large numbers of people still missing. we're on the scene live . missing. we're on the scene live. now. it's been some time since the budget was announced around this time yesterday. i've got it here in front of me. it's a hefty red book, but emily, you're talking to people in county durham about what it means for people on the ground . means for people on the ground. >> yes, i absolutely am. and i've got a bit of a news update for you now. we spoke to billy pounden for you now. we spoke to billy pounder, who's a pensioner living here in county durham in stanley, and he's concerned about losing the winter fuel payment and also about what this budget means for his pension as well. well, since then, we've heard that the government have actually been listening and the work and pensions are on to him to see what they can do to try and help him with all of those pages, to get all of the difficulties in trying to apply for various things here and

there. so it does sound as though what we're doing here is having an impact. >> goodness me, that is the positive power of gb news on display there in county durham. but emily, you're going to be to talking people throughout the programme, throughout the day. what's your initial sort of feeling of how this budget has gone down.7 >> yeah, it's very interesting. we're going to be speaking to gordon in a little bit. he's worked all his life. he's now living here. he's coming up to retirement age and he talking about the budget. he said it went on and on and on. and he's not convinced that the government were honest when they said they weren't going to be taxing working people. he thinks that those prices in the shops, those prices in the restaurants, pnces those prices in the restaurants, prices everywhere are going to be going up , prices everywhere are going to be going up, up, up as a result of this budget. >> goodness me. well, look forward to hearing from gordon and everyone else that you're speaking to throughout the show. and of course, everyone watching . and of course, everyone watching. please do send in your comments and visit gbnews.com/yoursay to do so. really keen to hear what you have to say on this. all

that to come a packed show after news headlines . news headlines. >> tom thank you. the top stories while rachel reeves will face further questions about her budget after announcing £40 billion a year in extra taxes to pour money into schools, hospitals, transport and housing, the chancellor is expected to make a visit related to the budget today with sir keir starmer as mps debate the measures in the commons. mr reeves said labour's first budget since 2010 would be a one off to wipe the slate clean. but the head of the institute for fiscal studies warned more tax rises could come if labour's planned growth does not materialise. a key measure introduced by reeves was a rise introduced by reeves was a rise in employers national insurance contributions to 15%. she also announced an increase in capital gains tax, a freeze on fuel duty next year and the introduction of vat on private school fees from january. reeves also admitted that tax rises in the

budget are likely to hit workers in the pocket with lower pay rises. shadow chancellor jeremy hunt has announced today. this morning he will step down once a new tory leader is elected. he told gb news yesterday was a very sad day for ordinary families. >> rachel reeves promised us 30 times this year before the election that she wouldn't increase taxes outside what was increase taxes outside what was in the labour manifesto. she even said she wanted to bring down taxes. and i think many people this morning are waking up feeling utterly betrayed that we've had the biggest tax raising budget in history. this is actually the last interview i'll be giving you as either chancellor or shadow chancellor, because i'll be stepping back from the shadow cabinet for the next few years at least. >> elsewhere , rescue efforts >> elsewhere, rescue efforts continue in spain as spain endures its worst flooding disaster in decades, with at least 95 people confirmed dead and dozens more missing after huge rains that swept the eastern province of valencia and

beyond. a 71 year old british man has also been killed in those floods. torrential rain swept through towns , dragging swept through towns, dragging cars, downing bridges and leaving people trapped in flood waters, some hanging onto trees. spain's prime minister, pedro sanchez, has declared three days of national mourning as the extreme conditions continue, restricting some rescue efforts. the government says the death toll is feared to climb as there are many missing people . and are many missing people. and from today, safe access zones will be introduced to create 150 metre wide area outside abortion clinics to stop anti—abortion campaigners from handing out leaflets, holding vigils and showing graphic images to women near the sites. the protection areas will be introduced outside all abortion clinics in england and wales , to ensure women and wales, to ensure women seeking abortion services will be better protected from harassment or distress. the changes were made possible by the passage of a bill a year and a half ago, but the debate inside parliament was so heated ,
