tonight's headlines with sophia wenzler . wenzler. >> good evening. i'm sophia wenzler with your headlines at 11:00. terminally ill adults who are expected to die within six months would be able to request assistance to end their own life under a proposed assisted dying legislation. but someone with a disability or mental health issue will not be eligible for assisted dying under the plans published in the end of life bill. labour mp kim leadbeater, who has put forward the bill, said it includes the strictest safeguards anywhere in the world. however, the bill has raised some concerns that people could feel pressured into ending their lives. mps will have their first vote on the proposals on the 29th of november. the prime minister has refused to give his backing to the archbishop of canterbury over his handling of child abuse claims. sir keir starmer said it was a matter for

the church. as pressure grows for justin welby to stand down, it comes after a report into the suspected abuse of over 100 children by a well—known barrister associated with the church of england. the report also claims that the institution had played a role in covering up the accusations. when details initially came to light in 2013. now boris johnson has told gb news that sir keir starmer is not doing enough to stop foreign criminals in the uk. the former prime minister says it is time to review the echr, and says the rwanda plan would have worked. it comes as the number of small boat migrant crossings in the engush boat migrant crossings in the english channel is likely to hit 40,000 by the end of the year. that's according to maritime security sources , as almost security sources, as almost 33,000 have now made the illegal journey so far this year. a home office spokesman said we will stop at nothing to bring the people smuggling gangs to justice, but boris johnson has
2:03 am
given patrick christys his thoughts . thoughts. >> i think i really believe that would have been a huge deterrent to illegal migration. it would have been a huge deterrent. it might be time to review the echr, the european convention on human rights , because i think human rights, because i think sometimes it is being applied in a way that is anti—democratic and that is that is stopping the removal of people who plainly need to be removed. >> and gary lineker is set to leave his role presenting match of the day at the end of the season. the sun newspaper is reporting the former england striker will then leave the bbc after fronting the corporation's coverage of the 2026 world cup in the us, mexico and canada . in the us, mexico and canada. those are the latest gb news headlines. now it's time for headliners for the very latest gb news direct to your smartphone, sign up to news alerts by scanning the qr code or go to gb news .com forward

slash alerts . slash alerts. >> hello and welcome to headliners, your first look at tomorrow's top stories with three comedians. i'm joined tonight by bruce devlin and leo kearse. how are we gentlemen. >> i'm good thanks. how are you. >> i'm good thanks. how are you. >> yeah i'm very well thanks. yeah. you're very you're looking quite north korean in that outfit. >> do you think you've got the. yeah . yeah. >> i'm going to assume you mean very, very thin. okay, before we move on, let's have a look at tuesday's front pages. we're starting with the daily mail. well, we must quit after failing to act on abuse, says bishop. the daily telegraph leads with pressure mounts on welby to resign. the eye has water. bills must rise to tackle illegal sewage spills. minister tells uk pubuc sewage spills. minister tells uk public and the independent has bishop's . bishop joins call for bishop's. bishop joins call for welby to quit over abuse

scandal. the metro has time to go archbishop and finally the daily star has the referees. a silly sausage nose var front pages. okay, let's have a closer look at those, starting with the daily mail, please. >> leo. yeah. so things aren't looking good for justin welby, who's the archbishop of canterbury, which makes him the head of the church of england, i believe. so it says welby must quit after failing to act on abuse , says bishops. this is abuse, says bishops. this is a senior bishop in the church of england who's called for him to resign. this is bishop of newcastle, helen—ann hartley , newcastle, helen—ann hartley, who's described justin welby's position as untenable and claimed the church was in danger of losing complete credibility. just before christmas, as well . just before christmas, as well. this is following a report into a barrister who's thought to have been the most prolific serial abuser to be associated with the church. this is child sexual abuse. basically, he's dead now. this guy called john smythe, or smith, thought to have abused as many as 130 boys and young men in the uk and in
2:06 am
africa because they sort of moved him around. it's the classic sort of way of dealing with the issue by pretending it doesn't exist, not addressing it, and then just moving the offender to somewhere he can offender to somewhere he can offend , you know, with, with, offend, you know, with, with, you know, people who haven't accused him yet. >> it's staggering, isn't it.7 the naivety, the idea that this guy would have stopped when you moved him. and i have to say, i've got absolutely no sympathy with this whatsoever. and welby is talking about the fact that he didn't personally, he personally failed to ensure it was energetically investigated. yeah. there's no other way to deal with child abuse, is there? you don't there's no there's no mild in my opinion. i mean, say your own ideas. >> no, no no no, i completely agree with you. >> middle ground. >> middle ground. >> what i do think is appalling is the guy is dead and can't face any, you know, reparations or, you know, legal action, that kind of thing. >> so to have done that, it's a >> soto have done that, it's a bit like, really, how do you sleep at night? >> and you should go and never mind an energetic investigation. i'd settle for just mind an energetic investigation. i'd settle forjust a half hearted, lazy investigation. just something rather than
2:07 am
ignonng just something rather than ignoring the issue and letting it continue. >> exactly. to have heard any of it and not done a thing. rot in hell. yeah . hell. yeah. >> and also, this isn't the. this isn't the first child sex abuse case that justin welby has been associated with. so when he was dean of liverpool, there was somebody called canon john roberts who ended up being jailed for his abuse , and justin jailed for his abuse, and justin welby, when he was the dean of liverpool , took the side of the liverpool, took the side of the abuser and banned the accuser, banned one of the victims from the from the cathedral, which is just i mean that's insane. >> so i think i think there's no balance on this. it's time for him to go. bye bye. bye bye, justin welby. okay, let's move on and have a look at the sun, please, bruce. >> the sun now , this is gary >> the sun now, this is gary lineker is going to be leaving match of the day, which is a programme i love. i'm always for home that. and sportscene. ehm. so he's going to quit the world cup and i don't know what's happening with his crisps. i don't know if he's still going
2:08 am
to be eating his crisps because i think that's where he makes most of his money. that and podcasts in america. yeah, but do you don't like him do you? >> i don't know , i think a lot >> i don't know, i think a lot of people have got this sort of, you know, visceral, instinctual hate hate of gary lineker. i'm here to just reassure you that you're completely correct, even if you don't know the full details . if you don't know the full details. he's a he's a terrible man. he was taken to court by hmrc for nearly £5 million of unpaid tax , and he wangled out unpaid tax, and he wangled out of it one of the reasons he he got off the hook for that was he said that his tweets, his nauseating virtue signalling tweets were proof that he wasn't just he wasn't a regular employee of the bbc, he was this sort of , you know, political sort of, you know, political firebrand who just does bbc stuff on the side. so he wasn't a didn't need to be treated as an employee. he's more of a political activist. >> well, this is it, isn't it? and finally, we'll be able to find out what he really thinks about the major issues of the day once he leaves the bbc. and day once he
