because i think you should . because i think you should. maybe she'll comment. the biggest tax raising budget in decades. first, let's get the news with tatiana sanchez. >> andrew. miriam, thank you very much. the top stories. well, the chancellor will face further questions today about her budget after announcing £40 billion a yearin after announcing £40 billion a year in extra taxes to pour money into schools, hospitals, transport and housing. rachel reevesis transport and housing. rachel reeves is expected to make a visit related to the budget, with sir keir starmer the prime minister, as mps debate the measures in the commons, ms reeves said labour's first budget since 2010 would be a one off to. she said wipe the slate clean. but the head of the institute for fiscal studies warned more tax rises could come if labour's planned growth does not materialise. a key measure introduced by reeves was a rise introduced by reeves was a rise in employers national insurance contributions from 13.8% to 15%. she also announced an increase

valencia and beyond. a 71 year old british man has been killed in the floods. torrential rain swept through towns , dragging swept through towns, dragging cars, downing bridges and leaving people trapped in flood waters, some hanging onto trees. spain's prime minister, pedro sanchez, has declared three days of national mourning as the extreme conditions continue restricting some rescue efforts. the death toll is feared to climb as there are many missing people. that's according to the spanish government . and from spanish government. and from today, safe access zones will be introduced to create a 150 metre wide area outside abortion clinics to stop anti—abortion campaigners from handing out leaflets, holding vigils and sharing graphic images to women near the sites. the protection areas will be introduced outside all abortion clinics in england and wales to ensure women seeking abortion services will be better protected from harassment or distress. the changes were made possible by

is raise taxes on private schools and fuel companies, fossil fuel companies. and yet employers have been hit with the biggest tax. >> i think they promised £8 billion of tax rises would be enough to fund their spending plans. but this is non—dom 2 billion private schools and fossil fuel companies. >> that was it. >> that was it. >> that's right. and i think the national insurance for employers, i mean it sounds like it doesn't affect employees, but of course it does because those increases are always going to be passed on. and i think the chancellor has admitted them herself this morning. what it's going to do to wages. but i think the big story for me is the national debt and the fact that the debt is going to keep growing and growing because the government's still going to be spending billions of pounds more than it's getting in. and of course, what this does is it just pushes up inflation because more and more money enters the economy. but what i found this morning, this chart of inflation, since 1750 on the left there inflation wasn't really a thing until the 1940s and then spiked from the 1970s when government started printing money and making all of our

money and making all of our money worth worth less. they call it quantitative easing. yeah, well, it's just printing money. it is, but that's what that is. the biggest pressure on people's incomes is inflation. and it's just going to go up and up sadly. >> and of course, we thought interest rates would come down next month. i'm not so sure that's going to happen in december. i'm not so sure that will happen now. so she's unveiled £40 billion in tax rises. labour's first budget in 15 years. and it was meant and the rabbit out of the hat. actually i did get that right yesterday. i predicted that they would keep the they would freeze fuel duty. so that was one small concession and a penny a penny off your pint. oh, let's all go down the pub. yeah. >> i mean, it isn't worth much, but it is good news for pubs because they have been struggling so much after covid and alcohol duty on wine. you buy in the in the supermarket is going up, but pubs get to save the money. so i think that's probably good news. >> well, let's speak to the founder of the city pub group, clive watson, and see what he thinks about it. clive. morning to you. the hospitality industry has had a rough old time in the last few years, not least
