managers, but too few with the right skills and capabilities. and let me tell you, that is not the most convenient conclusion for a politician to receive. i could be no more popular than announce the sacking of lots of managers, but that would not be the right thing to do. and i'm not, and i am to prepared make an unpopular argument with the pubuc an unpopular argument with the public about the value of good leaders . leaders. >> right. so there you go. league tables and things like that.is league tables and things like that. is this the answer that we've all been waiting for, jacqueline? >> well, it's a bit like deja vu. i think we've been talking about league tables and whatever over the last 20 years. they haven't made a great deal of difference. the problem is with the nhs, that's not the front line medics. i know a number of them and they are absolutely brilliant. it's the entire structure and it needs. i have advocated for a long time that we need to look at something like we have in australia or across across europe, and that's across across europe, and that's a sort of a public private type

system . the nhs employs 1.4 system. the nhs employs 1.4 million people. we know that there are roughly three quarters of a million. our administrators , of a million. our administrators, administrators and managers. and of course, you've got to have admin people. but it appears people are sort of promoted from within. there is nepotism and there are people promoted to jobs where really they don't have the experience . when you have the experience. when you are running something the size of a hospital and what has lacked, i think over the years it is a reactionary service rather than looking, you know , rather than looking, you know, to see what they can prevent. and in addition, there's issues when you people do try and raise issues about shortcomings and patient care. then we have the issue over whistleblowers. so, chris, i agree with a lot of what the baroness said. >> preventative medicine is definitely something we need more of. it's only really dental care that we take preventative care that we take preventative care of, don't we, that we try to brush our teeth? >> well, if you can get into a

dentist, yeah, you're right. >> but i remember in lockdown thursday nights we were out clapping for carers. we recognised the value of our nhs. this feels a little bit tone deaf to me that an nhs that has kept us alive during the most difficult times in our history is now being told, step up or we're going to punish you. we've seen what league tables have done and these one word commendations that were in ofsted. i'm a bit nervous. this seems a bit heavy handed to me. >> i mean, i've got to say, i think there's one word accommodation is in ofsted were absolutely fantastic. i think they're getting rid of them was absolutely ridiculous. and it makes parents lives a lot harder when you're trying to choose a school. but notwithstanding that, surely you must think that people should need to step up and deliver and perform and be slashing the waiting lists? no, in the nhs, i definitely need i definitely think we need reform, but the style of that reform sounds like we're coming after you. >> we're going to punish you. and i think the nhs has been through so much recently. they need a little bit of encouragement. they don't been through. we had the most

unbelievable pandemic, didn't we? where our nhs were, the front line people were watching life and death happen in front of them, working every hour that you imagine. i'm sorry. >> well, she's she's on her phone. >> that was that was tony wes streeting. >> i was going to check something with the nhs . something with the nhs. >> she's like sitting there. she's on her own. she's on her own little island. this she's on her own. she's on her own little island.
