11:05 pm
crack on, we don't have a live audience. that was the joke. >> come on, lewis, first he's making a joke on the counter. then now you're making a joke. >> yeah. >> yeah. >> strange that you're the one who's always gone on. it's a comedy show now. >> it's about the budget and things get real. >> look who's not a sense of humour anymore. you just want to get straight into it and talk about that budget, don't you? lewis, that capital gains tax because you're wealthy, you own property. >> lewis schaffer is the funny one on the show. oh free speech. >> you can say whatever you want, even if it's not true. first things first. hot off the press. let's crank through the front pages. we can start with the daily telegraph . goes with the daily telegraph. goes with nightmare on downing street. see if you can spot a theme here. the sun. at least she kept it down at the pump. kittens. good pun.the down at the pump. kittens. good pun. the eye reeves. great £40 billion tax gamble. the guardian goes with return of tax and spend.the goes with return of tax and spend. the daily express halloween horror show and the daily star. different story. ghosts are dying out. ooh! the guardian goes with. okay , let's guardian goes with. okay, let's get into the closer look here.
11:06 pm
the guardian will go to josh and find out what's all over their front cover. yeah. return of tax and spend. >> and this is a picture of rachel louise. >> and she's a chancellor and a woman. yeah. yep. and, yeah, they're talking about 40 billion in tax increases. so the guardian has sort of their spin on it because every paper is pretty much doing the same story. their spin on it is that pubuc story. their spin on it is that public services are going to get an injection of cash. schools and the nhs and also like employees will get some more money. so they're saying, look, this is good. yeah. let's have a look at what the other papers think that's positive. i did think that's positive. i did think the headline on the guardian literally could be a headune guardian literally could be a headline from other newspapers for the guardian . return of tax for the guardian. return of tax and spend as a compliment. yes. they're happy. yeah. the same words on the front page of the express would be, return of tax and spend. yeah. so it's all. i mean, everyone's going to do whatever they want with the budget. everyone's going to say what they want to say about the
11:07 pm
budget to fit whatever their ideological need is. yeah, it's fun, isn't it ? ideological need is. yeah, it's fun, isn't it? but. and we're not really going to see there are some things that make sense and some things that seem harsh. we can see some things straight away. louis, i'll ask this one to you. so it's a budget that's all about growth. obr lowers its growth expectations already. that's bad news, isn't it? >> well, i mean, the whole thing is anti—american, okay? it's just the idea of spending, of spending money. and it's like i spending money. and it's like i spend $70 billion a year more money. it's like that old joke, you know, $1 billion here, $1 billion thereafter. while you're talking about real money, i think it's the end of britain. really. there's no money. the money was spent over this covid thing. the money's been spent with all the millions of thousands and millions of people coming into the country legally and illegally. >> so i don't know where it does feel a bit painful when they're kind of going, oh, we're raising all this money, and it's just paying all this money, and it's just paying off this extra debt that some people say exists. and some people say the thing. >> the thing. can i just say
11:08 pm
what the thing about the about the, the labour is , is that and the, the labour is, is that and i was down at labour politics at the southwark, which is my borough is they have this belief that the tories were not giving them money and they so they've been promised money. labour believes there's money out there for them to have and then they get elected and they realise there's no money for them to have and to give out to their people. >> so they arguably they have given out money. >> the money was, but right. there was more money that wasn't being given out that could have been given out, but it wasn't given out. and now they're thinking, well, we're going to have to raise taxes in order to get, get, get our money. yeah. >> well, that's that's the guardian vibe of it. >> well, that's that's the guardian vibe of it . and they've guardian vibe of it. and they've got a sort of defiant looking chancellor. she's just like she's got, she's just very like, here's my here it is. it's the first budget done by a woman. it's a woman. includes lots of spending. sexy woman. probably on i'd say she's a sexy woman. the. let's have a look . yeah
