moms might be pushed back over towards camp because towards trump's camp because remember, win white women remember, he did win white women back in sizeable back in 2016 in sizeable numbers. bidenomics sucks. it's dreadful they've historic dreadful. they've got historic inflation and a lot lots of things . when the americans go to things. when the americans go to the gas pump and they're paying pnces the gas pump and they're paying prices similar to the uk when they paying about three, $4 they were paying about three, $4 a gallon under trump, they're going thinking, well, what going to be thinking, well, what do i more mean tweets do i care more about mean tweets or i fill up my car or the fact i can fill up my car and drive my kids soccer? and drive my kids to soccer? >> that a risk. although i'm >> that is a risk. although i'm i wouldn't actually put money on trump i wouldn't i trump winning it. i wouldn't i wouldn't totally wouldn't rule it out totally ehhen wouldn't rule it out totally either, because american politics at moment are are politics at the moment are are in a shocking and cruel and incredibly divisive state. it's also it's also fascinating that that i think with with trump he is convinced you can say he's a
8:24 pm
cynical liar and he certainly is. but i think he is also convinced himself that he was robbed of the election. he was spite all the evidence to the to the contrary, despite every every legal ruling has gone against him. well, hang on. >> the tale of that tale of that tape , that time, boys. tape, that time, boys. >> one at a time. sorry >> one at a time. sorry >> the tale of that tape. you know, in georgia, speech x speaks volumes. but but america is divided and you've got this extraordinary spectacle looming of a conceited . former president of a conceited. former president with contempt for the law and a man who almost believes he's he should be a demagogue against a member of the gerontocracy who could easily fall over on the campaign trail or at the debate. so it is an incredibly volatile
8:25 pm
situation. >> it's going to be a show trial. i mean, just for him appearing for this indictment, they closed the airspace down or rather, because of a vip event , rather, because of a vip event, which is astonishing. i mean, even the people that against him, the authorities are against him. so, i mean, do you actually think, conor, that he actually believes he's invincible? he did, i think infamously once. and he could stand in the middle of times in new. you can of times square in new. you can shoot people and still fifth avenue and still vote for him. well think know from well i think people know from the the deal that he the art of the deal that he likes make big ask. likes to make the big ask. >> he likes to oversell a >> he likes to oversell it a little bit. then some little bit. and then some people, virtue of his people, by virtue of his charisma, believe him. i think the majority the american the majority of the american pubuc the majority of the american public this will go public that watch this will go well. hang on minute. there is well. hang on a minute. there is a version of the a weaponized version of the justice it's justice department here. it's not been against pro—life not just been against pro—life activists have activists and people that have criticised the fbi criticised joe biden, the fbi recently radical recently investigated radical catholics and that the catholics and said that the rosary a hate symbol. so it's rosary is a hate symbol. so it's being directed at american being directed at the american people as. hang on one people as well as. hang on one second. saying second. you're just saying they've the they've been directed at the american people donald trump
8:26 pm
american people and donald trump looks he's being proven looks like he's being proven right once said they're right when he once said they're not after me, they're after you. i'm just in the way. you i'm just in the way. and if you look at if you look at most look at and if you look at most of trump indictments, of the trump indictments, particularly the georgia ruling, they've 100 different particularly the georgia ruling, theyin 100 different particularly the georgia ruling, theyin there. 100 different particularly the georgia ruling, theyin there. two 30 different particularly the georgia ruling, they in there. two of different particularly the georgia ruling, they in there. two of them, ent particularly the georgia ruling, they in there. two of them, for acts in there. two of them, for example, they're so spurious. they tweets where he's they cite his tweets where he's retweeting news retweeting one america news network of network segment in support of it. these are it. so these charges are completely bogus. every single one of them in every single state is nonsense. >> and sounding like a member of the the cult of trump cult the of the cult of trump cult like . like. >> but read them because he he is a cult leader. >> many of his followers if he if he if he told them that that the that the earth is flat , the the that the earth is flat, the world is flat and revolves around the sun revolves around the earth and the moon is made of blue cheese, he would they would believe even just trade arguments back and forth you like but i'm making substantive arguments about the standing of the case. >> you're just repeatedly >> and you're just repeatedly calling narcissist calling him a narcissist because you slight calling him a narcissist because you the slight calling him a narcissist because you the man. slight against the man. >> you know, think i think >> you know, i think i think i
8:27 pm
think the evidence in fact, speaks about his narcissism and his and his contempt for the for the truth and democracy. >> and certainly i did a book about 3 or 4 years ago on the you know, on on social media and its impact. and trump plays that master play. of course, he's now back. he's now back on twitter. so he's going to be using that extensively again. but but also , i was talking to somebody in ukraine who was quite sort of close to zelenskyy , and they are close to zelenskyy, and they are living in terror of trump , living in terror of trump, winning back the white house because the cash flows, they are they are convinced that america under trump, america will actually roll back, if not totally abandon its support for ukraine. and that will be disaster for europe. >> we're going to leave it there because there's a seamless link to what's coming up next. now, you watching listening you are watching and listening to coming up, rose west to gb news. coming up, rose west banking bumper exit banking blunder. mps bumper exit bonus and desperately seeking doris don't go too

says trump is the only person who can save america. he doesn't stand woke nonsense and has stand for woke nonsense and has a sense approach to a common sense approach to politics. alan says god loves you. get in touch. he's brilliant, alan trump is brilliant, alan says trump is a case study in how to from case study in how to profit from any situation , including the any situation, including the most whatever you think most adverse whatever you think of him, there is a touch of genius about him. you know what? i kind of think that that might be the case. right? okay. you are watching and listening to gb news medical news. you do know that because i'm here now, still in the studio is writer and political commentators paul connew and conor tomlinson . connew and conor tomlinson. well, a nice balance from the readers. i'm just going to read us viewers and listeners, viewers and listeners. i'm a newspaper person, viewers and listeners quick response listeners. just a quick response to what what the viewers are saying listeners are saying. saying and listeners are saying. >> i think trump is positioning himself a of caesar himself as a sort of caesar figure america. figure in america. >> why i think his >> and that's why i think his vengefulness, not policy vengefulness, not his policy platform, is actually his best asset. >> that that mug shot was almost like a spartacus moment, of course, isn't it? >> of course it of course it was. it was. it was all
8:33 pm
pre—planned, opportunistic weather will help clinch weather and it will help clinch him that nomination for the republicans. will it clinch him? the white house? hopefully not. hopefully >> it was quite smouldering. and at the end of the show, i'm going to ask you both to try and do a smouldering trump like pose. so brace yourself. right. well posturing well from political posturing and conspiracy and political posturing conspiracy , a very posturing and conspiracy, a very brief history of what's happened. formerly a loyal putin supporter started a small coup against russian leader a few weeks ago . that's fizzles out weeks ago. that's fizzles out and to no one's surprise, the leader of the wagner group has died circum died in mysterious circum instances. i have to say that if putin isn't lying and didn't have anything to do with it but goes into death, then is the unluckiest man in the world. because this isn't the first time, is it? someone stood against putin perished against putin and perished unexpectedly. i mean, you know , unexpectedly. i mean, you know, the lesson is don't go near windows, don't drink tea, don't get near umbrellas, don't use perfume, just upset him, perfume, just don't upset him, basically. okay you are basically. right. okay you are watching and listening to . watching and listening to. right? okay. yeah. say gb news
8:34 pm
still here talking to the panel next about putin, right? who wants to go first? let's come to you first on on putin. i mean, it . you knew this was going to it. you knew this was going to happen. it. you knew this was going to happen . this is not a surprise. happen. this is not a surprise. and the front page of the mail today and a lot of other papers have got putin going. yeah, well, you know, basically precaution was a nice guy, but had made a few mistakes. >> well, yeah, lots of the papers are obviously outraged about that this about the fact that this happened. but then to understand his psychology to condone his psychology is not to condone it, i said about it, like i just said about trump, being caesar trump, him being a caesar figure. well, putin sees himself in the same way. in very much the same way. >> trump putin, same thing, >> trump and putin, same thing, not same thing, but the same not the same thing, but the same character men. character of great men. >> not necessarily character of great men. >> good, not necessarily character of great men. >> good, buliol necessarily character of great men. >> good, but it necessarily character of great men. >> good, but it does ssarily character of great men. >> good, but it does mean of mean good, but it does mean of epochal okay. and so epochal prominence. okay. and so the that if you're going the idea is that if you're going to go against putin, if you're going shot at the going to take a shot at the king, you better not miss. and this decided go, well, this guy decided to go, well, you what? i'll speak to the you know what? i'll speak to the russians and let's settle it peacefully like men. and then got a plane maybe got on a plane where maybe a bomb lurking. he probably
8:35 pm
bomb was lurking. he probably should have expected would should have expected putin would have his have wanted to bump off his biggest but but biggest rival. ah, but but did he did he get on that plane and has he bumped off? >> we've already been talking about on the about conspiracy theories on the show i mean, there show today, paul. i mean, there was rumours of another plane zigzagging that that zigzagging over that over that one. have changed zigzagging over that over that one. name have changed zigzagging over that over that one. name , have changed zigzagging over that over that one. name , haven'thave changed zigzagging over that over that one. name , haven'thave cto1ged zigzagging over that over that one. name , haven'thave cto ouri their name, haven't they? to our to prigozhin . so and he died to prigozhin. so and he died before and come back in 2019. >> this is this is the week when trump and putin are starring in a movie called you couldn't make it up. >> i mean, it is politics. >> i mean, it is politics. >> quite interesting . >> quite interesting. >> quite interesting. >> interesting. i mean, the old saying about sort of revenge is a dish best served cold. well, that's that's putin's style. and the date was significant to two months to the day since that march on moscow . and some march on moscow. and some analysts are suggesting that, in fact the reason there were there was brazilgen and all his high his high command and all on the
8:36 pm
same plane the royal family would never do. of course , you would never do. of course, you know, or or us president and vice president was because they'd been lulled into a false sense of security. he apparently apparently he he thought that he was back in favour with putin. in fact, that that was a fatal mistake. i mean, okay, we can't be 100% certain that he is dead. >> but i been i would put on 99.99% certainty. >> and the kremlin have denied anything to do with it. >> of course, they would. >> of course, they would. >> and course, there are >> and of course, there are conspiracy theorists already. you , wound by the you know, wound up by the kremlin machine saying, in fact , you know, that it was ukraine behind it all. well, there's no way ukraine could have could have pulled that one off. >> the thing is, we don't know, do we? >> i mean, but, you know , >> i mean, but, you know, connon >> i mean, but, you know, connor, does this actually prove that putin is being increasing irrational confused does irrational and confused or does he that can just he believe that he can just a bit like trump? you made the comparison. just believe he's invincible. he away with invincible. he can get away with
8:37 pm
whatever to do. whatever he wants to do. >> i think perfectly >> i think it's perfectly rational do this. rational for putin to do this. doesn't it's good, but it doesn't mean it's good, but it makes rational take out makes it rational to take out a very well armed leading rival for the position of president. so i don't think he's going mad. and and is something and also and this is something that we're going to that i'm sure we're going to disagree what disagree on no matter what happens the resolution of happens with the resolution of the ukraine war. putin a the ukraine war. putin has to a large extent won because he's already consolidate economic large extent won because he's alre.resource)lidate economic large extent won because he's alreresource procurementonomic large extent won because he's alreresource procurement power: and resource procurement power with china russia, the with brics. china russia, the like, the parallel alliance that as soon as the uk, the us and the like decide to decommission fossil fuels, well, they're going running to them going to be running to them for all the resources they all of the energy resources they need. so they're going to be making lot money no matter making a lot of money no matter how territory can or how much territory he can or can't gain. >> might not totally >> we might not totally disagree. there because steady on, analysts are are divided when you look at it between those who think that this was a sign of weakness and a bit of desperation by putin and those who think he is actually consolidating his position and strengthened it because it was weakening. in fact, you know , in weakening. in fact, you know, in the long term , others think he's
8:38 pm
the long term, others think he's boosted it only in the short in the short term . and it's going the short term. and it's going to be an unfolding drama. but but again, played out with the american election looming because, in fact , even as the because, in fact, even as the ukraine war broke out, trump actually expressed his admiration an for putin, which is which is backtracked from a little bit, but only only a little bit, but only only a little bit. and of course, we've had the absurd third statements. can i ask can i ask trump saying that, in fact, if he was in the white house, the ukraine war would have been settled 24 would have been settled in 24 hours, off admiration. hours, come off it admiration. >> he actually say he >> how was it he actually say he said that he said that putin was a considerable figure and he had he had great admiration for him. >> he then backed off that as it became quite clear that, you know, what was happening . but know, what was happening. but recall the meeting that they had when in an unprecedented move , when in an unprecedented move, trump did not take any of his officials in. no notes were
8:39 pm
taken at a private meeting, meeting with putin that that putin putin confirmed trump had threatened to nuke moscow if he moved anywhere else. >> so putin clearly was saying , >> so putin clearly was saying, well, i have reverence for trump. it doesn't mean that they agree on very much, but they were staring each other down as as men were capable of as men who were capable of comparable threat levels. >> the propaganda >> come on. the propaganda machine, which which putin, you know , we don't we can't believe know, we don't we can't believe overseas certainly meddled or tried to meddle in the couple trump presidency presidency campaign and i'm sure they will be doing it again because they would far sooner they would not they wouldn't have kremlin and putin would far sooner have trump in the white house. >> of moscow's wife. >> the mayor of moscow's wife. so is financially so biden family is financially compromised. can't just turn compromised. you can't just turn around say, because some around and say, oh, because some russians completely unconnected around and say, oh, because some russia trump pletely unconnected around and say, oh, because some russia trump pletely unc ran ected to the trump campaign, ran a bunch facebook accounts bunch of facebook accounts with a memes flipped the a few memes that it flipped the election when the son of the
8:40 pm
sitting president is didn't say they election. they flipped the election. >> they tried to flip the >> i said they tried to flip the election, which a different thing. >> okay. well, doesn't mean >> okay. well, it doesn't mean that would that they necessarily would prefer in power than the prefer trump in power than the current they current hegemon, which they are compromised financially compared to independently to trump, who is independently wealthy to nuke wealthy and who threaten to nuke them stepped over the line. >> so do you do you think do you think, if trump had think, connor, that if trump had still president, still been president, maybe putin wouldn't have invaded the ukraine? >> don't think ukraine? >> don'tthink would have >> i don't think he would have chanced i mean, he chanced it. no. i mean, he invaded under he invaded under obama. he has since invaded under biden. trump also going back also particularly going back to the made the energy point trump made america independent america an energy independent nafion america an energy independent nation a net exporter of nation and a net exporter of fossil fuels, challenging russia's hegemony russia's oil and gas hegemony for first since richard for the first time since richard nixon the target, biden nixon set the target, biden systematically has demolished american independence. american energy independence. so he's weakened america on the global with his global stage with his afghanistan his afghanistan policy and his energy do you think that biden >> what do you think that biden is investing in? >> know, in future >> you know, in future technology in a way that trump would not, would have would not, would never have done? trump is a is done? because trump is a is a neo climate change denier, if not a total clone. >> but he brought emissions down. so it doesn't matter about
8:41 pm
what he says. it matters about his policies. >> is true they are in a >> and it is true they are in a better state than we are with the energy and the economy, of course. >> well, of course they are. >> well, of course they are. >> what do you think to >> but what do you think to that, paul? if trump had still been president president, been president or was president, that trump that putin might have thought invading thought twice about invading ukraine, say. >> but but but putin has putin's putin's sane or not or or not totally sane. was obsessed with the idea of restoring ing the russian empire, not just the old soviet union, but but the tsarist expanse of russia. and i don't think he's lost that, in fact. and apparently he he was reading and it's quite, quite well—sourced. he was reading extensively russian history, particularly about about the tsars and peter the great throughout his his personal lockdown down when he was nowhere near the kremlin during the pandemic. you know what's what's the end game quick , quick
8:42 pm
what's the end game quick, quick final answer. >> what's the end game for putin to secure as much territory as he can, where he thinks ethnic russians currently to russians currently are to the donbas the like. donbas regions and the like. >> already achieved >> but he's already achieved part his endgame, which is part of his endgame, which is resource dominance resource and economic dominance and strategic alliance with and a strategic alliance with china. into that. >> the chinese are pragmata that. so that's see that that. so that's let's see that where goes. the ukraine where that one goes. the ukraine war is not going the way that putin thought would. and putin thought it would. and i think that he i wouldn't put money either way on whether putin is going to survive long term or short or short term . but term or short or short term. but but the almost certain assassination on you know, and trying to actually decapitate the wagner group, although they're reappearing, they have made threats, haven't they? >> you know, they will you know, this this was cynical all clear cut. >> and but a gamble and if it shows strength or weakness in putin, let's wait and see, because i think the jury is out on that one. right. >> we move on. i want you to

8:46 pm
to hello welcome back you're watching and listening to gb news with me dawn neesom still in the studio still there, still friends are still talking. are writers and political commentators paul kanu and connor tomlinson. now ah, we only have about two minutes here, so i want very short and concise answers, she says. no best headmistress voice. they're ignonng best headmistress voice. they're ignoring me, so doesn't matter what i say, really. now the following stories lies. and by sure , i mean no more than a sure, i mean no more than a sentence. okay or correction will be dished out . okay. so now will be dished out. okay. so now , paul, i'm looking at you and i say that in particular. actually, you've just been as bad. well, tonight, to be honest with you. now, the first story,
8:47 pm
gentlemen, is rose west bank account. now, i know this is a throwaway comparison, but is it right? nigel farage has to fight for his account when other banks are happy to dish them out too. well serial killers, let's be honest . well serial killers, let's be honest. right. well serial killers, let's be honest . right. okay, paul, go honest. right. okay, paul, go right very quickly. >> when i appear on nigel farage show, we argue good natured argument over fast on banking. he has become a hero. so i am a cheerleader for nigel farage on that. >> so the story is basically serial killer rose west has been allowed to keep her co—op bank account , the all inclusive bank, account, the all inclusive bank, by the way, they include themselves, but they have stopped a feminist group who may or may not have been a bit gender critical about the transgender movement having an account . account. >> yes. so it just embarrasses the idea that these banks are interested in ethical investing the idea that these banks are intereresg, n ethical investing the idea that these banks are intereresg, environmental, ing the idea that these banks are intereresg, environmental, social under esg, environmental, social governance scores. when they score criticising score people criticising trans ideology as worse and warranting having their bank account taken, ideology as worse and warranting havirliteral' bank account taken, ideology as worse and warranting havirliteral serial account taken, ideology as worse and warranting havirliteral serial killerst taken, ideology as worse and warranting havirliteral serial killers .taken, then literal serial killers. >> it's mad literal theory to be fair to the co—op bank, the
8:48 pm
account is used by rose west daughter, so that is their excuse and they can. they deemed her not a reputational risk. huh mm hmm. yes. any case. right. okay. now, next story . mps are okay. now, next story. mps are to get a bumper bonus to their severance pay next year. this was announced by the independent parliamentary standards authority and nothing to do with the mps themselves . but with the mps themselves. but with everything else happening, should they read the room? and actually, you know, be a bit like we're all suffering? why shouldn't they? okay, we're going to come to you first, connon >> they also gave themselves a pay >> they also gave themselves a pay rise during the pandemic, which is a bit of a spit in the eye for all the people that they locked down and then caused massive inflation then rob massive to inflation then rob them of their earnings. i think people bit more people would be a bit more sympathetic is sympathetic because this is about four months after they actually leave office. they actually leave office. if they gave money gave themselves enough to money complete if they complete their casework, if they thought actually doing complete their casework, if they thcbecause actually doing complete their casework, if they thcbecause don't actually doing complete their casework, if they
