the gangs, but maybe he should be smashing the supermarkets instead. a gb news investigation can exclusively reveal that a calais superstore on the french coast has been accused of operating as a migrant diy shop, selling vital equipment for channel crossings. this decathlon store in calais sits just a five minute walk from busy crossing points for migrants trying to make it to britain. we've discovered numerous pieces of equipment being sold there, including kayaks, lifejackets, oars and inflatable pumps and that's despite france banning the sale of inflatable boats in 2021. in an apparent bid to stop the crossings. so the relatively cheap items cost anything from 30 to ,80 and can be bought straight from the shelf without question of what someone is using them for. one french source told us migrants are going in there knowing they can get their hands on this equipment. it's right under their noses. campaigners have called for the store to be investigated, which they claim is fuelling crossings and indeed deaths. alp mehmet, chairman of migrant watch uk, told us this
9:06 pm
is a shocking situation. the store is basically a diy shop for migrant crossings. they're putting profit ahead of human lives. it'sjust putting profit ahead of human lives. it's just a few minutes walk away from the coast. it's open season. they are practically inviting them in. we're paying £500 million to french authorities to stop these migrant crossings. more than 30,000 have crossed so far this yean 30,000 have crossed so far this year, so forgive me for thinking the french are all a bit too blase about their role in all of this. let's get the thoughts now of tonight's panel. i'm joined by daily express columnist carole malone , political carole malone, political commentator samuel sukh, and former mp, mp and chairman of the conservative party, jake berry. good evening to you all. hello, carole. what's the french word for absolute scandal? >> i don't know, off the top of my head, but you're absolutely right. it is a scandal and the french have they? they don't care. macron doesn't care about stopping the crossings. the french government . nuclear. he's french government. nuclear. he's no migrant. macron has always been a champion of free movement. always . and he doesn't
9:07 pm
movement. always. and he doesn't believe that he should stop the french. plus, if he lets them come here, it's less of a headache for him. the french government doesn't have to look after them. so yeah, and the thing is, there are cops at these crossing points everywhere. we know that we've seen them there. and so if they wanted to go into those stores and say to them, you can't do this anymore, they would, but they don't want to do it. so, you know, we know. macron must be clapping his hands with glee. you know, he's getting multi—millions of pounds every year from this country. you know, last year sunak did a deal with them for £480 million and said this was hugely going to stop the numbers. and guess what? we've got even more now than ever before. you know, we need to get tough now with with france. we need to be turning back the boats. and you know, i know someone like sam is going to say that's very dangerous. well, it's no more dangerous than than crossing one of the major shipping lines on a plastic dinghy. so we've got to get off. we've got to stop the money and we've got to push back. >> i don't know if we can get those pictures back up, but sam, when we visited, the most of the items were sold out. there were just a few life jackets left. there were dinghies and
9:08 pm
inflatables. there's only 1 or 2 left on the shelves when we went there, the they are flying off there, the they are flying off the shelves. obviously we can't identify who's buying them, but these boats especially were meant to be banned from sale in 2021, so the french need to pull their socks off now . their socks off now. >> well i think yeah. but i think also at the same time , think also at the same time, there needs to be a joined international approach to tackle migrant crossings. >> what? and the only way to do that and this story is testament to this as a theory that is always there's going to be open to exploitation. people are always going to be open to these abuses. >> but this is that this isn't some sort of underworld dark gang that is, you know, full 1512 00:
