will take place on the 19th of this month. fears have grown that labour's tax and spend budget will fail to boost growth , budget will fail to boost growth, with bonds, shares and the value of the pound all falling well. farmer clive bailey had this to say to martin daubney earlier on they're talking about potentially strike action, not letting food leave the farm. >> we all know how just in time type supply chains work now how fragile they can be. i think that could very easily lead to the kind of panic buying that we saw with fuel, and we saw with toilet roll, empty shelves and, you know , yeah, i think most you know, yeah, i think most people could go longer without toilet roll than they can without food, can't they .7 without food, can't they? >> well, the secretary of state for rural affairs, steve reed, has accused the wealthy of buying up huge estates to avoid paying buying up huge estates to avoid paying tax before adding that small family farms will be protected. the chancellor also defended her budget today , defended her budget today, reform uk and fiscal stability are the number one priorities for this government and that's what we achieved in the budget on wednesday, a robust set of
3:02 am
fiscal rules within a framework which gets debt down as our share of the economy, but crucially , within three years, crucially, within three years, something the previous government never achieved . a government never achieved. a video of the moment that police boarded a plane and detained sara sharif's alleged killers has been played in court, with the ten year old stepmother telling officers in the video i think you're looking for us. three of sara's relatives fled to pakistan the day after sara died at the family home in woking, surrey, on the 8th of august last year. ten year old sara had suffered dozens of injuries , including burns and injuries, including burns and human bite marks, in what the prosecution allege was a campaign of abuse culminating in her death. all three defendants have denied murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. the trial at the old bailey continues and finally, ahead of the new leader of the conservative party being announced tomorrow morning, the financial times is reporting that james cleverly won't sit on the front bench for the new

leader. mr cleverly was one of the six candidates initially in the six candidates initially in the contest. he has now reportedly said he will return to the backbenches when robert jenrick or kemi badenoch take up the role . the new tory leader is the role. the new tory leader is set to be announced at around 11 am. tomorrow morning, and you a.m. tomorrow morning, and you can watch all of that unfold here on gb news. can watch all of that unfold here on gb news . those can watch all of that unfold here on gb news. those are can watch all of that unfold here on gb news . those are the here on gb news. those are the latest gb news headlines. let's go back to patrick for the very latest gb news direct to your smartphone. >> sign up to news alerts by scanning the qr code, or go to gb news .com forward slash alerts . alerts. >> welcome along! if farmers were as heartless as junior doctors, they'd go on strike and use their leverage to starve starmer into submission. here were the scenes from continental europe, when farmers felt pushed to the brink .
3:04 am
to the brink. there we go. just spraying manure all over government buildings. would anyone really blame farmers if they do actually spray a load of manure? all over the treasury? i mean, here's rachel reeves trying to justify the farm grab. >> april 2026. the first £1 million of combined business and agricultural assets will continue to attract no inheritance tax at all. but for assets over £1 million, inheritance tax will apply with a 50% relief at an effective rate of 20%. this will ensure that we continue to protect small family farms. >> according to labour, farmers must not be working people because their taxes have definitely gone up . the irony is definitely gone up. the irony is this budget was delivered by a chancellor who seemingly lied on her cv by pretending to be an economist, when she actually worked in the complaints

department at halifax bank of scotland, a business secretary who has never had a job, a deputy prime minister who wouldn't be able to get a job, a foreign secretary who will soon be out of a job, and a minister for the environment and rural affairs, who disappeared off to colombia to talk about climate change. instead of meeting with the national farmers union. is it any wonder that labour hate anyone who's been able to accumulate land, wealth and assets? are they just jealous that they're not good enough to do that themselves? politics used to be considered show business for ugly people, but now it's a salary for people who would be sacked if they worked in the private sector. but this attack on british farmers is an attack on british farmers is an attack on british culture. the beautiful patchwork quilt of rural land that you see when you fly over britain is looked after primarily by hard working white british nuclear families. and let's be honest, under labour, they're at the back of the queue, aren't they? if there are any other political sorry policy that disproportionately affected this many people of a specific ethnic background, the same
3:06 am
labour mps who are cheering this on now will be crying racism , on now will be crying racism, and they're being hammered so we can subsidise the lives of people who can't get off their backsides. the total cost of sickness benefits is now going to be £100 billion a year. the message from labour is clear, isn't it? if you're a hard working british farmer, they hate you. if you're an illegal immigrant or someone on the dole, they love you. let's get the thoughts from our panel this evening . political commentator evening. political commentator alex armstrong. we've got communications manager at the institute of economic affairs, reem ibrahim, and former labour mp lloyd russell—moyle. and, alex, i'll start with you. i actually do wonder if there's a case to be set for this farm grab being a little bit racist. i mean, disproportionately affects the white nuclear family, doesn't it? >> well, it's not unusual for labour to target the traditional engush labour to target the traditional english culture, is it? i mean, look at what starmer is proposing with the pubs. and even though he might even be u—turning on that, patrick, i think the reality is, is that he's proposing for the pubs. well, he was going to he's going to be paying the smugglers. >> i thought he's, he's reduced
3:07 am
tax so we can enjoy our one by one penny. >> one penny. what is that, 99. what is that, 9.99 a pint in england? is it in london? especially in london anyway. but i think you've got a point, patrick. and i think farmers have disproportionately been affected. you've only got to watch jeremy clarkson's fantastic amazon show to see he is very how many regulations and laws are, are really , really laws are, are really, really hurting farmland. and this land grab is just more nonsense from the labour party, who doesn't seem to have a clue what his economic policy is. do we want to have a country where we can grow our own food and be sustainable, or do we want to outsource it and import all that food and, and our, our, our climate change fumes and pollution? >> so i somewhat disagree with you, alex, on importing of different agricultural goods. i think that it's good that we import things. i think that actually if we can't produce things in the united kingdom, we should be importing them. however , let's call inheritance however, let's call inheritance tax what it actually is. it's a death tax. it effectively means that when that family member dies, they are being stolen from by the government. and where is that money going? we've seen rachel reeves this week at the
3:08 am
budget announcement. spend so much more money on the national health service, on various different public sector outcomes. and what are we getting from it, patrick? what are we getting? are we getting better public services? are we getting shorter waiting lists? no, we are spending huge amounts of money in what is effectively a bureaucratic black hole. >> okay, look, if you look at farmers, i mean,