8:49 pm
thcbecause don't actualanyoing complete their casework, if they thcbecause don't actualany ofg it, because i don't think any of the maybe other than maybe the mps maybe other than maybe three, count three, that i can count backbenchers off the top of my head, are doing their jobs. and head, are doing theirjobs. and so were just like, so most people were just like, no, should no, you know what? you should actually threat of actually have the threat of destitution to make sure you are doing your job. >> this to be this is >> so this to be clear, this is if they step down just before the election, not the next election, they're not going the next election, they're not goiibut if they if they resign, >> but if they if they resign, otherwise they're to get payout. >> yeah, i think where does that happen other job? happen in any otherjob? >> i was glad hear bob seely, happen in any otherjob? >.prominentid hear bob seely, happen in any otherjob? >.prominent tory hear bob seely, happen in any otherjob? >.prominent tory mp r bob seely, happen in any otherjob? >.prominent tory mp on ob seely, happen in any otherjob? >.prominent tory mp on thiseely, a prominent tory mp on this station earlier on station actually earlier on condemning saying condemning this and saying especially at of of especially at the time of a of a cost living crisis, i have cost of living crisis, i have sympathy and sympathy on one level only and that one of the that is that one of the arguments that it gives arguments is that it gives time for their staff to be to help find other jobs. for their staff to be to help find the other jobs. for their staff to be to help findthe staff otherjobs. for their staff to be to help findthe staff are ither jobs. for their staff to be to help findthe staff are one jobs. for their staff to be to help findthe staff are one thing. the but the staff are one thing. the mps who actually mps themselves who actually chose to actually go into politics the risk politics and take the risk of being and unelected. i being elected and unelected. i think different . it's think it's different. it's different in in their in their case, but it's not a it's not a good look in the court of public opinion, you know, that it's doubled their sort of severance money has actually doubled. and of course , one of the other
8:50 pm
of course, one of the other things, even among staff, of course, one of the other things, even among staff , too things, even among staff, too many mps employ members of their own families in their offices on inflated salaries, which brings us very neatly to on nadine dorries now getting the boot. >> well, she's she's one of those that says she's going to step down before the next election, hasn't she? >> well, although it's said she would immediate effect, but would with immediate effect, but that like ago, that was like a month ago, wasn't it? >> it's a difficult to >> now it's a bit difficult to tell whether actually tell whether she's actually stepped down or not because nobody she is . has nobody knows where she is. has any ? any thoughts? >> i'm not the biggest fan of nadine dorries came out nadine dorries after it came out that while as minister for that she, while as minister for culture and sport, was also spying lockdown, critics and spying on lockdown, critics and then feigned completely no then just feigned completely no knowledge of and said knowledge of it, and also said that she was going to lock up jemmy a joke with the jemmy carr for a joke with the onune jemmy carr for a joke with the online harms bill. i think online harms bill. so i think the shot of her, the sooner we're shot of her, the sooner we're shot of her, the but the that the better. but the fact that she's still probably taking a pay she's still probably taking a pay serving her pay packet while not serving her constituents major issue. constituents is a major issue. yeah, friend of mine who yeah, a friend of mine who happens to be one of her constituents quite a mischief i >> computer geek is planning to actually create a game in fact,
8:51 pm
actually create a game in fact, a sort of a version of where's wally? that's which now is where's nadine ? can anybody see where's nadine? can anybody see nadine ? they certainly haven't nadine? they certainly haven't seen it in mid bedfordshire . seen it in mid bedfordshire. >> she would be. >> she would be. >> she'll be honest. i mean we're all working on a friday night. bank holiday night. it's a bank holiday weekend, i hope weekend, by the way, so i hope you're going have a good one. but we're all working a but we're all working on a friday night. mps get friday night. do mps get too much any case? >> well, i'm not necessarily worried about their holidays. >> well, i'm not necessarily woriworried ut their holidays. >> well, i'm not necessarily woriworried about r holidays. >> well, i'm not necessarily woriworried about whether's. >> well, i'm not necessarily woriworried about whether or not i'm worried about whether or not they're doing other that they're doing other things that are distracting them. like, let's lot of let's be honest, quite a lot of the second jobs. and the time. second jobs. and when they're time the time. second jobs. and when th
