get ready britain, here we go. i expose a shameless labour mp who's trying to hide the fact he voted for pensioners to freeze to death this winter. next . to death this winter. next. >> patrick. thank you . it's just >> patrick. thank you. it's just gone. 9:00. these are your latest headlines from the gb newsroom. metropolitan police firearms officer martin blake has been cleared of the murder of chris kaba, who was fatally shot in south—east london on the 5th of september, 2022. mr blake, who is 40, stood trial at the old bailey after shooting the old bailey after shooting the 24 year old through the front windscreen of a car. the car had been used as a getaway vehicle in a shooting the previous evening, and was hemmed in by police officers after an officer recognised its registration number. mr blake told jurors he believed one of his colleagues was about to die,

and so he opened fire to stop the car. mr kabas family said in a statement today that the not guilty verdict leaves us with the deep pain of injustice, adding to the unbearable sorrow we have felt since chris was killed. and tonight, a protest against the verdict has taken place outside the old bailey, commissioner of the metropolitan police, sir mark rowley, said this in a statement this afternoon. >> over the past two years, sergeant blake has paid a huge personal and professional sacrifice and this has been an incredibly difficult time for him and his family , and he has him and his family, and he has acted with professionalism and dignity throughout . this case dignity throughout. this case has had an enormous impact on many. chris kabas family and friends continue to grieve the loss of a loved one, and today will be enormously difficult for them. >> elsewhere, the health secretary has said that this is a once in a generation opportunity to have a debate on the long term future of the nhs. speaking to gb news, katherine forster, wes streeting said that a national conversation about

the health service can put the focus back on community care. let's listen to what he had to say. >> the reason why this national conversation is so important is that while we're getting the nhs back on its feet and this is a once in a generation opportunity to have a real debate about the long term future of our nhs and we've come in as a government with a very clear sense of direction about what we want to achieve. we want to get care out of the hospital, into the community, the nhs, as much as a neighbourhood health service, as a national health service, and finally tonight, a senator confronted the king in australia's parliament earlier today, shouting this is not your land and you are not my king. >> the incident happened after his majesty finished an address at australia's parliament house on the second official day of his engagements in the country. lidia thorpe interrupted the ceremony in the capital city of canberra by shouting for about a minute before she was escorted away by security. you are genocidal. >> this is not your land. this is not your land. you are not my

kids. you are not our king. >> well, the ceremony was then concluded without any reference to the incident, and the royal couple proceeded to meet the pubuc couple proceeded to meet the public who waited outside the building to greet them. their majesties are on a six day tour of the country. they also visited the australian national botanic gardens this afternoon . botanic gardens this afternoon. it's the king's first visit to australia since becoming monarch. those are your latest gb news headlines. for now, i'm katie bowen. let's go back now to patrick for the very latest gb news direct to your smartphone. >> sign up to news alerts by scanning the qr code or go to gb news .com forward slash alerts . news .com forward slash alerts. >> i've got loads coming tonight , >> i've got loads coming tonight, including that sad death of a man behind bars who was sentenced for his role in the riots , asking whether or not riots, asking whether or not keir starmer should be held

accountable for that and much more. but i want to start with this because i think it's really, really important. so i can now expose a group of shameless labour mps who are trying to charity wash the fact that they voted to let thousands of vulnerable pensioners freeze to death this winter. they are barry gardiner of brent west, margaret mullin of dagenham and rainham, frank mcnally of coatbridge and bellshill , olivia coatbridge and bellshill, olivia blake and sheffield hallam. sarah champion , of rotherham and sarah champion, of rotherham and fabian hamilton, leeds north east also mark sewards, the mp for leeds south west, and morley clive betts of sheffield south and derek twigg of widnes and halewood. now there are others like hilary benn, who abstained on that vote, but all of them voted to take the winter fuel payment away from pensioners, despite the fact that labour's own risk assessment said 4000 people could die. they voted to consign people in their 80s and 90s to a miserable death this winter. they voted so that brave

military veterans will be shivering in their living rooms . shivering in their living rooms. they voted so that people who need oxygen tanks to breathe might not be able to turn them on because their energy bills will be too high. but now i can reveal that they are trying to absolve themselves of this utter disgrace by being age uk champions. local residents were sent an email like this one, saying i'm delighted to say that your mp, mark sewards is now an aids champion. he says that he'll be standing up for old people in parliament, despite the fact that he voted for the stripping of the winter fuel payment. now one man raised this with age uk, saying how can you let them try to cleanse their reputation like this? so here's the response . your mp voted for the response. your mp voted for the response. your mp voted for the change to the winter fuel payment, although you might be disappointed by this with a strong majority and the threat of losing the whip, some mps felt that they had to vote with the government in order to stay in the party and therefore be

able to influence policy change. well, hang on a minute. where's your spine? where's your morals ? your spine? where's your morals? apparently they're definitely keeping the pressure on the chancellor and the treasury. sorry, but what a load of rubbish. all right, now, when you go to age uk's website, the first thing you see is this. a petition to save the winter fuel payment for struggling pensioners. okay. have those lily livered aged champions signed that petition. how can they? how can they when they voted for the cut? now we have been to age uk to ask them how on earth they could allow various labour mps to try to absolve themselves for voting for something that will, frankly, kill the elderly. we have no reply. we've also been to mark stuart mp to ask him whether or not he's taking the mickey with this. he hasn't replied either. presumably he's too busy trying and failing to be able to look himself in the mirror. this is charity washing. this is orwellian, actually.

physically voting to essentially pass a death sentence on old people because you're too afraid of losing the party whip, but justifying it by saying, don't worry, i'm now an age champion . worry, i'm now an age champion. well, your elderly constituents needed you and you failed them. in my view, you are weak and pathetic and you should be ashamed of yourselves. the thing is, i don't think these mps care about the elderly, but i know that you do. and that is why i've got a fundraiser for a different charity. it's called friends of the elderly, and we have a target of £260,000. and thanks to you, we have already got over 230 grand. so thank you, thank you, thank you. you can go to justgiving.com forward slash page forward slash. save our seniors now to donate. now all of that money goes to friends of the elderly so they can give grants to old people who are going to freeze in their own homes this winter, who can't pay own homes this winter, who can't pay utility bills, who can't afford to feed themselves, who

can't afford a taxi to a doctor's appointment. that's where your money is going. now. on saturday, i will be climbing for an hour and a half to get to the top of a place called stickle tarn in the lake district , stickle tarn in the lake district, and i'm going to plonk myself right in the middle of that freezing cold tarn and see how long i can last to raise awareness for our greatest generation who've been treated like dirt. it will be a proper challenge. in fact, having a look at the weather forecast, the wind chill factor at that time on saturday is going to be minus one, so it will be nippy. but unlike those mps, i do really care. and i know that but unlike those mps, i do real
