under the weather? a little bit worse for wear as we head into another rainy week? let us know. gbnews.com/win. see you later, paul >> see you later. top story this morning, a potential third assassination attempt on former american president donald trump was thwarted on saturday night. >> so local police have arrested an armed man. he was carrying multiple weapons as well as fake passports, and he was attempting to get into a trump rally in california. >> he's 49 years of age. he's from las vegas. his name is vern miller. he denied wanting to hurt the former president after being released on bail. >> well, this comes as the local county sheriff said the man in question was likely to be a sovereign citizen, which is somebody who they believe does not believe in government control . control. >> now we're joined now by american political strategist scottie nell hughes on this one. and scottie, i'm just i'm a bit confused about this. and if this guy was such a threat, why on earth is he out on bail? >> well, the question is , is >> well, the question is, is there really a threat? there's still a lot of questions on vim
6:06 am
miller and his arrest and what his intentions were as initial reports actually show him to be a trump supporter, a maga supporter, or at least someone who has followed around various conservatives taking pictures with them and posting. so a lot of questions remain about mr miller and his arrest. but i will say this this is the first time of the three attempted assassinations that we potentially know about where the sheriff outright came out and said almost immediately his name, his age, his address gave us more information to the pubuc us more information to the public than we've had in the last two assumed assassination attempts of president trump. you've also seen president trump take a different stance, where he praised secret service and law enforcement, and especially in the second assassination attempt, and how they're handung attempt, and how they're handling his security. that was something that we did not have. following the butler , following the butler, pennsylvania, rally. but i think the bigger picture in all of this, we are 21 days away from the presidential election in the united states. obviously, it is very tense. it is very emotional. and i think this just
6:07 am
shows how careful we need to be here in the united states, on both sides of the aisle of what is being said about the two candidates that are running for presidential office is obviously the american people are engaged and they're paying attention to what is going on in our country and what is being said by these politicians. >> do you think the fact that he has openly said he won't accept the result unless he wins? do you think that that is contributing to the kind of febrile tensions that are being experienced by americans? or do you think that this unprecedented level of threat towards him is to do with the capitol riots that we saw last week? what do you think is the reason behind this? if you can put a reason behind these sorts of things? >> well, i don't think you can put a lot of reasoning. i think it's a complete insane person to even think, to even take those types of steps towards any person, especially someone running for elected office. but i think some of the very dangerous rhetoric that we've seen on the left, i mean, even just recently, i was just looking at you had just on last week, msnbc , you had the week, msnbc, you had the commerce secretary come out and
6:08 am
actually say that we need to extend i think her exact words were, i want to make sure i get these correct, that we need to extinguish for good donald trump. and that's the biden—harris current commerce secretary saying this. you're having people in current office on the left kind of making light of the donald trump assassination attempts. the ones that we know are confirmed. and i think that's what's very dangerous and why you're seeing so many people right now having probably not thinking logically if they ever were before using common sense. >> now it's not going to go away. these sort of threats or suspicions of these , these sort suspicions of these, these sort of threats, i mean, must be very, very frightening . it now very, very frightening. it now looks as though wherever trump appears there,
