the international investment summit tomorrow. jonathan reynolds says it's not the government's position that p&o ferries is a rogue operator, despite a press release this week calling them a rogue employer. p&o ferries owner dp world will now attend the summit tomorrow. they'd previously threatened to pull out of the event, and a £1 billion port investment after the transport secretary, louise hague, criticised their employment strategy and called for a boycott. the operator was criticised by politicians from both main parties in march 2022, when it suddenly sacked 800 british seafarers and replaced them with cheaper, mainly overseas staff, saying it was necessary to stave off bankruptcy quickly. >> on this issue. that's not the government's position. the issue obviously with p&o ferries is we're not going to recoil from that. we thought it was wrong, the fire and rehire that we saw those workers being sacked and then taken back on. on fewer terms and conditions, but we have changed the law. it was

make jokes about the current government? you know , that old government? you know, that old fashioned thing called satire? speaking truth to power. mocking those who govern us. no such luck at our extensively funded national state broadcaster, the bbc, who still seem to think that we've got a conservative government. i had the profound misfortune of watching have i got news for you? this week? because i'd already finished watching the paint dry in my newly decorated living room. now the duration of this programme was 29 minutes, and in the course of this 29 minute show, which is about politics and current affairs, they made wait for it five pointed jokes about this current government, five jokes in half an hour. that was it. so i can count on the fingers of one hand in a half houn fingers of one hand in a half hour. show the number of gags about a scandal hit new government that's been in power for 100 days. ian hislop , for 100 days. ian hislop, private eye editor and clearly a very talented man, was asked by

the excellent guest host amol rajan what his appraisal was of labour's first 100 days in power. great question, i thought, and a gift for hislop. surely i expected the nation's foremost satirist to let rip. he'll have a field day with this. i thought the sacking of sue gray, who was on a higher wage than keir starmer, the handover of strategically sensitive sovereign territory to a chinese ally, a civil war within the labour party with leaks galore and party mandarins briefing against each other. the winter fuel payment cut for pensioners, the freebie scandal, the taylor swift tickets nearly losing a billion quid's worth of investment because of the transport secretary's student union rant against p&o in a show that had five jokes about this new government , they could have new government, they could have filled the entire programme . but filled the entire programme. but no. when asked for his appraisal of the last 100 days, all hislop could say is that keir starmer

is still prime minister. that was it, effectively defending starmer , who, by the way, has starmer, who, by the way, has lower approval ratings now than rishi sunak did before the election . and whilst the election. and whilst the programme contained just five pointed jokes about this new government , only one came from government, only one came from britain's satire laureate himself, mr hislop . something himself, mr hislop. something about lord alli buying a futon lol. so what did they spend? half an hour talking about? the tories, of course, in the company of dame andrea jenkyns, former conservative mp. take a listen. >> he'll come back, won't he? >> he'll come back, won't he? >> i don't think it's over for him. no. >> you don't think it's over? >> you don't think it's over? >> i still think boris was one of our better prime ministers. yes . yes. >> i see you selected the audience. you know, the people who don't like boris or conservatives. >> you can't just say you've selected the audience. you've got no evidence for that. no proof. >> it's just this isn't gb news.
