ambitious and that's measured not by telling people what to do. it's measured by making sure that we get to clean power by 2030. that's the single most important target on the way to the emissions , and that will the emissions, and that will bnng the emissions, and that will bring with it lower bills for people, for their energy. it will give them independence so that tyrants like putin can't put his boot on our throat, causing all sorts of difficulties for our energy bills. and it comes with the next generation of jobs. >> the pm. the pm has refused to give his backing to the archbishop of canterbury over his handling of the child abuse claims. sir keir starmer said it was a matter for the church as pressure grows for justin welby to stand down. it comes after a report into the speculated abuse of over 100 children by a well—known barrister, associated with the church of england. the report also claims that the institution had played a role in covering up the accusations. when details initially came to

light in 2013. a once a day pill that could help tens of thousands of people giving up cigarettes and prevent thousands of smoking related deaths each yean of smoking related deaths each year, will be rolled out on the nhs. the pill works by tackling nicotine cravings and also helps with withdrawal symptoms such as irritability and trouble sleeping. official estimates say it could help up to 85,000 people give up smoking over the next five years, as well as prevent up to 9500 smoking related deaths . and finally, related deaths. and finally, gary lineker is set to leave his role presenting match of the day at the end of the season. the sun, who reported this story, initially say the presenter will leave the bbc after heading the coverage of the 2026 world cup. lineker was the bbc's highest paid on air talent for seven consecutive years. his departure is expected to be announced officially by the bbc later on

smith one of the most sort of extreme sex abusers in the church of england, to continue his abuse over a number of years. so what happened was john smith, since back in the early 80s has been had been abusing young boys and this abuse took the form of really extreme, horrible beatings. in 1981, when justin welby was first made a priest , he heard justin welby was first made a priest, he heard on the grapevine that one of the boys who was who was under the care of john smith, had reported him to another teacher, saying that he was not a very nice man. welby was made aware of this, and at the time didn't do anything about it. now that on its own might well be forgivable, it was a second hand information that the archbishop had received from a young boy. but then in 2013, decades and decades on, welby was informed that a report had been made

about john smith . but the about john smith. but the archbishop of canterbury chose to not look into it. now the archbishop claims that this was a lack of curiosity. he has apologised, but he said that he wasn't trying to cover it up . he wasn't trying to cover it up. he just sort of didn't properly look into it . just sort of didn't properly look into it. is that just sort of didn't properly look into it . is that position look into it. is that position tenable? he was informed of the horrific nature of these crimes back in 2013, and because he chose to not look into it properly, john smith wasn't properly, john smith wasn't properly investigated. it wasn't until 2018 that hampshire police began an investigation into john smith, and he ended up dying later that year. so he was never brought to justice for his crimes. and justin welby's detractors, of which there are now quite a lot, say that that responsibility rests with the archbishop of canterbury . now, archbishop of canterbury. now, what's happening with with his his position? last week, the archbishop said that he had thought long and hard about resigning, but had decided not to. it looked as though that

position was going to stand until really late last night, early this morning, when one bishop, the bishop of newcastle , bishop, the bishop of newcastle, several very senior priests in the church of england and lots of john smith's victims, actually have now come forward and said that they would like to see welby resign. meanwhile, keir starmer, the prime minister, is refusing to back the archbishop of canterbury. he says it is just a matter for the church now. i mean the, the scale of this scandal, it does bear just repeating. john smith abused 130 boys and lots of people are arguing that it is because of welby's actions. welby's negligence, if you like , welby's negligence, if you like, that he was not
