live with charlie peters at the old bailey with the latest from of course, the shocking sara sharif murder trial. very very concerning. we'll be live soon from the old bailey. but first, here's your headlines with sophia wenzler. >> martin. thank you. it's 431. these are your headlines. a seven year old boy has died, and six people have been taken to hospital following an explosion in newcastle. drone footage shows the wreckage with roofs collapsed and debris strewn across the street. the blast, which took place just before 1:00 this morning, destroyed a house leaving six adults in hospital with varying injuries. residents are being told to keep doors and windows shut while road closures remain in place. an investigation is now underway into how the explosion happened. israel says it's seriously considering the united states concerns that a lack of

>> welcome back. it's 439. i'm martin daubney here on gb news. it's day three of the murder trial of sara sharif . and a trial of sara sharif. and a pathologist has been giving evidence in the court. and the jury evidence in the court. and the jury heard today that sara sharif had at least 70 new injuries when her body was found. an incredibly disturbing trial. and gb news national reporter charlie peters is at the old bailey for us now. live with the latest, charlie. bring us up to speed . us up to speed. >> well, martin, it was a disturbing day of evidence with the vast majority of the proceedings today being doctor nathaniel carey. the forensic pathologist in the witness stand, being cross—examined by the lead counsel for the prosecution, mr emlyn jones kc, and doctor carey

detailed, as you said, at least 70 different injuries that were new at the time of sara sharif's body being recovered on the 10th of august last year. this afternoon we also heard the conclusion of doctor carey's report. he said that a multiplicity of injuries led to the ten year old girl's death. he could not identify one single injury involved. we'll hear more evidence over the coming days from other expert forensic pathologists, and we also heard some evidence being put forward by doctor carey on behalf of the country's most pre—eminent neuropathologist. looking at the traumatic brain injuries that sara sharif had endured. he pointed to one that had happened at least 48 hours prior to death, and a separate incident where a lack of oxygen had contributed to her succumbing to death in her final days, he said that it was postural asphyxia.

thatis that it was postural asphyxia. that is the position her body was left in that was most likely attributed to that final brain injury rather than direct asphyxia, e.g. strangulation. so some very technical discussions taking place this afternoon, several hours of evidence involved in that. i would just like to read to you some of the conclusion that we heard from doctor carey. he said there was evidence of very widespread injury to the skin surface puncture wounds, abrasions, bruising, sub scalp to the brain. that was the haemorrhaging that we heard of . haemorrhaging that we heard of. and also extensive bruising from head to toe on sara sharif's body. well , yesterday at the body. well, yesterday at the trial at the old bailey, we also heard an 8.5 minute clip, which is the phone call that sara's father made to 999 when he landed in islamabad in pakistan, having fled the day after her body was found dead . body was found dead. >> to take that person who
