work. we can invest in new capabilities and enhanced powers to smash them. so we're giving our new border security command an additional £75 million of new funding, on top of the £75 million we've already committed. this will support a new organised immigration, crime, intelligence unit, hundreds of new investigators and intelligence officers backed by state of the art technology farmers across england have been left worried for their future after the completely unfair change to inheritance tax for farms. >> that's according to the national farmers union, nfu president tom bradshaw made the comments after meeting with environment secretary steve reed today to discuss the farmers fury over rachel reeves inheritance tax rate, dubbed the tractor tax, it was announced in

forward slash alerts. >> thank you sophia. we've got loads to get our teeth into , so loads to get our teeth into, so let's get cracking. start with this. the prime minister is throwing yet more money at his new border command a further £75 million, in fact, was confirmed today as he sets his sights once again on ending the small boats crisis. the government intend to give border security forces enhanced powers in order to. well, we've heard all this before. he wants to smash the gangs. and this comes as gb news understands that the home office is looking to extend raf wethersfield to house more migrants , despite vowing to migrants, despite vowing to close it down when they win the election back in july. now we spent £6 million on interpol today , £75 million more on the today, £75 million more on the border security command , and border security command, and that's £81 million. well, by the government's own data, that's less than what they spend in 20 days on asylum seeker hotels. now, in my opinion , this is not now, in my opinion, this is not a serious amount of money. it's
12:05 am
not a serious government, and it's not a serious solution to a serious, serious problem. let's join now with robert bates, who's the research director for the centre for migration control. see what he makes of it. rob, always a pleasure. £81 million. sounds like a lot of money, but it's a drop in the ocean . literally, is it not.7 ocean. literally, is it not.7 >> yeah. i don't even think it sounds like a lot of money at this point. you know, the figures that are bandied around on the asylum issue , it makes it on the asylum issue, it makes it look incredibly small fry. you know, we know we spend £6 billion every single year on having to house these individuals in accommodation and feed them and provide them with round the clock services. so i think what was actually being put on the table today is an incredibly small offering. and it's, you know, we're four months now into this labour government and this is already the second or third attempt we've seen from keir starmer to reset his strategy to clamp down on the people smugglers. and the fact of the matter is that the reason he's got himself into such trouble is that he has
12:06 am
removed the one semblance of the plan that the conservatives put forward that would have actually worked to stymie the flows of people looking to break into britain. it's all very well and good going after people smugglers, but as we all know , smugglers, but as we all know, you clamp down on one load of people smugglers and another group will pop up just as quickly. so i think he's got himself into a real bind with his rhetoric, and i really don't see where we actually go from here, because the numbers certainly aren't going to abate. >> well, the numbers actually are astonishing. the latest figure we had today from mark white, our homeland security advisor, 31,036 arrivals by small boat this year. we've still got a couple of good months weather ahead of us as well. yet rob and that 1600 up year on year. so the gangs aren't listening. no one seems to be getting the memo that they're going to be imminently smashed. and there's another point for you, rob , how on earth point for you, rob, how on earth can we treat people smugglers like rioters in britain and fast track them to jail? if they're not in britain? how can we get a bloke from turkey or syria or afghanistan or even france and get them into this country?
12:07 am
where is the first person on television? in a chair? look, here's the mr big. here's someone that we've caught . no someone that we've caught. no one.the someone that we've caught. no one. the chasing shadows. >> no, it's a great point. and i think that ultimately does show why keir starmer has dived headfirst into this idea of reintegrating britain into a whole manner of european projects. he's recognised that his own strategy isn't actually something that britain can achieve on its own. we can achieve on its own. we can achieve a deterrent on our own. we can very easily achieve a deterrent on our own by committing to a serious programme of deporting those that have entered our country illegally. but we can't actually tackle those that are operating in germany or bulgaria without the cooperation of other people. so he's actually put himself in a weaker position by going down this route . and, you know, i was this route. and, you know, i was watching his speech earlier today and i was kind of thinking, you know, he doesn't seem to really be recognising what this issue actually is. he's talking a lot of global justice and the need to clamp down on those on these people for humanitarian reasons. but what about the national interest? what about this huge, huge security crisis that is
12:08 am
being presented by having tens of thousands of young males, undocumented young males coming into the uk every year? there wasn't one mention of that. from what i could make out. >> yeah. and rob bates, we're going to speak to nigel farage in a short while. we've just been told he's with president elect donald trump earlier on in nonh elect donald trump earlier on in north carolina. donald trump said, right. america has been invaded. said, right. america has been invaded . we've got open borders, invaded. we've got open borders, 21 million. he said, is the number of those who crossed the border from mexico. i've got a solution, he said. 25% tariffs on everything, every single thing that america imports from mexico until the mexicans put their army on their border and stop the invasion. wouldn't it be wonderful to suggest something so radical to macron? stop this problem at the french coast? but no, instead we give them half £1 billion every year and the numbers are getting w0 i'se. woi'se. >> worse. >> yeah. and of course, we saw the tory leadership contender robert jenrick was talking in quite similar terms during the campaign.
