send a message to westminster to send a message to westminster that you looked incompetent and we wanted you to regroup. so thatis we wanted you to regroup. so that is the message that if we show competence, if we start to refine the policies that will appeal to the electorate as a whole, then we can actually push reform away without having to feel the need to join them. i make it really clear that it's very, very simple. what we need to do put country before party, don't make promises to court the membership vote that won't survive contact with the real world. let's stay professional. let's don't turn this into the hunger games and let's retain a broad church appeal. pitching from the extreme, as i say, will never win. and finally, we're in no rush. the nation really is not listening to us yet. we've got a long time to regroup, craft that longer term narrative that helps us broaden our electoral appeal. so that we actually do attract people under the age of 30. >> tobias ellwood a real treat to have you back on the show. we'll catch up soon. former conservative mp tobias ellwood, of course, chair of the defence
3:31 am
select committee and former soldier, as well a fascinating stuff. well, more to come on that. but next up, take a look at this extraordinary video of opera singer wyn evans touching his strictly come dancing partner inappropriately. now they've said it's a joke. look what he's doing with his hand there all over that lady's waist. but is there more to this story than meets the eye.7 i'll story than meets the eye? i'll be asking. one of britain's best known connected showbiz journalists in what looks be another developing bbc
3:32 am
3:33 am
3:34 am
the lang cat shafee elsheikh . the lang cat shafee elsheikh. >> and what? that actually won't be done by isaac levido. >> okay, folks, if you're just joining us, i or 2 camera problems. it's like old school gb news, isn't it? when we started, i kind of miss the little chaos with the cameras and the sound. we're far too professional these days. i think
3:35 am
what's happened is that my directorial team have gone to the pub because it's sunday. but listen, let's crack on. it doesn't rain, but it pours, does it? and why does it always happen when i'm on air? poor old donald trump has suffered. what could have been a third assassination attempt . luckily, assassination attempt. luckily, it was thwarted. this was yesterday in coachella in california. donald trump wanted to address a crowd there , and to address a crowd there, and somebody was apprehended a mile from the venue with multiple firearms, saying that he wanted to kill trump. he's now essentially being dealt with by the authorities. i think he's on bail. but really, really worrying for news american development, that race for the white house, which couldn't be more toxic. so i'll bring you more toxic. so i'll bring you more on that extraordinary story shortly. but let's talk about the bbc now, because a row has broken out on strictly come dancing with a video emerging, appearing to show welsh opera singer wyn evans touching his strictly dance partner katya
3:36 am
jones, inappropriately reaching his hand around her waist. take a look at the offending video so there he is behind her and she's she's moving his hand away from hers. i mean, it looks like highly inappropriate behaviour. if that happened on public transport, you'd be arrested. but this follows another clip showing jones offering a high five to his partner but being rejected . there you go. that's rejected. there you go. that's pretty embarrassing, isn't it ? pretty embarrassing, isn't it? and now the two of them have said the whole thing was a joke. take a listen. hi, everybody. >> hi, everyone. it's winnie and cassie here. we just wanted to say we were just messing around in the auditorium on saturday night and just want to say sorry. it was a silly joke. yeah, sorry. >> okay, well , folks, what on >> okay, well, folks, what on earth is going on? let's speak to one of the best connected showbiz journalists in the country. stephanie takyi. stephanie. >> good evening. mark. >> good evening. mark. >> my goodness. strictly is a headune >> my goodness. strictly is a headline making machine. >> it's a headline making mess. mark at the moment. you know,
3:37 am
when i saw those videos, i think what the actual joke is, is that they were forced to make this apology . they could have let it apology. they could have let it all blow over and people would have forgotten about it. the cameras do not lie, mark. for most women watching that move from within and the way katya removed his arm, it looks uncomfortable. it doesn't look like it's an easy moment between the pair. you know, katya has come out and said, you know, it's absurd to think that anything was behind it, but it makes a mockery of viewers who are watching it and clearly saying, you look uncomfortable here and because the bbc have had so much scandal around this whole series, the bbc only have themselves to blame. they've made the show into a thing where people now are watching it like a hawk eye for things like this. so when may be clearly innocent here, but because the bbc have made it so that every move needs to be analysed, people are going to be analysed, people are going to come out with controversial statements like this. >> indeed , the two have said >> indeed, the two have said that this is a private joke
3:38 am
between them. are you buying that or is there more to this story than meets the eye? mark? >> i think there's more to meets the eye, and i wouldn't be surprised in a few years if we're both still here, we'll be talking about the headlines when katya can probably talk about what's actually happened right now, they're trying to save face for the show. they're trying to actually save the show itself from all of the controversies that's been through, because to women who've actually gone through those kind of harassments, you can't make light of that. and you can't say, that's a joke. you know what's been going on with the show at the moment? people are saying , actually, that doesn't saying, actually, that doesn't look too comfortable. >> well, definitely. i mean, this is this this footage is wyn jones reaching around to, if you're only listening on the radio, reaching with his hand onto her midriff. i mean, i'm not sure that even mrs. dolan would put up with that. and we're married. these two are not in a relationship. >> they're dance partners on national television . and the national television. and the thing is, i want to play devil's advocate here, mark, because if it was all innocent, the problem is now watching the results show
3:39 am
tonight , wyn is now watching the results show tonight, wyn looked very uncomfortable. he didn't put his hand on katya because now his reputation could be tarnished . reputation could be tarnished. so, so far he's been doing great in this series. but now what's going to happen? people are going to happen? people are going to happen? people are going to be watching. oh, is he touching that dancer inappropriately? and this is all happened because the fun has been taken out of strictly. >> and if this was a private joke, what kind of joke is it? it involves a man touching another woman that's not in relationship. >> this is why this apology video that they've put out twice now, they've put out two apology videos. it doesn't make sense, and it does make a mockery of women who have been through abuse. >> the video is like something out of north korea , isn't it? out of north korea, isn't it? frankly, it's like they've got a gun to their head. well, we've got another development now because my team have got hold of the latest apology from katya jones on instagram. so let's take a listen to what she has said earlier today. >> happy sunday everyone. >> happy sunday everyone. >> now i need to make something crystal clear . the hand incident crystal clear. the hand incident that happened on saturday night
3:40 am
was an insight, a very silly, very silly inside joke between wyn and i. so even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended me in any way is complete nonsense. it's quite absurd actually. now can we just focus on how brilliantly he's doing and what an amazing dance that he's becoming? delivery . that he's becoming? delivery. sorry, got to go. but listen, love by what a pantomime. >> now, while that was playing out, you used a word you said. cringe. >> it's very cringe worthy because, you know, with most of these situations you don't want to add more fuel to the fire. the more videos you make, the more the public are going to attack and say, are you taking us for fools? you just let it blow over. but the fact that she's trying to convince us that everything's okay, like, do you think we're stupid? katya? we are not. >> now, katya jones has previous on this because it was her brief relationship with comedian sean walsh that saw him thrown off the show, and pretty much his
3:41 am
career destroyed . career destroyed. >> well, this is what katya is trying to do now. she's trying to save wynn's reputation here because she did have that scandalous kiss with sean while she was married to neil jones, another professional dancer on the show . the show. >> so now that killed their marriage, didn't it? >> both totally dead in the water. but now, with this win, he's been such a lovable character up until now. but i think now a lot of women are going to be questioning, is he some kind of going too far with his touches? and it will be totally unfair if it was just an innocent touch. >> well, that's right, if there's going to be a victim here. if it was an innocent joke. yeah. wyn jones will pay the price professional, won't he ? the price professional, won't he? >> he will professionally. and also, you can see already the spark has gone. when he was talking about tonight, he didn't want to hug katya. and she was all over him. and he was just a bit standoffish. and that's the problem now a lot of men face now because they don't know how far is too far, and they don't want to be accused of something they're not. >> stephanie, it was such a treat to have you in the studio. really good to see you again. and you are britain's best
3:42 am
connected showbiz journalist. thank you for giving us the inside track. we'll regroup sooi'i. 500“. >> soon. >> oh , definitely. >> oh, definitely. >> oh, definitely. >> because let me tell you, the plot thickens on that one. forget about trump. assassinations. it's the curse of strictly that we've got to worry about. time now for the great british giveaway, and your chance to win the equivalent of having an extra £3,000 in your bank account every month for the whole of the next year. that is a whopping £36,000 in tax free cash. here are the details of how you get it. >> this is your chance to win a £36,000 secret salary in the latest great british giveaway. >> that's like having £3,000 each month for an entire year. >> extra cash in your bank account that you can do whatever you like with. take a year off and keep it to yourself. you don't even need to tell the taxman as it's totally tax free. for another chance to win £36,000 in tax free cash text cash to 632321. entry costs £2

