slash alerts. >> wow indeed, lewis mckenzie. now the chancellor's budget is just two weeks away and speculation continues to be rife at just what tax rises we could see in labour's first budget in 15 years. prime minister sir keir starmer earlier today failed to rule out a rise in employers national insurance, which the conservatives insist would break a manifesto commitment. meanwhile, mortgage rates have risen for the first time in three months, with nervous lenders prepare for the worst from rachel reeves announcement on october, the 30th. well, would this tax scrap be hypocritical? hypocritical of the chancellor? well, a video has emerged of rachel reeves lambasting the tories over their national insurance increase from back in 2021. >> despite all of their election promises to cut national insurance contributions, they're actually raising them against the strong advice of business

and trade unions. the conservative government's actions will make each new recruit more expensive and increase the costs to business. the decision to saddle employers and workers with the jobs tax takes money out of people's pockets. when our economic recovery is not yet established or secure and only adds to the pressure on businesses. >> and that's rachel reeves in 2021 briefing against the policy. she's about to introduce. meanwhile, the labour leader of the liberal democrats, daisy cooper, reacted to the prime minister's refusal to rule out a national insurance increase for employers in the budget. >> look, i think what's clear is that the conservative party has left an awful mess for the labour government to clear up, but we. liberal democrats are absolutely clear. the burden of cleaning up the conservative's mess should be borne by the big banks, the big oil and gas companies, the big tech companies, the big tech companies that have been making billions of pounds in profits. we should the burden of cleaning up this mess should not fall on our small businesses, which are