3:44 am
3:45 am
3:46 am
welcome back. now, in a very special take at ten, i'll be deaung special take at ten, i'll be dealing with ian hislop on have i got news for you, who has launched an extraordinary attack
3:47 am
on gb news. i'll be dealing with hislop in no uncertain terms at ten. you won't want to miss it if you're just joining us. this always happens when i'm on air. unfortunately, an assassination attempt has been made on donald trump for the third time. now. this was not a physical attack on donald trump. somebody carrying multiple firearms yesterday in coachella in california was apprehended by the police. this individual is now in police custody and was told that he wanted to kill donald trump. obviously, a really worrying development in what has become a very toxic race for the white house. but if we get more on this, i'll let you know. let me tell you that i can now tell you that i'm heanng can now tell you that i'm hearing from my colleagues in our newsroom that this individual has been apprehended and released on bail. okay, well, look, folks, it's time now for this . yes, it's time for for this. yes, it's time for mark meats. and this evening, the member of parliament for west aberdeenshire and kincardine and current shadow minister for veterans and energy
3:48 am
security and net zero, andrew bowie. andrew. lovely. that you've come into the studio. hotfoot it from the airport. yeah . yeah. >> on my weekly commute home. >> on my weekly commute home. >> was your flight on time? >> was your flight on time? >> just about. >> just about. >> yeah, actually. well, why don't we start with that? because you are the shadow secretary of state for net zero. yeah. where are you at with net zero at the moment? >> well, look, i think we've got to take a pragmatic and proportionate response. i think one of the things that did resonate with the british people last year was when rishi said that these targets, that we were setting these arbitrary targets for removing gas boilers or enforcing or forcing people to purchase electric vehicles, weren't going to be met. so why have them in the first place? let's be realistic about it. wait for the to market sort of lead the way. prices to come down and people to accept this as a way forward. we do need to clean up the air that we breathe. i think everybody accepts that. but we need to do that in a way that doesn't impact on people's pockets inordinately. and i think that that's the approach that we're seeking to take. that's the approach that claire coutinho and i within the energy shadow energy team are taking, as opposed to this eco zealotry
3:49 am
that we're seeing with with ed miliband and his arbitrary 2030 target for a decarbonised grid and all of the pain that it's going to bring bill payers and indeed communities across the country are going to be hosting all of this new energy infrastructure that will have to be built if we are going to come anywhere close to meeting a target that has just been plucked out of the to air appease people like dale, vince and others who've donated a lot of money to the labour party, should the new tory leader scrap net zero altogether? >> just make a commitment that we're going to have renewables and we're going to go green, but scrap that commitment to net zero? >> i don't know, because i think net zero in and of itself is actually a very popular policy. i think 72% of the population actually believe that we should get to a place that is somewhere around net zero. that's something that i think until people see the cost, though. well, yeah, but it needs to be done proportionately and in a pragmatic way. so it's 2050 proportionate. i think 2050 is proportionate. i think 2050 is proportionate. what's not proportionate. what's not proportionate is 2030 for a decarbonised grid that target is absolutely ridiculous. >> but china. china won't be there by 2050. but china is or india or brazil. >> but china is also decarbonised and they're building more small modular
3:50 am
reactors. they have plans to build small modular reactors. they are decarbonising in a in a big way. yes. they're building right now. more coal fired power stations , gas fired power stations, gas fired power stations. that's to keep industry going whilst they build up the renewables and new and cleaner technology to get them to this cleaner future. but we're not alone in wanting to clean up the air that we breathe, wanting to cut our carbon emissions. and i'm quite proud we've already halved our carbon emissions faster than any g7 nation, so we don't need to set arbitrary targets that are going to hurt the british people, while still aiming to get to net zero by 2050. that, i think, is the sensible way forward. >> now, you were chairman of the university of aberdeen conservative and union association association quite a long time ago. now, young whippersnapper, you look the same. you're not aged a day. let me tell you. so your relationship with the conservative party goes back a long way. why is kemi badenoch the right person to take it forward? >> look, kemi is somebody that i've known since i got elected alongside her in 2017. i served as her junior minister in the department for trade when i was ex—sports minister. she's somebody that when she's tasked with the job, she gets it done.
3:51 am
she can cut through the noise. she can cut through the noise. she isn't. she doesn't shy away from a fight. and we're going to need somebody to be able to cut through this noise. you know, we are a very diminished force in parliament right now. and indeed out in the country. we need somebody who's going to go toe to toe with keir starmer every week at the despatch box, who's going to trump him when it comes to the proper arguments? the people out there want to actually have us having issues that people care about, concerns that people care about, concerns that the british people have, and somebody that's going to be able to take on nigel farage and say to the people that voted reform at this last election, look, come back to the conservative party, we're the party for you. we can beat labour and we can get the conservative party back into government . i think kemi is the government. i think kemi is the only person out there right now who's able to do that. >> she's been critical of maternity pay and has suggested that some civil servants should go to prison . does she speak go to prison. does she speak first and think second? >> no . firstly, on the civil >> no. firstly, on the civil servants piece, i think it was quite clear that what she was saying was a joke. and on her criticism of maternity pay. look, i think what she's saying has been deliberately misinterpreted. she was talking about the overarching or overweening cost of doing business in this country. we need to make it easier for
3:52 am
people to grow businesses, to create wealth, to create the jobs that will move this country and the economy forward. >> that's in the best interests of all of us. the new leader of the tory party doesn't need, if they're going to make an impact. look, she's she's a troublemaker and brings trouble on herself. >> she's not a troublemaker at all. and she. but what she does do is she thinks deeply about issues that are facing the country and indeed about the issues that are facing the british people. and one of those issues is the cost of doing business in this country. that's what she was talking about in that interview. and i think people have deliberately misinterpreted as a result of her being the member's favourite. and going into this competition as the favourite. i've deliberately gone after her because she's got a target on her back. but no, she's she's a serious candidate and i think she's up to the job. >> what's she got that robert jenrick hasn't? >> look, robert is a great guy. >> look, robert is a great guy. >> all of the candidates, he might be your boss in a couple of weeks. >> he may be. he may be my boss in a couple of weeks. but i'm working very hard to try and make sure that kemi is my boss in a couple of weeks. what does she have that robert doesn't have? look, the ability to cut through. the ability to connect. the ability to trump. keir starmer when it comes to the main arguments, keir is worried
3:53 am
about her and the ability to attract those reform voters that have left us in the last election. i think all of those points are things that stand in, kemi said. and also her her desire to take a step back and examine what it is that went wrong. why is it that we suffered our worst ever defeat and what is it that the conservative party in 2024 and leading into up to 2030, actually stands for? and that, i think, is something that's going to take somebody with the calibre of kemi to work out and put together a package that will appeal to the british people moving forward. >> andrew, do you come back and see us again soon? delight to have you in the studio. my thanks very much. andrew bowie mp fascinating conversation. your reaction gbnews.com/yoursay now coming up in a take at ten special, take a listen to this . special, take a listen to this. >> if it's just this isn't gb news . news. >> ian hislop has launched an extraordinary attack on this channel on the bbc's have i got news for you. we've got the media elite rattled . we are media elite rattled. we are living rent free in their heads. i'll be dealing with mr hislop and the blatant left wing bias

of his so—called comedy show in just a couple of minutes time in a take at ten special. you won't want to miss it. first up, the weather. >> a nice bright morning will generate a lovely warm day right through to the evening. boxt solar sponsors of weather on gb news . news. >> good evening and welcome to your latest gb news, weather update from the met office through this evening. largely dry across the eastern half of the country, but we will have rain arriving from the west and it'll be turning milder as well. so ridge of high pressure at first fairly settled conditions, but we do have this area of rain and this frontal system out towards the west , with southerly towards the west, with southerly winds developing through the end of sunday. so fairly patchy rain across the far north, but across the far southwest wales, devon and cornwall. heavy rain and quite strong winds developing as we head through this evening. quite blustery across the southern half of the uk and that frontal system slowly moving its way eastwards. milder for all,
3:55 am
particularly across the southwest. but even parts of northern ireland and scotland a touch higher, although there still will be a few isolated frost patches in rural spots back to the southern half of the uk though, so quite a damp start, it could be quite difficult driving conditions through the morning rush hour with some spray on the road, but further north it will start to come a bit drier and brighter, certainly for places such as northern ireland and parts of nonh northern ireland and parts of north east and scotland, it will be fairly dry, bright and crisp. start to the day on monday. further west across the western isles, still lingering on underneath that band of rain. and with those stronger winds coming from that southerly direction through the rest of monday, though, that front system does move off in towards the north sea and it does become dnen the north sea and it does become drier, particularly across western parts through the rest of monday. further north, as particularly some decent sunshine across northern ireland and scotland, but further south, quite stubbornly holding onto that cloud so mild temperatures, but still fairly cool temperatures again into the double figures across scotland and some bright sunshine. tuesday will be starting
3:56 am
generally cloudier for much of the uk, and notice these winds will be picking up as well. so particularly parts of scotland will notice a more blustery feel on tuesday. and then we begin to see some areas of showers moving in from the west, so largely dry. on tuesday , showers dry. on tuesday, showers spreading in on the west on wednesday, but it will be a touch drier for most on thursday. that's all from me. bye for now. >> we can expect clear skies leading to a light and warm day ahead . lovely boxt sponsoi's sponsors of weather on
